Such a beautiful, unique experience at The Store. Feels like a true getaway. From access to onsite parking, to the great resources from the host, & the a fantastic stock of inventory in the room, this was a hit for our overnight stay. Bed was ULTRA comfy & the shower is so cool. Great stay from top to bottom. Safe, clean, & cozy. Walkable as well!

My girlfriend and I decided to book a room (we stayed in the main suite) at THE STORE for our vacation to Raleigh after being wowed by all the glowing reviews— and for once the reviews were on the nose! Our stay was 5 stars from the moment John met us at door, to the moment we handed in our room key. John himself is part gracious host and part reputable travel agent. We had never visited town before, and John provided us with a bevy of local recommendations that made the trip truly unforgettable. John resides on location, but privacy is readily available after he welcomes you onto the property. Even before considering the fantastic accommodations, John’s kindness, courteous hospitality, and surefire recommendations make The Store a must-stay location. During our 3-night stay, this charming respite very quickly felt like a home away from home for us! By check out time, we were overcome by homesickness for THE STORE. Hands down the best stay we’ve ever had, and we’ll certainly be booking again when we come back and visit!

We booked a stay at The Store for a getaway weekend. We wanted a different feel opposed to boring hotel rooms and overpriced airbnbs. We couldn't have been more satisfied with our stay. John was a wonderful host, excellent communication, and top tier recommendations. The location of the house is perfect walking distance to numerous restaurants and bars. We stayed for 3 nights in the room with the detached bathroom. John has thought of every little thing that could make the stay more welcoming and enjoyable. Can't say enough positives. Stop your search and book here, you won't regret it!

I stayed at The Store for one night a few weeks ago, and my only regret is that I couldn't stay for longer. John was a very attentive, affable host - he gave me so many local food recommendations that I am going to have to come back to Raleigh just to try them all. My room was bigger than my first apartment - comfortable, but strangely practical and beautiful. Though I did not have time to enjoy them, the garden and the patio area were inviting. In the evening, I snuck downstairs to the common area and worked by lowlights, listening to jazz. It was one of the most productive writing sessions I've had in a long time. I'm looking forward to my next stay.

I can’t say enough good things about The Store! Although our stay was much too short (just passing through overnight), the service was top notch. I was impressed by the thoughtfulness of the design, hospitality, and the details. From the comfiest bed / bed sheets to the provided toiletries and snacks, John didn’t leave any stone unturned. He also provided amazing recommendations for food, drinks, and activities - so much so that we are planning a trip to come back to explore all of his recommendations (thank you!). If you have the chance to stay here, you won’t regret it!!

We spent 4 wonderful days at The Store. John pays attention to details and has created a beautiful, peaceful place that he truly wants his guests to enjoy. Everything was very clean and comfortable and John goes above and beyond to be sure you are happy. The location is perfect, within walking distance to a beautiful park and coffee shop. We will be back!

We had the pleasure of staying at The Store for one night, next time we really hope to stay longer. The minute I walked in the door I felt at peace. John has done an amazing job filling this space, it's so inviting and warm. The lower floor lobby is inspiring, the art, the way the space is used, it is so peaceful, and lovely. Our room (like the rest of The Store) was spotless. The bed was comfy, the space was quiet, and we had everything we needed. John has an eye for detail, he doesn't forget a thing, the bathroom had all the things one might forget to bring, and more! The Store is in the perfect location, near so many wonderful restaurants. We walked to a local park that was beautiful, the neighborhood is safe and very walkable. We both wished we could've stayed at least a week. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality John, and for sharing your amazing space with us, we will be back!

Celebrated our anniversary at The Store...hard to describe the incredible experience of staying here. John is such a wonderful host and so gracious, warm and hospitable. He's created such an exquisite place to stay in a wonderful part of town, He is a fountain of knowledge on places to go see, eat and things to do. His story is so interesting and his being an architect clearly shines through with the sense of calm and relaxation you feel throughout the house and property. I'd recommend the suite where we stayed...the small nook to enjoy coffee / breakfast treats and the fantastically large shower were so wonderful. The bed was incredibly comfortable. John generously provides everything you might need or may have forgotten at home. You must try this place...you won't regret it and will realize soon its an experience unlike any other!

My boyfriend and I were in town for my birthday and decided to stay a night at The Store. I’m so happy we did! As soon as you pull into the drive way it’s so welcoming and gives you an instant boost of happiness. The Store is absolutely beautiful. John was incredible and gave us so much history on not only The Store, but the location and nearby businesses. John had so many great restaurant and bar recommendations and made sure we had the best experience in Raleigh for the short amount of time that we had. We can’t wait to come back and stay longer! Thank you so much John and The Store.

