If I could give this zero stars, I would. My sister had a medical emergency yesterday and the staff here gave poor care to her. Everything from the inappropriate conversations of the staff that checked her in, to the nurse that found it funny to announce her moment of incontinece to the entire ER lobby, I am extremely upset and highly disappointed. Patience that are having a medical emergency should be cared for delicately. I usually have great things to say about this hospital but not today. The only redemptive moment was the care that she received from the night staff. Even the head nurse was highly insensitive when addressing the issues that came up. My sister cried to me about the entire situation and it really effected her dignity and she was not respected as a human. I hope that this review will encourage more development for the ER staff members when it comes to proper patient care.

I was there for 7 hours and still didn't get the results of my CT scan when I left! I felt ignored, and unimportant. I also hate it that they keep you out in the open of the ER while I get to watch others get rooms. It's so exposing and feels unprofessional. The nurse staff was nice enough, most of them. But some not so much. I wasn't allowed to have water or food the whole time while we waited for the results. 7 hours of being dehydrated was absolutely uncalled for. I will choose to go to another ER if even I have to drive a few more minutes away, as long as they don't make me waste 7 hours! Absolutely ridiculous!!!

A few weeks ago, I had a severe sore throat. The swelling and pain in my throat was so bad that I couldnā€™t even take medicine or drink water. I was coughing up stomach bile and was gasping for air at times. When I called the emergency room over the phone, they told me they had a 45 minute wait tops, but the doctors would certainly take me sooner than that. I waited over there hours in excruciating pain in the waiting room and I never saw the doctor. It doesnā€™t matter what you are going through or how much pain you are in. They do not care. They even had the nerve to call me up on the phone later in the night and ask me how I was going to pay my bill, when I never saw the doctor in the first place! I really canā€™t understand the people who left good reviews for this place.

The team was attentive and professional. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that all respiratory ā€œpossible COVID,ā€ patients were kept separate in the waiting area. In the ā€œvertical care area,ā€ I was sitting less than 2 feet from those complaining of possible COVID exposure. I was there for an orthopedic issue and felt slightly uncomfortable. We were all in masks, there was a lot of ventilation and there were dividers in between each patient. It just felt awkward seeing a waiting area with 10-20 feet of separation but when it came to treatment we were all within an arms length of one another. I love this location and will continue to visit my physicians there.

Was seen in the ER on 11/27 for possible stroke. From the time we were triaged in, and care began, everyone I encountered was friendly, pleasant, professional and kind.. Even though it was obvious that they were busy, they explained everything that was happening, and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I received excellent care in the ER before being admitted to the hospital for further evaluation, and would highly recommend them for any emergency care needed.

Thank you to Morgan and all the other doctors who helped me today. I hope this message is passed along. Because they took me seriously, something I havenā€™t experienced in my whole year of experiencing horrible fatigue, I found the miracle drug and the exact direction to take. When I tell you I feel like a million dollars, I mean that wholeheartedly. I came in a complete mess but not once did they make me feel crazy like other facilities have. Thank you absolutely so much.

Great experience here. I had a horrific corneal ulcer that was improperly treated by a local optometrist and ended up here pretty early in the morning with debilitating eye pain. The staff were all very sympathetic and kind, and Dr. Beam took very good care of me during extremely intense pain. So grateful for everyone at WakeMed ED and especially for Dr. Beam.

Wow. Worse ER experience ever. I brought my husband here with severe back pain. There were patients all over the place on chairs and stretchers even in the waiting room. 5 hours later we had yet to be seen by a doctor. Not even a Tylenol or someone checking in to see if we were ok. Just wild. We were so desperate that we left unseen. When the nurse saw my husband walking out, she just said sorry. Zero care or compassion for the patients. The same nurse assumed we needed an interpreter. We had not even spoken a word to her. Not sure what that was about or why she assumed we didnā€™t speak English just from our last name. You are better off toughing it out at home than coming here. Watch them try and bill us for wasting our time. If I could give negative stars I would. The leadership here should feel ashamed. Cashing in big salaries while patients are treated inhumanly.

