Great hotel! I stayed in a studio which had everything I needed for a week vacation. Juan was a very helpful and friendly concierge and the restaurant staff provided excellent service on the beach as well as by the pool and in the restaurant itself. Gerardo even helped us practice our Spanish on a rainy night that had us cancel our plans to head into town. The restaurant had good food from Mexican seafood to burgers and fries. The mini Market downstairs was handy to supplement our grocery items. Saw some tropical fish in the swimming area and hung out on the beach a lot. Only downside of this resort is that the gym was very small, minimal and not air conditioned so i didn't end up using it, but did in room workputs instead. Despite this, i would stay again!!

Dirty rooms, no water pressure, hot water for air 6 minutes, no wifi in 719, I was expecting allot more out of a resort. Couple in lounge warned us they got food poisoning from the restaurant. Wish I would have searched, lots of options in Puerto vallarta, great location with horrible service. Love the city not this resort

The perfect place to stay if you want a cozy, well maintained place with some history and an excellent location. Just 10 minutes from the center of town, free parking and a city bus stop right out front. The staff were all very polite, spoke good English and helpful. The breakwater creates a gorgeous lagoon ideal for snorkelling. The last hurricane did a number on the sand at the edge of the water so it's pretty much a pebble beach at the moment but I'm sure the next big storm will put it back. There were loads of fish to see in the lagoon and twice as many on the outside of the rocks tho the tide pull at the opening requires good swimming skills and fins. There were giant mantarays swimming along the rocks on the outside most days and the snorkelers and paddle boarders were able to see them up close. The pool was wonderfully warm and the pool sports bar and open deck restaurant inviting and well served. The food was delicious and portions generous. Loved that they played mexican music in the pool area and the activities staff provided fun games and entertained us well. There is a small well maintained gym with various machines and free weights at your disposal. Guests were families and retired folks, people that own property in the adjacent time share and were a mix of domestic and foreign visitors. We will definitely return.

Costa Sur Resort is a classic elegant place to stay, rich with the beauty of natural Puerto Vallarta ocean side relaxation! All rooms face the water & the sun sets make this a private paradise, your bed a front row seat to the special feature! We could hear the waves falling asleep & waking up. Our efficiency room was adorned with historic Mexican tiles, & had a spacious living area & a shower for two. We loved gazing at the crystal blue waters from the balcony. Great snorkeling there, & we bought our mask in the convenient gift store in the lobby. Saw Puffer Fish among so many other tropical beauties! The restaurant food was so delicious, with many menu options. Chilequiles was a favorite, & the presentation of everything ordered was outstanding. We were truly treated like royalty!

Beautiful location and great vibe. We miss Ivan though the event guy. He was the best. Not the same without him. Also the smell of sewage was really bad in the stairwell. The rooms are very dated and the pool chairs are all broken and stained. Seems they need an upgrade which would make a big difference.

Comfortable rooms with balcony facing the ocean. Spectacular views of the bay and beautiful lagoon for swimming. No delivery services such as Rappi, Uber Eats etc. available in the area where Costa Sur is located. Costa Sur does have a mini-market that over charges for everything. Read the small print on the back of the menu for extra fees when ordering room service. Room service was fast and the food was good. Attached photos were taken from my balcony on the 19th floor.

Really nice place to stay at. The rooms (not renovated) are nice too. The beds are really comfortable. The pool is nice and closes at a good time. The private beach there is also nice. Food is great. Shower worked great. No dislikes here!

We have stayed here 3 times now in 2 months. It is beautiful, very clean, and their restaurant is exceptional. Everything is very high quality and fresh.

Beautiful hotel with extremely friendly staff. Food at restaurant is great, too! This is the perfect place for a romantic or family getaway and snorkeling in the little cove is wonderful and views from the rooms are amazing!

Spend great time and experience at my sister's wedding. Great customer service and food. Don't let those bad reviews discourage you, rooms have been remodeled and the service is very good.

The resort is nice, people customer oriented, clean. Unfortunately the hotel beside, the Hilton, has their drain pipes to the beach right beside them so that makes it definitely not a place to enjoy the beach. Unfortunately for the Costa Sur but you can enjoy the spa and the pool, and the bar

Our recent stay was great. Very friendly service from all of the staff. Room was clean and the price was very reasonable. I loved the protected lagoon and snorkeled in there daily. There is a lot of sea life to see right at the hotel. Just follow the posted warning signs to not stand on the breakwater rocks to avoid stepping on the spiny sea urchins that cover them. The resort is not new and is a bit dated but it is a fantastic value especially in the off season.

