My mom suffers from asthma and is triple vaccinated by the way- tested positive for covid so she was having trouble breathing. They made her wait in the hallway 2-6am just to finally tell her there was no beds available for her. So technically they were waiting for her to just leave on her own due to it being late at night. Didn’t offer her a ride home either. I sincerely hope this place goes out of business. None of the workers there deserve to be in healthcare. No wonder this place has bad reviews.

My mother was not feeling well and EMT took her to Palomar. She usually goes to UCSD. Compare to UCSD the service was faster and the ED was much more cleaner. I was impressed with the care my mother received. I hope no one ever needs to go to ED, but in case you need to go I highly recommend Palomar. I want to thank them for their service yesterday.

Wow. As a doctor who has also been a patient, I can't begin to say how bad this place is. There are laws to protect patient privacy that these people do not know about or refuse to follow. Not only was my family member evaluated and literally examined in the waiting room with dozens of ears listening, I was also a listener as we sat there waiting to go back. I heard the names, birthdates, and health conditions of many strangers (well, not anymore) as I also saw them examined in the same way. I am sorry, but this is literally not legal. I would never let anyone in my family or myself endure such indignity.

I had a procedure done in January at the woman's center and everyone there was fantastic, from start to finish!! The reason for the two stars is their billing department. They have the absolute worst billing dept I have ever dealt with. My insurance paid for my procedure in early February, leaving a credit balance due to me because they overcharged me on my portion of the bill. I have had to make 5 phone calls to them, since February, to get my refund and I still don't have an answer. I have just received the 3rd promise to call me back as soon as they know when I will get my refund. This is absolutely ridiculous and very bad business practice. They also have an employee named Renee who is, so sorry, a "B" from hell. She should not be dealing with the public. Verify with your insurance company, for any procedures, the amount that you are responsible for before you pay these people anything. You won't see your refund for a long time, if at all.

Prepare to have your constitutional rights violated as soon as you enter with a security guard going through your purse and making you empty all pockets then after all of that you get the metal detector! Feel like I’m in prison being treated like a prisoner or a criminal! No where to sit except the floor wast sitting on the floor in ER waiting to be seen for 4hrs had chemicals in eye… burning all the lady did was tell me to go sit back on the floor like a dog! No please just straight disrespectful…

I shocked when i visited this center. i did not have any medical experience in US. this was my first experience. 3 hours waiting in emergency room only to take a X-Ray!!!. unbelievable. The number of staff was more than the patients!!!!. 😐unbelievable. finally, I told the Dr what happen for my hand. She was not even able to recognize!. I can definitely say that their service was worst than 3 world country.

