This was my first experience with a free walking tour, but I thought Ian was a great guide. He provided important historical context for understanding Prague and Czechia. The tour wasn't dry though, it was entertaining as well as informative. It isn't really free since you pay what you think the tour was worth at the end, but he accepted Euro, Crowns, and credit cards. We got a bathroom break about 1 hour 45 minutes in, though there wasn't much of a chance to sit down, we were on our feet the whole time. Ian also was happy to answer any questions about the city's history or give handy travel tips for getting around and how best to maximize your time.

Karel took us on a fantastic tour, he took care of everything! He gave us great information about all the sites and showed us beautiful locations Kutna Hora. We had lunch and a fantastic restaurant as well, with our meals ready for us when we arrived. All train transportation was arranged and made super simple. I highly recommend this tour!

We’ve had 2 tours in different days. First one was the city tour with Brandon. He was geniunely a fortune with many stories and principal historical aspects without making you start to be bored or distracted. The second tour, in the neighborhood of Prague Castle was with Brian. Brian had the same manner as Brandon, a nice and patient guide. He tell us the most important amd crucial moments in time which impacted the Castle and also some inside stories about Prague. I totally recommend to plan a tour with Sandemans in Prague :)

Sarah Paschke is an extraordinary guide and educator. She has an encyclopedic knowledge and told great stories that made the experience so impactful. As a teacher, she has a wonderful style that encourages questions. She has a genuine passion for what she does and compassion, given the subject matter.

JEREMY - one of the BEST GUIDES of free walking tour we’ve been with. It is beautiful to see someone so passionate about their job. Left us hooked with enlightening stories, deeply-knowledgeable and explained the city history in a funny way which makes it even more enjoyable. The tour with Jeremy should not be missed.

I had booked two tours with Sandemans in Prague and both times no one showed up dispite still being able to book and pay for tours in the site, no email to say it had been cancelled and no apology. Tour guides from other companies who operate around the meeting point said that people had been showing up with tickets for weeks and no one bothered to show up or tell them the tour was cancelled, extremely unprofessional. Do not use sandemans, there are other better tour companies who will provide this tour cheaper and will actually show up.

This was a great walking tour to give an overview and introduction to Prague. Our host Andrea was really informative, funny and a great storyteller, which makes all the difference. She took us through the old and new towns, explaining everything from the gruesome and fascinating medieval past of the city, up to present day. The tour was interesting, fun and well worth doing as a taster for what Prague has to offer. It was also not too long or tiring (with a rest stop in the middle).

Ian was an absolute charm of a guide! We had so much fun following him around Prague, getting to learn all the cool and rich history of this incredible city. With a group of 14 people he made sure to include everyone while telling stories and jokes throughout the tour. He was so good we continued to the castle tour that started an hour and a half after the walk tour was over. 10/10 would recommend!

Extremely informative!!! This tour is a must when coming to Prague. The city is so beautiful at face value, but to really appreciate it, it’s important to know some of the history and meaning behind some of the attractions, for example the astronomical clock is pretty to look at, but at the same time quite underwhelming until you learn more about it and are told how to use and read it. Our tour guide ‘Lyle’ was extremely well practiced with his tours and was able to deliver his tour in a fun and interactive way. He was extremely considerate, keeping us out of the sun and in the shade as much as possible and explaining everything in a detailed but easily understood way. I would highly recommend this tour on your first day in Prague. It will completely transform your understanding of the city and improve your overall trip indefinitely! Thank you Sandemans! <3

The tour is a must do when in prague. Karl was very knowledgeable about the history and made the walking tour fun. He was engaging, funny and made the experience collaborative. My tip is that this should be the first thing you do when you get to Prague as it provides you with all the important places to visit. Thank you Karl!

I took the free Prague City Tour yesterday with Karel as our guide. He was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, funny, and Prague passionate. I liked it so much that I signed up for the afternoon Prague Castle Tour when he told us he was going to guide it. The Castle Tour was equally outstanding, though perhaps a little wetter (due to rain....). He still made the experience memorable. I now feel a little more like a Prague expert myself thanks to Karel!

This review is for the Kutna Hora day trip from Prague. Had a fun-filled and educational day with Nicolo. His rigorous historical knowledge and wry sense of humor were unmatched. We toured on a sunny day in February and had a small group of only nine people. Combined with the Spanish group, we needed only a small group van. All logistics were well run, and Nicolo made history fun. Definitely our favorite day out of our visit to the Czech Republic!

Scott is a good historian. And he gave us amazing practical suggestions for our city trip. He is friendly and jovial. Tip for improvement : some people are not history fans so, u can pack a smaller number of powerful facts to make an interesting and accurate story to hold the continued attention of the audience.

Pretty last minute decision to join the free walking tour of Prague... But it was well worth the 3 hour walk and a fantastic way to acquaint ourselves with the city!! Our guide, Karel, was everything you could hope for in a guide -- knowledgeable, entertaining, engaging, and personable. He covered a lot in 3 hours and was very open to questions and peppering in his own experience being a native-born Czech. My partner was initially skeptical of these free tours, but after the first few minutes of our guide kicking off the tour, he was sold! Fantastic experience and I'd definitely recommend doing this tour (it's free, just tip generously to your guide!) in Prague. I'd also be interested in other Sandeman tours elsewhere as all the reviews for the other guides seem to be overwhelmingly positive.