Walking into our room I was mortified. There is a cleanliness seal as we walked in yet there was three dead bugs on the floor when I got in. Rooms look nothing like they are advertised. Advertised as a 4.8 star hotel when I would say 3 star is generous. I desperately wanted to stay somewhere else within the first hour of being here. We went into town just so we didn’t have to spend any more time at this hotel. Not close to the airport as we thought. Food was good, but hotel is extremely run down and I would never stay here again. Also had a random $65 charge when we arrived even though we thought we paid in full online before arrival. AC is loud and sealing fan makes a crazy noise so no fan could be on while sleeping. Not impressed

Internet connection was down most of the time. The phones in the room don’t work to get a hold of reception. The bedding had some sort of blood stains. The staff are friendly but the hotel as it is, not good. Overpriced!!! I highly recommend Garza Blanca or Barceló. They are in the same area but the facilities are way better-nicer a bit mor pricey but are worth the price.

Hotel is under a remodel so you have newer rooms and some not done yet. We had one not remodeled yet but it was clean and really nice. Starting to show signs of age. Staff here are exceptional! Very friendly, extremely helpful and always pleasent. I'd you are looking for a time share this should be on your list.

If you're looking for a huge beach with hundreds of people - go elsewhere (please). However, if you're looking for a quiet hotel with absolutely stunning views, this place is perfect for you! They also have a protected lagoon that is great for snorkeling. Every room has a balcony. We keep coming back for more!!!

Went with the family, two young boys. We loved the view from the room, you are basically right on the sea wall and you hear the sounds of the waves all the time. Pool was nice and heated. The beach is rocky, so bring water shoes. The tide went back basically at around noon, so the beach is unusable until then. The lagoon is GREAT for snorkeling. The service is outstanding the almost all the food we ordered was excellent. Breakfast was great as was dinner. We mostly made drinks in our room, but did a try a few of the happy hour or daily specials. Only downsides were lack of towels in the room, a stain on the sofa bed (we asked for a bed cover and they brought one) and kitchen was a bit grungy.

Our room was comfortable with a kitchen with refrigerator, great views and comfortable bed. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The best snorkeling is right at the beach at this resort. The food offered there was average so the kitchen in room is highly recommended. We found some great dinner experience close by. La Choza My Tony was the best dinner experience just a ten minute drive from the resort.

Pros: beautiful beach, quiet, decent rooms, beautiful private balconies, restaurant has decent food, housekeeping was clean, a/c worked well. We stayed in the renovated master suite, and the 1.5 bathrooms was well appreciated Cons: They tried to delay out check in almost 2 hrs, far from all the restaurants/shopping in romantic zone ($10 taxi ride one way), and beach was rocky but seems the norm here. There is only really one restaurant on site, but it’s okay. We decided on this hotel bc we came for a destination wedding. It’s a good hotel, but since we travel with a toddler, I would try a hotel walking distance to the romantic zone for convenience. Perfect hotel for those that want a quiet and relaxing hotel away from the hustle and bustle. Btw pay with pesos with taxis and it’s much cheaper!

Overall I’d say our stay was great. We were greeted by friendly staff however be weary of the immediate attempt to sell a time share. We chose to bypass this. The room was very spacious and the view was incredible. Pool was very clean and the staff were great at serving drinks and food all day. The restaurant was okay, a little pricey. We chose to eat in town for the rest of the meals. Had a hard time finding a water station however I found out that the tap water is filtered. Would have been nice to have a water station as well. I saw a lot of reviews on the AC units being loud and the rooms not clean but both were just fine. The hotel is right off a busy road so we did hear quite a bit of traffic noise at night but it’s much better than the hustle and bustle in town.

This hotel is located in south Vallarta, thus it doesn't has nearby restaurants nor malls. The view is incredible. Its private sea has a stone wall, which allows you to swim calmly without worrying about big waves. The service good. They will try to charge extra for almost everything: in my case, the hotel staff tried to charge me extra because "a 14-year old is not considered a minor for this hotel". Overall: good for the price. An excellent option if you want to be outside of the main Vallarta. Peaceful and quiet.

We have gone to Costa Sur Resort every year for the past five years, less one. We have always enjoyed staying here as it is close to Puerto Vallarta via Uber, Taxi or the bus. The rooms are older but comfortable and view is outstanding. What really makes it great staying there is the staff. We have always had the most amazing wait staff around the pool with Alejandro standing out above the rest. He truly makes our vacation time relaxing and even works with us on improving our Spanish. Thanks Alejandro for always welcoming us home.

