The Gorgeous Fountain of the Lions (Portuguese: Fonte dos Leões), is a 19th-century fountain built by French company Compagnie Générale des Eaux pour l'Etranger, in the civil parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau e Vitória in the municipality of Porto. Cast by the Val d’Osne foundry in France, it is a copy, in most parts, of the fountain in the Town Hall Square of Leicester, England.

Known as Fountain of Lions, is eight meters in diameter and six meters high. It has four winged lions of majestic size, each one spouting water from its mouth, and two plates that complete its height. At the time The water that supplied the western part of the city was also carried from here, ending in the Pasteleira reservoir in the center of the City Water Museum.

The beauty of the fountain makes you stop and be ready to take some photos, especially for the green color. YOU MUST SEE IT.

Iconic but unfortunately renovated instead of restored

A fountain is always a special place. Beware of it and keep the place clean ! You are not alone - save the planet.

Located in a lovely square, is this ornate bronze fountain, with lion figurines holding up the fountain dish, it adds beauty the the area, that is definitely worth a visit.

Good place for a short break and refresh your mood. Nearby areas are also very good. If you have some time, you can take rest here or nearby park. There are some cafe bars where you can have a great time with your loved ones. Auto service also available here which allows you to reach the nearby metro station, bus stop and shoping malls. The only missing point is that I was unable to find a free car parking near this place.

Visited this place after my dinner since it was in close proximity to my hotel. The whole architecture around the area was amazing. I highly recommend walking and exploring the places

The fountains have cleare water and you can se the church with people on the roof.

One of the top sights in porto. This is the city centre. There is the same fountain downtown in Patras, Greece!!

The Fountain of Lions : beautiful statues but often overlooked as most tourists are photographing the beautiful tiles of the church “do Carmo” on the corner.

Must be visited during the day and night separately. During the day, you can always find some people gathering for the tours and some people dancing. At night, it's a place of gathering for young people before the actual party starts!

Nice fountain :) Not too crowded area (end of March visit) - very close to Livraria Lello.

It appears sometime in January or February 2023, it was repainted. And it looks great.
