Very detailled replica of a drug user, as seen in the photo. Movie was very exciting, mainly because of the sound effects.

Remarkable to learn how different cultures adapt to their environment and use the available resources. The idea that you can build a floating island, rebuild or relocate as necessary makes settlement fluid and flexible. Absolutely stunning location, yet you'd need to be super resilient to deal with high altitude and extremes in temperature.

Really cool museum! Everything is in spainish as well as English, 20 soles per person is a bit steep, but I thought it was worth it

Worth the visit! Our tour had us visit for two hours. During this time the president of the island (population 25 :)) gave us a detailed explanation of how the island was constructed with reeds (see picture). When big boats would go by you could observe how the island would gently sway in the waves of the lake! It felt very safe but a bit surreal. The families were very nice and even showed us how their homes and church were built. Please keep in mind that the islands are very dependant on tourism to subsist! This is a double-edge sword. You see how many things are catered to tourists but you also have to recognize that this is how the Urus are able to maintain their culture! Visit with an open mind and do try to purchase souvenirs that will help support the community. As is the case in most of Peru, be sure to bring S1 for the restrooms! ;)

This is sadly just a major tourist trap now. Whatever they used to be, now it is pandering to foreigners and travelers. You can't even really say at least you see the lake, as you don't go out very far. If you do go, don't take a tour. Just book a collectivo at the docks.

Unique experience. You get an introduction on how these little reed islands were constructed. This is a community relying on fishing and tourism. A nicely made table runner sells for 80 soles after a bit of haggling. At the airport, a similar one costs over 250 soles. The group will be divided into smaller ones, you will then get invited to have a look at their homes, you can take pictures, after that the locals will sell you their assorted products. We had the optional reed boat ride for 10 soles each. Cash only when you're there. Each little island will have their opportunity to welcome tourists and sell their products.

The overall landscapes and the 2 minutes of explanations about how the islands are build can be interesting. Don't pay to go there though, since it will probably be a mandatory stop if you go to Amantani or Taquile. The main purpose is to make your buying things there. Hard to make the difference between the natural and the artificial : People claim that they live there, but other information say the opposite.

(Translated by Google) Lake Titicaca, the highest in the world, in a region called Puno, is located on the island of Uros. A group of people with a unique life, live on islands built artificially with titira, a kind of reeds that grow in the waters of the lake. Ancestral knowledge transmitted from generation to generation, ranging from the construction of the floating islands themselves, as well as the construction of houses and boats, all made with the same ecological material. The women dressed in multicolored clothes, receive the visitors in a friendly manner, offering textiles made by themselves. The dragon head design boats are so eye-catching and you have the privilege of being able to sail in them rowing. For the rowers are themselves, the aurochs who sing happily as they advance in coordinated rowing. It is my true privilege to visit this unique place in the world. (Translated by Google) These islands are inhabited by the Uros, one of the oldest cultures on the continent which dates back to times before the Incas. The inhabitants of this floating community claim to own the waters of Lake Titicaca. The subsistence of the Uros community is based on fishing and hunting; They are also dedicated to the production of woolen tapestry fabrics and the stuffing of animals It is very interesting to see the social structure, how they solve their differences, which in severe cases consist of splitting the reed island and the inducers must be separated from the rest.

(Translated by Google) For me it is too touristy an approach. They sell you what once was. That it must have been wonderful, but it is no longer. However, they try to deceive you by saying that it is so. On the other hand, I ended up with the feeling that someone exploits the need of many people without any scruple or serious regulation. So many descendants are used and perhaps ridiculed by dramatizing something that does not represent a current reality and that departs from the true culture and historical identity of the Uros Islands.

(Translated by Google) The landscape is beautiful, as a walk to observe the floating islands is very good. However it shows that they have lost their own customs and it is already very commercial. They pressure you to buy and that is not bad considering that they need sources of income, but it loses authenticity, since it is perceived that it is not so interesting to explain their culture but to sell.

Interesting museum with the history of coca, its historical and modern day uses, including instructions on how to process the leaves to obtain cocaine and crack. The tour starts with a short video, English and Spanish. On the top floor there are costumes, which you can also try on and have a photo taken. Entrance fee is 10 Soles.