This was a nice place to stay. Very close to town. The staff was very friendly. Our room had a beautiful ocean view. Food was good but I prefer my meals heat hot not room temperature.

This hotel was completely misrepresented in the web site. This should have been rated a 2 and not a 4.3. I was very disappointed and angry that the room had stained walls, wobbly table, broken hair dryer, non functioning stove, and over head lights and lamp all were not in working order. Only two plugs in room and one of them was behind furniture. The safe in the room didn’t have a key and we were told to get it from the desk, which felt unsafe. Because we flew in late, we had to stay the night and eat at their restaurant, poolside. Food was ok but the smell of cow/pig manure in the air was disgusting. We left the very next morning.

Nice little resort, mostly attended by Mexicans at least during the early August time period. Room with ocean view was just fine, ours had a little kitchenette and the AC worked well. Private beach was surprisingly fun, even good for snorkeling, we saw 15+ varieties of fish. Breakfast was worthwhile, fruit plate, coffee, juice, choice of typical Mexican breakfast fare. Dinner was ok, better restaurants are available in town just 5 or 10 min ride in car or bus. Staff was all very helpful. We would come back!

I won't be back!!! The rooms in the South Tower suck. The 1980's Dining room table is cracked, all the dining chairs squeak when you sit in them, refrigerator shelf is broken, main toilet was not working as the chain kept coming off, sliding door would not lock and only after the 2nd day of complaining was fixed. Then the AC was marginal when we checked in and we had to report (two days in a row) of it not functioning it got to 86 or 90 degrees in the room. There's only one 110 AC Plug in the dining area. Food is okay at best and you only get a breakfast coupon for either eggs -or- (seems like warmed up Walmart) pancakes. Be careful sitting in the covered area because bees attack you and your breakfast food, we had to ask for our food to go and eat in our room for the rest of the week. The food and bar wait staff is the highlight of the hotel. Oh did I mention we received a letter on Wednesday that they were fumigating on Thursday and need to be out of your room from 10:00AM to 3:00PM.

It's too bad about the hurricane but, over all these people tried. Restaurant at Costa Sur, employees too slow, kitchen too slow to get orders out. A waiter gave me back a twenty dollar bill because said it was fake. Really? Someone in bookkeeping does not know American US dollar! You loose. I won't be back.

We have 2 double beds with kitchette. There are two of us but comfortable for 3 or 4 people also. Most people don't spend that much time in their rooms. Nice heated pool. There are a restaurant and a grill on premises also.

Not a 3 or 4 star hotel at all. Had to stay here due to being in a wedding. They made us move rooms after our first day, and we were without a room for 5 hours. The rooms and dirty and most of the rooms ACs are “broken” per the front desk. They’ve done nothing to address any of the issues we had. The hotel is also dramatically understaffed. However, the wait staff down by the pool is absolutely incredible!!! The pool servers are about the only highlight of this resort.

Wonderful views and average service. Puerto Vallarta has so much to offer in terms of delicious foods and liveliness of the city, that I don’t think an all inclusive hotel would give a chance of full experience. If you choose a place with a nice view and close enough to the center to get there with a few dollars, you can get the best of both worlds. That’s why we stayed here and enjoyed the private beach and wonderful view.

I am writing this note as a long time owner. Costa Sur has been my favorite location for relaxation and community. I want to name Paula(massage therapist) Moises (food and beverage) and Oswaldo (waiter) and excellent in their respective areas. Paula a great manner and technique which continues to provide just what is needed for relaxation. My name is Cynthia Archer, New Jersey.

Some of the nicest staff ever! Great food, not a huge menu but very tasty and well prepared. The view was stunning. They even have their own cove, which, at low tide , you can swim out and view the ocean fish. The pool was clean and so warm, we're definitely going to book again!

Everything was so perfect but the pillows and mattresses, I have never been in jail but I bet they buy that same brand, god! I was so contracted from head to toes after two nights, I better chose a folded towel as pillow. I was surprised that my baby didn't move all night long then I found that the crib had a huge pocket in the mattress making impossible to get yo stretch or move at night, I went from anger to laugh to feel bad for her, spending the night in a mattress that seemed a hot dog bun with two wires crossed on the back, geez. On the other hand people was so nice, I really enjoyed everything till it was time to go to bed 🥴 To whoever is in charge: please, renew the bedding furniture!!!!

