I believe that this restaurant provided the most exceptional dining experience throughout my entire trip in Porto. We arrived at around 2 pm and noticed that there were four groups waiting ahead of us. To secure a table, it is advisable to make a reservation at least one month in advance. However, if you prefer, you can also walk in and expect to wait in a queue for approximately an hour. We decided to try the octopus salad, clams, codfish croquette and seafood rice. The octopus salad was incredibly fresh, tender, and bursting with flavor. However, the true highlight of the restaurant was undoubtedly the seafood rice. It was cooked to perfection, offering a delightful explosion of flavors. The seafood itself was remarkably fresh, and the portion size was impressively generous. 😊 The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere, and the service was impeccable. The waiter was exceptionally friendly and attentive. In terms of pricing, it was comparable to other restaurants in the area. ☺️ Just one thing to note: they do not have tables available for groups larger than four people, so it's important to ask about this in advance. If I ever have the opportunity to return to Porto, this restaurant will undoubtedly be at the top of my list. 👍🏻

I believe this place offered the best experience I had in Porto for a dinner. The waiter was very friendly, the only restaurant where I wasn't rushed, and he gladly accommodated my gluten free request. The portions where generous, the wine very affordable and the port wine great. Price wise, this restaurant is on par with what you can find in the area. However, the overall experience and food is superior. It is usually quite crowded. Reservation is required. Otherwise, walk by and ask to wait for the next available table. Kitchen closes at 22:00, therefore you should arrive no later than 9:30. Payment with card is possible.

Really excellent food. Well worth the wait. We waited in line for almost a full hour before being seated so beware of the same. The restaurant was packed on the Saturday that we were there. The place can only accommodate 16 people at any time. Plus if you are not seated by 9.45, then you will not be allowed in. But I must say that the food was really delicious. We had the octopus salad, croquettes and finally the Seafood rice and every dish was superb. Note that the portion sizes are very big and we didn’t finish the seafood rice even after really trying hard! The seafood in particular tasted very fresh. The service, once seated, was very friendly and not rushed at all. One of the highlights of the day for sure.

Absolutely worth the wait! We arrived about 15 minutes before dinner opening, 18:00, and were seated around 19:00. Indoor seating was cozy and intimate, seats about 16 people total. Would not suggest coming here with a group more than four. Two people is probably best. They do not take reservations. The food was incredible. We started with the codfish croquettes and fish soup, for main dishes we had the octopus rice and the seafood beans, and for dessert we had the pear and the tart. The waitress was friendly and kind. They have nonalcoholic beers from Super Bok. Not sure if they had any vegetarian or vegan options as most of the food was seafood based. We would wait in line to eat here again. A truly unique experience here in Porto.

All the dishes were really delicious. The octopus salad was very fresh and flavourful, the shrimp was fresh and tasteful. The seafood rice is so so good, it tasted like a really good home made dish. The Lamb with potatoes was gorgeous. The service was also amazing and our waiter was charming and very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will certainly be back.

The best meal we had in Porto. We had to wait in the rain for about 15-20 minutes, but it was well worth it. Because the restaurant is small, anticipate to wait during peak hours. Everything was great from start to finish. The Octopus and Rice in Oven was our favorite meal out of everything we tried. What surprised me was how tasty the Alheira sausage was. The service was excellent. The food arrived quickly. I would absolutely return to this restaurant again.

The food was very delicious! I had the shellfish porridge and it was to die for - definitely recommend getting this - especially on a cold and rainy day. I also had the octopus salad - great with a glass of wine. The octopus was so tender and fresh. The server was also really nice! The restaurant is very small but has lots of charm and character. Definitely coming back again to try some more items on the menu!

We read very good reviews about this traditional tavern and we wanted to try it. We went there three times but always it was full up. Our last day to Porto we decided to go there and wait as long as necessary to try these famous traditional dishes. After 20 minutes of waiting the kind Miguel prepared a table for us. Very very delicious flavors, big portions, nice music and very nice environment. The staff was very friendly with humor and positive energy. Thank you for your great hospitality Miguel and Carlos.

