Please read this comment! The entertainment crew and the staff are welcoming, nice and friendly. Majority tries to help you and make you feel at home. The location looks beautiful, pool is nice and the beach is decent. Everything on the outside is good. Now let’s talk about the inside.. My Aunt saw a roach in the first room we were assigned and the toilet was stained inside, than we were assigned to a different room. My sheets had a stain which that’s disgusting and the shower curtain too. Taking a shower was a nightmare for me honestly. Now let’s talk about the food.. The first day I thought I was going to die of hunger but that’s me personally, I recognize that I’m a picky eater there was a decent variety of food. As the days passed I ate better. Crockery is something that always concerns me in restaurants. Overall I wouldn’t go back I prefer to pay a little bit more and have a better experience. The one that’s called SENATOR looks so much better in case you really thinking about combing here.

Stayed here for 2 nights (we were a group of 30 on a family reunion). ROOMS: OK from a distance but the sheets in every room had stains, bathrooms are dirty and old and the rooms themselves are so outdated that you will see people charging their electronics in the lobby because the outlets in the rooms don’t fit any regular charger. FOOD: HORRIBLE!! all 30 of us got sick with food poisoning. on our last day, we saw the cooks plate the raw meat with the cooked meat so i can’t even imagine what else they are doing with the food. everything was very bland and disappointing because Dominican food is nothing like that. POOL/BEACH: NEED WORK. the pool is nothing at all special and also very small for a resort, and the beach could use cleaning up. BAR: DECENT, they are quick and the drinks do their job. CUSTOMER SERVICE: GOOD. Dominicans are typically hospitable in nature so this is a given. I am from the Dominican Republic and have been to a few resorts and this is by far the WORST EXPERIENCE i’ve had. Please avoid.

This place will make you never want to come back to Dominican Republic ever again and truly this a beautiful island with other great services so please don't let this leave a bad taste in your mouth. Security to get in and out is decent but they should really have an entry and exit lane instead of only one lane. There is no valet parking and barely any parking at that. The street will be filled with back to back. Few employees try their best to be kind and generous but nobody knows what's going on ever. The employees all look overworked and underpaid. The check in process was a nightmare. It was disorganized and packed! The check in took about 2 hours. The staff gave us the wrong room because our room wasn't ready after giving them 2 hours extra time? The room they gave us was then the wrong room and they switched our rooms but the style was the exact same as the last (which was still wrong). When you enter the lobby they don't really greet you or give you any information besides where your room is and how to get a towel at the pool which you get 1 towel by giving them a card. The room was a let down. We didn't have towels until we asked and one of the towels were ripped. The staff made out beds but the bathroom was still a mess and no towels were replaced. The outlets fall out. The window for the bathroom cracked/stained. The bath tub stained. The sink falling apart. The toilet didn't have any issues. The AC is not strong enough but there is cool air. The beds aren't the most comfortable but their okay. The beach and the pool are okay the pools are a little flithy but maybe that's me being picky. The pool farther away from check in is nicer if you like to listen to some jams but don't want to hear screaming and kids running around. If you are a foodie don't come here or you'll be sad. The food isn't terrible but it isn't good. It doesn't taste like it's made with love at all. The food is either undercooked or overcooked and lacks flavor. Be mindful that you be will have to go searching for your own utensils, cups, napkins because the staff do not reorganize the tables quick enough. Kids are constantly running around doing whatever they want and the staff/security can't do much or won't. We did go into town and even the locals shared that this resort has let itself go over the years. The town however is small and beautiful for a nice day trip.

Playabachata Resort Air Transat website provides false information. *Gift shop does not take CAD. Only USD or credit cards. Very expensive. A can of Pringles were $10 USD. Lip balm, BUM BUM brand $10 USD. There are sales though. *Mosquitos plus plus. Bring repellent & Afterbite. They are itchy & painful. *3 pools, not 5 *2 bars, not 8 *no swim up bar *no beach bar *pool closes at 6pm *no training room *no Spa Services, except Massage ($59usd for 50mins) *no nightclub *Locals came in every Fri, Sat & Sun. Large families & abundance of children. *Oceanfront is on the main sidewalk where everyone walks from resort to resort, including large food bins & garbage bins early in the morning that wake you. There was a wedding one weekend & my husband counted 38 ppl coming from the Senator to our resort. *CAD can be used outside the resort & it will be converted to USD. *there are 2 taxes on eveeything outside the resort for tourists. *no designated smoking areas. Ppl were vaping & smoking in the pool.

