Absolutely loved it. We gained admission on a free entry ticket and quickly found that there is still plenty to see for free here, boathouse 7 and boathouse 4 in particular were fascinating. After three hours we were forced to retire due to aged legs but could easily have spent more time nosing around. We would love to come back another time and gladly pay to get into the premium exhibitions. Fabulous experience 👍👍👍👍👍

So much to see and do. Lots of history. Pace yourself and plan your day. By the Ultimate ticket and use it as many times as you want, we used it over two days. It includes all the attractions also the harbour tour and waterbus to the submarine museum. Valid for a year so fantastic value.

Tickets good value for money be used you can go back to the same attractions multiple times in the year. Really enjoyed the victory ship mainly because the audio guides. Made the ships experience much more enjoyable and informative. The warrior ship was much bigger and good to walk round, although lacked information about what things were or background of the ship. There was a few 'actors' hanging around the ship that were good fun. Also did the Marie Rose museum briefly but ran out of time so will have to return to finish this.

Great historic place to visit for all ages. There's plenty to see in a day. We went over two days as your ticket lasts a year and we feel that there's so much that we missed. It's definitely worth getting the ultimate ticket as it's great value for money. If you're a blue light card holder you get 30% off the price. We'll be back again soon to see the rest and revisit the Mary Rose exhibition.

Such a lot to see. You can't do it all in a day. Harbour boat trip, nice cafe areas with helpful staff, children's play area, the Mary Rose, The Warrior, Nelson's flagship. The staff at the pay desk were so helpful. One reminded us to use the blue charts discount which gave 30% off. That's a huge saving. So if you have a blue lights card DO NOT BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE. we were given the online price and the discount at the till do £50 tickets cost us £30 each. If you don't have this card, then to save £5 per person buying tickets in advance. These tickets last a year. The cafe area was reasonable prices and nice quality food and drinks. The historical actors onboard the ships were so interesting. They speak to to normally but they are keeping in character and telling to about things in their time period. At first it's not obvious then it clicks. Everywhere is well sign posted so it's easy to get around. Parking is fairly nearly, about 7 minutes walk and not bad price at 7.50 for up to 8 hours. The displays are interesting, the audio guides give to a lot of detail. The projected scenes on the Mary Rose are fantastic. It's a good day out.

Just a breathtaking and inspirational place for young and old. You can't fail to be impressed by our Naval History. The staff are amazingly friendly and knowledgeable and the Victory and Mary Rose need some time to appreciate, and to the work that the curators are doing. Make sure you take the harbour tour of the warships too (it drops you off at Gunwharf after). If you time it for when HMS Queen Elizabeth and/or Prince of Wales are in Port, then you're in for an even bigger treat too. Jist awe inspiring.

Great visit. I chose to visit the Royal Navy Museum and HMS Warrior. The RN museum has a lot about admiral Nelson and lots about the RNs sailing ships. Plus some interesting stuff on the modern navy. There are guides soon dressed in uniform or period costume throughout the museum and they were friendly and helpful. HMS Warrior built in 1861 was huge. You are able to go from the main deck all the way down to the engine room and furnaces. Again there are various guides in period dress/uniform who were friendly and helpful. All very interesting. Allow 2hrs for the museum - longer if you stop and watch all the videos and interactive stuff. And about 1 to 2 hrs for HMS Warrior. You will not be able to get round everything in one day. Your best bet for tickets is to get the ultimate explorer pass online as you don't have to pay anything extra for the main attractions and the pass is valid for as many visits as you want for 12 months (at the same price as a 3 attraction ticket and there's way more than 3 attractions)

  • 5/5 Mark N. 1 year ago on Google
Well worth the visit as the tours of the Warrior, M33 and Victory are well done with costumed characters on the Warrior to talk to and guide you who are well versed in the history of the ship. Be aware that the Victory is currently undergoing a big restoration project and is shrouded in scaffolding but you can still go inside for a self guided audio tour. You need to allow 2 days to see everything so as not to rush anything. We spent a good part of the day in the Mary Rose, it was fantastic and very well laid out. We would visit again.

AMAZING! so much to explore. So much to see! Def worth the money. You can choose between different types of tickets. The staff is super nice, helpful and know every little detail. It's really fun to learn all the information. Great for kids! Many different restaurants. Clean toilets. Parking available at the carpark nearby.