This emergency room is a joke. Kids running around. Wife is sitting here bleeding with fingers cut almost off. Nobody is paying her attention. Asked a male nurse if he was going to take her to xray or let her sit here and bleed. He said oh no! I ain't taking this and you gotta go! He is the worst excuse of a nurse I've ever seen. Pathetic and lazy. I come from a family full of nurses and I've never seen anybody like him.

Have never in my life been to or worked in a hospital emergency room (36 years of healthcare) where they have patients on a stretcher at the half wall of the nurses station with no dividers/curtains. They call it a Hallway A( not sure if other area around nurses station is called Hallway B) You can hear the patientā€™s private information/diagnosis/health info next to you because there is at mist 6 feet between you No privacy Maybe a violation of HIPAA? Visitors are blocking walkways The nurses even had to take a patient through the nurses station to get to a room It was like being in a war zone. FYI the ā€œrealā€ rooms were not filled Not sure why WakeMed would do this? and how they can get away with this legally Hello Joint Commission I highly recommend NOT going here There on 11/12/23 from 11pm to 11/13 at 3 am

Our son was seen at the ED after being referred by Wake Med UC (who were also wonderful!) for broken arm and finger due to a bicycle accident. While there are always waits in an ED, our son received wonderful care from everyone involved. Adam Zirkle was the attending PA and was not only super knowledgeable, he was great with our son, engaging with him and helping to keep him calm during the procedures / setting the arm and finger. He was super thorough in explaining everything to us, as well as all of his follow up care. He apologized several times about the wait and thanked us for being patient. The nurses, and assistants were all great to deal with as well, and engaged well with our us and our child alike. I was going to give 4 stars due to the wait; but there is always a wait in the ED so that is just to be expected. What matters is that we were comfortable where we waited, care for well and when we were seen, were given full attention. We know we brought our child to the right place! Thank you all for a great job!

All the care providers were genuine and efficient. They took time to explain everything involved in my care and kept me informed of next steps. They have a system now where they will also text a loved one regarding where you are in the process.

Will not go back if I can help it. My experience getting patient care was terrible. It started with the ambulance ride there but 1st about why I needed help. My ankle injury turned into a Gout flare-up that was so server and extremely painful that I could not put pressure on my foot that had swelled 3x's its size. The pain level was 10/10 & started 4am that morning. I called for an ambulance at 9am and got picked up. I was put on a stretcher that my foot dangled over because it was too short. As they were pulling me in my driveway they veered off the path jolting the stretcher, ugh. They took my blood sugar level (normal) and got me to this hospital but did not drop me off at the emergency entrance, instead I was put up to the lobby after switching me into a wheelchair in the parking lot. I needed my leg up not down I explained because the pressure was unbearable. I got checked in and sat in the waiting room even tho I got there in an ambulance. The admin nurse saw me right away. During all this I can't help but moan in pain and I told her my level was 10/10. Once I was examined and all my info and reason for my being there was done, they put me in a hallway with the broken wheelchair because the legstand did not stay in up position. 30 minutes passed and no one had helped me. The stress of my pain caused me to pass out after 90 minutes of sitting and I hunched for who knows how long. Finally a doctor, I think, came and woke me. I was a little disorient and tried to answer her questions. I can tell she was becoming annoyed with my response even tho I was coming out of a fog. I got it together and told her why I was there and my pain was extremely intolerable. I told her I need my ankle raised up or somewhere to lay down. I pleaded for this. She said she would be back and get something to relieve the pain. I apologized for not being very responsive at 1st telling her its hard to focus being in this pain. When she left I asked a nurse for help with my wheelchair and she couldn't help. There was a bed in the hallway next to me so I asked if I could just lay down in the bed. She said absolutely not. I should have just did it myself and laid in it but I don't like to cause any issues. 30 minutes later an aid came over to give me pain meds but 1st had to check my sugar level. I told her they did that in the ambulance about 2hrs ago but she needed to do it again or I cannot get the meds for pain. Once I got the meds I was release with a prescription. She wheeled me to the lobby and said good luck. My behavior was in no way mean or direct or nasty. I was very patient while being somewhat neglected and I felt I was an inconvenience. I also do expect to get more immediate attention since I was brought there by ambulance, not to be put in the waiting room. Whether they were busy (waiting room was empty) or not, no one kept me in the loop of whats going on while waiting. Some of the medical staff should maybe find a new career; especially that doctor. Saw her once for 5 minutes and that was all. Side note, I had called my wife after speaking to the doctor and asked her to come get me out this hospital and go somewhere else even with being in extreme pain. I just didn't want to be there anymore.

