The best food. I just discovered this place two days before I left. I had the coconut fish strips and then the chicken cordon bleu. Both were delicious. The owners are very friendly and as a bonus, they make sure the street dogs and cats have water and food. A must place to eat!!

Today is a lazy, rainy day in Progreso. We went out for breakfast and found this place. So happy we did. Very interesting, eclectic decor. Friendly servers. We ordered the continental combo for $130 pesos. It included fresh juice, a small “pot” of Mexican coffee, two eggs, toast, fries, tomatoes, avocado, apple bits, fresh fruit with yogurt and a basket of chips. (My husband had bacon too) You won’t leave hungry. The food was delicious and plentiful. Great find for Sunday brunch!!

Just a few steps away from the busy Malecon, this unassuming place has incredible food. There is a great variety of menu options. The prices are reasonable and the portions generous. Finally a decent margarita as well. The coconut fish fingers were addictive. Even when I was stuffed full I kept eating as I craved the fresh flavours. The chicken tacos were also delicious and my partner was in heaven with his ceviche on another visit. The owners take great pride in their food and keeping the place clean. Even wiped down all the condiments after each customer left. And should you have some change taking up space in your wallet, there is a donation jar at the entrance for help keeping the stray cats, dogs, birds, etc.

This place is amazing. The fish is cooked to perfection. We ordered a fish fillet yucateco style and wow!! The place itself is also really charming. There are charming bolero ballads playing and the decorations are really cool - feels like you have travelled back in time. The staff are friendly and have a passion for their food too. Highly highly recommend!

I have found the best ceviche in town! Delicious seafood soup too. And great WiFi. Definitely a new margarita hangout for me...

Fantastic place. Great food. Gabrielle and Julia are wonderful hosts. And they are kind and helpful to the local doggies. Love this place.

We had the aguachile and seafood quesadillas, both delicious! Kind service, fast, generous portions. It’s close to the beach and has a good ambience. Recommended!

Great food, large portions, very clean inside (was the only restaurant that we have been to in the Tucatan that had hand sanitizer at every table), music wasn’t too loud, and very kind family run business. It was the best restaurant we’ve been to in Progresso.

The food isn't top of the line, but nor are the prices, and the portions are always generous. Pleasant relaxed beachy atmosphere, and super friendly and kind owners/servers. (I feel so sorry for them when the cruise ships dock...ugh)

Absolutely the best piña coladas I've had in my time living in Mexico. Granted, I get them without alcohol. The ceviche is very nice as well. Everything is about the same price as the other places on the beach, but we always come here when we visit the beach just to grab a piña colada. Menus are available in English as well with the same prices as the mexican menu. It's located across the street from Buddy's, not next to it.

If you are in the area this is a must stop and enjoy. Hands down this was the best meal we had in Progreso, even over top rated beach front locations. Next time in Progreso we will definitely be eating here.

My family and I have loved Sol Y Mar for many years. For a long time expats had their photos on the walls and enjoyed the community check ins via the photos on the walls. Here's the rub - ceviche! It's by far the most affordable & safe for travelers in the area. The menu lists 2 to 4lbs of food. But if you ask for the local special you get a portion for 2 and off menu discounts. 2 meals and 2 alcoholic drinks were $20usd. Enjoy the colorful atmosphere and like family restaurateurs and make at least 1 visit per week or visit as you pop off the cruise ship and enjoy the cheapest port of call in the carribean. As there's not much worth doing aside from beach time at this Port. Trust us we have been here 15 years. Tip park by New lovers row - artsy and mostly safe parking $15pesos an hour. New art is popping up everywhere now.

A wonderful adress in Progreso really for the food wow fo the place. The owner is very nice and with a great humanity. Just go you will love it.

I frequently eat breakfast here. And at half the price of the places on the Malecon. The owner always greets us with a smile and a kind word, while his wife makes sure that we don't leave until we are full and happy. Also, I have tried the ceviche in at least 10 other restaurants in town, and consider Sol y Mar's to be the best.

Half a kilo of seviche is enough for 2 people. The quality is great, taste is amazing and the service was quick. Place to go when you are hungry.
