The
provider
we
saw
at
Blue
Pearl
was
well
meaning,
but
I
was
pretty
floored
by
what
happened
here
with
our
new
puppy.
For
context,
my
partner
and
I
brought
our
puppy
into
Blue
Pearl
in
the
middle
of
the
night
for
several
hours
of
vomiting
including
some
streaks
of
blood.
She
had
an
x-ray
done
along
with
a
parvo
testing.
The
parvo
was
negative,
and
the
x-ray
was
potentially
suggestive
of
a
bowel
obstruction.
The
provider
recommended
urgent
surgery
the
same
day
-
which
would
have
been
$7,000
at
Blue
Pearl.
She
also
gave
our
puppy
anti
nausea
medication,
but
she
didn’t
think
to
give
fluids
until
we
asked
about
it
(I
am
a
health
care
provider
myself,
but
this
one
seemed
pretty
obvious
to
me).
She
showed
us
the
x-rays,
and
when
we
questioned
the
diagnosis
and
asked
about
more
testing
like
barium
or
ultrasound
to
make
the
diagnosis
definitive,
she
said
no
further
testing
is
indicated
as
the
x-ray
was
“very
straightforward”
and
“pretty
much
diagnostic,”
and
she
recommended
not
delaying
care
for
more
than
a
few
hours
since
it
would
risk
our
puppy’s
life.
Thankfully,
this
all
took
long
enough
that
our
normal
vet
office
had
opened,
so
we
called
for
a
second
opinion.
When
our
vet
reviewed
the
images,
she
said
she
definitely
was
NOT
convinced
and
the
diagnosis
was
iffy
at
best.
She
ended
up
directing
us
to
a
different
ER
with
a
radiologist
who
reviewed
the
x-ray
and
agreed
that
it
probably
wasn’t
a
bowel
obstruction.
They
recommended
an
ultrasound
and
found
that
she
actually
had
gastritis
(an
extremely
minor
diagnosis
comparatively).
They
gave
her
12
hours
of
fluids,
slowly
reintroduced
food,
and
sent
her
back
to
us
entirely
back
to
her
normal,
happy
self.
In
retrospect,
I
really
cannot
believe
how
confident
this
provider
was
in
telling
us
a
major
(and
extremely
expensive-
though
that’s
not
the
main
point)
surgery
was
needed
right
away.
I
wasn’t
pushy
about
asking
too
many
questions
and
wanted
to
trust
the
provider,
but
ultimately
she
was
100%
wrong.
I
would
never
return
here,
and
I
would
strongly
recommend
that
others
consider
a
different
location
or
a
second
opinion
if
major
interventions
are
being
planned.
