A fun twist on a neighbor bar! The Avery is literally located in a residential neighborhood. It's a fun place! Laid back and chill. A little throwback speakeasy type vibe. You can get your standard cocktails and martinis, plus some oldies but goodies. Old Fashion, Last Word, Side Car, Paper plane.... you get the drift. Worth a try before or after dinner. Cheers!

Went there with a group of four friends for my birthday and celebrating the end of the semester. It was our first time there and we were excited because it had good reviews. Environment was nice, drinks were great. Honestly, we were excited to have found a new spot. However, it had turned very quickly. We had been there for maybe 30 minutes when one of the male bartenders with white hair and a flannel approached us and said “so I see two of you are drinking and three of you are not, so you can’t use these barstools, please stand instead.” Meanwhile, no one was waiting to use the barstools because the bar didn’t even have enough people to occupy the entire bar and we had been there not even enough time to finish our drinks. It would have been a different story if the bar was packed and extra seats were needed. Maybe not even 30 people total in the entire bar on a Friday night. Will NOT be going back. EVER. Needless to say, we left the bar upset that our friends who weren’t drinking weren’t allowed to use their UNOCCUPIED seats. We planned on staying here for the night but we happily took our service elsewhere.

My favorite neighborhood bar! Mainly good vibes from the patrons, ALWAYS good service from the staff. Drinks are fantastic and staff goes out of your way to take care of you. I recommend the Avery to all of my friends when in the west end.

Seems like a great concept and popular spot, just needs some pickles, nuts, crackers, popcorn- anything to save us from an empty stomach full of booze driving around in the new England rain. In New York I don’t know if it’s legally allowed to have a full bar without a few snacks and N/A options for the Designated Driver…I’d love to see the same here.

Cool Art Deco Bar. We stopped year one Tuesday evening and it was a very chill, if not some what, dark atmosphere. They have a great cocktail list and the space – amazing tin ceiling tiles and stunning laser cuts at the bar – is super cool. Great bar to relax for a date or small group gathering. TL,DR: - Cozy (read: very small) bar - Excellent Cocktails - Cool atmosphere

This will become one of my regular haunts as it is a sophisticated place to tipple. The art nouveau decor is beautiful and the ambiance is sexy and inviting. They had old Motown tunes on which enhance the experience even more. The drinks we had were on point. Service was friendly and prompt.

If a zero star could be given.; I’d do so. The service from the female bartender there is horrible. Felt discriminated against from the very beginning with my shorter female friend; calling her a “child”! Ask for an ID; No problem! Call her a child! Then you definitely deserve less in tip. When deciding to leave a littler tip; was instantly called out in front of the whole bar; the lonely female customer that clearly goes there every weekend wasnt making the situation any better. This place is not accepting of outsiders. Highly not recommended.

Went on my first date with my wife and baby mama here. As good today as it was back then. Highly recommend if you’re looking for fantastic cocktails and a great atmosphere

My wife and I lived in Providence in the Federal Hill / West End area for about two years 2020-2021. We quickly became regulars at the Avery. If you haven't been here yet then you are definitely missing out! We frequently talk about the things we miss about Providence and the Avery is always at the top of the list, even two years later. We miss hanging out by the fountain on a nice night with our dog Cinna, or inside by the bar on a snowy day, talking with our neighbors, and meeting people from all over over a St Avery Cosmo or a Garden Mule. The ambiance is relaxed and chill, the cocktails are always phenomenal, they have a surprisingly good small rotating craft beer selection (frequently had some popular midwestern beers from back home), and most importantly the service is top tier! Shout out and huge thanks to Stu, Neda, and Katie for making us feel at home during our time in Providence!

Great staff, great atmosphere. Reasonable prices as well! The interior had a dimly lit carved wood/speakeasy vibe with very competent bar staff that really ties the experience together. While there isn't any food service, the drink service is top notch! (Note, while the space is small, I'd there's space for your party it's a wonderful time!)

This is a great elevated dive bar that does exactly what it needs to do, casual drink offerings in a week designed space. You don't go for the drinks, you go for the cool vibes

Swanky stylish Federal Hill hot spot. 🔥 Coming from Manhattan, it's hard to find my people when visiting the fam in RI, but I walked in to the the Avery and was greated with kindness and sincerity. I absolutely loved the "flora roja" topped with hibiscus 🌺 aloe shrub & cracked Szechuan peppercorn ❤️ vodka at its best!

We were in Providence for a Bachelorette trip in August. We were a medium size group that went to the Avery as it was recommended by one of the members of the party. The bartenders refused to serve anyone from our group. We were not a group that came there ready to rage more so a group to enjoy a nice cocktail. However, we learned we weren't welcomed so we left. Just expect to go there and not be served.

This place is expressive in its own right, and boasts charm and atmosphere. You can't go wrong, whether you start or end your night here. Would highly recommend their house Cosmo. It's such a pleasant drink, and so classy!

To me this is considered a dark bar and it is a very nice bar. I'm friendly with the bartender Stewart or Stewie as he goes by and Kelly very personable very friendly they know every drink on the menu and very attentive to your needs. If you're out on a date for an evening either before or after an event it's a great place to visit it's quiet sedate and the atmosphere is so quaint being such a dark bar and having such good service they have couches and tables along with a bar.

Lovely dark cosy place with nice outdoor space. The bartender made one of the best Moscow mule I ever had. For only $9!!

Drinks only but they are amazing! Seriously. The St Avery Cosmo is perfection. Hubs had a mezcal drink that he loved. And the ambiance is of another time. No TV's, no screens, just a chill place to chat, drink, and enjoy the finer things. ETA: Stull great. Every time we go it's the best end to walking around Providence. Do yourself a favor and grab some tiramisu from Sicilias and the grab a seat at the Avery bar for a cocktail.

This place needs to be showing up on national ‘best of’ lists. A really chill ambiance and nestled on a ridiculously picturesque square. Places like this are very few and far between.

After ordering drinks for myself and my friends, I walked away from the bar back to my table. The Avery only had a few tables full, but that did not stop the bartender from screaming “Why did you walk away from the bar?”, causing everyone to go immediately silent. This happened 2-3x, followed by the bartender making fun of me. At first I thought it was a joke, but then quickly realized that the bartender was, in fact, just an awful human being. This was probably the strangest/worst bar experience I’ve ever had and my friends and I will not be returning.
