I did not have the good fortune of staying here, but I was able to visit. As a bar hound, the Boiler Room, Detention, and semi-secret Spanking Room are absolute treasures not to be missed. I recommend starting in Boiler, moving to Detention, then asking the barkeep there how to get to the Spanking Room. It’s almost dungeon like being down there and I suspect it was actually the boiler room when it was a school. We had dinner at the restaurant which was mid at best. Great and tasty food choices, but not particularly exceptional. The staff were fantastic Portland snobs, so be ready to trade barbs if you’d like to knock them out of their general indifference and get exceptional service. Next time we plan on at least 2 nights there just to figure everything out. From the paintings on every wall to the semi-public bath area. And I can’t wait for another visit to the Spanking Room! I’m pretty certain they don’t tell everyone where it is.

The good parts: Food was good, the soft pretzels and cheese sauce were yummy! The desserts were fantastic and the cocktails were above board. Staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds were well kept and tidy. The bad parts: the room is overpriced for what you get. I mean it was nice but not $300 nice. Parking was a challenge due to several other events happening at the hotel. Again, for the price it would have been nice to have a guest only parking area. Interior of the hotel was quirky and fun to explore but super messy. Like, seriously, just assign someone to buss the empty drink glasses people leave everywhere and clean those rugs! Fun for a night but not if you’re looking to relax and unwind.

Great spot to spend a few hours. Fun to explore the building and various bars. Loved the gift shop. Drink menu was great. The grounds were beautiful and the history of the building was interesting. We didn't eat there but was within walking distance of some cool restaurants.

The power was out in my neighborhood, so I went here with some friends and our kids. Clearly many other people had the same idea and the place was packed. We were seated pretty quickly and our server was friendly and attentive, even with as busy as he was. Our food took longer than normal to come out, but it seemed quite reasonable considering how busy they were. We were all happy with our meals and drinks.

Had a room reserved for the rehearsal dinner for my best friend's wedding. Food was delicious. Being in an old school made wandering around looking for our space very fun. Our classroom had the vintage feel of chalkboards and chandeliers, but a Bluetooth sound system to co.plete the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and quick to swap out empty trays. It was a wonderful way to end the evening. I also want to point out the location is a bit out of the way, which we loved. It wasn't far from the interstate, but parking was easy, and it felt very safe.

It's a great place. Food is good and booze is better. If you plan on coming here just be very patient. The service can be very slow. Not a place for anyone in a hurry. It's a very laid back kind vibe. Don't be surprised if you have to track down your server after 2 hr to pay your bill. But if have a day with nothing planned and want an amazing environment definitely worth the trip.

Staff engaged you at every step of your stay. They were also respectful of your space and privacy. Great balance. Restaurant meals were flavorful. Not one bad bite! Soaking pool was perfect temperature and super clean. Soaking pool outdoors so environment was natural and relaxing.

Remember to use Hoᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking any resort. They compare countless booking websites and typically will have rooms a lot cheaper than others! You're welcome :)! This place is one of my favorites in the area. I've been coming here for a very long time. If you choose this place you definitely will love it I'm sure! Great spot to spend a few hours. Fun to explore the building and various bars. Loved the gift shop. Drink menu was great. The grounds were beautiful and the history of the building was interesting. We didn't eat there but was within walking distance of some cool restaurants.

This place is a wonderland. I went and ate a really great burger (bacons cheese, with tots of course). The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. The atmosphere in this massive building is incredible. The interior design is mesmerizing and so much fun to look at. From the old photos, to the trinkets and art. 10/10 experience, and we didn’t even go to the soak pools! I will be returning for more food, exploration, and a little dip. Can’t wait to come back. Also, for the bathroom connoisseurs, they were clean, bright, and played wonderful privacy music as well. I will take photos and post on another review!

It is unlike anything I have ever experienced from an entertainment and hospitality standpoint. The story behind converting an abandoned school into an entertainment complex is incredible. I wish more places did this instead of "bulldozing paradise to build a parking lot". The food at the restaurant was excellent and the movie theater feels like you're at home. For sure worth a visit if you are in the area.

This is a very lovely place. As a former school it has a great combination of large and small spaces. There are great restaurants and bars. There are large rooms for parties. They pretty much can handle a multitude of needs with ease.

