Having completed around 20 escape rooms, I telephoned in advance to ask for their opinion on which would be the most suitable room, as suggested on the website. Following a very short discussion with a member of staff, I booked Alcatraz on their recommendation. They suggested this was the only room that would be suited to us. We came here with high hopes having read some great reviews and after looking at the website we were impressed by the themes of the rooms. Sadly, these high hopes faded fairly quickly into our experience (not least thanks to the stale, white tinged Double Decker that got stuck in the vending machine - we should have left then!). My partner gets claustrophobic so asked for a slight amendment to the room (leaving a door unlocked) and we were told this was totally fine and to just shout through to a member of staff when we had the code for the unlocked door so they could let us know if it was correct or not and allow us to move on to the next stage. 15 minutes after waiting for someone to respond to us, my partner left the room to speak to a member of staff who then gave us a clue which was totally incorrect and led us down the wrong path entirely, wasting another 10 minutes of our time! We called through for another clue only to have a different staff member enter the room, tell us that her colleague was actually incorrect and say that she would add 5 minutes onto the clock for us to make up for the wasted time. We raced through the rest of the room in a very short time (which, had we not already found the code, would have been further helped by the fact that one of the locks wasn’t even connected to a bolt, meaning it simply slid open of its own accord) and soon found ourselves on the final challenge. The parts to complete this challenge were broken, the QR reader on the iPad was temperamental at best and the lack of writing implements meant this final challenge was virtually impossible. The time-up alert sounded (our extra 5 minutes had not been added on) and we waited a further 10 minutes for anyone to come and get us. When the staff member arrived, we asked him about the final puzzle. We had in fact worked out the correct answers and the only reason we hadn’t managed to complete it was down to the broken pieces! When we pointed this out, he simply said “oh, you should hold them on”…to expect 2 people to hold 5 separate wires (10 ends) together on various metal spikes is challenging at best and when we mentioned this he said “yes well this challenge is better for more people”…not once did anyone apologise for the broken puzzles, the poor technology or the wasted time thanks to incorrect advice/information. All in all what could have been a great idea was executed incredibly poorly; we shall not be visiting Escape Reality again. Don’t waste your money on this chain when there are so many better independent escape rooms around!

The host was welcoming and really enjoyed the game, we did seven, until we got to the last but 3 clues and all the paper had come loose on the puzzle (don't want to spoil it for other!) So no chance of getting the combination! For nearly 100 pound I expect the propes to be better quality. Oh and light in toilets didn't work! Maintenance required! Only gave two stars as guide was helpful. I will make a formal complaint on Monday.

Not going back, very frustrating. Years ago, we used to go to every escape room there, the staff was nice and friendly. This time, they were really unfriendly and nkt helpful. Some puzzles in the room were not working, and even the staff tried and took a while to make them work. When we asked for extra time, they plainly refused to add time for us to compensate for the time lost, saying we had lost just seconds. After finishing, they just got us out of there as quick as possible saying they were closing, even though it was 7:30pm and we knew they had times for 8pm. We were all very upset with the lack of people skiils and we are not willing to go back, even though they have new rooms. Don't recommend.

Really good venue, nice variety of rooms available. Staff are really nice and friendly and super helpful. Without spoiling the rooms. You get an hour to escape and 5 clues available if you get really stuck and dont have a scooby doo about what to do next. When that happens one of the amazing staff will come in and help you out a little bit. Super friendly and would 100% recomend taking part. The room we was in had slight damage and one door taped off as it got broken earlier in the day which as dissapointing as it is. Its very easy parts to get worn and torn when people are scouring the room inch by inch seeing if something opens or not. Looking forward to returning and trying out a different room

Very poor. Did the new pirates room today ( open for a couple of weeks now). Several critical steps not working, or missing, resulting in several further clues/ puzzles being unavailable. Staff knew parts were missing yet booked it out anyway. Very disappointing and frustrating. Should be good when it's all actually working.

went to excape reality for my husband birthday which was spoilt,we went into the last room only 30 minutes in to the game for the door to be left open by THEIR member of staff my husband walked out into reception area, which then the staff closed it no apologies. once in my friend was keying in codes then accidentally pulled something off the wall which we was charged £50 to fix and we paid, but once we said about our night being spoilt with the door left open before the damage happened which cost us £96 to play is terrible, they wasnt interested and quite rude but happily charges us for the damage. over all experience wasn't good and wouldn't recommend Preston excape room. spoilt our night and my husband birthday.save your money the name of the game is to excape but we didn't need to excape because the door was left open for us. won't be returning back

Had a wonderful time here last night. The fellow running it did a fantastic job - extremely friendly and really adds to the room with an engaging story telling exposition before you begin your escape. Really enjoyed the Pirate room! It looks amazing, and it's extremely immersive. I thoroughly recommend

Came as part of a big group with work for some team bonding and had a great time. The two members of staff were lovely. Explained how the rooms worked. 1 hour to escape. You can have 5 clues throughout to help. I played the Seven room and enjoyed it but a couple of puzzles were so randomly precise that we would never have got them without a clue. Another group had a couple of malfunctions which was disappointing for them but all in all it was a great experience and would recommend giving it a go!

Very poor for the money. Room wasn't set up properly and we were missing a map which was found outside the room by the staff. We were then only allowed "a few extra mins onto our time" although we searched for it for 15 mins plus. Puzzles were good in some rooms but in others didn't really follow logic and were very overcomplicated. I'd recommend visiting different escape rooms as they were better laid out and thought out than this.

Did the Pirate room with a friend. Challenging, but got out with about 2 minutes to spare. We arrived 20 minutes early, and got into the room about 10-15 minutes early. Very rewarding, would go again!