Had a friend who lived in Lisbon call to book a table for me 3 weeks in advance. This was the first restaurant on our trip. This small restaurant restaurant is one of the best restaurants in Porto!!!! All the food was delicious and cooked to perfection!! Lines outside with no reservations will have to wait till a table leaves. We had the delicious shrimp (must get) and octopus salad as appetizers. The seafood rice was to die for!!! One of the best seafood rice that I've ever eaten!! Punch in your face seafood flavor. The salt crust fish was Ok. Pork ribs were good. The octopus rice was also good. Will definitely come back here when we are visiting and will tell all our friends who come to Porto!

We went there 45 minutes before open on Sunday night and was second in line. I normally don't like to wait in line like that but turned out the food is as good as many stated. I was pretty impressed with the reasonable price as well. Vegetable soup - It's one of the best I've had. The ham they use floats the smokey flavor into the soup. Good balance of veggies and potatoes mashes. Not too salty. Perfect! Fish soup - A bit fishy for my taste but my wife loved it. Octopus rice - Amazing. The rice was excellent, not too soft, not too dry and chef stir fry the rice like Chinese fried rice but only with seafood broth but some how, it's got the flavor but not the sogginess. The flavor was perfect as well, though many people thought it's too salty is because the octopus is salty because it's fresh from sea and we noticed every where we had octopus, it seems a bit heavy. That's why we think it's not the chef or the way they grilled it but just salty nature. Lamb chop was really good. The herb rub or marinate was very tasty. It was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.

We came 10-15 minutes prior to opening time and it wasn't early enough to make it for the first seating. We ended up waiting almost 2 hours for a table so my tip is to come early (maybe 30 minutes before opening). We ordered the pastel de bacalhau (3,00), shrimp (9,00), octopus salad (11,00), Seafood rice (38,00) and a meringue pie (4,00). The portion size here is very generous. Our favourite dishes were definitely the shrimp and the octopus salad. The seafood rice had a lot of seafood in it and that itself could definitely feed 4 people. I would recommend you come here with 4 people as their portion sizes are quite large. The dessert was okay - not our cup of tea. I would want to try the flan next time. If you want to visit, I would recommend coming early or you will be stuck waiting. They do around 1 and a half seatings during lunch before they close. They had to turn people away after the second seating.

Amazing service by Miguel food is was a great waiter and kept good conversation and us laughing. Value of food is there but the quality of service makes this place exceptional. When we arrived we were lucky enough to get seating with no wait but when we left the line waiting for service was ridiculous. However, food definitely was worth it.

There are times when you have a good meal in a place. And there are times when you have an outstanding meal in a place. Well this tiny place with only a few tables is an outstanding one. Superb home style cooking, just a way a top local Grandma would make it. Everything they do is just tops. I really mean it. Superb staff to boot. No wonder people line up for 60-90 minutes. This one is truly a hidden gem on a narrow street. Thank you guys for a wonderful lunch. Loved every bite.

Taberna dos Mercadores is a gem! A small restaurant near Ribera, I highly recommend making reservations in advance if you can as they have limited seating and are very popular. We had the shrimp with garlic as a starter, then the salt encrusted sea bass and half-portion of seafood rice for dinner. The shrimp was extremely fresh and flavorful. The sea bass was a little small, but was unique and the presentation was quite a show. The Seafood rice was excellent, and the half portion was more than enough for 2. With all the food, we were too full to have dessert. Prices were extremely reasonable. I cannot wait to return!

Best meal we’ve had in Porto! Restaurant was fully booked but we were lucky to get the outdoor seats after waiting for a while. I would definitely come back to try the other dishes if I have the chance.

First meal in Portugal & it was fantastic! The clams were delicious - could have just dunked my bread in there & been completely happy. Also, the seafood acorda - heard about it, so it was a must try...did NOT disappoint! Such wonderful flavors - cannot recommend this place enough. The staff are great too - do not miss this place if you're in town...simply wonderful!

