STAY HERE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE ROYALTY!!! Let me start by saying my fiancé and I are in the hospitality business and we were extremely impressed by attentive and welcoming staff, the grounds, the location, the hotel, the pool the food and the service. We needed a place to really relax and unplug from the stress of everyday life. Marcela was paradise for us! Betty greeted us upon arrival and checked us in with ease. Shortly after we got to our room someone brought us a complimentary appetizer and a fruity drink which was really refreshing after a long journey. We stayed in the Hortencia Villa – 4A. It’s a two bedroom, two bath with amazing views of the bay from the balcony off of the bedroom, living room and dining room. The villa came fully equipped with everything you would need to prepare a gourmet meal however PV is a foodie paradise so we didn’t utilize the kitchen too much. They even provide complimentary coffee, creamer, sugar, ice and purified water in your kitchen. And towels….so many fresh towels! There was also a washer and dryer with laundry detergent and softener which came in handy. The bed was so comfortable with blackout curtains so you can sleep in past sunrise. We considered staying in the Romantic Zone but opted for Marcela because we were concerned about the noise if we stayed right in town. It is nice a quiet at night being located right above the busy city. The landscaping and vegetation are lush. The pool area has really comfortable loungers, towels, and bar service. There’s always an area around the patio will full sun if you want to go home with a nice tan. The property is pristine! The location is perfect as Marcela is in the Amapas which is right above the Romantic Zone. We walked down to Los Muertos beach each day. It’s an uphill trek back so sometimes we would hail a taxi for 80 pesos (which converts to about $4 US). The staff here is amazing! Everyone greets you with a smile. The manager, Ernesto was so knowledgeable and kind. He took us on a tour of the property and showed us the man made Cave Suite. The cave is built into the side of a hilltop with amazing views of the bay of Banderas and the city. It is so spacious and even has a private outdoor hot tub. It would perfect for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. We downloaded the Whatsapp as this is their mode of communication and they would answer us immediately. We are already planning our next visit to PV and will definitely be staying at Marcela. Our new home away from home!

This place is so awesome and I highly recommend it to everyone! The staff here is very nice and welcoming! They practically treat you like family and they’re available to any of your needs. My family and I came from NC to visit here and really enjoyed our stay that I’ll definitely be coming back with just my husband and I for our anniversary. They have the romantic cave room that’s so nice for just a couple to enjoy their private stay! I will be coming back probably next month! This place is the BEST!!!!!

Our stay was wonderful and we will go back. I was there with my wife and four daughters. Right from the get-go at check-in Elizabeth greeted us with a huge smile. Elizabeth's communication and hospitality skills were excellent. She made us feel like we had just come home from a long journey. Which wehad:) Luis and help immediately took our truck load of Baggage to the room.it was like as lightning speed. After getting settled we went out to discover the beautiful grounds of the Marcela Resort. The jungle vegetation and landscaping is breathtaking: coming from a green thumb if i say so myself. We went for a swim and decided to stay at the hotel to have dinner at thier restaurant. Wow food was delicious...everything! We stayed for 7 nights and patronized the restaurant several times. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner a few time and to never disappoint. Chef's Erick and company had it going on. And im a foodie from San Francisco Ca Bay Area. The Bartenders at the pool Oscar, Jose, and Yahir who had the greates personality. He would call me Senor Raymon:) There were several other personnel who were also AWESOME. A special high five goes out to Betti. She was the Bomb and took well care of us all. I call her Wonder Woman. Thank you. Accommodations were spectacular. we rented one of the penthouses. It was well decorated. Compliments to the Interior designer Marcela. We felt at home it was super cozy beds were dreamy. It was a three bedroom three bathrooms with windows all around with incredible views of Banderas Bay. Priceless. Location location location with a few stairs. My family and I travel to PV annually and this was the 1st time we did not rent a vehicle. I loved waking up to the gorgeous mornings having cup of jave on the terrace the go out to do my morniing walk into downtown La Área Romántica to the end of the Malecón n back Then getting ready and taking the family for our daily adventure. The hidden Beaches or hanging out at the beach club of La Palapa or El Dorado being pampered. The walk home was a bit more challenging after doing nothing but RnR. However, the consolation was one, the Corona Micheladas/Michechevas store just before the stairs to Marcela Resort. Talk about Micheladas out of this world!!! Then second, diving into the pool at the Resort...bliss. keep in mind i was in PV mid July. Just loved it. Places I recommend eat and to enjoy the scene: Café Angeles Tacos revolution for the vegetarian La Palapa El Dorado River Café Emmpanadas Connie Cafe de Olla Panchos tacos Other taco stands by the Farmacia Guadalajara And of course the resturant at Marcela Resort

