Elise, the owner of the book Pub, greeted my friend and I as if we were family! We felt welcome and safe, especially as trans individuals walking through Portland in the middle of the night. Our favorite part of the bar was the several little hideaway book nooks for readers and introverts alike! Wonderful, must see stop for professionals, students and people who just love words. They host spoken word events and live music as well. It comforted me that vaccination cards were required to show upon entry. The bathrooms are non gender specific and full of 'Take one, leave one' poems, so be prepared to bring your fave poem you've written to swap out with one already on the wall.

This is my favorite spot to go and write. Cozy, low key vibes, community oriented space. And I love being surrounded by books. It's quirky to be sure, but in a very charming way. It's also quiet enough to actually have a conversation which is something I've struggled to find in Portland's bustling cafe/bar scene. I always get the hummus plate as it's a perfect snack. The hummus is really good, tastes homemade. The book collection is eclectic and fun to peruse. The one thing I don't love is that the three times I've been in, the radio is what's playing overhead, and the constant ads are pretty annoying when trying to read or write. Luckily it's not too loud and it doesn't stop me from going. Just something I hope they change at some point.

EDIT 5/24/22: Piping hot mushroom polenta topped with the most perfectly sauteed asparagus I've ever had. It satisfies the taste buds and feeds your soul It's December, The season of finding a comfy chair and getting lost in a book. Unfortunately, it seems more difficult to do when you're working from home. Why struggle with keeping your focus away from work or chores at home when you can cruise down Fremont where interesting reads, good beer, and tasty morsels await you. I should be using this moment of inspiration to tune up my email copy 🤣

I almost cried when I found this place. It's warm and inviting. The staff who helped me went above and beyond. I loved the little Irish nooks so much! If I lived closer I would be a regular. I'll definitely be back often though.

Literally the BEST cafe bar in PDX. Absolutely Old School Portland. They are one of the only late night coffee shops open at the moment, and a great place to study or meet new friends. Elise and Emily are so, so welcoming. All books are for sale! Trivia nights may get rowdy! Bring your housemates, neighbors, friends!

An absolutely wonderful little place to relax with a book and a drink. Also has internet and outlets if you need to get work done and a short (but tasty) menu of food. If you're looking for a homey place to read, work, or socialize this is it. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed that they had a good vegan option, between my big bowl of pasta and a tall glass of tasty cider I did not leave hungry. I was hoping to find a book and spend a few cozy hours here but the books are kind of randomly categorized and there were so many books and clutter that I couldn't find anything. It was also freezing cold so I wasn't enticed to stay long after finishing my meal. I would like to try coming back when it's a little warmer maybe.

Ever wanted to hide in the corner with a book but ALSO maybe be kind of social, eavesdrop on conversations (I'm not judging) & have a drink? This is that place! Why go to a regular bar & be the only one with a book when you can literally be surrounded by books...and beer? Exactly. They have fun literary events and did I mention there's poutine too? Don't steal their stuffed animals though...they're for everyone to enjoy.

Had an amazing book reading of my novel "Painting Through the Dark" at the Pub. Was accompanied by fabulous fiddler Bronnie Griffin. The staff here are really wonderful. It's such a lively and welcoming spot.

This pub/ book store/ coffee shop had one of the most unique vibes I've ever walked into. With a fun event scheduled almost every day of the week, including live performances and a beatnik undertone, I their place is full of personality. The bartenders were friendly and sassy, their prices are fair, and the seating is couches and corners. I loved it and I hope you do, too!

Absolute gem. I almost want to keep it a secret so it doesn’t get so busy that I can’t easily find a nook to hang out in and read/enjoy a beer. Staff is great, good beer selection, and lovely atmosphere. Great place to meet up with friends or dig in to a good book.

Our book club had a wonderful afternoon at Rose City Book Pub! I called ahead and they reserved a table for 7 of us for book club. They had a fun menu with tea, charcuterie, and salad options. They also offer a fun arts and crafts event the 2nd and 4th sunday of every month, I’ll go back for it next time! Cozy interior for a rainy day.

Funky little neighborhood bar. If you love books and beers- this is your spot! Although a little cluttered and in need of a good clean up, the patio space was quaint. Staff is super friendly.

Wednesday Nights are always fun with Elise’s Trivia Night? Meet people, make a team and we always have a great time. A real low-key nerdy, fun hangout with great staff and good food. Try the Pork Shoulder with flash fried Brussel Sprouts. It’s a winner. And the chocolate pudding is amazing!!

The atmosphere of this spot is amazing. The feel of a locally loved and operated business is such a wonderful place to gather. The only thing was we went for trivia and it was VERY busy and loud. If you plan on going for trivia, get there very early! But the place was lovely and I cannot wait to return.

Wonderfully cozy little pub with a library and extremely welcoming staff. Great rotating tap list (Sun River cocoa cow nitro, yum!)

Come here to enjoy great drinks and delicious simple food amongst cozy bookshelves. Huge bonus that it's open late in a city where everything is shut down by 8pm!

My favorite hangout spot in town. Gone are the days of late-night coffee shops! The Rose City Book Pub is pretty much the only place to go to hang out or get some work that isn't a bar. Plus, Elise and her staff are lovely, and the food is great. Give it a shot!

Good food and tap selections with cocktails. The place seemed a little outdated and run down but it added to the charm and coziness. I loved seeing people reading or writing all over and I started up come great chats with fellow book lovers while there. Overall fun experience and good stop! :)

A great spot for a second date! Went and saw the notes and motes night which was a tad hard to talk through, but this is definitely a place I’d come back to on my own. Found this sweet note at our table!

I love Book Pub! Such a nice, welcoming, cozy atmosphere and a plethora of options to read from. Elise is one of the most beautiful people in the whole world and has been a monumental figure to my friends and I since moving to Portland not too long ago.

Absolutely my new favorite place ever. Good beer selection, good tea and food options, lots of books to read. Very comfortable. 10/10 would recommend.

The atmosphere was quaint. They had some vegan options on the menu for food and snacks which was nice. The plate of fries was enormous! However, I ordered a drink and paid for it and the staff immediately forgot about it and I waited over a half hour before my drink finally came to me. The staff member apologised for the situation, but it was a bit frustrating since I was not really expecting to spend that much time there.

We went here on a date night not knowing what to expect. For not being a full restaurant, the food was very good. The bartender recommended a kombucha with a shot of vodka and it was awesome. Even though she was the only person working, she was exceptionally fast and friendly. Will definitely be coming back.
