This tower was unusual as compared to the buildings around it. This looks like more older and didn't had paint, which is understandable as the building is has proper stone finishing outside. I was roaming the city and found many people in sport wear. Then I followed them and came to know that the day was Czech Run, which is an event of Czech marathon. I saw many international players participating in that marathon. I was there when the race was finished. Some runners from Africa were on the top lists who finished the race. There were many local artists who were singing. I felt a sense of happiness in all the people around. The race finished at this tower. The tower was originally built as one of the main entrances of the Old city. later the tower was used to store the gun powder and got its name as The Powder Tower. I had some photographs which I am sharing with you. I don't know ho it looks from inside but from outside it looks stunning. Beautiful architecture.

Such an underrated spot! The ticket booth is located on the sidewalk on the north side of the tower. They also offer tickets bundled for other historical attractions around town. Cash and card is accepted. There are two floor of the tower and then the roof terrace and attic. Your ticket will be checked in the first floor. The staircase leading up is barely wide enough for people to pass so be careful. There are exhibits on each floor, but you're probably going up for the view at the top. Go at sunset for the best views! Tripods aren't allowed, but you're able to rest a camera on the ledges at each window. It's probably the best view in the city.

Found this randomly and decided to go up. You can buy tickets at the ticket booth across from the front entrance outside, or by card. At the top of the entry stairs. It was a really great view and we had it all to ourselves during nighttime hours. Really cool, with the wooden structure and the wind blowing, making everything creak and sound somewhat spooky.

An old tower with beautiful architecture (there is another tower with similar architecture in Prague, the Old Town Bridge Tower). The gate at its base was one of the entry points to the medieval city. The facade is very beautifully decorated. The ascent to the observation platform is quite difficult, on some narrow spiral stairs. But the view makes it worth the effort. The entrance ticket can be paid with the card. When you climb to the observation deck, at an intermediate level, is a small exhibition that gives you details about the history of the tower. The stone from which it is built has acquired an almost black color over the time, giving the impression that the tower is smoked by a fire.

From this place in the old city you can usually walk around Prague. Better be free and visit every small streets cause many interesting you can watch. It's looks like small district but you need to have a lot of time to walk here, cause many exciting places, shops, tavernas, restaurants. So enjoy slowly, without fast. It's very historical and every building has own stories

If you’re not very physically fit, parts of this tower might be one of the harder ones to climb in Prague. But the view at the top is worth it, the location is a good one for views over Prague and the architecture of the walkway around the top is unusual for the city. It adds an interesting element the other towers in the city don’t have.

This is one of the 13 gates of the city. It is well know as most visitors walk through this gate towards the old town. You can climb the 186 steps inside the tower to reach the viewing platform at 44m, for views over the Old Town.

Stunning gothic tower that was used as the entrance gate to the royal palace. Also it was used as a defense tower during the battle of Prague called the Powder Tower during those times. There is a side door that you can enter and take the stairs to the lookout at the top of the tower for a fee of course. There were originally 13 of these towers but not many have survive unfortunately.

Amazing view from the top! There are metal plaques that help you recognise all the major buildings of the city. It's so fun to pinpoint them. Great experience. The stairs are narrow so you have to be careful when it's crowded.

It's not very crowded but offers nice panoramic view on the city. Staircase is very narrow which makes it even more fun to climb. Tickets are needed but are relatively cheap.

Beautiful views! Nice landings in between stairs to get a little break with some nice pieces to look at. The stairs are very steep so be careful. I wish they had better signage/or more employees as when I went people went into wrong stairwells going up/down leading to panic as people tried to get around one another in the steep narrow stairwells - one person nearly fell! So be careful - but the views are worth it!

Right next to the town hall building. Located in the centre of Prague and you cannot miss this spot. It is standing there and has been witnessing so much change of this fantastic city. It looked extremely beautiful in snow!

This is one of the senior landmark in Prague, Czechia. it’s located in old town Prague, you will walk pass by it whenever you are in the old town or the new town area. It’s unique color, makes it very recognizable from far away . This is also how it received its name which was combined with its original purpose. It is open to the public to go up , but since we did not go up, so we cannot really share any inside pictures or videos here.

I recommend visiting this place. It was less crowded than the Astronomical Clock Tower. Although there wasn't much to see, I think it's a nice spot if the weather is good.