I waited in the emergency room for 10 hours. This was on July 3rd, 2023. I was in the emergency room almost 23 hours and 28,000 worth of x-rays and scans were done. I kept waiting in the room and they came in and said Well we're going to put you in the rest home downstairs. I never saw a doctor I never saw any results of any test. My legs have severe neuropathy I have found out since. I never saw a doctor and I don't even think there was one there. I would rather take my chances at the veterinarian's hospital. It's a very sad state when a hospital has seating in a hallway of about 50 people waiting. I fell to my knees once very painful. No one seems to care about anyone there. There are a mass of people in the emergency room with no insurance that came across the border. Our governor told them if they can't find medical help to go to the emergency room. They are there with common colds it's not an emergency. My husband and I pay $1,700 a month for insurance. I came in screaming with neuropathy. Common colds went in first before me who was in extreme pain. I waited 10 hours in disbelief that this was happening in the United States. I noticed that the staff or whoever reads this posts a copied statement for people who complain because they don't care. I really think people should be seen by how urgent their problem is not by how they come in and take a number. So who's going to pay for all these illegals that come into the emergency room with a cold? WE DO. TAXPAYERS. I CAN'T EVEN GET MY PRIMARY PHYSICIAN TO CALL ME BACK. PALOMAR HOSPITALS HAS TO BE UTMOST WORST HOSPITALS I HAVE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH IN MY LIFE. When an American's tax paying citizen goes into an emergency room crying in pain but has to wait behind illegals with a cold there is just something wrong with the system. Never in my life have I seen such atrocities. There was a patient there who came from Palomar hospital after waiting 17 hours because of illegal aliens. I am not against illegal aliens but if they don't have insurance they need to go to someplace else like Tijuana. As a matter of fact I'm ready to go to Tijuana just to get medical care because it's impossible to get it here. I can no longer walk. I don't know what to do. My doctor's office tells me to go to the emergency room. I can't sit for 10 hours. Probably more like 17 now. I have not had anyone contact me nor have they sent me a form on how I liked my visit to the hospital. They sent me down stairs to some kind of a rest home and no one there speaks English they all speak Filipino. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I can't understand them because I don't speak Filipino. So now I have to lay in bed while lightning strikes all over my feet and legs and there's nothing I can do because I can't get anyone to call me back. What does it take to go into a hospital in an emergency situation and see a doctor? Someone tell me what does it take a knife sticking out of my eye??? We are so frustrated with the bad care we get in the emergency room. A cold is not an emergency You can go to urgent care. To top it all off I have long COVID and no one cares because there's nothing they can do. I even been in contact with Mayo Clinic. They told me to go to my emergency room. I suggest the next time anyone goes to the emergency room you take a Coleman cot to lay down for 10 to 17 hours. Notice the automatic response we get from this wonderful hospital The appreciate our feed but they don't do anything about it. No one contacts us to see how they can help us. I'm at home right now in agony with neuropathy and I can't go to the emergency room cuz I can't set up for 10 hours. This world has gone insane.

We showed up to the Emergency Room and were helped immediately and rushed back with zero wait as our situation warranted urgent care. They diagnosed my husband immediately and took the appropriate action. We downloaded the patient portal and received results in real time. The entire staff was so friendly. As expected rooms were sparce so it took a very long time to get into a room upstairs once we knew he was going to be admitted. Every single specialist who came in to test my husband was amazing. Every staff member was amazing. They allowed me to stay with him which was so nice as I was able to provide information. I love Pomerado Hospital.

All staff was friendly and efficient for the most part. I am just more bothered by the things I saw around the hospital. Clearly the high medical price we all pay does not go back to hospital's facilities or cleaning staff. This ER also lacks clean linens and privacy shades that are not soiled with stains or fresh feces. I saw what looked like remnants of bloody finger prints and streaks that tried to pry open the Maternity ward elevator. This is not only creepy but confirms you may hold people against their will in the Maternity ward. This hospital very much gives you the "I am in prison" vibes with all the run down and unclean facilities. I see this facility being comparable with third world countries in about 5 years if there is no funding put back into this hospital. -Sincerely a former UCSD Tricare patient

Horrible service Dr. Nadiya Ginzburg she was extremely racist the way she was talking to me was just so unacceptable and to make this even worse she discharged me to have to go to another hospital for care. I will never come here again I am extremely terrified to go to the hospital and to not be taken series when I'm in pain. The way I was put out of this hospital and the pain that I was in I wish that I'm no one.