I just finished a five night stay at Marcela and couldn't have been more impressed. The grounds are absolutely immaculate (the pictures do it absolutely no justice). The rooms are tastefully decorated. Plus - the staff are so incredibly kind and willing to go above for you. I hate to write this review because this is such a well kept secret right now but credit is definitely due to the folks at Marcela! Can't wait to return!!

Was a truly perfect experience. From the service, to the pools, to the amenities, to the most gorgeous and lush gardens ever, this is one of the best places we have ever stayed at. We only wish we had more time! One of a kind gem that we will definitely be returning to. Thank you to all the wonderful staff and nosotros regresaramos! Mucho gusto!

The Marcela Resort & Spa is a fantastic place to stay. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The on-site Spa is very nice and allows you to relax and be close to the pool or your room after receiving a massage or other treatment. The restaurant at the hotel offers high quality food to go along with beautiful plate presentation. We loved our room 4B. It had plenty room of space for two and included two air conditioners and a washer & dryer. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub as well. They provided coffee & bottled water, which was extremely appreciated. I've stayed at some expensive five star hotels that didn't include either, so the little things can be greatly appreciated and make a difference in your stay. Spending a lot of time at the pool, the service and drinks were top notch. It was fun getting to know our bartender and all the employees we spoke with. I love the intimacy of the resort, being away from the crowds. It's such a quick walk downtown or taking an Uber down and then back up is easy. We had a party of seven with several different rooms rented to celebrate my best friends 40th Birthday. I'm greatful he found this hidden gem. It was a wonderful time and I believe we will be returning to Marcela every year.

Best place to stay in the area, very relaxing place with super friendly staff. The dining experience is delicious with super tasty food for good pricing and portion sizes. Drinks are really great here too. The ATV tours are really fun. The rooms are very clean and decorated nicely. The way the staff treat you here is amazing, they really welcome you and make the stay truly special. The pools are the perfect temperature and crystal clear. Definitely recommend this place to everyone. The rooms are very comfortable, and the wifi is very fast. It is very close to the beach.

I absolutely loved staying at the Marcela. Quiet sanctuary up on the hill. Traditional Mexican colonial architecture. Huge room and open layout, you can leave the windows open and the cool breeze comes in at night. Loved the restaurant and the staff - Fabian and crew learned my favorites immediately. Nice gym and pools. Easy walk down to Zona Romantica on the many staircases winding through town. You’re at the beach in less than 10 minute walk.

An incredible experience. The resort was completely renovated recently and is BEAUTIFUL! Frankly it’s so nice we barely left to go into town — but PV is an incredible location and feels both authentic and safe. Our villa was way beyond what we expected and loved how it’s decorated in a true Mexican theme. Staff’s fantastic! Have fun!

My recent stay at the Marcela @The Cave was nothing short of exceptional, thanks to the incredible staff who went above and beyond to make it a memorable experience. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with warm smiles and a level of hospitality that instantly made me feel at home. The reception staff were not only efficient but also incredibly friendly, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free check-in. Throughout my stay, the housekeeping team maintained the room in impeccable condition, and their attention to detail was truly commendable. The hotel's restaurant staff were a standout highlight of the trip. Their dedication to providing outstanding service, coupled with their extensive knowledge of the menu, made dining a delightful experience. They were always eager to accommodate special requests and offer recommendations that never disappointed. What truly set this hotel apart was the concierge team. Betty, Lori and especially Liz, had a wealth of local knowledge and willingness to assist with everything, from arranging transportation to suggesting the best local attractions, made our stay in the city truly unforgettable. In the end, it was the genuine warmth and professionalism of the hotel's staff that left the most lasting impression. I would highly recommend Marcela to anyone seeking a top-notch experience, and I look forward to returning soon to once again enjoy the incredible service that made my stay so wonderful.