Great bit if history. I do think the ticket prices are a tad steep however if it all goes back into the restoration then I can understand it. Really enjoyed the audio tour of HMS Victory. I'm sad it's not still in service to annoy Macron.....

A high quality museum! There is a lot to see, and explore. Museum itself is huge... you can take: boat trips, explore 18th century famous ships, visit in-doors museums etc. Highly recommending to visit with your families, or friends. And if you thinking to visit this place then buy the "Ultimate explorer ticket" you'll save some money. And you'll get access to all attractions, and you can revisit this place whole full year with same ticket you bought. Have a great time!

Absolutely fabulous place for anyone who likes history, naval history or ships, with the Mary Rose exhibition, the Victory, HMS Warrior 1860 and a huge range of other exhibits and museums. It's all really well organised and presented, with very knowledgeable guides and, in some places, actors. Visited with a group of friends and managed to see pretty much everything over 3 very full days (but could have spent even longer!). Incredible value at £38, which covers all attractions and also lasts for 12 months. The (included) harbour tour by boat also allows you to see whatever modern ships are in port at the time (we saw - amongst others - the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Navy's fleet flagship). Thoroughly enjoyable and very highly recommended.

If you are planning to visit more than once, definitely get the full experience ticket that is valid for one year so you don’t have to rush and can see as much as possible when you are in Portsmouth. I’ve already visited the dockyard twice and haven’t seen everything yet. It’s so interesting and there is plenty to explore. There is also a nice restaurant with a decent range of food options.

Absolutely brilliant, buy the Ultimate Ticket so you can gain entry to everything. Mary Rose is unbelievable and a must see if you have limited time go there first. Cafe's are expensive but very good quality. Very helpful, nice and knowledgeable staff. You definitely can't visit everything in one day. We saw all the ships and did the Harbour tour in 5 hours, we missed the museums and the submarine. Will definitely make the journey from Yorkshire again to visit. Excellent experience

What a fantastic day out! I haven't been to the Dockyard since I waved Nelson goodbye. Well anyway, its been a long time. The tickets, if you buy wisely, will last you a year and believe me you will want a few visits. The Mary Rose's new museum is absolutely amazing. You really have to experience it to believe it. Plus a new 4D divers film that shows the discovery of the ship...its a winner with all the family. We spent 3 hours in the Mary Rose museum so ran out of time to visit the Fire Power museum and of course the good old Victory. With my yearly tickets I'll be back. One last big praise for the staff who are brilliant, knowledgeable and happy in their work. They are a fountain of knowledge and are keen to explain everything about the Ship. Thanks to all for a memorable day.

We arrived to the Dockyard ten minutes earlier than it actually opened. We waited untill they opened the gate which was at 10am. The staff was very helpful with telling me all the details of what were all the tickets for because there were three tickets for particular places, we bought the yearly ticket that can be used to visit all of the buildings. Sadly the HMS Victory was in restoration so we couldn't see the whole ship from the outside but we could visit the inside and see how they were fixing it. There were gift shops EVERYWHERE. Every corner we turned there was either a small gift shop or a massive one. They even put a gift shop into one of the ships that we went into... But on the other hand it was a great experience, seeing what the ships looked like from the inside and even the crew acted like they were from the victoriana era which was a plus. The crew even showed us how the canons would have worked and how loud they would've been. It took us the nearly the whole day to the look through every single building. The restaurant in building no.4 was open but didn't serve food, only drinks. They also had a whole part dedicated to the Mary Rose. They had a 4D video about how they found the ship, they showed us how they got the part of the ship out of the water and in the beginning they started spraying bubbles to make it look real that we were going underwater, they also sprayed bubbles at the end when the video had finished. The building was quite large and we spent at least an hour and a half walking around looking at how life was like in the ship. There was also a harbour tour. We didn't need to show our tickets (like in most of the places we were in). It took us to see the ships that were for the British Navy and they were telling us everything about the ships. They took us to see many of the different army ships that were stationed there and were telling us every detail about what the ship went through and where they will go next. If the weather had turned out like we hoped it would've been better but even with the weather like it was, it was a really nice and fun thing to do in Portsmouth.

