Beautiful little cottage, I finally visited this place, I’ve known about this place for a while but have never had the time to visit. We did a tour with a lovely informative lady, I didn’t catch her name but she explained told us all about the history of May Gibbs’ and the beautiful home. The cottage is preserved very well, almost like a step back in time, I would definitely come back to here to explore the place properly and the gift shop has beautiful items of everything from souvenirs to linens and children’s wear.

A great place to visit with very friendly and passionate staffs, the house tour gives you a full story on the life of May Gibb, her inspirations, her struggles and how her brilliant works come about. No photos allowed in the house (for copyright reasons) and the house entry is only via the guided tour so please check before your visit, there is no parking around the house so best to come via public transport. To make a half day trip for it, arrive by train, hop off at the Milson Point train station, grab some brunch if necessary (Nutcote opens at 11am and the first house tour starts almost right away), takes a leisurely walk (around 1.6 km - 20 mins), arrive at Nutcote by 11am. After the visit (roughly around 1.5 hours), get some lunch around Neutral Bay Ferry Wharf (recommended an excellent and cheap Thai restaurant - Ta Ta Thai) and take a ferry back to Circular Quay. The suburb of Neutral Bay where the house is located is stunning so please allow some extra time to explore.

Beautifully preserved house, gorgeous gardens and harbour view. Tour guide was fantastic, too. Loved hearing about May Gibbs' life, and seeing her famous gumnut babies. House can only be entered on a guided tour.

Nutcote is the beautiful harbourside home of May Gibbs (1877-1969), Australia’s foremost children’s author and illustrator and best known today for her iconic story The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot & Cuddlepie. Located in Sydney’s Neutral Bay and now a house museum surrounded by delightful gardens, May Gibbs’ Nutcote is an enchanting venue to be enjoyed by everyone, all year round.

Nutcote is true gem of Australian history. It's authentic and true to its time. Wonderful for children but equally as interesting if your are interested in historical interior designs and architecture. As an interior designer I loved the kitchen!! The shop is perfect for a gorgeous gift and we'll worth a trip..great for Christmas shopping. If plants are your thing then there are many treasures here. All looked after by amazing volunteers and all sales go to the Nutcote charity, keeping this wonderful story alive.

A wonderful experience with the museum, a tour of May Gibbs house and the morning tea which comprised of very fresh sandwiches, scones and beautiful small cakes. Too reasonably priced for what you get. A great piece of history.

We had a delightful high tea and tour of nutcote cottage. Our guide was exceptional and knew all details about May Gibbs. We were very impressed. The high tea was lovely, (like all high tea…) probably could provide more for the price. If you look carefully around the gardens- you might find some little may Gibbs surprises hidden within!

A wonderful experience with my 7 year old. We both loved the tour of May Gibbs house and learning about the history of the area at the time May lived there, seeing the 1920s house set up with all the 1920s "gadgets", and learning about May and her writing and illustrations. Such beautiful gardens to wander through and to sit and enjoy homemade scones with jam and cream. Was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend it

Gorgeous preserved home of Australian author May Gibbs is well worth a visit if you're in Sydney. Run by lovely volunteers who give guided tours of Mays home in Neutral Bay. The home has been restored to its original state from the 20's when May lived and worked here up until her death in 1969.

A welcoming and interesting walk through Australian literary history where the nostalgic memories of childhood stories and illustrations are evoked with care. There is a sense that the author's life has been reconstructed with care and authenticity. Thank you to the caretakers of the preservation of the memory of this iconic Australian woman, author, artist and for the opportunity to see her lovely home.

We visited Nutcote on a beautiful cool spring day. The house is modest and beautifully designed with views of Neutral Bay and across to the Harbour Bridge. The guided tour was informative and the guide was very friendly. I recommend a visit.

Beautifully maintained, staffed by volunteers, this is a place to visit if you love historic childrens' literature, lovely harbour views or art. May Gibbs' story is told via a video, narrated by May herself. The ferry ride here and back is worth doing too. Welcome refreshments are also on sale at the tearooms. What a gem!

I highly recommend a visit to this historic home. The former home of artist and author May Gibbs is managed by volunteers. They’ve done an excellent job in restoring and maintaining the home. The grounds are excellent too. We paid $10 each to enter the home. There’s a small cafe at the house. Limited on-street parking. Not far from two ferries stops.

I didn't bother to check Nutcote's website for the opening hours, as a result , after many years of wanting to visit May's home , I arrived on a Tuesday morning and was annoyed to see it locked up. That is what happens when you make a presumption. Nutcote is open to the public from 11am to 3pm , Wednesday to Sunday. It is closed on Monday & Tuesday. (A year later & I still havent seen it ).

A real gem of a day out. Managed to join the tour that runs on the hour. Loved the shop the gardens and the wonderful volunteers that run the place. Had a delicious Devonshire tea in the gardens. We walked over the Sydney harbour bridge to Nutgrove then headed back to circular quay on the ferry. Entrance fee was very minimal and the food was very inexpensive.
