I think we kinda got lucky. No reservations, walked in and managed to score a table for 4 and it was raining so bad. We were in for a treat. The lady said we could come in but she needs the table back in an hour. We went on and ordered. I had pork katsudon which is really good. Crunchy and amazing umami flavor. A big portion which is worth it for its price. Rice was fluffy and sauce was spot on. I also had ebi tempura.. 6 pieces of battered shrimps. The batter was not heavy. It was pleasingly crunchy and the dipping sauce was seasoned well. My colleagues had that chashu ramen, the broth seemed very light and healthy for me. Loads of chashu which was very nice of them to do. We also had some rolls. California maki was lovely and crunchy. The ingredients were just right and sized up perfectly too. The other roll with green "sprinkles" was surprisingly good and I wanted to eat all of it, sadly it was not my order and I was full. Next time I would add that to my order. 😊

The food here was absolutely delicious. We had a bowl of miso soup and a selection of sushi. All of the sushi was so good however the Salmon roe nigiri and the Eel nigiri were by far the best we tried and we wished we had ordered more after trying them! We tried the tuna and Salmon sashimi which I wasn't too keen on but I think this was just a personal preference and I didn't get on with the texture of the thick slices of raw fish but I imagine others would like it. The wasabi was very hot and kicked like a mule. The drinks were good and I had a pint of Asahi which was very nice. The service was good however we did keep getting asked if we were ready to order by multiple people, one after another, shortly after receiving the menu's, but with so many options to choose from I would have liked a bit more time as we felt a little pressured to make a decision quickly. Other than that the service was great and staff were really friendly. Would definitely recommend and will be going back again!

Great authentic food and atmosphere. Very friendly personal despite being quite busy. An excelent place to enjoy a relaxing lunch or dinner. We'll definetly be back :-)

We booked a table for Sunday lunch & this was a good idea. The food was exceptional, tasty and well presented. The ramen was the best I've had in a long time.

walked in and felt like I was in Japan. the plum wine, and yuzu wine, tasted great. food arrived quickly and was all delicious. the rainbow sushi was a smart choice, as it had a bit of everything! the mobo tofu was a worthwhile risk, as I'd never seen the dish anywhere before, but it was fantastic! staff were highly accommodating, seemed glad to bring more ginger and some plain rice. I wholeheartedly recommend this place!!

After eating cold Sushi from Tesco I thought that there must be something else. I honestly couldn’t think of a better place to go. Excellent food, excellent service, tasty white wine. This place has opened my eyes up to Japanese food. Absolute perfection. The ramen is unmatched.

Amazing restaurant. Food always delicious and quick. Our go-to for sushi, although the teriyaki and tempura veggies are just as amazing! Each booth/table feels nice and private without being a separate room. Service was excellent. Offered to move us to a warmer table in case we were cold, and gave dad free ice cream with a candle for his birthday! Dimmed the lights and sang for him and everything. Adorable, and good value for money, around £20 per head for a massive amount of food. Definitely recommend.

Celebrating our daughters 16th birthday today. A popular restaurant in Southsea with excellent Japanese food, warm atmosphere and friendly staff.

Japan may be halfway around the world, but the taste and atmosphere of Nihon is available on the British South coast! The layout of the restaurant is very reminiscent of the small and tight streets of Japan's bustling streets, with a single walkway leading to and from the kitchen, and a small curtain separating the tables for that extra privacy/coziness. The food is also super fresh, with the maki and nigiri being oh so right. The seafood ramen was also a treat, with tasty broth and yummy noodles. The staff are also very attentive and check on you to make sure your order is to your liking, so you do feel valued and appreciated for your visit. They also have Asahi on tap! Definitely recommend if you're a fellow aficionado of Japanese food and culture.

I had fried tofu and spicy chicken ramen. The tofu was good but the ramen was not that good. The noodle were all stuck together in one lump in the bowl, chicken was quite stiff and stock lacked flavour. A shame as I was looking forward to the meal.

We visited last night without a booking. A table was available right away. Each table was partitioned by curtain all wall to make your space more intimate, a great addition! The food came within 10 minutes of ordering and it was all delicious - particularly the southsea maki. The prices were reasonable aswell which was a bonus.

I have been dining in Sakura and having lots of take aways from them since few years. Their quality of sushi is always good and on same high level. Prawn gyoza ramen - quite salty and spicy ramen, tasty gyoza. Rainbow maki - one of my favourites 💜

This restaurant is always busy, this is usually a good sign! We weren't disappointed. There's a great variety of dishes on the menu for everyone's taste, including vegetarian and what we ordered was fantastic, tasty and filling. The only downside to my experience was that the service was a little too efficient; I made the mistake of pausing while eating my meal and my dish was taken away before I'd finished it. I wanted to savour every morsel...⁹ The restaurant is small so you should book in advance. Even then prepare to wait a little.. Very popular, lovely staff, lovely food and reasonable prices.

Good service but not that spacious. Food: SUSHI 10/10 - Love the Sashimi platter. Very tasty and you really taste the freshness of the fish. Dumpling 8/10 - Delicious. Nothing much to say but really love the dumpling as compared to other asian restaurant in UK. Ramen 4/10 - I don't recommend if you're looking for a ramen fix. Soup was not that tasty.

The best Japanese food we have ever had! So authentic, high quality, so much choice! The service was incredible and we have to mention Rachel she is wonderful and so welcoming and friendly. Consistently good! They take walk ins which she great and although they sometimes seem a bit impatient— it’s just efficiency, great quality food in my opinion.

Friendly staff, we managed to get a last minute reservation on the day by the phone an hour before!Quick service. Extremely yummy food everything was so tasty, good portions and good prices!

The only reason I’m giving this restaurant 4 stars is because we made a reservation at 9:30, but got our table only by 10. The staff were very accommodating and friendly though, but I feel they should have alerted the people who had already finished dining, paid their bill but were sitting and drinking. Nonetheless the food and the ambience is amazing! Katsu Curry is to die for! Very nice vibrant restaurant in the heart of Portsmouth. I will visit again in the future.