This was one of the first towers we visited during our stay in Prague. There's a very steep set of stairs to the first floor and most of the history of the tower is here too, along with a knowledgeable guide. The view isn't the best in the city since it is surrounded by quite tall buildings but it's a good place to visit with some interesting history.

We passed this giant gate a couple of time while walking around Prague. It is quite close to the Old Town area and right beside the theatre. It was quite nice to walk beside the tower just to see the details on it. It looks quite nice both during the day and at night. It is one of the many towers that you could pass while walking around the city.

The structure is in line with the gothic appearance of Prague. You get an option to pass through it as well. It separates the Old Prague town from the new one. You an clearly observe the difference in architecture between the two separated parts

Great views! The walk up the stairs is a bit precarious, being narrow and steep. Note: Enter at base, climb to first level to buy tickets. Climb to next level to present your ticket. Then climb to the top. People climb up as others climb down. Super tight. The views are worth the climb. 100CR per person.

This monumental entrance by which the coronation processions of Czech kings entered the Old Town is one of the most significant monuments of Late Gothic Prague. Completed in 1475, the Powder Tower, which formerly served as a gunpowder store, is still the starting point for the Coronation or Royal Route to Prague Castle. The viewing gallery is located at a height of 44 m.

I walked under this tower several times and it was a landmark I used to get around. Then I found out you can go to the top. Highly recommended as you get a 360° view of Prague. It is 150 Kč or roughly $7. Well worth it. Amazing views with plaques that tell you what you are looking at.

Great place to visit at the center of the Prague city. A bit of a climb, but the city scapes are worth it. The nearby square and malls are excellent too. Although, other than views, ther are no exhibitions when I visited, and was pretty empty inside.

12/05/2023: One of the most striking monuments of late Gothic Prague from 1475 is the monumental entrance to the Old Town, through which the coronation processions of the Czech kings entered the city, and even today it is the entrance to the Royal Road leading to Prague Castle. The 65-meter-high building is unique in its stone sculpture decoration, depicting kings, Czech patrons and saints. From the tower's balcony, which is at a height of 44 meters, an exceptional view of the centre of Prague is offered. Early bird special in the first hour of opening and is 50% off the ticket price. The Powder Tower, one of the most distinctive monuments of late Gothic Prague, was built on the site of the dilapidated original Horská Gate, called Odraná, dating from the 1st half of the 13th century. Through the Powder Tower, one of the main roads coming from Eastern Bohemia, especially from Kutná Hora, entered the city. The dust gate is 65 meters high , the observation deck is 44 meters high, the spiral staircase has 186 stone steps.

It is otherwise known as the Powder Tower or Powder Gate and seperates the Old Town from the New Town. It is walking distance from the Old Town Square and there are lots to see around this part of Prague. The Tower itself was used to store Gunpowder hence the name of Powder Tower. It is a Gothic Tower and well worth seeing as part of Prague.

Really fancy and beautiful Cafe, where should i start.... The service is amazingly fast and the food is so delicious, the cake was so good, there is a life Piano music that makes the atmosphere super cozy, there is a Robot that drves around and collect the dirty dishes, the interior is like a barok stile nice and warm, and the prices are not so expensive. It is highly recommended

The people here are very friendly and one of the highlights from the views you get here. The sky line and looking at old town and jew town were amazing. The climb was hard but well worth it. The people working here helped me with all the questions i had. Furthermore, they gave me extra history on the tower. I think if you have the energy, make your way to the tower. It only cost 5 bucks to climb to the top and there is a rope to help.

Terrific gothic-style city entrance gate! It separates the Old town from the newer parts of Prague! It was built for celebrations and ceremonies, but eventually ended up as storage place for arms and ammunition, hence it's name - the Powder Tower!

Fantastic value for money at 100kc each but easily overlooked. Great 360' views from the top. We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves to take loads of panoramic photos. Be aware, the steps are not for the feint hearted, very steep and narrow.

The Powder Tower is one of the original 13 city gates in Old Town and is so named because it stored gunpowder in the 17th century. The tower could really do with a clean. However, it’s a very impressive and monumental sized gate, and for that it’s worth visiting especially as it’s only a short walk from the Old Town or to the Republic Square, with many fine buildings around.