The service here regarding the rooms are good, you'll get your room, they'll call to see how your doing, overall nice, though few speak English. The problem with the service here is the cook staff and the bartenders, the bar gives you terrible alcohol, low quality trash that they won't even stir when making a cocktail, just put it together. The cook staff cannot even cook some times, they will not get good cuts for meat, just absolute random cuts. They use yesterday meats for soups the next day, and reusing and giving old food to you, leading to food poisoning or alcohol poisoning. The rooms are dirty and infested with ants, in my room we had fresh paint which ruined an expensive bag of mine. The beach is beautiful, the ocean is warm and nice, few seaweeds out on the ocean, the only problem is that the seafloor is covered in rocks, which can however lead you to finding a nice souvenir. They also allow locals to stay here, which leads to the entrance to be FILLED with cars, making it 1 lane enter and exit. Every night they have a stage which hosts events, usually being the same song played on loop. The worst part though is when you go to the neighboring hotel. If you are here or ever come here. Go to the neighboring hotel and you will be gravely upset. They have internet everywhere, great service, multiple pools, hot tub, bars with western alcohol, it's a shame really we didn't get this.

The location of the resort was the best part, as well as the facilities around the resort were nicely clean and taken care of (the beach and pool were always nice and clean). Most people around the resort were kind and helpful with the exception of some of the staff having an attitude like you're bothering them. The fridge in one of our rooms wasn't working when we arrived, took 2 days to have it fixed. After returning to our room after a day at the beach, our shower head was off the wall and even after bringing it to their attention, it never got fixed which made washing hair very difficult. All this is doable, but on our last night there, I was surprised by a cockroach the size of a mouse in the bathroom and when bringing it up to staff the next day it was shrugged off as if no big deal since it's a tropical country and that's what happens there. The resort itself is beautiful (even if half of it was shut down) but the rooms definitely don't look like the pictures and need improvement.

Guys if you don’t wanna get sick from their food and dirty room then don’t go there. They’re scam. They show nice stuffs online and reality it’s garbage. Their tasteless food gave me bacterial infection in my stomach and upper esophagus. I fell sick right after I got back home. Thor business should be shutdown.

Please put in a little bit more of your money and go somewhere else you would be happier. The problem when a company tries to separate these 2 resorts being this one to be the subpar. They should just expand and give their all to Presidential and make it more affordable for locals to enjoy and them not ending up to have gotten a subpar service. Even employees kind of looked like beaten, they all need an update and novelty. Employees are great, management here needs some deep thinking.

Overall experience with the Resort was not as expected. There are a lot of locals that go there on the weekends so it's crazy busy with adults, kids and everyone else. Everyone is everywhere, food goes out quickly and you have to be lucky to find close parking. I was given a room, had a smell and a broken shower but they changed the room after a day. Food quality is not very pleasing but after the weekend when everyone left the quality of food and service became a little better. For a family resort it's not bad if you go on weekdays. The beach has a lot of rocks and plants under water so I didn't have much fun on the beach area.

Very impressive when you first walk into the venue and are shown to your room by a porter, a lovely welcome by reception staff and beautiful exterior to the buildings. The venue spans along the beach and lovely for walking along the beach and up to a look out point which is perfect for watching the sunset. The wait staff in the dining room were great and very attentive, a shout out to Rosario who took care of us everyday at lunch and dinner. The rest of our experience left much to be desired. The interior of the room was dated and the bathroom had a musty smell, even after cleaning. The fan continuously squeaked so we were unable to use it. The food in the main dining room was average and not kept hot enough in the baymaree. Wifi was not available in the room and was unreliable throughout the facility.

I just got home from spending a week here and the photos for this place are photos of their property next door! The rooms are outdated with wicker. Our Toilet was broke the whole time. No coffee pot, coffee machines were not working most of my stay. No bath mat, I almost slipped and fell. No Cabanas or hot tubs. Most of the lounge chairs are broke! Food is all cold. Mix drinks are terrible! Will never go back to this place. All the money their making, this place needs a makeover! Sucks bad!!!

