AMAZING it really is such a stoic experience to visit a place with so much pain and death that it seems to vibrate from everything like an aura. I can't out into words how important it is to know this history.

Very nice historic area. Sure puts Petersburg's importance in the war into perspective. Signage and historical markers, informational, plaques, and a very nice trail down to the Dominator. The trail goes on beyond that, and then becomes gravel, running along the railroad track, and there is no more information to find beyond that. That one's mostly for exercise and enjoying the woods.

The directions were easy to get to Petersburg. The visitor center is at the eastern battlefield and there are displays there and then there are 30 miles of roads that take you to different battle sites. Going to the visitor center will help you to understand where the roads are and the roads connect various areas around Petersburg so it's possible to make visits on different times. The battlefield seem to be well developed and I enjoyed my time here

Good place to get the maps and information to tour the Petersburg battlefields. The museum is quick to look through and there is a short walk to one of the Batteries. The movie was broken but is available on YouTube - all the Ranger How to access it.

Enjoy the park a couple times a week. Generally I walk the trails but the park personnel are very friendly and intimately familiar with the history related to the park.

This was an amazing stop and we had the best docent.. we had a pretty large group of high school students and he held their attention so well.. it was extremely cold outside that day and the kids were still very attentive and glad to be there..

I drove up to Petersburg just to visit the National Battlefield and Pamplin Park. If you want to drive through the park and see the sites, like the Crater, make sure you start at the visitor's center at 5001 Siege Rd, Petersburg, VA 23804. It's a small, outdated building, but it has that nostalgic NPS feel. There's a small bookstore in the front. Then there's a little circular part in the back with a theater in the middle that plays a very informative 20 minutes film. On the outer part there are exhibits. You can tell it needs some updating, but the signs and artifacts were informative and well done. I got there at 9am on a Saturday, and a very friendly young ranger greeted me. She provided maps and recommendations for not only the Petersburg battlefield but also other sites in the area. She was extremely knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about history. There's a small paved path that go back to some earthworks and a cannon. There's even a display with a button that plays an informative recording. I was pleasantly surprised by several of these large displays around the property, which all worked and sounded great. There are bathrooms here that were quiet and clean too. Then you hop in your vehicle and drive down a one-way road through the park. The property is very well maintained, and I saw lots of people walking, jogging, riding bicycles and even a few on horseback. There are several marked stops with places to park. There are quite a few stops, but depending on your interest, you probably don't need to pull over for everything. This was a really nice NPS location, and I'm glad I was finally able to visit.

Beside the historical import of the battles & the sacred remembrance of lives lost, the trails found within the woods is well worth the trip. From the visitors center (get a trailmap from inside) cross over the highway and take the first trailhead you see (either way). Most trails allow for ppl, horse & bike. Yellow blaze generally circumnavigate the park and interconnect south of the road. The red blaze are interior trails that interconnect south of the road too. I was able to easily put in 7+ miles. You can do as much or as little as you want. There're other parking spots on tour road that have access to trails and historical sites. Free entrance. Well shaded and easy flat footing.

Beautiful battlefield park. Friendly rangers. Lots to do and see! You can walk long trails, or drive from spot to spot if that's too much walking!

So many great options. There is a nice paved path that is 4 miles one way. Vehicles can also access it. Really great for bike riding. There are plenty of pull offs for sight seeing. Also, 11 miles of unpaved trails. The scenery is beautiful, mostly shaded.

I go for the scenic trails. Animal poop free, I love it. Bathroom is clean and stocked. Plenty parking. Well kept. Now the actual outside museum stuff, I checked it out initially, but it's the same from when I was a girl visiting with the family. Basically it's not shiny to me anymore. Buuttt, I love seeing families visit as I did in my youth. Great intel if history is your thing. I like the maintenance of it all. Oh yeah, I walk the street not the trails (facing traffic) and I like to see the people drive by and some will wave and others don't. For all the losers that don't wave.... kidding! Must see Virginia!

Never knew I would find a battlefield so interesting. It really helped me connect to history. Puts a whole understanding and comprehension in your mind about how our nation came to be what it is. Auto tour is really cool and they have some soft souvenier tees in the information center gift shop. They also have a booklet and patch for junior rangers if your kids are into that. Make sure you visit the crater on the auto trail. What a great place to visit and it's all FREE!

A DEFINITE must see. You can do the tour at your own pace, and there is something to see for everyone.

Completely awesome! The Park Rangers told us about the battles and the fortifications. The pine trees are beautiful. I particularly liked the giant oak tree.

What we saw, we liked. Unfortunately, the driving tour was closed due to a sink hole. Park rangers were great.