I had a wonderful experience staying at The Store while in town for work. The space is a beautifully renovated old general store in a quiet neighborhood with unique and comfortable decor. It was kept very clean and provided a perfect atmosphere to relax in -- a fire going in the woodstove and jazz on the stereo system. John was incredibly welcoming and gave great recommendations to favorite local spots. I look forward to coming back and spending more time at The Store and in Raleigh.

My fiancé and I visit for New Years and could not imagine a better place to stay! The room was so stylish and comfy, and John has the best recommendations for places to check out in Raleigh. The location is just outside of downtown, so we were able to walk to most places. I cannot recommend the Store enough!

We absolutely loved our stay at this fabulous establishment. Fantastic neighborhood, within walking distance of some of Raleigh's best restaurants and entertainment. John was the perfect host, provided locations and high points of downtown Raleigh. His overall knowledge of Raleigh and the city's history wasextremely helpful and enlightening. Thanks again John.

The Store was an excellent overnight experience. John the innkeeper/owner gave us a full rundown of the eclectic culinary options Raleigh has to offer. The bed was plush and cozy. The 2 person showers were unique with blazing warm water and pressure power to spare! The interior was a delight with a modern meets eastern aesthetic that put a smile on even the most world weary traveler. I could go on but it’s onto the next haunt.

What can I say... The stay we had at The Store was amazing! John was the perfect host and very knowledgeable about great restaurants and good food. We were in walking distance of most anything we wanted to do. The Uber rides were also quick to and from The Store location. The amenities that were there were more than I could ask for, it was clean and so relaxing. I have recommended to friend and will be back.

As usual a great stay at The Store, John does a great job making you feel welcome and history lesson is always educational. The attention to detail and architecture of the home is amazing. Easy to walk to whatever you want.

We are so glad we stayed here on our trip to Raleigh! We both enjoy experiences vs generic hotels and The Store has that in spades. John was very welcoming, had an extensive knowledge of Raleigh restaurants and history, and put up graciously with my questions about architecture and the building. All of the spaces are beautiful. The room we stayed in was small, but well thought out and many amenities and toiletries were provided that exceeded my expectations. The location was pretty much "5 minutes from everything" except for a couple of wedding events that were *gasp* 10 minutes drive away. We would love to come back and just enjoy the space and Raleigh when we don't have an event to attend. Thanks John!

My wife & I feel so fortunate to have found The Store. Host and architect John Reese has created a remarkable luxury home that is so well designed and comfortable that you will regret having to leave at the end of your stay. John is a super host, who knows all the places to find interesting experiences and great cuisine. Raleigh has many charms that could otherwise elude. We look forward to returning.

We had a wonderful stay at The Store last week. John was very welcoming and gave us lots of great recommendations for things to do, see, and eat in Raleigh. The Store is in a great location and we loved being able to walk to many popular areas. We highly recommend staying here!

For the short amount of time I was in Raleigh I couldn't have asked for a better experience in terms of accommodation! John was the perfect host with so many recommendations and insights about the city's history. Even though I didn't get to take advantage since a lot of businesses were closed on Monday/Tuesdays it was still very thoughtful. The queen room is the perfect size for one person and I was pleasantly surprised at how many amenities were available (there was even a fan for white noise that I 100% took advantage of). If The Store is available the next time I'm in town it'll definitely be my first choice. Thanks John for making my first trip to Raleigh even better!

This place is a must stay if you are visiting Raleigh. It was our first time in the area and everywhere John recommended was perfect. The Store is a work of art and the room we stayed in was incredibly comfortable, we had everything we needed, thoughtful touches such as chargers next to the bed and spare toiletries. The bathroom was beautiful, shower was divine… we only wish we could have stayed longer.