Had a really fantastic day here with my partner, seeing several of the attractions. Due to the way the ticketing is priced, you can pay separately to visit individual attractions, or get a ticket for all the attractions that are part of the Dockyard that's good for a year, and it felt pretty easily cost effective to do that. So not only did we have a wonderful day learning a lot, we've got one or two more day trips here to look forward to in the future. There's so much to see, presented in very high quality, and helpful and friendly staff all through.

Really interesting day out. Lots to see and do for all ages. For an extra £1 you can convert your day ticket into an annual one. One day is nowhere near enough time to take everything in. We live 50 miles away but have returned for the weekend to do more things, visit more ships and drink more coffee! The 75 minute tour of the Victory was really informative. Everyone there is polite and helpful. Highly recommended.

One adult and four kids. Pouring with rain. The Mary Rose exhibition is brilliant leisurely and informative. Stunning history. With a fun Calligraphy set for the kids. This means I sit down bonus. The Action Station for the kids was good only lacking a small coffee station which I am sure would have a roaring trade. The kids have stuff to do here. Again the parent rest stop...sitting down. Most of it free except Laser Quest. The large restaurant area had space for plenty of people and us on the ground floor which helps with kids. Also an inside picnic area for your own drinks and good Coffee too. Considering the heavy rain lots of chairs and space. Food looked good but on a budget. A great day out and we didn't finish it all. We will be back.

Portsmouth historic dockyard is a must visit for anyone who enjoys naval history. Being able to explore war ships from different periods of history is wonderful. You could easily spend a whole day here taking in all the information from the exhibits and the staff were great with our little boy encouraging him to try some of the more hands-on experiences. This was my first time seeing the Mary Rose and the way she's displayed is great, you get to see it from multiple floors and angles so you can really appreciate her lines and the size of her. Plenty of recovered artifacts too which are amazing to see. It's a shame Victory is currently undergoing restoration work (but obviously I appreciate they're doing the work!) as you can't see her in all her glory but the work is much needed so I look forward to returning and seeing her when the work is completed. It does give you a chance to see her structure though. Food was a bit pricey but that's the same anywhere you go these days. Overall I'm looking forward to going back someday!

Great attraction. Lot to see. There are cafes and shops throughout the dockyard. You can buy single attractions or multiple attractions tickets. It is easy to end up spending an entire day in it.

Highly recommend buying an ultimate experience ticket, this gives a fantastic opportunity to visit everything on site and is valid for 12 months. We managed to visit 3 of the main attractions so will make use of the ticket, retuning to explore the rest. All staff are very friendly and helpful. An amazing place to visit. Parking is close by and at a reasonable price.

I love coming to the Dockyard on my day off. The price may feel a bit expensive, but over the past 8 months of my current Ultimate Explorer Ticket, I've used it enough for each exhibit to be about £3 each! My favourite exhibit is the Mary Rose - an amazing museum and some really poignant displays - but I also love the HMS Alliance. If you park at the Submarine Museum, you can get the Water Taxi across to the main site and save quite a bit of money on parking. There is far more than can be seen in one visit, so if you're not local, you should carefully plan your day to get the most out of it.

The whole Dockyard is really well organised and presented. I visited during summer holidays and there were lots of families but no particular area was overcrowded. Queues can be long but are usually fairly fast moving. The Mary Rose is a definite highlight, it’s a whole museum on its own. I really recommend going to it first. The tickets are pretty expensive but are valid for a year, there’s a lot to see so you can definitely revisit to get some more value out of your tickets.

A fascinating insight into British naval history, with particular emphasis on the HMS Victory and the ill fated Mary Rose. The dockyards also contain HMS Warrior, another important milestone in naval history. Although we didn't visit the Naval museum, it does appear to offer many exhibits. We found that the Victory and Mary Rose (with it's own museum) quite sufficient. There are two cafe's, from what we could see. However, there isn't a central gift shop. The gift shop for the Victory, surprisingly, is actually in the Victory. Which, with the one system in place due to this covid business, means you can't go back to it (unlike the other two).

The dockyard contains many historic ships and buildings and is a fantastic day out. We started with The Mary Rose Museum. The conservation and restoration of Henry VIII’s flagship was awe inspiring. Next was a trip on the water to see the harbour and naval ships. Back on land The Royal Naval Museum was impressive too.

The dockyard itself is great. However it's sad to see HMS Victory looking so sad and in need of a fresh paint job. It would be nice to have more information in the museum, as some of the exhibits seemed to have been dumbed down too much, while I am sure some visitors only want snippets of information others want the whole story.

