If I could give ZERO STARS, I would!! Went to the ER where I was seen by provider Alloco. I can't even tell you what type of provider he actually is, because he barely introduced himself. I had to get his name from the nurse at the desk. He refused to listen to me and threw his hands in the air and walked out of the room while I was telling him my concerns. He was unprofessional, lacked empathy and compassion and was clearly disinterested in providing the best care. I am a veteran with numerous related medical issues that were caused by errors medical professionals made while I was in the service. I deserve better care and treatment.

If I could give this no stars I gladly would. Even though I don't go here, I have heard so many horrible disgusting things about this place in particular, despite they should be taking full care for free of veterans ETC. This is a shame that I have to write this review and I have never even been there nor am I a veteran. But the disgusting things that I have heard about this place, I would not recommend it go to rush or Christ hospital instead. Thanks in advance

This review is for how Hines VA handled my emergency visit with Covid nothing else. After going twice to Edward Hospital in Naperville and being sent home both times with low blood oxygen levels when sick with Covid, my VA nurse said I needed to just get to Hines. Barely able breathe let alone walk I got a ride to Hines and went to the emergency room. My blood oxygen levels were as low as 67% at this point and the emergency staff immediately took care of me, got me to the ICU and put me on oxygen. Shortly after they got me set up in a room and the nurses took care of anything and everything I could possibly need. The food was excellent too and within a few days I was finally able to go home. Thank you Hines staff you made one of the most difficult times in my life much easier.

Very hit or miss. My father has been using Hines as his medical provider for decades. Lately it's either good or bad. Some of the nurses are great. However they lost my father's hearing aids, nothing has been done. I was told I can't file a complaint. The nurses override the doctors orders, there isn't clear communication between teams of doctors, My father was cleared for a soft diet the nurse over road that bc he coughed (a smoker for 60+yrs) and it took FIVE DAYS for them redo the swallow study with the same results as they originally go.so my father received no nutrition so liquids. Then the nurses were saying that he seemed very confused and out of it, and couldn't really talk. You would also be confused and not able to really talk if you had known nutrition or liquids for almost a whole week. The beside manner in the IUC is severely lacking among the residents. Just extremely disappointed in the lack of care, dirty rooms, nurse spill stuff and take blanket off patients to clean it up then leave sheets all over the ground. Room wasn't mopped for days. They out of the bed pads apparently..they let patients sit in the fecal matter bc they lack the pads, don't put barrier cream on them.

Its really sad how the Older vets are treated by the staff. Their pick up times are minimum 2-3 hours. I'm super disappointed at the Hines VA Management. Upstairs people. Hope something changes.

The quality of care at Hines VA has SLIPPED abysmally since Covid 19. It is shocking how much it has come downhill since then. The blatant neglect of veterans especially mental health and the lack of concern is even worse. It is scandalous how bad it has become

The PAS department (the people who schedule appointments and answer the phones) at Hines, is ABSOLUTELY the worse part of being a patient at Hines hospital. Trying to RETURN a call to schedule an appointment, waiting on hold over 20 minutes, just to be hung up on is UNACCEPTABLE. It’s a disgrace to the Veterans serving our country. Upper management does absolutely NOTHING! Changes need to be made. TERRIBLE first impression for our new Veterans trying to seek health care.

Kudos to Cafeteria Staff from the cooks, cashiers, janitorial and all the VA staff that helped me locate it and return to the 8th floor. I joked with VA employees in the line with me and they didn't take offense. It made my wait a little easier. You never know what a person is going thru. Thanks VA staff.

Hines has some very good people. And it has some really lousy lousy people! Patient Advocacy may be somewhat helpful at times but not as often as a veteran might like. If a Veteran does not care for a doctor, mental health provider or other individual or treatment plan, be clear and open about your desire for a solution! If you have an issue it might be very helpful to write to the director of the facility, your congressman, senator and/or Washington directly. Also the BBB offers the opportunity to write reviews and complaints. Be sure that you articulate your problem as well you can. That way your results will be better. If you get stuck ask for help! Make your voice known and heard. It counts!! Good luck!!

Visited earlier this year 2018 for the first time and I was given a SENIOR FORMULA multivitamin when I'm not a senior? When at the mental health room to see a doctor, the male employee working at the desk asked me questions in front of everyone that the doctor is supposed to ask me in private especially with HIPAA LAW.

Been using them for a while now. Scheduling is game. They now get you an appointment within the standards of care (20 days primary care and 28 specialty) to avoid community care then they call and cancel close to the appt because the doctor won't be there and reschedule you further out. This schedule/reschedule game has happend with endocrinologist 4 months, neurology 3 month, cardiology 3 month and each time it's the doctor won't be there. VA Healthcare need reform. Just give me an insurance card that tells me what i owe, then you pay. Mark my words there will be another scheduling scandal because more veterans died again waiting to get care because of scheduling games. Force off federal employees (union and non union)and elected officials and their family member to use the VA Healthcare system and see how fast things get fixed. This system is a joke.

