Nice historical castle in front of the ocean, the entrance is for 0.5 euro, you could enjoy a really nice sunset from there and you could visit the museum inside the fort. The place is well located and worth a visit, it’s suitable for meditation in the morning or at the sunset hours. I definitely recommend to visit it and enjoy the amazing sounds of the ocean on the top of it

Kleine Festung mit tollem Ausblick, zu einem unschlagbar günstigen Preis. In Verbindung mit einem Ausflug ins Sealife gegenüber und einem Strandspaziergang, sehr empfehlenswert.

What a scenic location! Wow. The spacious environment and the wind, amazing! Definitely a place to visit. A totally different ambience from the core areas of the city. Spend time at the beach and experience the water. Getting there is easy when you use the hop-on, hop-off bus service. One tip is to time this visit because the way back to the core city centre during the evening will be high traffic. Still, on the positive side, you get to see the views slowly as the bus inches through traffic. Amazing castle placement. Well constructed and sturdy. Befuddling construction tech they had at that time! The atmosphere was peaceful and tranquil as you listened to the wind and waters hitting the shoreline. If only they had some Aperol Spritz available while I was closer to this site.

(Translated by Google) The Cheese Castle (Fort of San Francisco) owes its to the fact that it was built on top of a cheese-shaped granite stone. Built in the 17th century, Castle Cheese served as a defense against pirates of North Africa. Due to its strategic location, it offers a unique view of the Atlantic and the public can enjoy the events and cultural programming that takes place there, since it has been recently restored. The Castle of Queijo has walls of stone masonry shooting platforms with historic cannons, drawbridge and a gate with the arms of Portugal. The Castle is opposite Porto City's largest avenue, Boavista Avenue one of the noble areas of Porto City, flanked by beautiful houses. It is also possible to have access to Montevideo Avenue and Brasil Avenue.

This was a surprise visit for us. We saw the fort from a distance and decided to check it out. We were glad we did. Entrance fee is €0.50. The fort is well maintained and offers plenty of photo ops of the Atlantic and beaches. There is a small museum and cafe down below.

A small fort pitched on the rock and ditch all around it. It has a drawbridge for it safety. It has a history of its own and currently with Association of Commandos. The location of the fort is excellent and both side large beach with fine sand exist. There is nominal entry fee and a Commando Bar serves drinks at a reasonable rates.

The best castle in the world. Just 0.50€ entrance and a gorgeous view over the Atlantic Ocean. Very worth a trip. Nice architecture of the ancient building talks a piece of Portuguese history. Also notice the exhibition inside the castle and the friendly staff. You will reach this castle via the bus 500. After the visit you can relax at the big beach or enjoy the delicious sea food in Matosinhos.

It is not known for certain the year on which this Castle of St. Francis Xavier was founded; It is to be presumed to have been by the years 1661 or 1662, with our backs threatened by the Armada da Galicia (Henrique Duarte de Sousa and Reis. Notes for the history of the military government of Porto until the 19th century.) In perfect condition, it is under the guard of the Command Association (North Delegation) which maintains a historical-military museum and a program of cultural and animated events, open to the general public. The fort has a plant in the shape of a triangular polygon with solid stone walls, bought by pentagonal guaritas in the vertices covered by domes. In Terraplane, large shooting platforms, ornament with historical cannons, and service buildings (command house, troop barracks, paiol and cistern). The defenses are completed by pits, levadiça bridge and monumental gate of re -plan access, on the ground side (north), with arc -shaped, topped by a shield with the weapons of Portugal. An oratory, under the invocation of St. Francis Xavier, was primarily placed in the room of the Fort's command house.

It's a small fortress. we need to pay 0.5euros for the entrance. The weather was not so good in February, really windy actually, so we couldn't stay outside for much time. There is a small cafeteria. And inside there are many oil paintings on the wall, and a small handicrafts shop. We to see all the fortress only took us 30min and no more. The place is really far from city center, if you don't have much time for the trip, you can skip this place.