The hype is real. 😅😍 We had to wait for about an hour to get a table, but the food was delicious, the service super fun &friendly, and all in all it was just a wonderful experience. The octopus rice (no picture) was my favorite! Since they only have a few (and small) tables, I would not recommend to go with a group, or generally with more than 2p.

Had an amazing experience dining here. It is a small establishment seating 16 people at one time. The prawns in oil, salt crusted seabass and octopus in rice are a must. All cooked to perfection, juicy and flavourful. The octopus was soft like butter. As they don’t take reservations and the queue can be quite long, I would advise lining up early at least half an hour before the opening time to be able to secure a table. We started lining up at 5.30pm and we were the first to get a table at 6pm.

What an extraordinary way to conclude the trip in Porto. A fresh tasty supper with a fantastic view of dusk. The food was exquisite. Simple flavours but fresh and tastefully matched. The salty cod with onions and green peppers and olives was very fresh and tasty and the olive oil was so tasty too. My sister loved the fried octopus with rice and was positively replete by the near end of her meal. The service was one of best I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Quick, efficient, bringing us things before our desires arise. The waiter Jõa Pedro had training in London (in places such as Sketch) and it certainly showed! Thank you for creating such a memorable evening.

This is the most delicious restaurant I had in Porto. I made a reservation inquiry two weeks before my visit, but since reservations were closed, I had to wait on site. I had pan-fried shrimp, salt-grilled sea bass, and octopus rice, and the food was perfect. But what I remember most about this restaurant is the kindness of the staff.

Absolutely amazing. Best lamb I've ever had, and my lady's salt cod was perfect! We had the apple meringue for dessert- paired with some white port wine (compliments from the staff), and it was unreal! The perfect pair. We waited a reasonable amount of time to get it (considering the amount of seats they have available) - about a 45min wait without a reservation with three couples people ahead of us. The server that some people in the reviews call rude is definitely a character. He's actually not rude at all. Some people just don't get him lol. I've worked in restaurants myself, watch a lot of culinary TV, and this guy is doing what he's meant to do. The team is clearly confident/passionate in what they do, and the food reflects it. 10/10 - I highly recommend! I feel lucky to have had the chance to try it. Get the lamb ;) (Pictures attached don't do it justice)

Prepare to wait, but the wait is worth it. Tiny place that seats about 15 people. Reservations are impossible to make it, but go before they open and line up. We went about 45 minutes before opening and we were the 2nd people there. We got the shrimp and cod croquettes for apps and they were both delicious. We shared the octopus rice for two people and it was amazing! So delicious. The octopus melts in your mouth, it’s so good. We got the apple meringue for dessert and it was tasty.

(Translated by Google) We were recommended by the free tour guide and we were not disappointed, although we got to eat very late, almost at closing we were treated very well and what we ordered was delicious. Cod fritters and a rice with vegetables and baked octopus, a generous portion that, although it is for one, 2 people eat perfectly. The homemade almond cake is also delicious. Simply amazing! The best food we had on our trip to Portugal! And for a very decent price. Beautiful location/ interior and very friendly staff. I would highly recommend making a reservation as there is only limited space (I believe around 15 seats). If you don’t have a reservation make sure to be at the restaurant by at least 18:30, that way you probably will have a table as their first shift starts at 19:00. The second one is at 21:00.

We called multiple times to make a reservation but never got anyone on the phone (and once we got there, it was obvious why - so small and so busy!) We took our chances and went around opening time to stand in line. We waited for maybe 40 minutes and then sat at the outdoor table. The servers were incredibly nice and fun. They gave us great recommendations for wine. The food was amazing (likely one of the top 2 meals we had while in Portugal for 2 weeks) - highly recommend trying to take advantage when in Porto even if you have to wait!

Finding dining options on a Sunday in Porto means a lot of competition as many places are closed. We waited outside for good 20 minutes before opening hours and we were the first ones to be seated. Very small and cozy, friendly and attentive service. Portions are really abundant and the food is just delicious. I could eat that octopus rice every day and wouldn’t grow tired of it! The cod was also delicious but we were already so stuffed with the rice that we didn’t enjoy the way it deserved. Excellent house wine.

