The taste was good, but not super good in comparison with high-rated local restaurant. The price was 1.5-2 times more expensive than local restaurant(in particular wine was expensive, a glass from 6euros- while local restaurant has 2euros house wine). It's not superexpensive as Michelin restaurant, but I expected more surprising experience compared with local restaurant. I ordered deep fried green beans with tartar sauce and flaked cod with bread crumbs, LT egg and “exploding” olive. Both not bad, but some (high-rated) local restaurant serves dishes with similar level (or could be better). To me, the best cod dish was at a local restaurant, with half price. Green beans was very normal, the cod was too salty(combination with cabbage was nice. Simply too salty). To be fair, you might find something new and creative here, it's difficult in traditional local restaurant(in addition, English communication was fine). If you are bored with too traditional dishes or don't want to struggle with non English speaker, this restaurant could be nice choice.

This was a fair experience… I think I was expecting more, but it’s not like what we had was bad in any way, just not fantastic. We had the Brazilian shrimp and cod stew and the veal risotto (not pictured). I would highly recommend the risotto; it was bursting with flavor. The stew, not so much. We also ordered the deep fried beans and those were mild and delicious. I’m not sure I would return again, there are more standout restaurants in town!

This was one of the best culinary experiences I’ve ever had! The service was superb; Vitor was so so kind and managed the place so deftly. The ambiance was so refreshingly comfortable and down to earth; the FOOD was beautifully prepared. We got the bread basket (get it!) that comes with truffle butter (i think), the vegetable cream soup, the scallops on avocado mousse, the fried green beans, and the grilled octopus. All amazing!

I was disappointed with the overall experience here. Firstly, the tables are all “glued together” and lucky no one sat next to us, otherwise strangers would be in our table. Secondly, the portion size is minuscule, which makes you hungry after you finish your meal. This is not the place to go if you are vegan, like me. They only have one vegan main dish with chickpeas and curry sauce. However, to be fair, they do have several typical Portuguese dishes.

Wonderful dinner experience! My sister and I randomly happened on this place as we were walking by and luckily were able to get two seats at the bar, as many of the surrounding restaurants were full on reservations. It was such a happy accident! Ines was our server and made our experience excellent! She suggested the Moqueca and I can honestly say I’ve never had such an amazing seafood dish! We started with bread and 3 different types of infused butter and breaded green beans. Everything was delicious!! The bartender even made us the best vodka martinis we’ve ever had. They had hints of lime zest and exploding olives…yes exploding. Our compliments to the chef and his amazing crew! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Porto!

I think that the best part is the staff, they are super friendly and professional. The service was quick, maybe too quick, to rush to eat! In regards to food, I have my thoughts, I was expecting more! I think they need to bring their game A. I ordered the marinated scallops, this starter has loads of guacamole, so much that you cannot taste the scallops... Then I ordered the Professor Eggs, they were okay but there was an excess of oil, too much fat to the point that u are having a bit and u are done with it. I also ordered the hazelnut dessert which by the way is not 3 textures, is just two, but brilliant, it was lovely. And maybe this is a bit sad to say but the bread with the truffle butter and the moho were so nice, so I think they need to look into their main dishes!

We ate Sunday lunch here on the last day of our week long holiday in Porto. It was superb! The decor, the atmosphere, the music. the service and not least the food. Perfectly judged cooking and combinations of flavours, the “exploding olives” are sensational. One of the most memorable meals I’ve ever eaten. I’d give it 6* if it were possible! Booking in advance is usually required, especially at weekends.

The food at Cantinho was really good! It was a nice mix of traditional Portuguese food and some more (from my view) modern dishes. We had the fried green beans, the duck red curry, and the veal risotto. They were all delicious and felt like comfort food. The menu has something for everyone and it was honestly so hard for us to choose just three dishes. The service was very friendly and made the experience great

The ambiance exudes sophistication, but it's the food that steals the show. Some of the finest Portuguese dishes I've ever had. A must-visit for those seeking an authentic and top-tier culinary experience.

It was very disappointing despite good reviews. I was very looking forward as I booked 2 weeks in advance. The restaurant is over capacity. They put too much table in a little space. The chef have to cook too many dishes at a time to keep good quality. The fried beans were too oily without any flavour. The other dishes were nothing special... I don't know why it has so many good reviews. 90% of customers were somehow Americans. It's a tourist trap. There are many other better restaurants in Porto in a same price range. I recommend not to go.

A cool place with good food and drinks. Just better to reserve in advance. I had marinated scallops as a starter, Grilled Octopus for the main dish and chocolate cake for the dessert, all were very good. The bread and dips were also tasty. I really recommend try this place in Porto

Relax restaurant. No attire mandate. We started our journey here with octopus tartar. Great choice. Crochet👍. Grilled octopus for main but most tasty the duck curry dish which we highly recommend. We were not disappointed.

