What an amazing experience for the whole family! My kids absolutely loved the climbing and we spent the full two hours trying every wall. My 14 year son was able to do the adult section and he loved it. A few suggestions is wear long pants that you don't mind getting damaged. Longer length wise tops and socks. The only downside for me is that the restaurant is a only Vegan menu. Such a pity casue I personally didn't really enjoy the food and won't make a point of eating there again. However, overall great experience and highly recommend a visit.

I've been to the shop to buy gear for my aerial fitness studio, but this is actually the first time I climbed. It was so much fun. I loved it! The staff are friendly and helpful, they really know their stuff. I can see this is a nice community, the climbers are super friendly too. The Vegan sandwich I had was super tasty. All in all a great experience and a super fun day "out" 🤩😍

What an amazing experience! It was a lot of fun and a great day. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to try it. It is quite physical especially on your fingers and forearms but they do have various difficulties for anyone to try out. It's a lot of fun to go for the day and to try out all the different climbs.

Love this place. Nice people, healthy environment and excellent excercise. I am surprised more people haven't cottoned on to what a great açtivity in door climbing is (and its badass). There is a gym, yoga and pilates and climbing in one venue plus coffee. All this for a monthly comparable with your local gym.

What an incredible experience at this wonderful venue!! Photos don't do justice to just how much fun this place can be! Don't need a partner as they have assistance belay systems which allow a person to just go and enjoy the walls! We were there when at least 40 kids were doing a competition and there was still enough space for everyone to do there own thing. What was surprising was the little gym and studio upstairs which was good fun! Not many weights, but enough for basic work out routine. I highly recommend any person try something different.

The staff is great upon entering, hiring equipment is super easy. Safety is definitely a top priority here. The environment and the people are very encouraging. Highly recommend.

Super fun experience for brave kiddies, looking for a in thing different. Good coffee for Moms too. Different levels depending on experience. Some super serious climbers there too. Would be good to have some more hands-on employed helpers available for the kids though. We had one hairy moment when a dad stepped in to help. Otherwise will definitely go again.

Absolutely love it! Kirsty helped with my membership. She was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, understanding and gave the best advice on gear. I went there with an open mind but Kirsty had me as soon as I walked through the door. I can't wait to get fit and have fun at CR JHB. The vibe is really great and they've just redesigned the walls. The gym is fully equipped and the yoga on a su day morning is phenomenal 🙌

Tall walls, tough boulder problems or gentle beginner routes. There is something for everyone. I love the little café and fussy vegan kiosk for lekker coffee or snacks in between climbing sessions. The yoga studio upstairs is great for a pre-climb warm up and the array of climbing related training gear ensures one always has something to keep busy with. If you haven't climbed, they have intro courses and gear rentals. The gear shop is also quite decent. Staff is generally friendly and vigilant regarding safety. Overall, definitely recommend to anyone keen on trying climbing or looking for a place to get stronger. Tip: if you are keen to lead or top rope, you need to pass their safety test, but definitely call or book BEFOREHAND to hear if someone is there to conduct the test to avoid hassle. Very excited about their Pretoria branch opening soon!

Great climbing facilities and friendly staff who will help with any questions or training concerns. There are ±7m walls (auto-belay and 1 or 2 manual belays) for everyone to use, as well as ±16m walls for ages 14+ and a huge bouldering section. There is a gym equipment section too. Climbing equipment is for hire and there is a tuck shop for snacks and drinks. Climbing equipment can be purchased here too, there is a shop at the entrance with a wide variety of brands for professional grade harnesses, ropes, belay-tools, accessories and more...

Best climbing gym in Gauteng hands down. Just be aware certain member(s) of the staff can be snobby at times, but the place is vegan so it is to be expected, just brush it off and you will absolutely have a great time. Gym quality is 5/5. Also has a bouldering part and a climbing gym just for kids. Few pro tips: 1. The place has automatic belays. This is what makes this climbing gym different from the rest. You can go climb solo and not need to do a course or need another person. 2. The belaying course is absolutely worth your time if you have a friend or partner to climb with. Once you do it, hard to go back to the automatic belay since climbing with a belayer is more fun and beginner friendly (you can rest while not holding onto the wall, in the auto belay you will descend back to the bottom). 3. If you have a fear of heights or bringing some that has and they are going to just automatic belay, make them practice a few times going downs (first at 2m, then like 3m, then at 6m), otherwise they will climb all the way to the top and not want to let go and you will watch them eventually give in because of muscular fatigue and gently come down. 4. The automatic belay is very gently and very safe, it can just feel scary 😋. 5. There is food and drinks (just all vegan) 6. There are lockers if you want to place your stuff in it. 7. 🔥 Remember to use your legs instead of just depending on your arms. Unless you climb at a high level, your legs should be doing the majority of the work. You will be able to do more climbs and go further if you don't just try and use your arms.

It was my first time and let's just say it will NOT be my last. I had a wonderful time. It was clean and safe. The instructors we 100% on top on safety. Well done City Rock keep up the great work.

This is about the most wholesome way to spend a day in Johannesburg. Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff who put safety first are on hand. Graded climbs and set belay points make chosing your next challenge easy. There are also climbs with auto belay systems, and loads of bouldering problems, so if you don't have a climbing buddy you can still see some action. If hunger strikes, visit the "Fussy Vegan" Resturant for something to keep you climbing. A very enjoyable day out.