My wife and I came to relax and enjoy our 1 year anniversary. We arrived around 12:30 p.m. and from the reviews we read ( the reviews said to expect a long wait for service) figured we would grab something to eat and by the time we were done it would be check in time at 3. We were seated, served and full by 1:30. Next we decided to take a stroll through the neighborhood as the weather was nice, it was peaceful and history to be seen if you take your time and look. Ran across a nice little herbal medicinal shop ( for those 21 and up) a couple blocks up and scored some really nice smelling scented candles from the glass shop next door. We made it back to the hotel around 2 stopped at the front desk to see if they did early check-in and was in the room by 2:15. The room was clean and comfortable and the movie theater well, it was a pleasant and very comfortable experience and a good movie. Well let's just say this was most definitely a good experience that I'm glad we have.

I love the variety of bars/venues in this location. Amazing decor/themes. Food in bar areas is not very good. Extremely greasy fish and chips. I am a local, so have never stayed in the hotel section.

Such a fun place to stay, especially as a teacher. Amazing decor in an old school building, including comfortable rooms and lots of options for food and drinks. I love how the designers spotlight local history. I could spend hours looking at all the art on the walls. My favorite spots are the Boiler Room and the soaking pool. Kennedy School is always our first choice when we need a place to stay in Portland.

Very cool bars inside this refurbished elementary school. We didn't stay in hotel rooms, so can't rate them. We got there for happy hour and got good deal on drinks and burgers. Place is amazingly Decorated.

I went to the soaking pool, it was so relaxing and the vibes were sooo nice. Even though it was pretty busy on a Saturday, we were still able to find a spot and talk. I really loved it. There’s also an espresso bar and regular bar to get drinks to bring in with you! I didn’t stay in a hotel room but the vibes of the hotel were really nice. Kinda like imagine Matilda’s school as a hotel. Low lighting, super old school but elegant.

The open floor that allows you to explore the once school, is really fun. Once class rooms or detention are now little bars or boarding rooms. The wine selection is superb, the drinks are tasty, but the food not so much. I feel as if the menu hasn’t changed in years and could use a bit of a revamp.

Stayed black Friday and the day after. Such a nice place to stay! The ambience is great and the history of the place is palpable. Staff was great to interact with, and Shasta in particular took great care of us when checking in and gave us great suggestions. I did give 4 stars because our neighbors had a large and loud dog who interrupted our mornings for two days in a row. Suggestion: try to book people housing animals next to each other so they at least have that expectation. All around a lovely place to stay, that aside! Also check out the gift shop for some cool knicknacks

Great location in a great neighborhood. Lots of fun things to do and often community events are held there. However, eating at the restaurant is always a risk, some servers are great and sometimes you are forgotten -- the food is always sub par. Drinks are great and holiday dinners are very convenient -- especially the family size options. If the salmon meal was available all year I'd increase by a star.

What a rad spot to kill some time! We haven’t stayed here, but we come here often to eat, have local cider, use their soaking pool. Their soaking pool is open to non hotel guests, I would just call ahead of time and book a reservation (1 hour time option). They have a changing room with a few lockers and then a really cool outdoor soaking pool with vegetation all around creating a relaxing atmosphere. Make sure to turn on the jets in the changing room before walking outside for some bubbles! You can order drinks at the bar and bring plastic cups out to enjoy :)

We had a brandy flight in the Honors bar. The bartender was great! Friendly, responsive, and attentive. Small, cozy bar with a wood-burning stove. Nice ambiance. No rating on rooms because we're local and didn't stay.

This is by far the coolest place I saw during my visit to Portland. There are multiple cool little bars, all worth checking out, and a couple restaurants. You absolutely need to grab a drink and walk the hallways. You can admire the often eerie and downright creepy artwork and old photos of the people who have filtered through the school over the decades. The staff are top notch, friendly, and outgoing. Also, they have a movie theater! Such a cool place!

Don't forget to use Hᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a hotel. They compare countless hotel sites and typically will have prices a lot cheaper than others! You're welcome :)! This place is the best rated in the area. I've been coming here for a long time. If you choose this place you definitely will love it I'm sure! What a unique experience! My friend talked it up so much, and it delivered. I LOVED the soaking pool, it was so relaxing at the end of the day. Each room is named something school themed, so cute. I wish I had stayed there longer.

Traveling through this old schoolhouse is a fun experience. The kids love looking at all the different art pieces, which make them ask questions. Plus, there's the movie theater, restaurant, cafe, and bars, such as "Detention." Great for a date night or a whole family adventure. The staff are friendly and service is nice! The food has traditional McMenamins fare, which are always a hit. All facilities, public spaces, and such were real clean and uncluttered.

My girlfriend's and I made reservations for the salt water pool. Pool was on the smaller side but very clean and had the perfect temperature. Lots of tropical plants everywhere. This whole place is very neat, we barely even tapped in exploring it all. Delicious cocktails and appetizers. Can't wait to come back and check more of it out!