A great small museum in the heart of Puno where you can learn about the traditional uses of the coca leave and it's place in the Peruvian history. Even more interestingly, you can see examples of the different costumes and dances that are part of the folklore of the region. The museum owner can tell you a lot about local traditions and how they are celebrated today. Highly recommend visiting this museum while in Puno!

Super ingesting museum where you can understand how important was and is coca for the andean culture. Also you learn about other interesting historical facts as well as the properties and benefits of coca for the human body. If it wasn't enough two engaging and more contemporaneous topics as how is cocaine made and the origin of coca cola. Last but not least an explanation and exhibition of different dances and costumes of the andean's folklore

It’s a small three floor museum. Mostly boards show the Coca culture and history. But plenty of information. Third floor is display major costume for Puno area dances. I was welcomed heartedly. When I got to the third floor the museum staff tried to let me know that I could choose one set of the displayed costume to try on. She also took pictures for me with my cellphone. The Isla Flotantes was fascinating and gives an insight as to how people live and how they continue to maintain these islands. The trip takes you out of the city to experience a very different lifestyle, if only for a brief moment. We travelled from Puno by boat across to the islands which doesn't take long (40mins or so) The islanders are friendly and welcoming and show you their ways of living and invite you into their homes as part of the tour and to show you around. (Translated by Google) Maybe I went with too many expectations or expecting something much more surprising, but the truth is that my experience in the Uros Floating Islands was quite poor. An absolutely make-up and soulless show, so much so that I had the impression that when night came, they took off their uniforms and went home by bus like someone leaving a boring job. The islands are several, each of them belong to small communities of 3 or 4 families that have built their rooms, kitchens and others on those structures made of reed (totoras) that float and are anchored, but that can well move from place . The island that each one plays is in luck and this has probably influenced my experience as well. The truth is that I felt badly received, as if they didn't want me to be there. The guide who received us, something like the leader of the community, gave us an initial talk where he told us more about his story, he was the only one who showed a little more charisma, but only because everything he told us had at last Sell us an excursion to other islands, more private, to spend the night there. Then they took us to see the houses. A woman from the community with very little desire showed us just where she lived and how she did it. He seemed to recite from memory a text he had already said thousands of times. Finally, they took us to their craft stalls to sell us the things they made, but always very reluctantly. In closing, we did not want to go to the island as the "capital" officer of the complex because it had a cost, so we decided to wait on the island for the tour to end and we came to find the rest of the contingent. But it was not like that. They insisted so much, but so much, that we got on the boat that really was an ordeal and we had to go up to meet it. The capital island has some places to eat, a couple of places to sleep, but the same sadness that we saw in the others. I repeat, it was probably my one-off experience, but I would not recommend it. I am convinced that a few years ago it had magic and warmth, today it is a bland and soulless show that does not justify the investment.

(Translated by Google) A summary of what tourism can do worse. Showing their "way of life" has become their way of life. You are drawn into an ultra-scripted visit where each interaction is an excuse to get paid. The result is a visit where you feel uneasy from start to finish, interacting with people whose life is to be a tourist attraction. To avoid absolutely. A éviter absolument.

Good, if you like being guilted out of your money. The community is definitely just for touristic pleasure. It is so obvious that the people don't live on the islands. It is most definitely a Tourist Trap - We went there on an afternoon out of interest for the way the islands are built and maintained: Instead we got a theme park with child labour: Children doing their families bidding and begging for money. Grotesquely persistent "island people" trying to sell you rugs and other textiles produced in mass on the main land. But enough is not enough. These people are not thankful for the money the tourists bring - They are not reliant on the money from the "artesanal goods" to buy medicine as they claim - An absolutely appalling thing to insinuate by the way! It would be better if they would just speak truth and say that nobody lives on the islands anymore and it is all just theater to keep what was once real alive - A spark of honesty might just help save this increasingly unpopular attraction. Word of mouth amongst travelers is already very negative. Bad news travels fast.

Wonderful local experience 😍 Yep, the best way to get in touch with local communities. They talk to you in their language (Then translating it too), explain how they live and built their home, invite you incide their houses and lend you some clothes to try on ! I even talk at the end with a mother and daughter and the girl told me she was studying to become a tour guide. Yaas! Another colleage 😊
