In
2016,
I
was
sent
by
my
pulmo
from
a
clinic
to
the
emergency
room
with
an
emergency
note
for
suspicion
of
PE
-
pulmonary
embolism
(life-threatening
blood
clots
in
the
lungs)
and
a
request
for
immediate
CT
angiogram
with
contrast.
Prior
to
that,
she
phoned
fellows
to
accommodate
me
immediately
under
charoty
because
we
didnt
have
a
cash
on
hand
for
the
CT
(I
was
recently
hospitalized).
I
might
die
if
I
dont
get
immediate
diagnosis
and
treatment.
When
we
rushed
there,
I
was
ECG'd
then
ignored
for
more
than
two
hours.
The
doctor
that
I
kept
approaching
said
that
they
will
start
everything
from
scratch,
cbc,
xray,
and
evauluation
if
I
really
needed
the
CT,
because
"it's
expensive."
And
all
my
tests
should
start
once
a
DSWD
approves
my
request.
I
was
horrified.
I
looked
around
and
a
bunch
of
semi-conscious
patients
are
overflowing
with
no
beds
and
ventilation
to
accommodate
them.
I
might
have
PE,
I
told
her.
Time
is
of
the
essence
here.
She
looked
at
me
stonely
and
said
(despite
my
doctor's
note)
that
I
dont
look
like
I
have
one
because
I
could
"talk."
She
was
rude
and
argumentative.
And
I
asked,
"Kung
may
pera
kami
ngayon,
aasikasuhin
nyo
ako?"
She
nodded.
With
disgust,
we
booked
a
Grab
all
the
way
back
to
Cardinal
Santos
Medical
Center
ER,
two
hours
wasted
again
in
Friday
night
traffic,
not
knowing
whether
I'd
live.
At
CSMC,
they
read
the
note.
And
gave
me
a
d-dimer
test,
and
when
it
came
back
sky-high
positive,
I
was
instantly
administered
with
antiocoagulants.
I
had
three
blood
clots.
If
I
stayed
for
another
hour
at
the
PHR,
I
wouldnt
probably
be
alive
right
now