Small place with 14-16 seats (seats not tables). Reservations about a month out. We happened to arrive 15 min before open and got in line behind about 15 people. We waited for about 1.5 hours and then were let in and seated (2 people). The meal lasted 2 hours and was absolutely delicious. The salt crusted whole fish and the seafood stew were stand out dishes. The wine was very good. Do not come with a large group and no reservation. They will not take reservations for more than 2.

Best dinner in Portugal. Started with the fish soup. Perfect for the cold nights. The octopus rice and salt crusted sea bass were just amazing. Highly recommended. Only issue is the wait time. Long line before it even opened. So make sure to give yourselves some time or expect to be waiting an hour or more.

(Translated by Google) I arrived in Porto in February 2020 to soothe my hunger. I went there because there were a lot of Korean reviews, but after all, there were many Koreans. Who knew I would see my homeroom teacher in my first year of high school there haha. How are you? My lover, who only knows rice, found rice and ordered seafood rice. The squid salad was also delicious. Seafood rice was originally a menu that didn't require a spoon, but because many Koreans visit it, they basically give it a spoon. It smells like seafood miso soup. The seafood is plentiful and it suits Korean tastes. I also ordered two glasses of port wine in white, but it looks delicious. It is a tourist-oriented house, so it has a price range, but it tastes good. (Translated by Google) It was originally a big fan of Paella. Went here tonight and tasted the Portuguese paella/porridge. The noodles were immediately rounded. It was very delicious. We didn’t finish the serving for two people. The seafood was also very large. The seafood was fresh, without any fishy smell, only the sweetness of seafood. highly recommended. I tried garlic oil shrimp and fish soup for the appetizer, but the fish soup was slightly inferior, and the shrimp was not bad. There’s no negative part about this place. 1. Cozy, there are 6 (2ppl) tables inside and 3 outside. Most seem to be reserved, got very lucky and got one the moment we got there. Pure luck as lots of ppl want to eat there. 2. Small menu, all with local portuguese specialties and ingredients. Tried the clamshell, octopus and rise and veal with rice with sausage. The portions are big and delicions. 3. Quite a big selection of wine that range from under 10€ to over 400€ 4. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward experiencing dinner there again soon

If there was a sixth star, this would be the one. Perfect from start to finish. We had the clams and the shrimps as a starter then the octopus rice and salt crusted seabass. Absolute heaven. All of it with some vino Verde from the Douro valley. Cannot get better.

It’s truly a lovely experience being at thw restaurant. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the food exquisite as well as the wines. I also had the salt cod fritters and they were light and perfectly fried. I will be back before my trip ends to try the cod fish. Highly, highly recommended

Lovely staff, dreamy place in a small tight street. High quality of food (served in big quantities) and beverages, good prices: 2 guests 2 starters 1 risotto (they purpose it for 2 pax but you can eat it in four) 1 bottle of GOOD white wine €65,00. Probably one of the best dinner in Porto.

What fantastic place. You don't expect it for an small tavern but it is truly unique: Excellent food, fantastic personal, good service. You really cannot ask for more. Booking is a must as the place is very small and there are always people waiting for a table, but it is worth the wait. I am sure there other places as good, but this is a must.

The food was fantastic. It is a very small restaurant with only 6 tables inside and 3 outside, so booking is advised (we got lucky). The staff were friendly, helpful and professional and the food, which you can watch the chef prepare as he is working 2 metres away from you, is fantastic. Portions are generous, the wine we had was a great accompanyament and the prices are very fair.

One of our favorite meals in Portugal. Thank you!!! We enjoyed every bite of it and highly recommend it to anyone. Reservations in advance are a must for this small establishment - but if you get in, you’ll be in for a treat!

