Wattle Bay Reserve

Park Nature preserve

👍👍 Beautiful area, peaceful and mostly shaded except along the Sylvania Ave-Himalaya Reserve section, of course. Easy uphill & downhill walks; took me an hour to stroll from the entrance on Canberra Avenue to the exit through Manukau Domain on Halsey Drive. People often mention walk, beach, entrance,

. (01/2018) An amazing beach in the middle of Wattle Bay Reserve. There is no direct drive-in entrance or dedicated parking. One can enter to this beach either walking straight from the entrance of Wattle Bay Reserve or while following Waikowhai Walkway which passes through this beach. This beach is quite well spread most of which is covered with shells. The views around are surreal. There is big low tide walk area looping all the easy back to Waikowhai Walkway and to the beautiful Wattle Bay Lookout. Seating and benches are provided at regular distances in different directions at this location as well as all the way from Wattle Bay Reserve entrance. Couple of viewpoints with dedicated viewing areas and seats can be found around the beach. There is dedicated but limited parking area only at Wattle Bay Reserve entrance where wheelchair parking is available and there is wheelchair accessible entrance. Could not spot any public restrooms in plain view at this location.

Muddy beach but very quiet. When the tide is out the beach goes on right along the coast.

Great for evening walks but it's a bit wild as some parts are damaged by the floods

Great place to let your dog run around freely, my baby enjoyed it so much that he didn't want to leave. LOL ! definitely going to take him there regularly 👍

Despite the fact you're in a busy suburb, this reserve makes you feel miles away. Such an amazing piece of nature that suddenly makes you feel like you're deep in the bush. Amazing native plants and animals around. If you walk down to the coast, there are a number of small, secluded beaches. Really peaceful and beautiful place!

The recent cyclone did it's work, some parts are closed, the walkway is not an easy walk due to some fallen trees and slips, but most parts are still secure. Can't reach the water tho, road closed.

Hit a quick hour long walk and it was beautiful. Very well preserved path. Something fun and outdoorsy to do if your burning time near the airport.

Lovely walk through bush to get to a lovely beach reserve. Not as well developed as Lynfield Cove but just as beautiful.

Solidarity! It’s a spot a bit difficult to find the entry way . To reach the beach- you need to walk down stairs through the garden which is a wonderful pathway. Beach is dirty and not a place to have good gathering. Way up back is pretty tiring for elderly and children. Localities are wonderful.

Yes was great to see workmen fixing the walkway, however I almost slipped up due to loose gravel.

This is one of our local spots, handy for an impromptu picnic, quiet and secluded. Unfortunately the bay is still in a shambles post 2023 flooding and cyclone. The grounds are very overgrown and swampy so there was nowhere really to sit. The path has had minor repairs but caution is recommended.