What a great place to visit. You need the whole day as lots to explore. Be prepared it's very expensive, but worthwhile as there is so much to see and learn about. Definitely will be back. I missed the boat trip to the submarine museum. I'm definitely coming back. I hear the harbour tour is very good.

A fascinating place needing more than one day so the annual pass is worth it. Staff excellent and some 'in character'. HMS Victory is undergoing repairs so a little [but fully understandable] disappointing, though the guide was brilliant. The submarine museum very interesting and accessible via a boat ride. HMS Warrior a real gem and beautiful with Xmas lights. My only concern was the ticket price. I work with many very disadvantaged children and to be on Free School Meals the income is very low and would exclude any family visit. For such a central part of the UK's history, there will be thousands excluded from this cultural capital experience. Does the Dockyard operate on a similar basis to many of the French museums that are free on one day of the month...if not, are the next generation to be held in ignorance?

  • 5/5 M17el M. 1 year ago on Google
The dockyard itself is a great place to visit. Starts to get a bit pricey when paying for the visits tot he different attractions. For two adults and a child.to.include one visit to a attraction ( we did the victory) it cost over 70 pounds. Although cant knock the history

  • 4/5 urban w. 6 months ago on Google
Nice place with obvious history on hand both with past and current events lots of walking meant around walked 4 miles on just one exhibit (great for getting your steps in) and the dockyard tour on the boat/ferry is very nice and informative and saw some ships hadn’t seen before. As with most places these days though the cafe was VERY expensive with only 2 of us costing just shy of £20 for two drinks, 2 muffins and 1 sandwich. Fortunately the food was quite nice! Good day but picnic required.

We have Ultimate Explorer tickets and are gradually covering all on offer over several visits. The Mary Rose exhibition is so much better than 20 years ago, an enormous amount to see and learn. It's incredibly well presented. We visited the Victory recently and for the first time in 50 years of visiting the Victory, I was able to walk underneath it. Something even those that lived on it at the time of Trafalgar couldn't have dreamt of doing. What a perspective. You've got to experience it

  • 5/5 Simon N. 9 months ago on Google
There is a lot to see and do here. We spent three hours on the Mary Rose exhibit alone. I'd recommend a visit over two or maybe even three days as there is so much to see. You can pay per exhibit you enter, but we chose the pass that lets you enter all exhibits which also lasts for a full year if you want to revisit. The staff and volunteers are ace, very helpful and friendly. Plenty of toilets and cafes and restaurants although the price of food and drink seems a touch expensive to me but this is the south of England.

  • 5/5 Dominik J. 9 months ago on Google
An absolutely brilliant experience that can take up your entire day. Visiting beautifully restored and preserved historical ships is a great thing to do if you love naval history. The stars of the exhibition are the HMS Victory (currently under restoration so half of it isn't visible from the outside) and the Mary Rose along with other great exhibitions.

  • 5/5 Kay A. 9 months ago on Google
Fantastic day out. You really need to get there when it opens. We still haven't done everything and need to go back for another visit which is included with your ticket purchase for next 12 months. So fascinating.

  • 5/5 Judy H. 1 year ago on Google
There are several museums on the dockyard site, including the Mary Rose and HMS Victory. You can easily spend a number of days here and there is a ticket that allows multiple visits over a year that does not cost much more than a single visit to one museum. There are places to eat of variable quality from a good restaurant in the workshops to counters that sell drinks and pastries. It is a good place to bring children.

  • 5/5 Richard O. 2 years ago on Google
Just brilliant. Well organised, friendly informative staff. Had booked tickets after first lockdown but staff traced booking and even gave us complimentary day passes to the Mary Rose museum. Place absolutely spotless and kids loved the free electronic guides on the HMS victory. Just enough info without them losing interest. Highly recommended

Had an absolutely amazing day out here with an autistic family member. The staff were very accommodating and supportive which gave an amazing experience. Overall the site has some interesting history that is set out in an a large site, covering everything from the Tudor period to the present day. It's a really interesting day out and I wholly recommend.

What a fantastic place to visit. Fully recommend buying the ultimate explorer ticket as you see all the attractions and the harbour tour. HMS Warrior was incredible, HMS Victory was amazing (get the audio tour) but the Mary Rose was something else.