OVERALL RATING: 8.5 out of 10 FOOD: 8.5 Delicious raw scallops as an appetizer. The moqueca was good – but not as good as in Salvador! The Thai large shrimp were delicious, though this seemed to be the only rather overpriced item on the menu. AMBIENCE: 8.5, fun Brazilian music playing, very good vibe, casual but attentive service. COMMENTS: Fun, excellent, upscale but casual restaurant with various influences.

Last but not least the Hazelnut desert is exceptional, just delicious!!! It was so good that we decided to go back for a second time on the next day:) Your visit will be an unforgettable experience on another level.

Very popular chef running this restaurant. We had lunch there. From the minute we entered it was a first class restaurant with professional service and chefs pushing out quality food with attention to details. Lunch specials offered up five meals with wine for 12.50 euros. The presentation was beautifully done and the flavors of each dish was well done.

We went to Cantinho do Avillez after it was recommended to us by a local and we really enjoyed our dining experience! We ordered 3 starters, 2 mains, and 2 desserts to share between two people (and to be honest, it was a bit much but we regret nothing). Everything was delicious but my most memorable experience would have to be the chocolate lava cake with strawberry sorbet. I recommend making a reservation to make sure you don't miss out on this delicious experience.

Booked an early dinner there with my fiancé. Upon arriving, the couple in front of us clearly misread their reservation for 5pm (17h00) for 7pm. The host still managed to accommodate them at bar. Nice cosy atmosphere with old benches and booths. Marcia (?) our server, spoke both English and Portuguese and accommodated us quite well. The house broha bread was excellent, the alcohol and wine list was solid, and the menu was pretty good. A bit disappointed there were two steak options, two risotto and two curry options, but my fiancé's roasted octopus was perfectly cooked and delicious. My shrimp moqueca with rice was also very well prepared. The entrées were quite good and innovative, the scallop and avocado cream was light and delicious, while the fried green beans had nice textures and crispness. Finished with the touchinho de ceu dessert with raspberry sorbet, well presented and quite impressive, just wish it was bit larger. Overall, it was a nice evening, good ambience and service, and notable food. A couple of lightbulbs for the corner seat, a slightly diversified menu is all it could use at the monent. I can see why it was Micheline reviewed. Would recommend in Porto.

Must go…now! The food was spectacular and the service was even better! Enjoyed marinated scallops with avocado cream and flaked cod in breadcrumbs with “exploding” olives. The orange and vanilla crème brûlée is a requirement during your visit. Highly recommended!

Our Hotel suggested this restaurant. Because they are nominated in the Michelin guide. I have to say, the food was excellent. But the explanation of the dishes by the waitresses was very poor. One just said; this is the bread. While having a selection of bread!? Other dishes were also placed on the table and they thought no explanation was necessary? The tables are just plain, no tablecloth or fine glases. The manager also gave us some looks, but did not attempt to ask us if something was wrong. For us this restaurant does not deserve a Michelin nomination. A few days later we had dinner in another Michelin nominated restaurant (Le Monument) and they really deserve a view stars. For Cantinho do Alvillez, there was no management to control this place and staff who dont knows their products. Very unfortunate, because we did like the dishes from the kitchen!

Incredible! The scallop and mushroom risotto is one the best meals I’ve ever had in my life. The octopus tartare is as also insanely delicious. I found it reasonably priced considering the quality of the food.

I loved the starter of prawns with garlic, lemon and wine which was delicious, as was the desert of chocolate cake with strawberry ice-cream 🥰. I didn't fancy alot the main course , the cod which didn't work well for me. The environment is relaxed and romantic. Fantastic restaurant.

Great option in Porto, a must visit for anyone looking for a good gastronomic experience in town. Starters were very good, definitely recommended the shrimp and the octopus tartare. The mains were also pretty tasty and a good note for the cod fish. Staff was fantastic throughout the evening. Good selection of wines as well. All included, expect something around 60/70EUR pp.

Affordable Michelin Star quality cuisine in Porto. Good price quality relationship. We were a little impatient with our main meal, we asked for the duck, but the wait was worth every minute! incredibly tasty oven roasted it practically melted in your mouth ! We also tried the cod nuggets Wich were also superb

Their lunch menu is the way to go! It’s very cost effective and gives you a few different options for each course. The chorizo and egg appetizer was delicious as was the tagliatelle. The cod fritters were decent but I wouldn’t order them again. Service was a bit all over the place. Reservations are needed.

  • 5/5 Sabrina 1 year ago on Google
This was one of the best places we tried in Porto. Aside from the marinated scallops (the guacamole overpowered them), everything was great and you can tell they use high-quality ingredients. I would especially recommend the cod nuggets and red curry duck.

Best food we had in Porto! We wanted to go here for dinner but couldn’t get a spot without a reservation so we immediately booked for lunch the next day. The staff here is professional, friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed their service compared to the bad service we experienced during our trip in Porto. For starters we had the scallops, octopus tartar, and the oven roasted cheese. Mains included scallop risotto, veal risotto, fish and shrimp, and the roasted octopus. Everything was delicious!

