The place is not at all maintained and all the places are abandoned and left to ruins. Due to lack of maintenance, its becoming very dirty. Not at all recommended for visit. Can avoid this place.

Kanke is a census town in the Kanke CD block in the Ranchi Sadar subdivision of Ranchi district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Kanke has a large water reservoir called Kanke Dam, which is used to supply water to Ranchi city.

Natural beauty is awesome, one would like to spend time near the reservoir. There is a small hill near the dam, so one can climb that to get a high altitude view of the whole place. One downside is that this place somewhat lacks maintenance.

Good picnic spot. View was very nice. We have enjoyed our visit. Boating also available. Relaxing environment. If you are a nature lover and love to see sunset at very less cost then you should visit once here . I would suggest to go to in the evening. Kanke dam is situated on the base of Gonda hills.It is about 8 kms from Ranchi railway station. It is a nice place for health point of view because I felt here a good weather condition. Ranchi mental hospital is very near from here .The dam is the main water reservor of Ranchi. Water is supplied from here to entire Ranchi. The dam is well mentioned. The surroundings are neat and clean.Amid hustle and buzzle of Ranchi lies the Kanke Dam, offering an escape that any water body would. A peaceful walk around the dam, watching the sunset, just some quietude is what you get for coming here. if lucky you could get to see the occasional bird catching a fish; please do visit for a recharge and dam your thoughts and other concerns away.
