Had such a lovely evening in Xau Laura! The staff are amazing, the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the food is outstanding. We had rissol for starter, followed by sande de Pernil (like a pulled pork sandwich with tender pork slow cooked in wine) and cheesecake and chocolate mousse for dessert. I don’t speak much Portuguese, and luckily the owners and staff all have excellent English and were able to explain each dish to me and help me choose what I would like. Would definitely prioritise a visit here again.

As an American, what can I say the food was delicious. I got the Posta Barrosa, the chips were otherworldly (imagine lays chips but not as salty or dry, comparable to a fresh fries from McDonalds but without the salt). Now I see why this place is highly rated, it has a chic vibe, where you can pull up with friends and have a beer while standing outside to have chill vibes before a night out. I digress you won’t be disappointed

I can’t decide what did I like better… the food or the kind stuff! We were amazed with our dinner so we went the next day again! Everything was delicious! Kudos to stuff that translated and explained the whole menu🤩 Steak was my ultimate choice! You need to try bolhinos de bacalhau😍 can’t wait to come back next year🫠

Found this place online and glad I did! Amazing and authentic food. The pork sandwiches and empanadas (we had octopus and shrimp) were phenomenal. The staff were really friendly and explained the menu to us as it was in Portuguese. Prices were very reasonable, felt like a local spot. I would recommend this place- a must try!

Really enjoyed our lunch here. We happened upon it when our original plan didn’t work and were slightly skeptical of such a high rating but it is well deserved. They have a tiny cozy dining room with three tables and they are popular so would recommend going early! Their menu is all Portuguese but they were very happy to translate for us. Loved the bolinhos de bacalhau, alheira, sande de pernil, and cheesecake!

Wow! The best sandwich I’ve eaten in my life, the house wine was great, service and overall atmosphere off the charts - DO NOT MISS THIS IF YOU’RE IN PORTO!

After 2 years of anticipating this moment, me and my partner and I finally managed to have a dine-in meal at Xau Laura, and I can definitely say that this was well-worth the wait. As tourists, we visited Porto in 2023 and were only able to try the passionfruit cheesecake. This cheesecake was so delectable, fresh, and light that it left a strong impression on us. We had made up our mind to dine-in at Xau Laura the next time we visited Porto. Fast forward to 2025, and our wish was fulfilled. The lovely family who runs the restaurant has clearly created a lively community space where everyone is welcome. Despite it being a busy Friday night, we managed to secure a few seats. Everyone at the restaurant was super-polite and attentive and ready to help us with the menu. We ended up ordering the Sande de pernil (the pork sandwich) and the bacalhau la laura (the salted cod with veggies). The pork was cooked to perfection and melted in our mouths as we bit into the sandwich. This juicy pork with the crispy yet soft bread, served with a side of freshly cooked potato crisps, offered the right blend of textures and flavours to comfort us. The cod, once again, was simple and absolutely delicious. Even though I'm not a massive fan of salted cod, the love and care that was put into the dish made me dive right in and left me feeling content. We finished our meal with the red cheesecake, which had a berry compote on top. Once again, we were blown away by how light and refreshing the cheese cake felt. We left the restaurant with our palates satisfied and hearts warm from all the hospitality and delicious food that we were offered. Anyone who is ever in Porto, tourist or local, this place is an absolute gem. I look forward to visiting Porto again with the dreams of biting into that sande de pernil once more.

A little over 200 m from the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal you find this cozy restaurant Xau Laura. The English speaking Staff is helpful and courteous.

Just randomly found the local neighbourhood shop because it nears a public carpark, but surprisingly the food was amazing, strongly recommend the pork sandwiches.

I absolutely love this place for their traditional Portuguese sandwiches with meat and cheese. The meat is incredibly tender and flavorful, and the chips that accompany the sandwiches are like no others I’ve tried in Porto. They are natural and not overly crispy to the point of cutting your mouth, as many places tend to do. I also really enjoyed the pasta, the soup of the day, and the pastéis de bacalhau. I can’t help but mention their excellent selection of dry white wines. The service is top-notch, with friendly and attentive staff. We’ve moved recently, and it’s such a pity the place doesn’t offer delivery—I’d love to enjoy their food more often at home.

Lovely unassuming family run eatery, frequented by locals serving quality Portuguese dishes. Menu is all in Portuguese but was patiently explained by the waiter. No bs couvert. We stumbled upon this place for a late lunch and were so glad find it as it’s so close to our hotel. The bacalhau pasties melt in the mouth. The pork sandwiches are soft, juicy and full of flavour. The Alheira (Portuguese Sausage) is great. All washed down with Super Bok! No faults at all. I hope you guys stay in business for a long time. ~ 15-20 euros per person.

During our visit to Porto, we had lunch at Xau Laura because we planned to go see the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal afterwards. We ordered the Quiche de Légumes with a Salad and the Pork Sandwich with Chips . Both dishes were super delicious. Everyone working there was super chill and friendly, and kindly walked us through the menu. They spoke English very well and one of them can speak French too. EDIT: Our experience was made even more memorable because a gentleman, probably a regular customer, who was enjoying a glass of wine by himself, gave us his table for a seat at the bar, which was very kind of him. Obrigada, sir!