We were lucky enough to get a table outside without reservation, but we saw people queuing 2h! It was an overwhelming surprise. Quality of food is extremely high and very tasty. One of the best place in Porto, and for less than 50 euro you get a proper dinner for 2

Loved this place, credit to Sofia at Se Catedral Hotel for the recommendation. We were lucky to get in and I would def advise booking. We were there just before opening and ready a queue. Many turned away whilst we were there. It is hidden down a little side street close to front and only seats 12-14 inside. However, def worth the visit, site team great with excellent English and good humour. The kitchen is open so you can see some of the cooking. The shrimp in pan starter was fabulous and we had the the cod and lamb as mains both very good. Those ordering the seabass got a real treat as is brought burning to the table, looked fab. Toilet cubicles at back through the kitchen and are also good. Overall highly recommended with great food and service .... but do book to avoid disappointment

We managed to find a walk-in table even though the restaurant was fully booked for a whole week! We had a salt-crusted seabass and rice dish with octopus in it. Both were really nice and highly recommend.

This was definitely the best food I had in Portugal! I had the grilled pork ribs with tomato and sausage rice and fried sausages as a starter! It was just delicious. Also the salad was very fresh and well seasoned and the white port wine was very tasty. The restaurant is very small and you should book a table in advance! Very cute place with great atmosphere and excellent service!

Was here in 2016 and came back again in 2022. (I’m from the other end of the globe) The food is as fantastic as ever. The shellfish porridge is my favourite. Fresh seafood that’s cooked to perfection with banging flavours. The clam starter is also great with their brown bread. Staffs are great as well. Never felt rushed even though there was queue outside. Tips: start queueing 20minutes before opening to ensure you get a seat as soon as they open. Otherwise you might have to queue for more than an hour like I did. Tried booking too but they’re fully booked for the next 3 weeks when I called.

The best restaurant in Porto by far!!! I highly advise to book in advance and not wait the huge line like we did 😬 It’s a tiny restaurant and a lot of people who stand in line don’t even get to go in so save yourself the disappointment and book a table before! We had the octopus salad, fried sausage, sea bass salt crusted and the pork ribs with smoked sausage rice. Everything was amazing! Literally the best meal we’ve ever had!

  • 5/5 Helen 1 year ago on Google
Good fresh quality food at a reasonable price. The restaurant was intimate and the waiters were personable and friendly. You didn’t feel rushed at all which is very surprising seeming how popular as indicated by the queue for the restaurant is. Strongly recommend booking in advance and loved the whole dining experience.

The food was delicious! Octopus was the best I’ve ever had. I must admit you have to be prepared to wait for a table, but it's worth every minute of waiting. The staff was friendly and with a good positive vibe. The menu is short, and thanks to that every meal is perfectly combined and prepared, and don't forget to take desert at the end :)

  • 5/5 Gord R. 9 months ago on Google
Either make a reservation well in advance or wait outside the front door 30minutes before they open for lunch (not sure I would even try dinner without a reservation.) lots of tourists are willing to wait a while to be seated. They were supposed to open at 12:30 but didn't until almost 12:45/12:50 which was not great. However, the actual food is very good. The clams are remarkably fresh, the flaming shrimp puts on a show and their baked dishes and desserts were a reasonably-priced treat! If you can get seated it's well worth a visit.

Very small restaurant, around 16 people inside (8 for reservation, 8 places for people passing by) we luckily got a table on 11th June, and they were fully booked until first week of July. So recommend book a table of you can. Food was really really good! Best octopus rice I’ve ever had, melting in the mouth. Sea bass on the salt crust was divine! Service was excellent, good wine selection (as expected, you are in Porto). Highly recommend it!

It was amazing👍🏻 I love the acidic and pleasant glass of wine and really nice octopus fried rice(super soft octopus and crispy fried rice). The staff were very friendly wearing smiles and I didn't have a problem to wait in a queue for my turn. Also other customers who just finished their meal recommended their food, so I had a very good feeling from them as well ☺️. Specially thanks to Evo, I was alone at the outdoor table luckily and he took care of me like asking how I like my food and he filled up my empty glass 😆. It was an accident that I came in there. I was just passing by there, it smelled good, and I queued up. I waited for about 30 mins and got a table just for me, 1 person. I highly recommend the glass of white wine 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I rarely drink but I had 3 glasses of the white wine 😂 I'm drooling thinking of it now again 🤤