Both myself and my wife enjoyed our stay. Clean rooms with entertainment across the resort. From beach parties to karaoke and live shows put on by entertainers. Food was never and issue with alot of restaurants to choose from. Pools were clean and music everywhere the only complaint was lack of loungers by the pool and ocean. I will definitely return to this resort.

Stayed here with a group. This was our third time here. The staff are very nice and friendly. Food is ok at best. We will not be returning as the rooms are full of mold and ants. We had to move room 3 times and each time it was worse. The mold spores were hanging down from the bathroom vent and the back of the window drapes were covered in black mold. When this was a RIU hotel it was a 5 star, now I wouldnt give it a 1.

Please keep in mind that we are not really resort people when reading this review. The rooms where outdated, and all of the electrical sockets are European style which means having to buy a adapter for anyone from the US adapter system. The long unorganized lines for food where a bit stressful and overall the food was not all that great. The beach was ok, the pool was very shallow which makes it hard for tall adults to enjoy it. The staff in the dinning area was very nice as well as the guards and the skycaps. We had an ok experience but not one that we would repeat any time soon.

Make sure to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking any stay. They compare thousands of hotel sites and normally will have prices much cheaper than others! Thank me later on! This resort is the best rated in this area. I've been staying here for a very long time. If you choose this place you won't regret it. staff were very helpful and very friendly. At the bar they always remember who came first and are sure to be fair. The food is amazing and even better on the weekends. I would definitely recommend staying here!

DISCLAIMER: I was here for the day through a Carnival Cruise excursion. If you are thinking about staying here, don’t! If you are thinking about doing a cruise excursion, consider it. As a cruise excursion, it was fine. I wouldn’t personally do it again though. The beach was beautiful, and my dad and I had a lot of fun playing and snorkeling in the water. I will say there was a lot of reef and brush in the water which was a little dangerous, but that is common for the Caribbean. Now for the not so good, the beach chairs were in really bad condition. Most of them were broken. The food was TERRIBLE. I naturally feel wary eating in Latin American and Caribbean countries because of different FDA regulations and dirty water, but this sent my suspicions through the roof. The dining room was dark and dirty. The food looked unappetizing. The fountain drink machines were old and looked like they came straight from the 1980s. I nibbled at my food and didn’t dare try the water. The desserts were mediocre at best. Also, the silverware I picked up was dirty. Overall, I would not recommend this place to stay.

The worst hotel ever! The rooms are antique and full of ants. On top of that I leave the room to go eat some breakfast and the room was never cleaned until I went to front desk and reported around 4pm. The food was horrible and it seems that the menu was the same thing every single day. The only good thing on the hotel are the employees from the bar and kitchen. The cleaning crew is a nightmare. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL! THERE'RE BETTER OPTIONS FOR THIS PRICE.

The staff was pleasant but not really helpful. I didn't have a control for the TV in my room. I asked 4 different people on the 2 night, 3 day stay and I never got a control so I had to unplug my television every night. I also had to wait 15 minutes for a clean plate in the buffet but they did have a decent variety of food. My second night I made a reservation in the Italian restaurant. The steak was hard, the veg was cold and so was my son's pizza. When it was brought the the waitresses attention, she was very apologetic and pleasant, her supervisor just gave me excuses as to why it was possibly cold and did not apologize once, so I went to bed with a roll with butter. The pools are constantly being cleaned and that's a plus, the bar tenders and the wait staff in the food areas and on grounds are very pleasant and friendly.

There are many reasons we would never return … but I will start with the ridiculous way you have to wait every morning to get a dinner reservation at night. Why would you be able to sign up for everything the day you check in? Some people enjoy staying up late and sleeping in on your vacation. Next, the food at the steakhouse was not good. It should be something special. It was just like the buffet food. No wifi in the room. The pool has no stairs for people with disabilities. There should be some cement stairs to enter slowly with a good handle. The selection at dinner was big, but the food in general was not very good. There were no chairs available by the pool or the beach each day, even when we came out at 8:00 in the morning to find one. Also, the resort kept running out of bath towels for the rooms and poolside towels each day we were there. That is an easy fix to buy more. You should never run out of towels. There were just too many things that weren’t good about this resort. And it is too bad, because we liked the room and we liked the grounds and location. But not worth all the other disappointments.