This is the cleanest hospital ER I have ever been in my entire life! I required surgery and the staff kept me informed every step of the way. It was a weekend and any hospital's ER is going to require some waiting unless you are in cardiac arrest or bleeding to death. That is just the way it is. I did not mind as my outcome was excellent due to the professionals that work in this hospital.

The worst emergency room. The majority of staff was horrible. Attitudes for no reason. It was like the nurses and the staff got there kicks out of being rude to the patients and family members. My daughter had thrown up 25 times and was dehydrated to the point that she was dizzy and had very low blood pressure. I had to persistently stay on top of them to give her an IV and after half the bag was gone the nurse took it out so my daughter could give a urine sample and would not put it back in because she said she had to have ā€œapprovalā€ from her nurse to connect it back! In my opinion they are intentionally trying to harm the patients that come in. Please read the other reviews because something is not right with these people who work in this ER.

Came in for what I assume is a stomach bug, but I canā€™t be sure and still donā€™t know because they never actually told me. I got back pretty fast but was told Iā€™d be in a temporary hall bed until a room opened up. It took an hour for the ER doc to come talk to me. She was quick to give me something for my pretty severe abdominal pain and some fluids, but thatā€™s essentially all I got the entire time I was there. Nobody ever came to talk to me without me or my husband having to flag someone down, including when it was time for more fluids or meds. I sat in a bed in front of the entrance to the back of the ER for twelve hours. I was never put in a room, which made my intimate reason for being there in the first place feel incredibly NOT private. I was told twice that Iā€™d been admitted to the hospital, but the doctor only came to see me once and said Iā€™d have to wait because there were no beds. After twelve hours I decided to leave, which they determined was AMA because they wanted to keep pushing fluids. But I was entirely over it at that point, exhausted and unable to rest in the very center of a busy ER floor, having to go at a snails pace every single time I had to use the restroom (which was often) because I was in so much pain. I am no better now than when I went in, and I only have ONE answer, which is that I apparently do not have a c-diff infection - and I only got that because I suggested they take a stool sample. The staff definitely could have been more attentive, but they werenā€™t because they were SO UNDERSTAFFED. It always looks like thereā€™s a lot of people bustling around, but it clearly wasnā€™t enough for the amount of patients who were there. The hospital itself didnā€™t have enough ROOMS. Wake County is a very rapidly expanding and desirable place to live, and we deserve healthcare that is going to actually help us heal and take care of ourselves. WMN is not doing that right now. Iā€™ve tried this location and the one on New Bern which was WORSE. I donā€™t recommend either of them to be frank but I donā€™t know where else to go.

Relies to much on their app. I took my son there cause he had a very high fever. He had some test done but we were discharged cause his fever came down. So the doctor told us that we can go home and wait for the results to come in through the mychart app. She told us it was take an hour or so. It's been almost 24hrs and I still have no results from them. I called multiple people and no one knows anything. Instead of having people set up another app maybe just send in results through email.

I had a wonderful experience today at the ER. My orthopedic suggested I go there because I was having severe back pain and needed immediate attention. The nurses were very compassionate and caring. The ER doctors listened to my issues and immediately came up with a plan. The orthopedic that came in was very nice and attentive and contacted my orthopedic and discussed further plans but my doctor didnā€™t agree with surgery and wanted to do rehabilitation. Which Iā€™ve been saying for years was not the way to repair my lower back. I now have Wake Orthopedic taking control of my care and they will be actually FIXING the problem instead of just ignoring it and rehabbing it. Iā€™m so grateful for them

Had to go to Wake Med North ER for heart related concerns. Staff was excellent in all areas. Could not have asked for better care and felt at ease. Very professional with a very personal touch. Thanks for making an uncomfortable situation comfortable! Thanks for the care, I was there from 12:00 am until around 3:00 am. on Nov. 8th. Have been there in the past and always a good experience .