Seeing the rave reviews, we wanted to try this place out. What we thought was going to be an hour wait turned into two. There were many empty tables inside but they were for reservation. At least during our wait, no one came and eventually someone in line was seated. It feels like all of Porto, there are no online reservation system. So you literally just have to stand in line which feels like a horrible waste of time especially since we are so close to the waters. It would be nice to put a number down and get a call back so we can explore nearby areas. Or at least walk back to check every 15 or 30 minutes. It seems like it's an issue in all of Porto though and not this restaurant specifically. The food was good. But I don't know if it's because we had waited for 2 hours and we're basically ready to eat anything. We ordered the octopus and it was mixed with onion and vinegar. I liked the flavor of it. The clams were very fresh and not salty like what we had in other places in Spain and Portugal. The seafood porridge was the star. Nicely flavored and an abundant of seafood. I liked it a lot. The seabass was also delicious. I wish there was more salt on the fish though. It tasted really bland. The flambee show was nice however. The desserts were really really really REALLY sweet. I don't like overly sweet dessert so I did not finish everything. We got the rice pudding and the apple meringue. I did like the port wine though. Would I come here again? Absolutely not. The wait was absolutely excruciating. Many people who waited in line dropped out after an hour. The space is super small and can only seat 16 ppl, and honestly we had local food that made us much happier without the 2 hour wait. Not worth the hype at all. But if you have nothing to do and want to stand for 2 hours, then this is the place for you.

this place is incredible. from when we arrived at 6:45pm (for open at 7pm) to a line of about 10 people outside of a small unassuming restaurant (already with full tables). we did not have a reservation and so decided to chance it and wait. that wait brought us to 8:30pm until we sat down for our well-deserved meal. it is quite a small place, seating 14 only, so it is most common that you will have to wait without a reservation (or make a reservation a month in advance), but I PROMISE it is worth it. every second of that meal was delicious - with the food, the vibe and the serving staff making it all in all a really fun experience. the man who (I assume) is the owner is fantastic - a complete showman. he makes the experience even more exciting for customers, from marching outside to tell us all that we will all probably be waiting too long of a time, only for none of us to give up! to him serving us our long-waited food and saying “welcome to paradise” as we stare, salivating at our boiling pot of veal and smoked sausage tomato rice 🤤 don’t get me wrong, the waiting is hard. but while we were waiting, we made friends with people from all over the world and it was the same for everyone I saw in the line with us. this place signifies community, joy and good food experienced with loved ones. and, because it’s a fairly small space you should get a chance to continue that conversation with your new friends over dinner. highly recommend!

Amazing restaurant with good proximity to the river. You can tell immediately this place is popular, there’s usually a line out the door with at least 5 parties waiting to be seated. Staff is very busy. We had the cod croquettes (very good), green salad (nothing particularly special), lamb chops (the best I’ve ever had), and octopus rice (must have!). One important thing to note about the restaurant, although it was very good I cannot say it’s the best restaurant in Porto like others have. The wait is very long, we arrived 40 minutes before it opened and still ended up waiting 80 minutes to be seated. Is the food great? Yes. Worth waiting on line over an hour? Maybe. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby where you do not have to wait to be seated with similar quality food. If you plan on coming here, either reserve a month in advance (it’s usually fully booked at least a few weeks in advance) or start lining up 45-50 minutes before doors open. If you arrive 30 minutes before opening, you will most likely not be amongst the first in line to be let in and will have to wait until the people in line ahead of you finish their meals. There are only about 14 seats, 6 of which are reserved. No matter what, you’re bound to wait at least 30 minutes before eating here. This is generally not a problem, just be prepared for that.

Absolutely brilliant and well executed local food, best meal in the four days we had in Porto. Unlike many other meal, food was well seasoned and packed with flavour, although you could miss the soups. Worth the line and if you can get in early as you may be able to grab a seat in 15.

Bistro-type, cozy small restaurant. Two hours in line were worth while spending time. Multinacional and friendly, the crowd waited to be seated, and was busy discussing the menu. Octopus rice seemed to be most anticipated. I had fish soup and octopus rice. Overall very good, all dishes appeared to be on the salty side, which was the comment of other guests too.
