Statue of Homem do Leme is a bronze sculpture by Américo Gomes. The work pays homage to the Fishermen represented by the Man who vigorously grips a Rudder. The statue was commissioned by Henrique Galvão and Américo Gomes for the Colo Portuguese nial from June 16th to September 30th, which took place at Palácio de Cristal. However, after the end of the exhibition, due to the great success that the work had, a committee was formed that decided to cast it in bronze and install it on the Passeio Marítimo. The statue was unveiled on January 27, 1938.