I reckon that this is about the most wholesome way you can spend a day in Johannesburg. The gym is well maintained, clean and well appointed. Climbs graded from easy to hard and bouldering. A belay partner is not essential, as there are some climbs that have true blue auto stations. Also loads of bouldering options from beginner to challenging. Fabulous day out.

Really enjoyed my time when I visited before lockdown. Lots of different challenges, there's something for everyone from beginner to expert and multiple challenges for each difficulty so that you don't get bored of the same climb. I just wish there was a branch in Pretoria as the other gyms, or lack thereof, are nowhere close in terms of their climbing gym offering.

Such an awesome place to go climb or learn about climbing. They update the walls regularly so that the climbs are always different and you never get bored. Fantastic place for team building or birthday parties. Would highly recommend going there.

Very social climbing gym. Love the atmosphere. They change the routes often which means you can't get bored. There are numerous grades. Bouldering, top rope, auto belay and lead climb routes.

Great facility, some staff were incredibly helpful and careful with us especially being new. There was one staff member that was so over-bearing and rude. Constantly interfering even after we had our refresher with another staff member and got our temporary passes, almost as if we were being sent to the principal. She really spoilt our time there.

This is THE place for indoor climbing in Johannesburg. Extremely safe and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Rock climbing isn't the only activity, there is also yoga and pilates, a gym floor area and a Fussy Vegan. However, it can be seen as a expensive hobby. R610 monthly or day pass(R170)plus gear rental(R100).

Ordered a powerlifting belt online, arrived within the week and is of much better quality than more expensive belts in certain stores. Only thing I would change is putting a clearer sizing chart on the online store, or givong instruction on how to make the measurements and to what size that correlates.

Made a request for a battle rope protective sleeve to which no feedback was provided despite the engagement. Disappointing as they do have good in store service and fairly affordable products. Edit (06-Sep-2020): a month later from the response to my original 2-star rating and post with no effort made to contact me by MiFitness. Proof is in the pudding when it comes to customer service. If the original rating was not a true reflection one would have assumed something would have been done to prove me wrong. Dont worry, l wasnt looking for a discount or something for free.

Awesome climbing gym! The setup is fantastic and makes me super excited to try harder boulders and routes. They have GriGris on all the top rope routes, which makes it easy to belay and requires less of your own gear. Their boulders include something for ever level and are creatively set up. They have a climbing and outdoor store as well as a coffee shop.

Very helpful staff. Great intro course

The staff are very rude and unhelpful I have been climbing for over 20 years and having multiple anchor points I was setting up a dummy rope, the staff having no regard for safety screamed at me out of nowhere and told me to remove myself from the wall, they seriously need to relax then when removing my equipment they continued to harass me while still on the wall. I ignored them as to not put myself in danger and decended safely. When I got to the bottom still shouting at me I said it's fine I will pack my things and leave rather that leaving me alone to pack my things and go the staff continued antagonizing me patronizing me laughing at me as if it was a joke, when asked them to please leave me alone they said no they are going to stand right there and I was further harassed, am 31 and a very experienced climber I have seen people fall from the high walls due to equipment failure I know that it could have been prevented by the staff if they were just less evolved with their own agendas and simply provided better assistance rather than shouting at me while I was at the top of the wall perhaps provide instruction see if help is needed rather than insighting panic this gym is not recommended at all and definitely needs new management, don't waste your money there are more professional and nicer climbing gyms friends and allies for one in the area is of a much higher standard.

What an amazing place! Very friendly staff. I haven't had much experience with climbing but the instructors are amazing and with a few small tweaks they had me climbing beter with every attempt. I would recommend this as an alternative to any conventional gym if you live in the area. They have free weights, treatmills and spin bikes as well as a yoga studio aside from the climbing. If you are an adventurous person and tired of going to your regular gym this is defenitely for you.

Amazing facility and awesome and friendly staff. I watched the poor manager get shouted at today by a young opinionated man and she remained calm and tried her best to resolve the situation despite him being very rude. People should really give people in customer service a bit more credit for the nonsense they have to deal with!

Amazing Experience, the staff is well trained and super polite, their equipment is a great condition, place is extremely clean. Even the vibe is so nice, a must visit for both experienced climber and first timers ! Will be going back frequently!

The gear shop is well stocked and a big thank you to Robert Moffett who has been of great help when buying gear. Debating what gear is best and helping me understand my gear better. He is definitely the reason for me buying a lot of really good equipment I needed but had no idea existed.

Did the beginners course with Thomas in December. Enjoyed it so much, and he was a fantastic teacher. Would have joined the gym, but was only in Jhb for the holidays. 10/10 would recommend.

What an amazing experience. It is rare to find individuals who really love where they work and are dedicated to wanting to share that joy with others. This is what you will fins at CityROCK. I guess climbing becomes a bit of a culture that needs to be shared. We took our kids and had the most incredible time. It has done their self confodemce so much good as they constamtly challenge themselves to take on the next boulder amd strive to climb to the next hight. The staff are also really conscious of the safety rules that are required to make this a experience worth the risk. They make sure that everyone are trained, understands the rules and are required to sign the waver. This might seem irritating, but helps to remind you that there are risks involved in this sport and that you need to always remain conscious of these risks. Overall everything is really well demarcated and clean. There are lots of tables to sit at and enjoy time with friends while building up the stamina to take on the next rock. This is one of those rare great experiences for the family and although the prices are really high it is worth doing once in a while. Or, if the bug bites you, whenever the love for climbing takes you.