Presenting to the ER in severe pain at 2 in the morning only to be sent home 4 hours later and being told to follow up with primary care after some minor tests and a minute-long talk with a doctor would be enough to warrant a 1 star review in and of itself. However that was just the start of the nightmare to follow. This initial debacle was followed up with a bill for my insurance company of over 10000 dollars of which I was on the hook for over a 1/3. Had I spent 4 months in a bed in the place I would have thought it excessive never mind 4 hours on a chair. Hours of calls and appeal requests to the insurance company and Palomar were just as big a waste of time as the ER visit. It is beyond ironic that this amount of stress and anxiety was caused by a company with healthcare in its name. These people are nothing but fraudsters preying on the most vulnerable. The only thing more worrying than these gangsters being allowed to operate is the lack of oversight at a federal or state level. There was literally nobody I could find to raise this with. Your only option is to avoid the place. For me personally if I am literally dying on the road outside I will crawl in to the field beside the place to die as opposed to stepping inside the place again. Although I am sure they would still try their best to find a way to charge me.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!!!!: PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU'RE PREGNANT! Unfortunately I ended up having a miscarriage. This was confirmed only a few days after my visit at Pomerado ER. I was still not feeling well, and still had a FEVER! I refused to go back and found myself at Sharp. Sharp was AMAZING. They checked everything and anything they possibly could. EKG, Ultrasounds, Blood work (including all my hormone levels, and typical levels) and took my vitals multiple times. The ultrasound/and/ transvaginal ultrasound I had that took nearly 2 hours at Pomerado, took 15 minutes at Sharp. BOTH OF THEM TOGETHER! I was so violated at Pomerado, felt it even more after going to Sharp and being treated like a human! What Pomerado didn't do, was care about the fact that I had a fever and was pregnant. Sharp found out that I actually had BV! Which was likely the cause of my miscarriage. Had Pomerado knew what they were doing and tested me for bacteria, I could have gotten on non-threatening antibiotics that would have fought the infection and I very likely would still be having a viable pregnancy. I am still so disgusted by the treatment, horrible bedside manner and professionalism conducted there. Please don't go here. Make the longer drive. The extra 25-30 minutes could save your childs life as well as prevent you long lasting trauma. They don't care about you. Period. At least in the ER department. I don't know how else to say this. I have been here multiple times. Every single time you get tossed around being told different things just to meet a doctor after 4-5 hours who is completely dismissive of you and doesn't seem to really look at your chart or communicate with their staff. I have been someone who has seen people in the ER be rude to staff and judge. Well, now I'm that rude person and I understand. I am astonished as hell by the lack of compassion these people upfront and the doctors have. I have tried giving them the benefit of the doubt way too many times. Tonight, I came in unsure if I lost my baby or if there was even a baby to lose. One of the hardest things we as women can possibly go through. I was tossed around for hours and went through an ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound (this took over an hr and a half all together) just for the doctor to pull me aside to tell me he couldn't tell me anything but didn't know I had JUST had an ultrasound done. That is NOT okay. Where is the communication? Where is the compassion? I'm sure they'll respond how greatful they are to get feedback, that's great and all, but when you do nothing about it, it doesn't matter. Be better.

I came in tonight with my husband to be dismissed and told that further testing wasn’t done in the ER, despite knowing the basic tests they were running would not give us answers. He was told he has mono with no tests or prescriptions, and was basically told to sit around while they brainstorm. And on top of it there was an older gentleman who was sitting with me. He had clear developmental disorder/s. He began to fall asleep and almost fell over on himself. When I asked if there was something safer or more suitable for him to sit of lay in I was told, “he’s here all the time and he’s fine.” He clearly had no interest in being kind to this patient out of annoyance, despite knowing how sick he was. I really don’t understand what his hospital attendance has to do with him falling over. And it is none of my business how often he is in here. The gentleman was eventually offered blankets by a registration nurse who came to assist my husband. She was the only staff member showing compassion for this man. I was dismissed multiple times, and everyone’s care seemed to be treated like it was a waste of the staffs time. I understand how hard our medical professionals work and the stressors they are put through on a daily basis. I’m sure everyone was exhausted. That’s not an excuse to lack compassion and uphold a certain standard of care. None of the staff looked happy or like they wanted to be there doing their jobs. Do better at providing your staff with what they needs so that they can do their jobs. Overall this visit was unacceptable.