My husband and I joined my sister and brother-in-law and tried to crack the Seven themed escape room. Although, we didn’t manage to break free in the allocated time we came very close. From the very start our host Steve was very enthusiastic and set the scene for the challenge brilliantly. He helped you to embrace the task and we all became determined to solve the clues to unlock the rooms to complete the mission. It was great fun and it certainly brings out your competitive nature. We worked as a team and you become enthralled and involved in completing the puzzles. It really was a fun way to spend an hour that you want to continue especially if you run out of time. The challenges really get your brain cells working and you feel like real detectives. Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone. Looking forward to our next visit and successfully escaping. Thank you Steve for a great Easter bank holiday experience.

Think the owners should make it much clearer about the need to crawl and bend. Maybe not aimed at my age group. But they had no contingency if someone couldn’t do this. I’ve had two knee replacements. Really disappointed as I had been looking forward to it. No offer of a refund. More consideration needed. Really not necessary to have half a door is there ? Very bias against people with disabilities .

Been twice and both times there have been errors from staff in setting up the room. First time a key clue was forgotten in setup and today an item was so damaged you couldn’t see the numbers to key in the code (seven sins room at the end)… needs an upgrade with tech that works properly. Well thought out rooms and enthusiastic friendly staff, but badly executed unfortunately

We did the Alcatraz Escape Room. The room design was awesome and I loved it. What let us down was that one of the clues had all the numbers rubbed off so it took us about 10 minutes to solve the puzzle because there was absolutely no way we would have got it without the numbers. We had a woman staff member, I'm terrible with names, who was extremely informative and helped us out with it.

The two rooms I've played (abducted and Alcatraz) were just mediocre. The clues are either ridiculously easy or take forever, not due to being hard, just because you have to be incredibly prescice or because it's not reasonably possible to work out how to use a clue. The staff were nice though.

Lovely helpful staff let down by poor experience. One room out of 3 completely broken.£76 paid for 4 of us so asked for refund of a third as only had two thirds of clues, vouchers offered no good to us so got in touch with customer service. After 3 weeks they said we were not entitled to refund as we had completed 9 of the 11 clues, completely untrue. They seriously need to improve their customer relations as they are letting down their staff at site level.

Really good fun! Good bang for your buck with plenty of puzzles per experience! Our host was Steve who was a funny dude and helpful! Go with people you can actually stand and won't argue with - or don't - could be fun either way!

Tried the alcatraz escape room. It was my 1st ever experience of an escape room. Either the briefing at the beginning wasn't clear enough, or we were half asleep. Took us a while to understand how things were going to work. I was slightly disappointed that we didn't manage to escape.

I am not one to leave a negative review but this was a very disappointing experience to say the least. They were more concerned with telling us about them having to eat their dinner than assisting us with our room. The lady didn’t even bother to share a backstory on what the room was about. She asked me if I was nervous to which I replied ‘We’re just confused as we have no clue what this room is even about.’ She then proceeded to ask me if we wanted to know? Every other escape room we have been to haven’t needed to be asked, even the Escape Reality in Manchester. The room was poorly organised with no clues. The electricity was also switched off during our time in the room which meant that all of the doors and doors for clues opened by themselves, this really further ruined our experience. It was quite scary being in a dark room and not even having an apology or explanation for whatever happened. The staff were nice but I would advise to stay away, there are better places out there. The Escape Reality in Manchester is not a reflection of this one, the staff there are lovely and the whole experience is much better!

Considering how expensive escape rooms are, including this one, I think it's reasonable to expect a venue that is cleaner and better maintained than this. Had to sign a waiver in case of damages, which was new to us, despite having done many escape rooms over the years. We did Alcatraz, after asking specifically which room they recommend for a family group including a 13 yr old... yet the staff on the day told us we had booked their most difficult room! As other reviews mention, the group is split in two, and there is some crouching/crawling, so do NOT recommend if any of your group has a bad back, knees, etc. Staff seemed helpful and engaging, but were a little abrupt in escorting us out when we finished, no opportunity to use the toilet.

This was me and my sisters first experience with escape rooms and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Really well thought out and immersive, would definitely recommend it to anyone and the staff are top notch. We will definitely be returning.

Friendly staff. Slightly on the costly side. I found the rooms to be more difficult than other places I've been to in Manchester, Edinburgh & London.

A great place for lazer quest and has escape rooms. The kids loved it, family friendly and good staff who are more than happy to help. Recommended from me and mine.

We tried two rooms today (Abducted and The Revenants) and really enjoyed both of them. Ellie was the member of staff looking after us, she was amazing. She was super friendly and fun to be around. We’d definitely go back again

We dropped our daughter off for a birthday party. On seeing the toilets I was disgusted. I spoke to the manager about my concerns of poor hygiene. The thought of any child having to use these toilets really concerned me. I wouldnt use this facility for a birthday party if the toilets remain in such conditions.

  • 1/5 Claire L. 2 years ago on Google
Awful place. Attended a birthday party here and it was terrible. The staff didn't seem to know what was going on. The place was filthy with empty takeaway boxes spilling out of the bins. The floor looked like it hadn't been cleaned in long time. There was a smell of old greasy food as you walked in. The organisation was appalling the kids had to wait almost an hour before they even got to go in and play and then they only got 15 minutes to play lazer quest. The food was brought it from a takeaway and was cold and didn't look very appetising. I honestly have never been somewhere that is so disgusting. I Would never go back and would recommend that people went elsewhere for their parties to avoid disappointment.

Did the Abducted room today. We actually "failed" because to solve one puzzle we had to count how many fingers were in different coloured jars. The problem was there were TWO yellow jars so we would NEVER have solved this with the number of permutations facing us. So only 3 out of 5.