We walked by this place during our stay in Porto (August 2023). It was about a 2 minute walk from our Air BnB. We were looking for something to snack on and this called out to us. Food was great - drinks were great. Definitely recommend this while in Porto.

  • 5/5 Leticia S. 1 year ago on Google
We were able to get a table for a late dinner. Service was kind of slow (but just like typical European speed of service :-) ), but the food was amazing - creative and tasty. The “exploding” olives were actually a gastronomical creation - made of olive emulsion and shaped like an olive.

  • 4/5 Borja Samsó A. 2 years ago on Google
Good option if you’re in the city center although a bit more expensive than the average restaurant in Porto. Really tasty shrimp tacos, and then grilled octopus and steak tartar as main dishes. One glass of Douro, a beer and a bottle of water. Total 74€. What bothers me is that they add a suggested tip and give you the total including that tip and then you have to tell the waiter at his face: oh no, I don’t want to give you tip. I’m against tips, if they do it well I’ll give a tip, but don’t impose me tips, this is not the US.

Starters - bread, seafood soup, prawns Mains - veal in curry sauce, mushroom and scallop risotto, steak sandwich Dessert - hazelnut mousse/ice-cream, raspberry sorbet Bread came with tomatoes and a truffle spread. Truffle spread was delicious. There were three types of bread one of which was a thin cut toasted crispy bread which was my favourite. Veal in curry sauce - meat was extremely tender. Curry sauce was not spicy and plentiful. The rice was of high quality Risotto - scallops were fresh. Risotto had the right level of bite and was creamy. Steak sandwich - as expected nothing special to call out. The bread at the bottom was a bit soggy Hazelnut ice-cream mousse - came in three layers. I would recommend to have each bite containing all three i.e. stick your spoon straight in. High recommend this dessert. Raspberry sorbet - came in a small jar. The sorbet came with some ground nuts. Overall flavour was alright and texture was refreshing.

Oh what a find - a michellian star restaurant with a local price?!? The set price menu is a great deal with three course options and good number of selections per course. The rump steak and eggs were delicious with a nice brown sauce. The beef was tender even though it was a rump. The red curry duck was a very tasty, with a slightly gamey fatty duck in, what else, red curry sauce. I would order this because I love duck! The beef cheeks in curry was also tasty with a large mix of vegetables- zucchini, carrots, purple onions, snow peas, and green apple garnish. The curry seemed to be a mix of NO spice red/orange containing 4 pieces of beef cheek. Very delectable and I would order this again because I like curry, but only after getting a full dish of the duck. The orange Creme Brule was a touch of citrus with a nice caramelized sugar coating. Get this! The atmosphere gets a big mark down due to the annoying gnats buzzing around our sangria and meal. We killed several of them a found nearly a dozen of them taking a siesta on the wall next to where we were sitting. Maybe a bug zapper near the kitchen would help.

Food was great, and that is the point. The environment was more pretentious than other restaurants rated highly by food critics around the world. This spot is business-first and came with an ego in tow — maybe because they’re in a tourist area? I learned after the fact that this business is a chain between Oporto and Lisboa. Prices match the quality of food. I got the camarãos, green beans, croquettes, and seasoned scallops. I recommend the first three but the raw scallops were served warm over something alike guacamole. Well-plated but not good.

  • 4/5 V Y. 1 year ago on Google
We had a lovely evening visiting this restaurant, the menu is quite slim so you do not get overwhelmed by the variety. For starters we went for the melted cheese which was phantasmagorical, and the beef croquettes which were a delicious pairing. For mains we went for the flaked cod with greens- which was okay. I feel the main was abit boring, but the starters made up for it. Slightly unexpectedly the highlight of this restaurant for me were the desserts that we had, especially the orange blossom brûlée. A definite must try.

Starters are amazing but the main course was bit normal, the reason I choose the restaurant was based on magazine reviews saying that the chefs is on the creative side which is you could see on the starters. As for service if you are used to laid back style well you should inform the servers in advance it took 1 minute between starters and main course which I would consider more fast food style then restaurant eating

This place was recommended to me by a friend. Had a lovely evening here. Arrived at 19:00 which was a bit early, all the waiters sort of hovering around us/ the bar but despite that they were very friendly and welcoming. Nice bread and amazing truffle butter/olives to start with. We opted for three courses, for me the scallops, fish curry and hazelnut dessert. All very good but especially enjoyed the dessert with the suggested wine. Would definitely recommend but go a little later so it will be more lively.

Food was fine nothing extraordinary. The portions were small for the price. The fríes were not good at all it tasted like fish, i guess the oil was not changed. The waiters were not really nice. In addition, my boyfriend told them it was my birthday when I booked and wrote especially an email to ask them about it. They didn’t even congrat me nor made something special even if asked before. ( my boyfriend told me afterwards that in his email he told them if nothing was made I would cancel the reservation but they never answered).

I'll be back for sure. (Original) Comida deliciosa. O staff é amistoso e muito expedito.