We loved this place. The views of our third floor were fantastic. We loved the open air feel of the living room. The bedroom had its own ac which was nice as well. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful in every way. Thank you for the wonderful stay. We’ll be back again!

I’m very hesitant to write this review. I did not have a positive experience at this location. I assumed from the photos that most of the rooms were spacious and colorful. Mine was not. Extensive dust/cobwebs was visible and there were bugs painted into the walls. (A gigantic cockroach appeared out from under the bed on the last evening.) I also had issues with my food being undercooked and cold. The grounds are very beautiful. The decor is very thoughtful. The beach access is reasonable. However, I personally did not have a 5 star experience. Edit to add: Fabian, the server from the Marcelita, was very helpful and helped me find the positivity to submit this review.

Great hidden gem of a hotel with the best views in town, unfortunately staff just isn't up to par. There's no natural affection or kindness or intention to detail, or simple gestures to get to know you. TWell most of the staff anyways. That is the typical attitude towards foreigners here however. The food is so/so and portions are small. I'd recommend eating other places and saving the hotel food for convenience. Luckily the property makes up for the lack of professionalism.

I stayed here recently and would definitely stay there again. In reality I would give the resort 4.5 stars. I would take off only half a star because of issues with the room during thunderstorms. I stayed with some friends in one of the penthouse rooms. The room was spacious, beautiful, had a king bed in the room and came with a pull-out couch in the living room. More than enough to accommodate the three of us. The jacuzzi was big enough to fit four people and was plenty hot. The view of the entire city was absolutely amazing. Both bathrooms worked well and were luxurious. The A/C was very powerful, no one felt too hot in the summer weather while inside. Since we went during the rainy season, we had to contend with a couple of strong thunderstorms in the afternoon/evening. The reason I took off only half a star was because the penthouse room seems to have a leakage problem on the side of the kitchen that doesn't have an awning. Also there was a small leak in the indoor bathroom. Storms in PV don't seem to last that long, but it still made a big wet mess. If you go during times other than the rainy season then you will likely never notice this. The grounds are beautiful with pools, a sauna, a spa area, an easy walk to the nearby beach. About a scenic 20-minute walk to the more popular/partying part of the zona romantica area. Do be warned that you will have to do a significant amount of walking up hill as the resort is situated further up the mountain than the rest of the city, but this is partly what allows it to have such amazing views. All in all, it was a memorable trip at an absolutely amazing resort and I would definitely stay there again the next time I visit.

I can’t believe how lucky we were finding this boutique hotel. I don’t even know where to begin…..the staff, the rooms, the pools, the food, the location were all absolutely top notch. I travelled alone with my teens and I wasn’t sure if there would be enough for them to do and it if would be safe for them to explore around on their own. All of the staff went out of their way to make them feel right at home, safe and have fun! The food was incredible - I am still thinking about the chef’s specialty dish - the tortilla soup. Probably the best bowl I will have in my life! The rooms are massive and have such a warm, spacious and traditional feel - ours was ground level and I had no safety concerns travelling alone with teens. The view out to the landscaping and pools was unbelievable. The sunsets from the top pool is highly recommended! I really can’t imagine another resort coming close to the exceptional experience here. This boutique hotel is way more intimate than the big hotels we saw on the beach and less than a ten minute walk away. I rarely write reviews however our stay and experience was so exceptional that I felt I needed to share our experience. I can’t wait to be back!

Return visit to a newly renovated resort with a week through Interval Int. Was here about 5 years ago when in the midst of renovations and what a change! Previously only a very few staying here, sounds echoed at night, no restaurant or spa or finished suites, and difficult to get any information prior. However. currently a front office to greet and register and very responsive to any inquiries, esp. as a solo woman traveller. Like that it is quieter and in an off beat area. Steep if walking to the beach but a lower door on the property. The pools, grounds and housekeeping is immaculate. Sunday brunch at the Marcelita one of the best options. Will post more at end of stay..