Had to take my child here while visiting family in California. Since then, I have received three separate bills which is normal in hospital billing. I have had to add the insurance information on to all three bills after they took my insurance information which is terrible. The only reason for the three stars is because everyone at the facility was very nice. The billing needs a ton of work though. Update. I was actually sent to collections by one of their third party billers because they did not honor the EOB sent by my insurance. Not only do they not pay attention to the insurance provided, they do not follow the law either.

I’m visiting from Oregon and I got an unpleasant sinus infection (reg thing for me). I went to the Urgent Care in Poway and the staff were so wonderful. I’m used to hospitals being high stress, but the staff here were relaxed, hardly any wait, and they listened to my concerns. Michelle Mata NP was absolutely AMAZING! So kind and personable. Thank you again Palomar Health staff! 😊

In January I hand-delivered request for medical records to be sent to my doctor at Scripps and they’re still not there I called and they don’t have a request well clearly the person that I gave it to used it for something, suspected there be a problem getting there from department to department when I called they were very hostile and rude and I guess now I’ll have to actually go there from Imperial Beach!! One of the many reasons why I left there.

Have been here for nearly 7 hours. Finished the last rounds of testing 4 hours ago and have been waiting to be reviewed by a physician. Asked the front desk nurse how much longer I would have to wait to find out the Physicians prognosis and the nurse in the front said she couldn’t give a time. She said the doctor is rarely on the computer and only visits patients which is clearly false because the Doctor has to record and log everything on the computer system on the patients files. If you’re ok with waiting crazy extended amounts of time to hear the doctor tell you 5 minutes worth of information, this hospital is the place for you.

I would give zero stars if possible - for the emergency room. From staff to nurses to Drs, etc. - no one understands that physical illness is also tied to mental illness. I have a documented history of physical and mental illnesses and I experienced additional trauma because of the lack of humanity at this ER. The emergency room is a very last resort for me and this place will definitely not be on the list anymore. Urgent symptoms are not prioritized and you are treated like a junkie when you are in pain and in need of medical attention. If you can't do the job, please find another job that will make you happier and please stop traumatizing your patients who are already in pain and suffering. We are all human beings that are also struggling and we are not just another number waiting to die. I should not have to beg and plead and then be ridiculed by medical professionals that are supposed to help me - not hurt me further. I will seek legal action and I will warn people not to go to Palomar Medical Center Poway ER. Go to Sharp Memorial ER instead and don't stop advocating for your health and for your sanity. I will add there were a couple of staff/nurses/Drs at Palomar Medical Center Poway ER that did show some compassion but unfortunately the majority of them did not and it only increased my pain and suffering. My suffering had increased so much that after 3 separate/consecutive visits to Palomar Medical Center Poway ER (I was really hoping that the experience would be different/get better) I finally decided to try my luck at a different ER and I went to Sharp Memorial ER (which is unfortunately further for me) I was just hoping I could get some human compassion and finally Sharp Memorial ER was able to show me compassion and help me feel better.

Disgraceful practices. Don’t go here. They will be sure to charge you for everything and anything, regardless of the quality of service - after a 5 hour wait in the ER (only vitals taken) I left on my own accord WITHOUT being seen and they charged me $1,000. Literally go anywhere else

Came in checked in and they told me that there is 2 hour wait which is fine but after 3.5 hours went to see what’s going on and no one even try to listen to me. I was in pain came in to emergency to get checked right away. What type of pathetic heath system is this. People come here to get better not getting punished and disrespected. I highly recommends not to chose Palomar health system or any kind of services.

Update should have been done. If you need surgery on an appendage, do not go here. The hospital is instructed to amputate. I had to fight with the on call doctor, the disease infectious doctor, a couple of nurses, to keep my foot attached to my body, while I waited for my surgeon from my insurance group to show up. And when he did, he performed the surgery, and 5 yrs later, I still have my foot. Palomar Medical Center should be shut down. This was not my only problem visit I had. Run, run very far and fast from this death trap.