This was our third time here, it was good a few years ago but now it has steadily downhill. The food was really good but the rooms are terrible. Mold and mildew is rampant throughout the entire resort. I booked two rooms and we had fungus growing through the vent in the bathroom. We notified the staff and they just pulled the fungus down and painted over it. Two days later it was back. We had to change rooms due to health concerns. The staff is mostly new and speak or understand very little english. All of our clothes and luggage smelt musty when we left.

  • 2/5 Jerry C. 2 years ago on Google
The rooms were antiquated. The staff at the resort were very attentive and worked hard. Unfortunately this gets overlooked since wifi is limited to the reception area, the food was horrible, and the drinks were definitely made from cheap liquor. If you're considering staying here spend a little more for the Senator which is literally a 5 minute walk. It's well worth it.

My stay here was so amazing I’ll definitely be returning 😇 I had so much fun! The entertainment is on point everybody is so nice food is not too bad either! I enjoyed the fresh options. Thank you!

  • 3/5 Andre P. 2 years ago on Google
I give it strong 3 stars. Generally it has everything you need, but I'd like it to have more entertainment, some kind of Disco or DJ. Because as soon as the regular show is over, it's getting really boring, no music, no nothing..., and it's only 10:30pm. So it's like everything is fine but there's nothing that makes me want to come back.

  • 2/5 S P. 2 years ago on Google
2-3 star resort...they need wifi... How is this labelled a 5 star resort without wifi in the rooms?? And the internet that they do have available in the lobby is extremely slow... The furniture in the rooms is old and is in genuine need of an upgrade. They need better cleaning practices in restaurants too(especially in these times). Is it too much to ask for a table to be wiped between customers?? The rooms themselves could also use general maintenance I suppose but they are not too much of an issue. Personally, I would have preferred better veg food as well. Other than this, the location itself is amazing. I had fun throughout. I would definitely visit some other resort if I decided to go again though.

Horrible! I was there Feb 2022. This place is extremely outdated. You are given a large plastic keychain block with actual keys to your room and safe. No magnetic key available. I wasn’t able to plug in my phone charger or blow dryer because the outlets are very old. The hair dryer inside the room didn’t work, neither did the bathroom light. The food selection is gross and they serve the same thing in the buffet daily. It rained every day I was there and got yelled at by the pool towel attendant because I changed my towel twice within a couple of hours because the towel got soaked in the rain. Apparently, you are only allowed one towel per day. There was no seafood. Be prepared to pay $80 USD for COVID testing needed to fly back home.

Amazing! I went back in March and absolutely had the best time. The resort was clean, the staff were amazing and my overall experience was wonderful. The evening shows and entertainment were great. I loved how they had a sister resort that you could visit and everything was included. Food was good and they had a large variety of options. The wifi wasn't very strong but you could visit the other resort for that. Overall for the price it was amazing.

Not gonna come back. Some staff are super friendly and so so nice while others are super rude, not helpful and give you rude looks as if they wished us tourists would leave. People constantly fighting for beach chairs, cockroaches everywhere, food/water got my family (7people) all sick. Food is the same pretty much everyday, shows are the same every week, location is nice, beach is nice, if you’re going to book I’d recommend booking the hotel right beside (senator) as it’s much better then playabachata. Our AC never worked the whole 2 weeks we stayed.

  • 5/5 Samantha T. 1 year ago on Google
I just returned from a 7 day vacation at Playabachata. I was quite nervous while booking after reading so many negative reviews, but it was cheaper than most other resorts in the DR so I decided to just lower my expectations and just book it. I am so glad that I did, my fiancé and I had a great trip. No wait for the check in, the room was spacious although the furniture was dated and the room smelt a bit musty( we just left balcony door open with the screen and it went away), we never had an issue with AC or hot water both worked the entire time. The beach was great, you do have to get there early if you want prime loungers/location but we had no problem finding some even in the middle of the afternoon(we just had to drag them to another location) **also please be careful swimming when the red flag is up and it’s really wavy- we had no problems swimming up to our waists but we did watch a man swim out further and get pulled out very far, thankfully the resort crew were able to get to him by kayak and rescue him. The response time was about 5 minutes and they had a doctor there waiting for him which was reassuring to see. The pools were good, but very busy- we waited until later in the afternoon(3-4) to go and they were quiet and enjoyable. The food was good, not the best but there was always something we enjoyed at the buffet. The guy at the first egg station makes amazing omelettes. I also read in the reviews that was no bacon- but there was bacon for breakfast 4 out of the 7 mornings we were there. The drinks were great, lots of slushie drinks and cocktails to choose from. The coffee in the morning was delightful- they make a great Spanish coffee and the caramel coffee was also really good. Overall we had a great time and it was a great value for what we paid. I would come back again.

