Great little museum in powell,WY. Lots of interesting antiques and a nice rock collection of artifacts, fossils and minerals. Unfortunately I have given this three stars because of a woman that helped us when we came in. She asked us where we were from and when we told her she got angry stating she does not and will not come to our town. My wife was rattled and walked out, I quickly made my way through the museum. I would recommend the history here but I would caution the staff.

Beautiful well laid out museum. Loved the original homesteader cabins. We were staying in Cody and had driven to Powell and saw the advert for the museum went back to Powell to tour. What a nice town too

The Homesteader Museum highlights an exciting time in American history. Powell Wyoming was a part of the Shoshone Project which was a federal Reclamation Project in 1904 to bring irrigation to the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming and expand productive farmland westward. The people who settled here are rugged, hardworking Homesteaders. Powell continues to have a strong agricultural foundation with a forward-looking sensibility. The Museum does a wonderful job with local programs and national exhibits. The Director/ Curator Brandi Wright and her staff are very knowledgeable and really create a unique museum experience. History buffs love the pioneer and homesteading stories and the Beaver Homestead House at the museum. Engineers appreciate the scope of work it took to build the irrigation system. Families bring their kids to enjoy the Red train caboose and great exhibits. Locals and visitors get to enjoy great events like Homesteader Days the 2nd Saturday in September every year.

It is an interesting place. We all enjoyed going through it. No cost, accepting donations though. I recommend it to anyone that likes learning about the past!

Seriously one of the best early/mid-century museum collections we’ve seen in all of our travels (on par with Pioneer Village in Minden Neb.). Definitely worth a stop, but make sure to allow for a few hours of browsing. A great collection and the introductory history lesson of the area as we entered was phenomenal!

A phenomenal experience n a small mountain town. The staff are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. The museum is free to attend, donations are welcomed. We took our time and were still able to see everything in under 90 minutes, perfect for our plans. Cannot recommend enough, if you're in the neighborhood, check this place out.

Staff is wonderful and the director even recommended a book to me. I enjoyed the multitudes of exhibits. There is something for everyone, here.
