Love the temple next to the water. Shops close by and food provider by the ananthanam. Looked after by the local people and the prayer is done by the local people not by a priest.

Revered as Sella Katirkāmam of the North, Selva Sanniti Murukan Temple at Thondaimanaru is situated about twenty miles north of Jaffna. Here too, as at Katirkamam, a free non-agamic environment for worship pervades the place, persons of various creeds and castes congregate here for darshan of the Vel installed at this blessed cannitānam (Celva Canniti). The waters of Thondaimanaru, a tîrtham where freshwater flows into the sea past the site, elevate the location to a sthalam, blessed with the triple adjuncts of tîrtham, sthalam and mūrti. This waterway is said to have been excavated under the supervision of Karunakara Thondaiman. He was sent here for procurement of salt supplies, by Kulatunka Colan, who reigned in South India from 1070 to 1118 A.C. The temple by the side of the newly cut waterway would have been the place of worship of this settlement that got founded in the locality. The temple however suffered the fate of devastation, like all other Hindu temples, in the hands of the foreigners of the 16th century. At this stage, the story shifts to one Kadirkamar, a keen devotee of Murukan, who proceeded to bewail to Katirkamam, and was rewarded there with the gift of a silver Vel . He brought this sacred Vel and installed it in a madam at the sacred site, performed daily pujas to it. Later, he was permitted to use the temple, which he took over. He and his group have been managing and officiating ever since, with piety and satisfaction to all devotees. A few yards from this temple you can find a food print of Marshal Veerapaku Therar who worshiped Lord Murugan with a Vel. Daily poojas are conducted 3 times a day Morning 8.00a.m 5 times poojas are conducted on Fridays and on special days.

It is a beautiful temple, in the surroundings there are shops of various products. Gurus live in the temple. There are many street dogs living in the temple area, also puppies in a very poor state of malnutrition and health. There are people without resources living around the temple as well. The temple is a bit lacking in cleanliness and maintenance. The art that he has in all his works is impressive. Behind the temple there is a large surface of water, and views of the area. It is sad to see local animals and people in such poor living conditions.

Kathirgama padayatra starts tomorrow from Selvasannadi Murugan temple in Jaffna! Devotees from Selvachannidhi Murugan Temple, Jaffna, are ready to go on a padayatra, as is the tradition of the traditional Hindu pilgrimage to Kathirgam. Like last year, this year also hundreds of devotees are ready to go for Padayatra under the leadership of Jayavel Swamy. This holy padayatra covering 815 kilometers in 46 days and covering 98 temples in 46 days is considered to be the longest distance Kathirkampadayatra in Sri Lanka. This Padayatra, which has been taking place for the last 23 years with the tradition of Saivism, reaches Kathirkamat at the Kathirkamakkanthanalaya Kodiyerathanam. Mohanswamy will formally hand over the velayut to Kathirgama padayatra leader Jayavelsamy after the special puja which will be held in the morning of 06th May at Sannadi. The padayatra which starts next will reach Varappalai Kannakai Ammanalayam and from there the padayatra will be held again with hundreds of devotees who usually travel in Jayavelsamy team. Jayavelsamy, leader of Padayatra, said that all the permissions for Padayatra have been received as usual. Kathirgama Adivelvizha Utsavam. Meanwhile, the Kannikal or Pandal Cal planting ceremony for the Kathirgama Adivel Festival is going to be held on the 6th of May. Therefore, it is reported that the flag hoisting ceremony will take place on June 19th and the funeral procession with Esalaperahara will take place on July 4th. In any case, the final decisions regarding the opening of the forest path, the final decisions related to the festival period, Perahara, will be decided in the main meeting to be held under the chairmanship of the Monaragala district government president. padayatra In 1972 American Muruga devotee Bhikharigan started the Kathirgama Padayatra as an organized group. Subsequently, when he retired in 1978, he handed over the work he had carried to Velsamy Maheswaran from Karaideeva. Since then, Padayatra has been held under the leadership of Velsamy for 21 years. Jayavelsamy has been involved in this work for the last two years. Initially it featured out of disgust. However, it is significant that the pilgrimage started from Sannidhi in 2012 after the peace of the country. -Thanks-

We arrived close to noon so it was hot which made it difficult to walk on the hot sand. We were able to witness a wedding taking place there. We also had the oppurtunity to sit for the linch services which is free. They only serve vegetarian food. The place we had to sit and wasn't the most hygenic and would not help the appetite of some of you. But it's free foods, whiners can go and eat someplace else. There are plenty of small shops around the place including several ice cream places as well.

It's a historical Murugan temple that is known for its unorthodox pooja system. The pooja is conducted by the temple owners themselves. The holy pool is a significant resource for local agriculture, and visitors can also take a holy bath there. However, please be cautious as there have been instances of crocodiles in the pool. While it's already mentioned in Tamil, if you are a tourist, please be aware of this potential issue.

A Hindu temple that is very simple but very powerful to the believers of the Hindu God Murugan. It has a contrasting environment to the Nallur temple. In the Nallur temple, the Hindu God Murugan is treated as a king, so the surroundings and the temple are rich in everything. On the contrary, the Murugan resembles himself as a God of simple/ ordinary people in Sannithy.
