I had zero expectations coming in here. Some family friends invited us. The service started off great. The waitress was loud and clear, in a good way. But once she got our orders, that was it. She disappeared. Appetizers and first round of drinks arrived timely. Second round of drinks was slow. Main course was even slower. By the time it arrived, we weren’t hungry. My girlfriend and I had ordered the highly recommended tomahawk steak special for two. It was huge. So it was hugely disappointing to take a bite and find it had zero flavor. It was also super fatty and hard to cut. I’m no steak expert so I’m not sure what the problem was, but I can safely say it was one of the worst steaks I’ve had in my life. My girlfriend said her steak at Outback Steakhouse was 10x better. When we brought it up with the owner or manager or whoever was in the pink shirt, he shrugged it off. That’s life. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get. Except this was a $150 steak. Ouch. Their attempt to make it up to us was free desert, which we didn’t have the appetite for anyway. Left that place 10 pounds heavier for nothing. We brought that tomahawk steak home and gave it to my cat who immediately threw it up. That tells you all you need to know.

Have been here a quite a few times always for dinner. The food was very good. The drinks were good as well. The service was a little slow which the waiter apologized about. There is a bar separate from the dining room which a couple of tvs. My only real negative is that it is way too loud in there. You have to almost yell just to the person across the table. Picture a room full of people doing that you will get the idea. Need to fix the acoustics in there

We had a nice waiter. He was really personable and attentive, however the food was horrible. The seafood is not fresh, but frozen. The calamari was horrible and tasted old. We ordered tuna tartar and it was definitely not tuna tartar. I was a block of sushi tuna that you put in a poke bowl or a roll of sushi. The tuna was not fresh and tasted old as well. We then moved to dinner. I got a steak and the quality was poor. The potato taste like box potatoes and the squash was tasteless. I did not eat it. My friend got the salmon which also tasted gross, frozen and not fresh. We both did not eat our food. We did not complain about it and paid the 120 dollar bill. It was the biggest waste of money. For dessert we had the cheesecake. Now that was fantastic. We ordered coffee with it and that was watered down and did not taste great either. Finally the owner stopped by the table. He is such a wonderful guy. If this review was based on just service it would be a 10/10! Even the buss staff were charming, funny and kind. So thought I don’t recommend eating here, I did have a nice service experience.

The Char Steakhouse & Bar is an amazing upscale and great quality steakhouse house chain restaurant that offers guests superbly made steak and seafood cuisine in a warm and cozy setting. In November of 2023, I brought and treated my wife and myself for dinner at the Char Steakhouse & Bar, specifically the branch based in Mahopac, NY, and we had a wonderful dining experience!!! We were kindly welcomed and warmly treated by the restaurant’s staff and we were provided with the best table in the restaurant, one closely located to the fireplace. Our server, Nikki H treated us with impeccable customer service by providing us with a detailed overview of the menu options and specials and carefully noting our meal selections. She also routinely checked with us to see if we were enjoying our meals. We give a huge two thumbs up to the service provided by Nikki H. In addition to enjoying our service, both my wife and I absolutely loved our meals and found that it was perfect cooked, seasoned and unbelievably tasty and delicious!!! My wife ordered and enjoyed her steak based entree while I ordered and loved my burger based entree. It was unquestionably one of the best meals we’ve ever had!!! My wife and I highly recommend for everyone to visit and dine at Char Steakhouse!!! We are confident that you’ll have a great dining experience!!!

First time!!! We live an hour away but always drive by when visiting my mom. Well I can’t stop thinking about my dinner and already spoke to my mom and mother in law about going with me next time! Like tomorrow 🤣 I had a special tonight called Tomahawk rib eye and I can’t stop saying how amazing it was!!! Niki our waitress was also amazing!!!!! Can not wait to go back!!!!!!

Greeted well.Came to table for drink order quickly. Nice menu.Delicious food choices Steak cooked perfect. Great service. Delicious dessert. Owner very nice. Busy dining room and bar made for a great experience. Was with two special friends. Definitely will go again.

I'm going to begin with our server Mike. He did a fantastic job describing the dishes and specials. My steak however was a little over done but beautifully seasoned. There's a very large fireplace that will no doubt give great ambient lighting during winter months. All in all we will be returning with the family later this year when the fire place is on asking for Mike to be our server.

Great spot for Steak! Drinks are delicious and the services is on point! Nikki and Mikey are such great servers! Have gone like 8 times already.

Great place, amazing food, amazing service. The steak was prefectly cooked, and the bacon appetizer was really good. The outside seating area is really nice too. Great date spot or just a have a really good meal.

Just wow! The Potterhouse steak for two was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and the sides were a good size. Started seated outside but the mosquitoes were as hungry as I was! They quickly accommodated us inside which was great. The staff was attentive and didn’t rush us.

everyone told me Char was overpriced but I was pleasantly surprised to see that’s not true at all. Me and my dad came in on weds and they have a great prime rib special and their portions are quite generous. Atmosphere is a little stiff but that’s all westchester/putnam. Old school steakhouse vibes but clean and updated. The place filled up quickly while we were eating but the service was great and Jessica obviously knows what she’s doing , props to u sis. Also the busboys are attentive and very sweet. I’m not a huge steak person but it’s nice for a family meal. I had the Panko crusted mahi mahi and it was no lie the size of an ellios pizza. Showstopper was the wedge salad. Best one I’ve ever had. The owner came by and it’s always nice to see them in the crowd, they definitely CARE, which is pretty rare nowadays. I’ll come back with more carnivorous friends sometime.

Took my family out to celebrate my oldest sons 40th birthday. Very disappointed to say the least. Service was horribly slow. Two of our meals were cooked way too much. Both ordered the steak sandwich with the steak medium rare but got them well done. They offered to re-make them but already waited almost two hours for our meals so they ate them as is rather than wait any longer. Our dirty dishes sat forever in front of us and were not removed from the table in a timely fashion. Had to ask for refills on water and drinks. On top of this, not our waiter but one of the staff, dumped a glass of ginger ale down my daughter-in-laws back. The owner did offer his card in case she wanted to get her clothes cleaned but that was all. While I know this is common practice with larger groups but a 20 percent gratuity was automatically added to our bill. This left a very sour feeling in my gut as the service sucked! Won't see me in there again.

Last night was our first time at Char since moving to the area. My husband and I went for my birthday. We cannot wait to go back! Nikki was our server and she provides the best service we’ve ever experienced. She has the most fun, sweetest personality, made helpful recommendations, and really made our night. Can’t say enough about her! Makes sense why she has been there for 10 years, and clearly still loves her job and interacting with guests! Food was excellent and reasonably priced for a steakhouse. We had a porterhouse and tomahawk special. We will be back soon!! Can’t wait to try more items on the menu. Thanks for a memorable evening!