This experience is based of their labor and delivery (2022) that currently is not there anymore. I recently delivered my second child at the sister location in Escondido and I can honestly say that Poway’s experience for labor and delivery went above and beyond. The nurses had such great bedside manner. They were always attentive and asked often how they could make you feel more comfortable. When the cafeteria was closed and I was hungry they’d give me two or three simple deli sandwiches, it was such a nice gesture. The traveling nurses there had a slightly different manner but the core nurses there were phenomenal. I really miss that department and wish they were open for my second child, as Escondido was horrible in comparison. Please bring this department back for those in the future. Truly spectacular team/group of health care workers. Genuine, heartfelt and caring.

My mom was recently admitted to hospital for 3 days. The nurses were so nice. Thanks to them I was happily able to leave the hospital knowing she’d be well taken care of. Some nurses can be very rude but that was not a problem here. The nurse Abigail went above and beyond!

Dr. Mo is great. Nurse Arlen is too. Other than that, not so much. Communication to patients stinks. ER staffntreat patients like zoo animals and call them things like "dog bite." (because THAT'S professional, right?) The nurse (non-ER) whose name I dont recall who told me 2xs that it was "Great!" that my dog had to be euthanized needs to work on her brain-to-mouth filter. No, lady. It's not great that I had to have a member of my family killed. Geez. ER left a misplaced IV in my arm for 8+ hours and nobody noticed my arm swelling up like a tick until I was admitted and asked about the increasingly tight wristband (my arm had swolleen to 2x its normal size due to the improperly placed IV). They spent the next 2 days pulling various CYA moves and some admin person keeps contacting my emergency contact to make medical decisions on my behalf WITHOUT PERMISSION OR AUTHORITY TO DO SO, once while I was IN the hospital and again, now that Im home; they've NEVER contacted me directly even though at NO TIME was I unable to make decisions on MY OWN BEHALF which is concerning at best. Hard pass. Will not be returning in future.

Not impressed, double charged my insurance, $410 charge for a covid test. Been out of work for 3 weeks with a health issue that’s basically rendered me unable to work because of the fatigue and pain. To top it off they still don’t know what’s going on. Go somewhere else and save your time and money.

On March 9, 2022 I underwent hip replacement surgery here. The surgery was performed by Dr. Brad Cohen and his surgical team inside Pomerado Hospital. I selected Dr. Cohen for this invasive but now routine surgery after carefully reading his many (50+) patient reviews. He had more reviews posted online than any San Diego area physician I could find. They were OUTSTANDING! Nearly every single patient gave him a 5-star rating. No other orthopedic surgeon had such excellent patient feedback. That convinced me to use Cohen - and I was not disappointed! Also, the anesthesia went very well. I was not nauseous or even groggy immediately after surgery. In fact, I felt great. My impression of Pomerado Hospital was not good however. Three RNs processed and prepared me for surgery. Theirs was a routine task - something they do over and over again. Two of the 3 nurses seemed substandard. I’ve had several surgeries and lots of medical services. In my opinion the two RNs I rated substandard would never have been hired or kept on staff at UCSD Hospitals. The staff inside the surgical unit itself was far and away superior in every regard. As I was about to be released, a young RN with all the good sense and maturity of an average 10th grader was actually trying to convince me to spend a night in the hospital because her department had not completed its review of my post surgery home care on time. I practically had to push my way out of there. She called in her supervisor who in turn called in someone else and made a big fuss. My medical transport was due to arrive to take me home when all the fuss took place. Pomerado Hospital needs to clean house of their marginal RNs and upgrade with better qualified smarter ones with better judgement and people skills. Also, entering the hospital, I couldn’t help but notice some screened off rooms on my left filled with clutter and unused furniture. It was sloppy. Fortunately, my surgeon sends most of his orthopedic patients home a few hours after their surgeries. I’m glad I was one of them!