  • 1/5 Nahuel N. 3 years ago on Google
Most of the information we received from our guide was inaccurate. There were some relevant data but regarding the history and landmarks in the city were mostly wrong. (Like he said the statues in Charles Bridge represent heads on pikes). Although the guide was a guy with a lot of personality and tried to make the whole tour fun, the most important part was missing or inaccurate. I would not recommend to take the tour if you are looking for real historical data

Our tour guide, Ian, was awesome--extremely friendly, relaxed, and knowledgeable. We liked the free tour so much that we went on to take the Prague Castle tour the same afternoon-- then he arranged a tour of Kutná Hora for us and the other members of our group for the next day! That trip was also epic, and included not only the Church of Santa Barbara and the ossuary church, but also lunch at possibly the best restaurant in the Czech Republic. We learned a lot and had a great time!

Be careful before you book!!!!! Signed up, walked all the way there and they cancelled the English version WITHOUT emailing us any notice. I am updating this review since they did indeed credit me almost the full amount for not delivering. Advice to company to have allowed the english only group which you cancelled to allow us option to follow spanish group, Or at least give us a list of the beer places. I was solo and got no help. Wish it had turned out!

Of all Sandemanns tours I’ve been, Tomas del Cabo has been the best guide of alll. I joined a Saturday afternoon tour with Brian as our guide. I have been to Prague many times but this was my first time doing a tour and I highly recommend it. I learnt a lot of interesting facts and history about the city. The tour is informative and fun, well organised and never boring. Amazing tour! Me and my partner had the free tour (3 hour) and it was really worth it ! Our guide (Karel Wichterle) was perfect. He was really passionate about his work, he told us really interesting stories about the city, helped us locate really good food, sightseeing and beer spots. We had Sarah as a tour guide and she was AWESOME. Honestly, I usually zone out while tour guides are talking and with Sarah, it didn't happen once. If it's your first time in the city, make this the first thing you do. It's "free" as in pay whatever you want, with no pressure (for our tour about 200 crowns was the norm, which is well worth it anyway). Our tour guide Brandon from Santa Barbara was the best. He took us to a random restaurant during the tour which had the best beer from my whole trip. The food at the restaurant was not the best though. Brandon was very informed and gave me a great way to start my exploration of the city. He also had amazing recommendations (he had a sheet you can take a picture of as well as some flyers), some silly jokes, and lots of cool history tidbits. I met lots of cool people on the tour and met up with them after for beers.

I have had already several tours with Sandemans guides in Prague. Every time the guides were on time, their English was brilliant, they were always enthusiastic about presenting the visitors curious/funny facts about the city. They were really ambitious about keeping everyone interested. Many tours are advertised as free tours, but of course the guide is happy about a payment in the end if you liked it - so give them a fair price 😊

We enjoyed our tour with Karel. It was an overall town tour. He was very informative about Prague’s history and is a very good story-teller. He answered all the questions that were asked by other participants. His hold over the English language is even better than that of native speakers! 🙌🏼 If you are in Prague for just a couple of days and on a budget this should be your go-to tour. The tour is absolutely free and in the end if you wish to you can leave a tip. Make sure you look for the right red umbrella while meeting your tour guide because there are a lot of other red umbrellas which are for hop on-hop off tours.

Parvel's tour was a delight to attend . He carefully selected stopping points to keep us in the shade. His descriptions of the history and political machinations over the centuries was laced with delightful humour and wit. Practically no-one from the captivated audience left the 3hr tour and we farewelled Pavel with a healthy round of applause (almost a standing ovation) and plenty of cash. Would thoroughly recommend.

Really great tour!! The guide knew exactly what he was talking about and was keen to answer any questions. There was a good mix of ages on the tour and it’s a good way to meet new people. The guide spoke clearly and loud enough for our group of 30 to hear. The pace of the walk was good as well, so don’t worry if you’re a slow walker. Well worth the big tip 👍🏼

Pablo from Spain has been our guide and he was awesome. Not only kind and patient, but knows a lot of both ancient and modern history, politically and artistically speaking. He explained history using 21st century metaphors which made the storytelling funny and interesting. Going through the old town square, fully detailing the astronomical clock, we also visited the Jewish neighborhood and some modern buildings. I totally recommend the paid visit to the castle.

Brandon was funny, informative and conscientious. I recommend him and Sandemans Free Walking Tours in general. Prague is a city with much history and beauty. Pavel was an incredible guide who was knowledgeable and passionate about his city and country. Our tour was scheduled for 10am, and luckily we got there a few minutes early because Pavel told us we were just in time to go watch the Astronomical clock in action. We rejoined the group afterwards where Pavel took us all around Old Town and New Town while telling us about the history of Prague and the Czech Republic. The tour was really enjoyable and well-paced. We got to see a lot of interesting buildings and learn about the history associated with them, as well as learn about a few famous people and the impact they had on this country. I learned a lot throughout this tour and it is an absolute must for everyone visiting!

This was our first tour with SANDEMANs and definitely not our last! Our guide Lyle was funny and charming and taught us a lot about the history and culture of this city. We had a very nice tour of the Old and “New” Towns and the Jewish Quarter. This was a great primer to Budapest. In additions to the sights, Brandon gave us tips for other spots not on the tour, including a printed guide that he shared. The photo is from the Jewish Quarter where the history was recounted. Prague is beautiful, but the cautionary tale of the Jewish Quarter is one everyone should reflect on. Shout out to Brandon Duke for the marvelous tour.

PAVEL was the best tour guide. He is a local, and lived through the communist regime so he really knows what he is talking about. Very interesting stories and historical facts. Thoroughly recommend, very enjoyable.

The guided tour of the castle was very informative and pleasant. The guide, Karel, is a fun guy and also knows his information very well. He likes interacting with the audience, so he uses Trivia and it actually works, people are more involved.