It is so frustrating when I try to make a mental health appointment, but the first available just for intake is 2 months out.... Seriously??! I'm rated 70% just for mental health alone, so that should tell you something. I was going to my appointments at the Joliet va clinic, seeing a social worker. That care was just.... OK.... But it was care. I stopped going when covid hit because, well, covid. (I was too scared to see anyone during that time.) Because it has been over a year, I've been told I need to do intake again for mental health. Fine, whatever. I think that's absolutely crazy, but whatever. But then I'm told the next appointment with Hines isn't for two months... Just for intake... And then I'll have to wait AGAIN for an actual appointment. That's absolutely crazy! This is WHY there is such bad stereotypes when it comes to the VA. A veteran, who is seeking out mental health, shouldn't have to wait for 2 months for an intake appointment. I shouldn't have to consider calling a hotline because the VA is failing to have reasonable wait times so an intake appt. You're making it way too hard for a veteran to get mental health help. Do better.

Worst health care facility I've ever experienced. Doctors have zero beside manner and treat veterans like an inconvenience. Nurses aren't any better. Whether it's an in person visit or on the phone you are treated like a nuisance. It's obvious they care nothing about vets and just trying to make money.

Customer service is terrible. They are rude and short with people. They have forgot to fill my prescription multiple times. They put you on hold for long periods at a time. Typical government funded agency not operating for profit but as a chore for Uncle Sam. Post office works quicker than Hines.

Excellent medical care and treatment o veterans. Anything from medical to social services to housing can be addressed inside. Extremely clean facility that is always expanding. Transportation is provided free of charge. A most for any veteran. Expansive facility with many buildings that offer a variety of services to meet any veterans need.

Was recently an inpatient after having cardiac stents placed in the care I was received was excellent. I’ve seen the Care being a nurse at the private hospitals in the city of Chicago, and I feel the care they give it Hines VA outweighs and outdo the care in the private sector, since the private sector is only interested in your money.

Never Ending Problems with the VA Things need to seriously change for all VA departments General Issues 1.) The VA hasn’t helped me with much, they didn’t help me find a job, they didn’t help me find a home, they didn’t help me with financial issues, they won’t give me a higher disability even though I qualify, employees that I am trying to get in contact with ghost me and there are just constant issues that continue to occur 2.) Overly complicated forms and repetitive information on forms 3.) Incompetent employees 4.) Getting bounced back and forth between different departments because nobody seems to know what they are doing 5.) Employees struggle to answer basic questions 6.) Long wait time to be seen by providers and other community care members 7.) Difficulty reaching departments 8.) Employees and community care members ghost veterans 9.) Slow response to inquiries 10.) The VA continues to hire incompetent employees while there are many veterans that are starving and even homeless that are far more capable of fulfilling these rolls 11.) The VA claims that they can help homeless veterans or veterans on the brink of homelessness but that is a lie, they will only help people that are currently on the streets and even that is questionable 12.) The VA makes the education benefits difficult and time consuming to apply for any kind of benefits and change the requirements every single year VA Disability Compensation 13.) VA Compensation makes it difficult to apply for disability and to increase disability (playing hardball) 14.) VA Compensation department wants to schedule your appointments far far away from where you live or have you go to dangerous locations 15.) VA Compensation department wants veterans to be seen too quickly but take a long time to process claims 16.) VA Compensation department gets appointments and paperwork mixed up and their 3rd parties (i.e. QTC) doesn’t seem to have proper doctors and other staff members that can properly communicate a veteran’s disability and medical history VA 6-Month Job Rehabilitation Program 17.) The VA has a 6th month job rehabilitation program, however the participants are forced to take multiple unnecessary classes for no pay during the first two weeks, that means veterans are expected to drive all that distance and sit for hours each day for no pay 18.) Participants in that program shouldn’t have to take classes at the VA for no pay 19.) The program does not guarantee you a position within the hospital and you still have to go through interviews 20.) The program only pays you minimum wage and whoever oversees the payment process takes forever to give you your first paycheck 21.) I was initially told that this was going to be a smooth and easy process but things have been very disappointing

After being completely land blasted by the Physicians Immediate Care, I drove to Hines ER. The service to Vets is above and beyond. If you are a Veteran, PLEASE use the VA Clinics and Hospitals. Very little wait, esp compared to civilians and they treat Veterans top notch.... I drove to Hines VA Hospital after I walked out of Urgent care. Urgent care told me there was nothing wrong with me. It was a 30 minute drive, within 10 minutes a nurse took my vitals, 10 minutes after that a tech completed chest XRays. While waiting for my XRays a nurse provided me a COVID and Flu test. I received XRays and was diagnosed and treated with Pneumonia in my lungs. I was in and out and fully treated in approx 75 minutes with my antibiotic and script. I walked out of the VA hospital last night and thought - I will never Use that Urgent Care facility - Never. VA ALL THE WAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SEFVICE AND GREAT ATTITIUDE TOWARDS VETERANS