Where to begin? The Store has set expectations that no other over night venue can even compare to! The hospitality, attention to detail, and overall vibe of the house was beyond anything I could ever imagine. My husband and I got a night away from the kids and I am so glad we stayed there! John is so warm and welcoming, a fountain of knowledge, and has a recommendation for whatever it is you're looking for. He was so kind in making special accommodations for us and our schedule with our children. With the slow jazz playing as soon as you walk in, the beautiful koi pond, art, and plants in the living area, the atmosphere welcomes you to relax. In the king room, the bed is so comfortable, there are built in speakers throughout the bedroom, AMAZING haircare products in the bathroom, (which by the way, the bathroom also has connecting built in speakers AND a shower the size of a bedroom with TWO shower heads, a heat lamp, A BENCH IN THE SHOWER= mind blown), the room was a LITERAL dream come true. John revitalized this historic landmark and created a wonderland with his architectural style, and it truly shows in every detail of the home. We want to make a night out for our anniversary a yearly tradition, and I never want to stay anywhere else!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend while visiting our college student. Great Alternative to staying at a pricey commercialized hotel. Quaint historic home with cool features and architecture. Amazing attention to detail. Property owner meticulously maintains this property and clearly is very kind and passionate about hosting guests. He’s a great resource if you’re looking to explore the town and this property is in a quiet residential section, but just a two block walk to all the nightlife Raleigh has to offer.

Our stay exceeded our expectations. John, our host was very gracious, friendly and helpful. The Store is an historic building that had been cleverly repurposed with wonderful architectural details. Our room had the original refinished pine plank floors, offset with contemporary furnishings, and interesting, eclectic artwork. The bathroom was stocked full of nice products, plenty of fresh towels and a huge shower. The store is in a nice neighborhood very near to downtown. We highly recommend staying at The Store and plan to come back. Thank you John

The Store was a perfect place to stay while spending a few days in Raleigh. John truly thinks of everything when making your stay comfortable and enjoyable. This architecturally renovated corner store is so welcoming and many many times nicer than a traditional hotel. The neighborhood is lovely and very convenient for exploring downtown Raleigh and/or NC State.

I don't have enough good words for THE STORE. John was super friendly, welcoming, and has designed the space beautifully! Comfortable bed, clean, wonderful shower, robes, everything you could want or need was provided along with personal recommendations for restaurants and bars nearby. Location is walkable to many of the places he mentioned and in a quiet neighborhood. Would definitely return and 11/10 would recommend!

Perfect place to stay for our first trip to Raleigh to visit our son. Great location to fun restaurants. John is an Architect and the Proprietor of this house and is incredibly knowledgeable about the best restaurants, shows, galleries etc that Raleigh has to offer. All amenities were absolutely first class and John was incredibly accommodating when we faced snow transportation challenges. We will definitely be back!

The Store has become the only place I want to stay while visiting Raleigh. John is the best Innkeeper. He is knowledgeable, funny, and gives that home away from home vibe. The house was immaculate, clean and very modern, I loved the decor and the fish pond was beautiful. You can't go wrong with The Store, I suggest to make this your place of rest when visiting Raleigh. If I could give it more stars I would. The Store itself and John's hospitality was definitely an added highlight to our visit. Thanks again John! Shana (visitor July 4-6)

Stepping into "The Store" one was the loveliest moment of our road trip, we loved everything about the place: the neighborhood (a residential area that gives you the sense of what it could be to live in Raleigh), the home (a groceries store renovated as a hotel), the owner (John shared his love of the place that he designed with care but also let us our privacy). John went above and beyond to recommend the local flavors of Raleigh. Our bedroom was greatly decorated and had everything we needed (delicious coffee from a local store, various snacks, water, plugs for all kinds of electronics ...), our bathroom was well stocked with shampoo and conditioner from a local hair salon, soap, dental floss, toothpaste and more! The place is extra clean! We found the place on a hotels website but it felt truly at home to be there. Raleigh was a rest stop but we would love to come back just to stay at "the Store" again and see more of the town.

Staying at The Store is a must for anyone wanting a true historical neighborhood, delightful and informative host, and ideal location to surrounding Raleigh interests! Like it's namesake, John Reese provided every detail that you could think of - down to mini makeup wipes, mouth wash, snacks, and community recommendations. The space is meticulously clean and bright. The beautiful open transformation of the historical store is both unique and modern.

My partner Kristofer and I had a truly wonderful stay at the Store while in Raleigh for the Tobacco Road Marathon. The accommodations are beautiful, functional, clean, and cozy. The Store is a beautifully designed building and we really loved all of the thoughtful design touches- John is an architect and his passion shows. I really can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our weekend in Raleigh and that was honestly due to John's spot-on recommendations. We dined at several chef-owned restaurants all of which were fantastic. We enjoyed craft beer, wine, and coffee at recommended locations as well. Seriously, there wasn't a single miss. The Store is well located - we were able to walk almost everyplace we visited. John is a warm and welcoming host who clearly cares about his guests. We really appreciate everything that he did to make our stay as comfortable as possible and we've been telling all of our friends and family to make their way to the Store in Raleigh. Go!
