Care was sub par to say the least. Went in for infant (7 weeks) with fever. We got back quickly thanks to our pediatrician fast tracking us. The nurses could not get a stick on my baby and seeing him in pain was too much for me to allow them to keep trying. The attending was not happy with us for not wanting to cath our son to rule out UTI and was a bit rude with how he spoke to us about it. I opted for a catch bag (after doing my own research) and although a sample was caught he refused to culture it. While I understand it is a higher risk for contamination, it can rule it out if negative and warrant further investigation if positive, not useless. None of the nurses were confident in cathing my intact son without retracting his foreskin (which causes damage). Everyone here needs more infant training and education on proper intact care for newborns.

Had to take our 4 week old in due to a fever. Everything was fast paced, from check in to getting a room, getting treatment, and test results. Our nurse, Amanda was wonderful! She was very knowledgeable, made us feel comfortable and at ease every step of the way. Dr. Saad spent time talking to us and reviewing everything. We were very impressed with our experience and would recommend anyone to go here for pediatric emergency needs.

This morning at 2 am I took my5 year old daughter to be seen for ear pain as she woke up crying and eyes and face swelling. We felt the Doctor who attended her did not really want to see her at all. Even the nurses. We have been here several times before but this is the first time we felt if they just wanted to get rid of us. With my daughter crying and had fever, they said nothing much is wrong just common cold and no infection; just give Tylenol and Motrin. As parents we both felt strongly she had an infection and needed more attention but we were not heard. Just told us to follow up with primary care doctor. When we saw the primary care later today we were told that she had infection with complications that damaged her ear drum which is why her ears are hurting. The tests that were done revealed flu-A. I am very disappointed with the attending doctor and her assistant at WakeMed Children’s ER this morning. With the amount of money we get charged for each visit I expect to get better service. If not above and beyond like others doctor’s and nurses should do their job at a minimum.

Highly recommend! Had a great first experience for my 4 year old and me as a mama! From check-in to discharge, and everywhere in between, all of the staff was very kind, knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. They listened to and addressed ALL of our concerns. Would not hesitate to go back again! Shout-out to Dr. Lopez for his kid friendliness and providing such great care and education for us! Top notch!

We had to take my daughter who was 2 weeks old at the time to the ER after calling the nurse line at our pediatrician. We went in around midnight going into a Sunday. She had rapid breathing which is concerning at such a young age. We were dismissed by the nurses and PA as being stupid for bringing our daughter in as everything else was okay (temp, eating normal, etc). The PA we had didn’t even put hands on my daughter and said her breathing rate was normal just by looking at her while she was wrapped in a blanket in my arms. The test for flu/covid/RSV came back negative so they sent us home and told us to see our pediatrician the following day for a follow up. Went to our pediatrician where the Dr actually put hands on her and listened to and watched her breathing and concluded she did in fact have rapid breathing and told us to go back to the ER and insist we get Xrays done. We did go back and had a better experience this time since our pediatrician told them we were coming and that she was concerned. X-rays came back clear, so they concluded it was a viral bug she had. All that to say we have to pay $400 in copays when one of the times the bare minimum was done. I contacted patient relations just to be told the request to not have to pay the $200 for the awful visit was declined. If this doesn’t show that all the healthcare industry cares about is money I don’t know what does. All I have to say is I learned you have to fight for your child with all it takes to be taken seriously.

We had a great experience at this emergency room (if one can have such a thing at a hospital with their kids.) I took my 2.5 year olds twins for extreme nausea and vomiting and inability to hold anything down. We were in a room in 10-15 minutes from check-in. The doctor came in super quick after that, examined them, and came up with a plan. This childrens ER is well run and clean. It’s farther from our home, but worth the drive for the shorter wait!

Good day I hope all is well. I took my son here on Christmas Day around noon. They were packed, he had cut his finger peeling potatoes for Christmas dinner… I felt like we were being treated unfairly at first because they put us behind so many people then I realized that they were babies. Finally we get a room in the back and we’re waiting for the doctor by now all of us are starting remember we were in the middle of fixing dinner I would have been ok but my son hadn’t ate all day it seemed like we would have been here awhile I need to find him some food. I looked all over the pediatrician hospital they don’t have a vending machine smh.. THERE COMES A WONDERFUL LADY DRESSED IN RED AND OFFERING FOOD TO MY SON FROM THE GUESS LOUNGE it was a simple lunch combo sandwich chips drink and a wedge of cheese however it was the perfect meal to hold him over…..THANKS NURSE ANDRA FOR JUST BEING COMPASSIONATE TO OTHERS- DWATIZ

Last Monday night, my 6 year old was jumping on the bed, fell off, and cut her head. We headed to the nearest Emergency Room, which was so crowded we didn't even walk in. We went to the next nearest emergency room, and after we registered we learned there was a 6 hour wait. We knew we couldn't keep our child there until after 3am, so we walked out and headed to Wake Med Children's Emergency Department, where we were ushered into a treatment room within 20 minutes of arriving. The care we received was nothing short of exceptional. My daughter met a child life specialist (Lyndsey) who explained in non-threatening and child-friendly language exactly what would happen. She was given coloring pages to distract her while we waited for her provider to come in and stitch her wound closed. The encouragement she received from the care team gave her the confidence to be brave through the whole process, and at the end of the night she even said she had fun. I hope we do not have to go through this process again, but if we do, Wake Med Children's Emergency Department will be our first stop, not our third.
