Lower Macleay Park

👍👍 Quick little hike down to the Witch's Castle. Round trip was 1.5 miles and 240 feet elevation gain. You could keep going if you're wanting to but I chose to just check out the castle. Trail was busy but not too crazy. Parked at Macleay Park. People often mention hike, Trail, trail,

Beautiful park, with trees and creeks. Lots of foot traffic at the bottom but has less people the higher you go up. As a beginner hiker, the trail is steep if you decide to go all the way to the mansion, so take your time. Heavy hikers will have no problem, and will enjoy the scenery.

This is a nice park, within the city for a small hike. Went here with a friend on a weekday. We took the lower trail. Parking here was free and we did not have a problem since we started quite early in the day. We hiked all the way up to Pittock Mansion for a nice view of the city. You can go here with kids since the hike is not as difficult.

It is a beautiful hike. Although most of the water had dried up because of summer. Even though it was a really hot and sunny day the park was really pleasant. The trees are huge which hides the sun and maintains a cool temperature. There is limited parking near the park.

After being closed for over a year, this Trail is by far the most beautiful Trail in all of portland. It will connect you to the Wildwood Trail as well as continue to the Pedic mansion. A nice Loop will end you a nice 10 MI taking you through Northwest 23rd street.

Hiked up from Lower Macleay to Pittock. Trail muddy in some areas. Fence along trail needs repair in several areas. Scenery and challenging switchback hike to the top.

Visited the "Witch's House" and Wildwood trails. The weather was phenomenal for a meandering hike. Gloriously streaming sun beams with short cloudy rain breaks that were pleasantly brief but kept the air cool. One port-a-potty placed next to the locked restroom building was an odd choice but I was still glad for it. Gorgeous creeks, mosses, ferns, fungi, and critters. The path is paved but still quite muddy and slippery in sections. I had my first stinging nettle encounter, and will try to make sure it's also my last.

Beautiful trail by a river and perfect for forest bathing. Great park alone or with company. Your dog will thank you! One of the most wholesome hidden green spaces in Portland. Love it.

Park was amazing and has a really cool bridge as you first walk in. There is a little abandoned house a short walk into the trail. You will feel very immersed in nature here even though it’s really not.

I'm possible to show the beauty in photographs, plus I visited on a cloudy day. Such an exquisite refuge in the city.

A favorite hike in the city. It’s easy to impress out-of-towners with the greenness and beauty of this trail. The witch’s castle is always interesting and a little creepy. Graffiti covers the walls and there was definitely a salt circle this time. We love it though. Park at lower Macleay and hike up to Pittock.

Great hike, different animals in the area and a lot of shade spots provided, incline to the Witches Castle.

Super Trail for walking, strolling, sprinting, running, jogging, riding a bike, rollerblading, skateboarding, walking your pet’s. Once you get off the pavement onto the DIRT the fun begins with the sound of birds….almost like someone turned on a switch. Lots of fun places up there to check out whether it is for a picnic or an adventure this place is pretty cool.