One of the oldest VA hospitals in the area, but care, doctors, staff are up to date. The campus has many buildings. The first building is still in use, mainly for offices. The rest of the campus has many buildings that are newer to new. Valet parking- FREE In my 20+ years I have always was satisfied with my care. Like all VA hospitals there is a medical school near by. There are Many services in addition to medical care. Update 19-11-28 Cameras not allowed. The main entrance building 200. Valet car drop off. Please note. The entire grounds and buildings policy doesn’t allow smoking.

If you need to go inpatient, I would highly recommend going to jesse brown over hines. Spent a week inpatient at hines, food was inedible, staff was curt, room felt dark and drab. Jesse Brown treats you infinitely better. The staff is professional, and caring. Food is excellent and you order off a menu. Rooms are bright and clean.

I go here 2-4 times a month. I am treated with respect . 90% of appointments are good and I get the care I need. The only negative thing I can say is that the policy of no pain medication (unless you have terminal cancer) is cruel and inhumane to veterans. I realize the VA is under a Congressional mandate/ order that they must obey as they get their operating budget from Congress. That being said, we should not have been lumped in with heroin and Fentanyl abusers/overdoses. Unfair.

Endoscopy/colonoscopy on 7/28/2023. Check in nurse (Maria) was great, took the time to explain everything. Procedure nurse (Dennis) also took time to explain. Dr. Brunnings went over the whole procedure step by step to remove any of my concerns. Because of the three of them, I felt very relaxed and confident in the procedures.

I just recently moved to I.L and setting up an appointment through the Joliet center has been nothing less than a nightmare. After 3 failed attempts at setting up an appointment, and then setting up an appointment with a completely wrong specialists I had enough and called the Hines VA Center. Lisa, the triage nurse in the MH department at Hines has been a saint and has helped me out tremendously! In my opinion, she should be recognized for her performance. She not only addressed and corrected the issues that Joliet caused, but went above her duties to then follow up with me on day of appointment to make sure everything went smoothly for me. I can only hope the Joliet facility can designate their concerns to the employees that speak with the Veterans first-hand and assist setting up their appointments. First impressions can mean everything when it comes to the care a Veteran receives.

I must share this Hospital, the staff, all staff is the most kind, considerate, caring I have ever had the privledge of being involved with. My husband a veteran has had the "BEST" care of his life at HInes VA ILLinois. Everyone and I mean everyone greets you in the hall ways with good morning, hello, thank you for your service. I've witnessed staff, Dr.s ,Rn's help him button his shirt, take off his coat etc. They are so kind to me included. His healthcare is their 2nd top priority after HE is prioritized. Everyone seems joyful to work there. I have been in healthcare for 45yrs and my own hospital he has not and would not get this kind of Top Tier healthcare. I wish I could be their pt I'd drop my insurance and be there tomorrow!! You are a blessing to us. Keep up the good work. I boast of you all the time. The Campbell family.

Close to metro area. Modern and clean. Most services are available. Now will send you offsite for some appts. Appts anywhere from 3 to 8 weeks. It is what it is!!! Rather large place. Plenty parking and valet service. Most doctors are friendly. Readily contact you via text, email and letter, Plenty of call reminders. Telehealth is available, still as of 04/23. Over all recommend as good, not perfect, but good.

Nurses are the only good thing here , the night shift and doctors would rather dope you up and let you die before offering assistance as they would rather wait for day shift to do any real doctoring...to treat vets like this is terrible and they should be ashamed of themselves. When this happened I was on 10west where nurses would offer oxygen and then doctor denied it ...each day progresses and gets worse but no answers and no help just relax and wait and get worse .... these administrators should bee ashamed of this environment and how they treat veterans

Worst VA center I have visited! Apparently they feel vets who check in voluntarily are prisoners confined to their cells. I simply said I was going to take a walk and was told I am under quarantine and not to leave my room. I am not a prisoner, nor is there any reason for me to be quarantined. Also, they attempted to give me an injection without my permission. To clarify, I am not a crazy guy. I was simply there for an annual evaluation to record the progression of my multiple sclerosis. Aside from MS I am healthy.

I do not recommend any Veteran to go to Hines VA for inpatient mental health. Although there are some outstanding nurses that do care about their patients, I've also unfortunatly witnessed inappropriate behavior with staff as well as openly gossiping and laughing about inpatients in 2 South during sleep hours.