Don't believe anything in the page. The schedules are tight and you cannot simply get a reservation for the restaurant. No matter how early you try. The food is just meh at is best. The drinks are mediocre. The staff is extremely warm and friendly. And the beach is beautiful.

  • 2/5 Kim H. 1 year ago on Google
Booked this resort for my partner’s family reunion and it wasn’t up to expectations. There was a wait to check in at the front, but this was totally understandable since they were busy. The disappointment came from the room itself, not only it wasn’t cozy - the air conditioning wasn’t working up to full capacity. It wasn’t a big deal to me until I saw a cockroach in the bathroom, this was the cherry on top. Sadly, our room didn’t have warm or hot water either, we asked our other family members if they were experiencing this too and it was the same. Reason why we didn’t ask to switch rooms, I felt that it was going to be in the same conditions or worst. Another thing to note if you are coming here, the rooms have really outdated charging ports. You will need to purchase an extender in order to charge your phone, I used an Apple adapter so it could be different for other people. The employees were super nice and accommodating. Overall, the service and location was a pro since it wasn’t super far from Santiago, but that cockroach is what really threw me off. I wouldn’t re-book again, and you do get what you pay for.

This is a 3 star resort. Beware of cockroaches... we had a great time but was disappointed because we were lead to believe it was better then it was when looking at reviews. Our fridge was broken, bathroom window was broken, found 2 live cockroaches in our room. Food was edible but not the greatest no variety very repetitive. In order to get in the a la carts you hade to get to the lobby 45 mins before registering. They had one restaurants that rotated between Italian and stake but was out of stake the day we got into restaurants. Staff were great and beach was amazing. I the resort is running at half probably due to covid. Overall if the advertised as 3 star I would have been much happier.

This was the worst place I have ever been in my whole entire life the supervisor Paula has no respect and no costumer service what's so ever. The room's are so small yet alone they ripped us off we payed for a family room and got the same room as everyone else but the difference is we payed more and they were lieing and saying that are room was bigger we changed room 3 times because there was a bunch of bugs on are sink. The second room was invested with cockroaches we went to complained to Paula the ASSISTANT supervisor and she gave us attitude and didn't want to change us room's she wants to spray my room with cockroach spray and I said no because I had a newborn and and it would be harmful and she did not care

We went on the week of Dec 27th. Beach was beautiful & clean. It seems the better area is actually on the expesive hotel side. To me and my family, food was ok, we were content with it. Small selection of fruit, but good (bananas, papayas, passion fruit, pineaple and cantaloupe). However, we had a couple of instances we had a way too salty pasta and beef in the "romantic dinner" that tasted cleaning product. Staff clean constantly, which is great. Unfortunately, the rooms are bad, so outdated. Even though they clean so much I did not feel confortable, it still feels dirty. Pool is very small we didn't even get in, not appealing at all. I had a massage, which was amazing. Last thing is - you barely get serviced, it is like they didn't want the tips. Beer in plastic glass all along. In summary, it was an ok experience - beach is nice and food is fine. But we will not come back as nothing will change.

The worst resort my family and I have ever been. Our flight got delayed and gave us a completely different room then the one we got. It was dirty, had mold, no blankets, sheets were dirty, toilet didnt flush, balcony did not open, food was horrible, uncooked and untasty. The service was terrible and had no wifi. The people were very disrespectful. The beach and pool were dirty. The water pressure was low. Sink did not turn on. The ceiling fan did not work properly and we couldn’t charge our phones. 0/5 do NOT go here.

The worse customer service I've ever received happened in this resort, the people at the front desk are just rude and disrespectful, I brought my family here the worse mistake I ever made. The room was disgusting and falling apart, broken door handle, no key for the safe box to secure your personal items, holes in the wall, bathtub looks like it has never been cleaned up and the bed sheets were so dirty. Food: looks like it was preheat from the day before, the fruits definitely were been brought back from previous servings. Not fresh at all. Beach chairs most of them are missing parts, you have to really look around to find a chair that's sustainable. At one point a fight broke up near the pool making my wife and I grabbed our two kids and run to our room for safety. I don't recommend this place to anyone to visit.