I brought my son in today and it was a pleasant experience. Casey and Shae did a great job getting us checked in and hooked up to various monitors. Megan took care of our nursing needs and advocated for things Devyn needed. Devin from the lab rocked it out getting an IV in nice and easy where others were not able to and she delayed her lunch to get this done to help out. Finally the PA Lindsay was caring, understanding, sympathetic, thorough, and knowledgeable. Thank you Wake Med North ER. You ladies rock!!!

My ER experience on 10/2/22 was abysmal. The ER room had no call button. The ā€œbedā€ they put me on was more like an iron rack from a medieval torture chamber. Solid metal, small. Most of the nursing staff spent their time in the hall way in 3 way hen parties. The neglected to inform me I had tested positive for covid for some considerable period of time after the test results came back. I would rate this experience as 0.0 and I will probably never go back to the ER again.. Wake Med Raleigh will be my next attempt. Strongly worded letter to followā€¦

I didnā€™t want to give a bad review because I do like this hospital and go to the PC and others at this location, and having all my records there is super helpful. I would say the triage nurse and staff during my first 30 minutes there would get 5 stars - Lissette was wonderfully kind and helpful and explained everything to me so that I wasnā€™t scared. She even walked me to my room and hooked me up and got a blanket/sheet for me. But then the nurses during the next 4 hours of my stay get 3 stars. I understand that it was a Saturday night and they were busy, but perhaps they needed more staff. Matt came in after a bit, for about 30 seconds, asked me about my symptoms, and then I never saw him again. I guess because I wasnā€™t actually dying I wasnā€™t a priority anymoreā€”understandableā€”but no one explained anything. No one told me that I was going to have to wait an entire hour before anything would happen or anyone would see me because they had to take blood again at that time. I didnā€™t know until the lady came to take blood. Meanwhile my blood pressure was still high, I was still having symptoms and I was still concerned, but no one reassured me. An NP finally came, instead of a doctor, and she was nice and informative. But when a new nurse, Claire, replaced Matt she didnā€™t come in to introduce herself. My monitor started beeping and I had to push the call button and it took minutes for her to come in. Then after waiting a few hours, not knowing what was happening or what I was waiting for, I had to use the bathroom and get water, so I pushed the call button again, after I couldnā€™t wait any longer, and a paramedic actually came in to help and walk me to the bathroom. He was very nice. This was a very frustrating visit for me. I went to the ER to begin with because I didnā€™t know what was happening to me and felt scared, but in hindsight I should have suffered at home. It is helpful knowing that my EKG, chest x-ray and blood work were normal, but I still have the same underlying symptoms I had (without chest and arm pain) and still donā€™t know why. I appreciate that everyone was kind and did their jobs well, but I could have used more than a minute of the nursesā€™ time to explain what was happening.

Excellent standard of care. First, I am a physician. Second, this is how an ER should be run....with attention to detail, exceptional employees who go the extra mile all day every day, and compassion. You will find all of these here!! Can't begin to say enough good things about my experience in this ER.

Arriving at the Wake Med North Emergency room with my Mom, the staff assisted us by bringing out a wheelchair to the car. I could park immediately in front of the entrance And get right back to my motherā€™s side. The check-in process was efficient; care began right away. Though the ER was very busy, my mom received great care. I am so grateful to have WakeMed North as a resource!

I went to this ED last night for a terrible migraine.. Everyone was kind & caring. I didn't wait long in the waiting room at all. The triage nurse let me sit in a darkened room to the side until they called me back. It was very thoughtful & he started my IV so there wouldn't be a delay once the provider had seen me & ordered meds..I wish I got his name! From the nurse who brought me back to the charge nurse to the discharge rep to the PA .. every single person was wonderful! So thank you to all! You guys are doing good things! I was in & out in approximately 4 hours. šŸ˜Š

I was treated with care, dignity and concern. Everyone was friendly and caring while being professional and safe. All questions were answered and discussed to my understanding. I felt that I was in the best of hands while the sought to determine the cause of my pain and discomfort. Highly recommend them. No wait, immediately assessed my specific concerns and began tests. Overall experience is excellent.