My experience here was good. The staff was friendly and efficient, even as workload increased. Of course you should budget several hours, minimum, for an ER visit, so don't be surprised if there's a lengthy wait before or during treatment. But I have zero complaints about my experience here, it was pleasant.

WHAT IS UP WITH THIS ER??? No patient privacy. Doing patient blood draws in the hallways. Sitting you in front of the Nurse's station to discuss their test findings?? Not putting you in a private ER room while being tested. This is outrageous!! One star is too many!!

  • 1/5 Chelsea C. 9 months ago on Google
Went here for flu like symptoms. The nurse and the front desk were nice. Waited about 2 hours to be seen and when they called me back i was just sitting in the hallway in front of the nurses station when there were open rooms available. I don’t even think the doctor read the nurses notes and kept asking if i was nauseous every 5 min and which i wasn’t. He did not do anything for me besides prescribing zofran for nausea that i did not have. Did a lousy exam while i sitting in a chair and discharged me. I’m a medical student soon to graduate and it saddens me that there are healthcare providers that don’t listen to their patients. I ended up having covid, tested myself, and was unable to move due to the body aches and chills that night. As i person of color I’m use to being brushed off but this was just awful.

If I could give it less than one start I would. My husband was sent home after waiting 12 hrs for an MRI with stroke symptoms, and sent home after 18 hrs, with NO SIGN OF STROKE. He is currently admitted at Sharp Memorial, after a REAL DOCTOR gave him an MRI and saw OBVIOUS SIGNS OF STROKE!!!! They DID NOT follow stroke protocol. And they never sent his images to his neurologist even after SEVERAL requests. We literally received ZERO CARE. DO NOT GO HERE.

In regards to their ER: My first visit was lengthy as it required more tests and there was chaos in staffing, so things weren’t as organized as I hoped, but the staff was kind and did what they could to help me. My visit was in the 5-630AM range today and I was impatient and uncomfortable as most are in the ER, but I was greeted by an extremely kind security gentleman. I noticed him help another patient, who was a woman, stay safe inside as he helped to flag down her Uber in the dark, rainy morning. The triage nurse, Brent, was empathetic. Dr. L. Avila was very sweet. Overall, today’s visit was straight forward and did not take long (for an ER), but I was pleasantly surprised by those staff members who seemed to genuinely care.

Worst experience ever at a hospital ER went in with severe CA lower back pain at the same location I had surgery. The so called doctor came in with a attitude told me he could make it go away which I didn’t expect that what I expected was for them to give me some meds to help it go away faster & take some x-rays to make sure I didn’t re-injure my lower back. He gave me 2 pills while there & sent me home with no meds & no x-rays

8 years ago today, my life was saved by some neighbor strangers, firemen, emergency room team, and a skilled surgeon. The treatment that I received at this hospital was extraordinary. The nurses were incredible! Thank you, everyone!

My story is similar to many here, so if you're a patient or a potential patient - here me out : avoid going to their ER department, unless your guts are telling you that you are going to die and you're a few minutes away from this facility. Do not go there and just go to a different ER facility (even if that means driving further away with severe pain). I learnt this lesson myself, I was in severe pain (10/10), checked in a Thursday at about 9:30pm and received treatment Friday at 3:01am, and released from the hospital at around 6:30am. During my 6hrs of waiting in the lobby, I told - respectfully - to the administrative person, that my pain wasn't manageable, I couldn't find any comfort seating or standing up, and, I understood they're might be busy but 6hrs is a long time to be in intense pain. The take away : I made a huge mistake, chose this ER because it was "close" to home. The next time I am or my family is need of important care, I will drive myself, or drive my family to a different ER facility even with severe pain - I know from experience, it will be worth it : a few more minutes of agony in the car, is a lot better than 6+hrs of agony in the lobby of an ER that clearly has issues to manage patients' volume (honestly - it wasn't that busy too ! you can trust me on that, I was in the lobby for 6hrs, so you have time to see patients coming in and out...)