A great place to visit if you are into your history. The Victory was amazing, if you visit make sure you have the audio set, it makes the visit so much more interesting ( free on arrival at Victory). HMS Warrior was really good too with staff in character of period.

Excellent place to visit for a really interesting day out. So much to see and explore, but make sure you give yourself lots of time as it just flys once you get going. We went in the shipbuilding centre and HMS Victory and spent almost 3 and a half hours. So many thing to get involved in and really get a feel for what it would be like.

Loved the time we had there on our annual passes, will be back as HMS Victory was closed due to filming. Staff at Mary Rose very good to talk to. Shop had decent selection of gifts at reasonable prices, food in cafe good but a bit expensive.

Absolutely fantastic. We bought an ultimate explorer ticket so looking forward to going back and seeing what we didn’t have time to do this time around. Visited many times before and walking onboard Warrior and Victory never loses its thrill. The Mary Rose is completely absorbing too and the new displays and layout are fantastic - so good to see how it is now after many visits over the years seeing the different processes it has gone through - absolutely brilliant! Can’t wait to go back!

An amazing place to visit, did little research before visiting and was initially surprised by the cost but I was pleasantly surprised at the value you get. Thos place is incredible for all. I'd bite the bullet and purchase the unlimited ticket as you will need to come back a few times to see it all and fortunately it's an annual pass. I 100% would recommend a visit or 3

Only went to see the Mary Rose museum which was excellently presented and accessible for wheelchairs. The Victory is currently under renovation so is not really in her full glory, wrapped up in coverings as at time of writing (July 2023). The dockyards themselves are worth visiting though with various attractions and cafes on site. Parking in the Wickham Street multi story was not expensive, and is well within walking distance of the entrance.

Great place full of history and ambience, and well presented for family interaction. Plenty of space so didn't feel crowded even on a busy weekend day. Lots to see, highly recommend the ticket that allows 12 months access so you don't feel rushed and like you have missed something! Lots undercover so good for rainy days as well.

  • 5/5 Phil M. 11 months ago on Google
Very good experience at the dockyard. There's lots to see and even more to learn, there are plenty of toilets which are very clean and plenty of places to eat and the food is great as is the coffee. There are also tour guides everywhere and also guide books you can purchase. I have mobility issues and use a Mobility scooter and there's not much I can't access they have pretty much thought of everything. I would definitely recommend this place, it's well worth a visit there is so much to do and see. It's cheaper to buy a yearly ticket for three attractions, that's what I did, and your carer goes for free. I will definitely be returning. Top marks from me

Excellent experience. I watched the recovery of Mary Rose as a child and always wanted to visit. Exploring HMS Warrior was brilliant! Far too much to see in one day but ticket is valid for 12 months. The costumed docents were very knowledgeable and pleasant. Cafe stopped serving food way too early (3pm) but it was a quiet weekday. Had planned to bring elderly relative who changed mind last minute. He would have had limited access to some areas due to his mobility issues and the nature of the museum.

This is a fabulous place to spend a day, learning all about the naval history of England. Well presented displays, informative and clear with volunteer guides that are second to none. They really brought to life what it must have been like in the 15th and 19th centuries, living and working here. Free health care and education when illiteracy was running at 40%!

  • 5/5 glinksted 1 year ago on Google
Vast! So much to do in and around all the beautifully presented and restored ships you need a few days to see/do it all. Warrior is an adventure all in itself, Victory is stunning and The Mary Rose is incredibly well displayed and the full history told in its exhibition centre. The site has many clean and easily accessible toilets, eating and drinking places a plenty, sit down or take away options in the two main eating places (near the entrance and in the Mary Rose centre. Car park a 7 minute walk from main entrance and will cost around £7.50 for your visit. Best value ticket is the Ultimate Explorer, unlimited returns to the site for 12 months and entrance to all exhibits as many times as you want. A highly recommended day out, even if you have kids who don't like boats, they'll love exploring these ones.

It's a big place,a lot to see. We managed HMS Victory & The Mary Rose 4D experience. Thoroughly informative & enjoyable. Very immersive audio commentary on Victory love that - so much to learn. We will have to return to complete the visit, which we'll look forward to. All staff/ helpers are very informative & friendly. Discounts given for Military & Blue light cards. I recommend the guidebook.