(Translated by Google) The Powder Gate is one of the most important monuments of medieval Prague. It was here that the Prague royal road began and an important road from Kutná Hora led here, where silver was mined to the royal treasury. The late Gothic city gate was built on the site of an older gate tower, related to the fortifications of the Old Town of Prague from the reign of Wenceslas II. The older tower building referred to its already name - the Mountain Gate - to the already mentioned road. After the Old Town walls, which included the Mountain Gate, lost their significance with the founding of the New Town and ceased to be maintained, the tower was abandoned so much that it became known as the "Odraná". The construction of the current building was probably related to the royal residence, which has stood in the immediate vicinity of the gate on the site of today's Municipal House since the 1970s.

There is great view from the top of of the tower. There are couple of hundreds of steps but it is totally worth to effort. But, if you do not have so much time in Prague, you can skip there. View from the prague castle and from the tower of the church there are much better. That are is located in higher altitude.

  • 5/5 Kyle B. 1 year ago on Google
As a first time visited to Prague, the architecture here is amazing and beautiful. This neo gothic style and shape, it’s lovely and unlike anything else. I had to stop and take it all in. I will definitely be returning one day, this city is a real life picture.

  • 5/5 Raymond S. 1 year ago on Google
If there isnt anyone in the boot next to the tower for the tickets you can go upstairs regardless and buy your tickets on the first floor. Ascending all the stairs to read about the history of the tower and look over the city at the top is definitley worth the money. Do be careful on the way down that you dont go to quickly and get dizzy or run into other people for there is only 1 set of stairs.

  • 5/5 Smiley V. 11 months ago on Google
A beautiful bridge with views of Prague Castle in the distance if you approach from the direction of the Old Town. It was busy when we visited (mid morning) but not too busy and there was a fantastic live jazz band playing. Recommend trying to visit the bridge at a time when it is less busy as, when we passed by at another day around noon, it was absolutely packed with people. Well worth visiting though and beautiful at night when it is lit up.

It's a impressively big tower where you can even drive underneath by car. Unfortunately we were not able to get on top of it, but I'm quite sure you can. And the view from up there must be spectacular

Amazing views of the city and not too many stairs to the top. There are also 3 floors dedicated to explaining the history and displaying artwork related to the tower. There also weren’t many people when I was there compared to other towers like the old city hall.

The Powder Tower, or Prašná brána, stands as an iconic landmark that welcomes visitors to the historic heart of Prague. This magnificent tower serves as a gateway to the city's past, leaving a lasting impression with its striking architecture and historical significance. Approaching the Powder Tower, its imposing presence commands attention. The tower's Gothic design, adorned with intricate details and decorative elements, is a testament to the craftsmanship of the era. As one of the original city gates, the tower stands as a reminder of Prague's medieval fortifications and the rich history that unfolds within its walls.

Once it was the entrance to the city. There were 13 gates to enter in Prague..it was one of them. It is a Gothic tower in prague... It was also used for storing Gun powder... So it is also called as powder tower. It seperates the Old Prague from new Prague. It was constructed in 1475 AD.

This is a powder tower one of the original 13 city gates. It was constructed around 1475. You can get up on the tower but have to be careful because of the stairs being to too narrow.

Enjoy the lovely view on top of this tower. Contrary to many other places in Prague, this wasn't crowded at all. Not too much to see on the inside apart from the building itself and a few sculptures, however, the view over the city makes visiting this place definitely worthwhile.

Super. Nice view. Seeing the tower its a must have in Prague but going up it’s just a nice to have, great views indeed. Regarding tickets, I recommend buy it directly in the tower. There is not a big queque and it’s the way to pay just the fair price without the extra margin of tour operators.

This was my 2nd visit to Prague in 5 years. This is one of Mt most favorite and most beautiful historical cities. Every where, every nuke and corner, every street in old town, there is a story to learn and cherish. Amazing architectural marvels, the churches, castles, bridges, monuments, buildings, theaters... if you love the ancient architectural rennaissannce and sculptures, then this is one such city you can not miss to cover in your eastern Europe tour. You can spend a minimum of 2 to preferably 3 or a maximum of 4 days here to enjoy city tours in detail.

Such a beautiful place! I had no idea what to expect. Everywhere you look theres a great photo to be had. So much history it's mind blowing. Was only here a day and a half- saw all the highlights in a guided 6 hour walking tour. Worth the money! Included lunch and a boat tour. They carry an orange umbrella- si they are visible. George our guide was amazing.