As honeymooners, my new bride and I had an AMAZING time at Costa Sur! Unbeatable views, gourmet food, pool and exercise facilities, good price... High recommend. The staff at the restaurant was a highlight in particular: Ernesto, Gabriela, Moises, Edgar, Raul, Juan, Erika, Alexander, Allesandro... thank you all so much for your excellent service and bright smiles! You all are the best, and we're looking forward to seeing you next time.

Upon arriving we were told that our two bedroom condo was not available as there was a water problem, ok things happen. Then we were put in two separate hotel rooms that smelled and were out dated. The following day we were moved to the Condo originally booked, as we walked into the entrance, the smell of sewer was so bad, it made my guest vomit. When attempting to get onto the elevators, we were told that they were inoperable. That we would have to walk up and down five floors. Upon entering the Condo, the smell was terrible, one room had no electricity and the furniture was 1970’s. We then asked to go back to the hotel portion as it was too not great but much better then the building with our original reservation. The following day we (all three of us) woke up to bed bug bites all over our bodies. We notified the front desk who wasn’t fazed as if the bed bugs was the norm. We all went to the doctor in Mexico and was diagnosed with bed bug bites and given medication. On another note the staff were great, nice and friendly and the food was good, view nice, but property was horrific!

“Due to a very unexpected A/C system failure” We booked a 1 bedroom unit, months in advance, to stay at the Costa Sur for a week, starting September 8 2022. We received an email on the afternoon of September 7th stating, “Due to a very unexpected A/C system failure in that building, we need to provide you with a different size of unit for your visit. “ We had already commenced our travels, what could we do! Upon arrival at Costa Sur, it become apparent that rather than “a very unexpected A/C failure”, the entire building containing 1 and 2 bedroom apartments was closed during offseason and we were reassigned to a studio in another building. Their “solution” to the problem was to provide 2 studio units, some distance apart. This was totally unacceptable. If you look at other reviews, you will see that this is a common “problem”. I understand that it may not be economically feasible to run 2 separate buildings during offseason, but if that is the case, do not sell units that are unavailable. The blatant dishonesty was unacceptable and we checked out the next day. On the positive side, the Costa Sur is a very laid back resort, not at all "americanized" If you want to sit by a pool, enjoy stunning views of the ocean, eat good food and nothing else, this is the place to be. Don't go for the snorkelling at the private beach. The area was very limited and closed while we were there, it is only accessible at low tide. As the tides come all the way up to the concrete wall of the resort, the “beach” may consist of only rocks, no sand and is very weather dependant. Don't go for the gym facilities.

Rooms are not as advertised. Very old. The resort itself is rundown and needs maintenance. At most it should be listed as a 3 star hotel, so manage your expectations. Pretty much a large motel 6 with a view and a rocky beach. We left as soon as we checked in just to not be on property more than we had to. Staff was nice and the food was okay :)

My first time in Puerto Vallarta and Costa Sur was such a beautiful & cozy place to stay. The view and location are stunning. The lagoon and beach need some renovation, but there's always a taxi on standby and the proximity to Oldtown makes it very accessible to explore. Shoutout to Ernesto for being the best waiter!

This quaint hotel is one we keep coming back to for more than 20 years. With the bus stop across the we can come and go: to downtown, the zoo, botanical gardens even Saluita without the cost of a taxi. The lagoon provides a safe view for the tropical fish that live in there as you float or snorkel in the warm (October) water. The spa is reasonable and professional. Many of the staff have been there for over 25 years and they seem to take pride in maintaining Costa Sur.

I enjoyed the hotel very much. Got to see a whale right outside the window first thing in the morning, as well as several mantis patrolling nearby. The Hotel definitely needs some attention. Slightly run down and would be amazing with a modern update. Didn’t expect much from the food but it turned out to be excellent. Definitely worth going if you can get a good deal.

Costa Sur is absolutely lovely. We chose a non-all-inclusive package and we don't regret it! The resort is a bit out of the city, but easily accessible by bus or taxi. We rented a car so we can drive the beautiful coast. The resort pool(s) are warmer than we expected, a lovely surprise that makes night swimming so much fun. The wave break in the ocean is functional and pretty. Not much beach at the resort, but there are public beaches everywhere so don't be discouraged. Resort is very clean, and we didn't see any bugs/insects in places they shouldn't be. Our room had full kitchen/stove to cook, which was surprisingly a lot of fun and romantic. We would love to come back. The view from our balcony was spectacular. (Photo attached)
