Lived in New Orleans for 25 years. Wife and I travel full time in our RV for the past 2 years and when we see "Cajun" food that sparks our yummies for home cooking.. MOST places don't get it right, unfortunately this is no exception. The good - Portion was out of this world, our server was a spectacular conversationalist, the place is spotless and the drinks were endless and the food came to the table pretty quick. The not so good - I had the combo, headless shrimp and crawfish. (I have to admit that the crawfish were rather plump and the shrimp were plenty). This combo also came with Sausage, 2 pieces of corn. NOW for the taste. Yuk.. I asked the server how they cooked their "cajun" dish. She said with extreme love of the place that she serves, The boil their seafood in regular water, the take it out and place it in a batter of 100% butter and minced garlic and a few other spices to try and kick it up a few notches.. The hottest that they had (for us) was mild, /sigh. I wish I took a pic of my hands but they were FULL of butter and minced garlic. I didn't finish the dish.. Wife had the Cod which was overcooked. Although our experience with those 2 dishes wasn't good, the local beer hit the spot. We didn't complain to the server either. Well, we left the area and if we come back to town, we won't be going back.

Fantastic! A slice of New Orleans/Mississippi in South Dakota? Crawfish boil was super, service was outstanding, oysters were great, gumbo was tasty! I loves me some good-ol down home Cajun food! YUMMY! Everybody was smiling and friendly, our waitress & the staff we interacted with were attentive and helpful. We would gladly go back in a Cajun minute. About 60 bucks for a table full of food.

Ok, I almost feel bad giving this review because I really wanted to like this place, since we only have this place and Red Lobster so not a lot of competition to up the restaurants game a bit! First of all getting fresh seafood when you live in the middle of the United States is a challenge to say the least. It also depends on what you think is fresh. I pull up to the place and it has a nice looking restaurant that says Storming Crab Cajun Seafood & Bar. I was like ok this could be neat since this is the first time going to this restaurant chain! I walk in and it looks like a LongJohn Silvers but with more Ocean Decorations. There was rope tied around wood giving it a dock appearance, fake fishes hung on the ceiling and fishing nets used as wall decorations. So appearance overall was pretty good. The music however does not match the place at all. It was playing 80's & 90's R&B music from Boyz II Men to Color Me Bad and so on. Loved the music but didn't think it matched the atmosphere at all. Oh and if you happen to go into the bathroom expect the music to be cranked up 5 more levels because it is really loud in the bathrooms for some reason. Maybe to drown out the bathroom noises. Ok onto the nitty gritty. The server was shy, soft spoken but was polite, kind, and accommodating which is why this review gets 2 stars and not 1. I ordered the Cajun Fried Rice, House Salad, while my guests ordered some chicken Po-boy sandwich, and shrimp and Cajun Fries. Ok if you are going to have Cajun in your sign of the place, and scattered all over the menu shouldn't you actually add Cajun spices, or something to your food? Good Grief, the Fried Rice was just Asian fried rice with nothing Cajun about it! The fries had a steak seasoning put on them but still had no Cajun or Creole to it. Just cause you name it Cajun doesn't make it Cajun!! The bar wasn't an option either, no one was manning it. Why advertise bar if you are not going to use it! The Rice, the Chicken, the Fries, the Shrimp and everything else was anywhere from average at best to just yucky. I enjoyed three things that night, the music even though it didn't match, the server who did a decent job, and the Mountain Dew I was drinking wasn't bad. That's it! I went over a lot of other reviews for this place and there was way more positive than I expected. So this is what I will say, If you can't get the cheap easy meals done well, how is the important meals like your expensive seafood going to be? I must of came in on an off night for them. It happens, so I think this place here in Rapid City at least is a hit or miss kind of place. You never know what you really are going to get overall. Could be good, could be crabs who knows:) It really sucks though because it was my first time going there and I don't think I could give the place another try. When paying at least $20 for person at the very cheapest end of the scale with some breaching $100 I would make sure everything is on point because this isn't a casual regular eating place unless you have money. This is an occasionally go to place, but only if your experiencing the same level of quality as the price!

We were greeted immediately and sat at the closest booth to the host station. The restaurant was completely empty of customers. Our server greeted us, but was very rushed to try to serve us. I explained I had never been there before and needed a few minutes to review the menu. We tried to give a drink order and she would run away before we could even tell her that we wanted an appetizer. when we would tell her, we would want one appetizer she tried to walk off before we could tell her our second appetizer choice. She was very friendly, but definitely was very rushed even though there were no other customers in the restaurant. If I would’ve known any better, I would’ve assumed she was busy trying to get to other customers. You get two free breads slices, but we ordered the appetizer it got for additional slices of the bread. I personally did not like it. It was very greasy. When I asked what it’s made of it is imitation, crab, mayo, and cheese on top of bread. We also got fried okra as our second appetizer. I took pictures of the menu and the appetizers, but forgot to get a picture of our meal because I was so eager to try it. Our entrées were very delicious. I ordered snow, crab, shrimp, and scallops in a garlic butter sauce with no heat. The person with me order Dungeness crab, lobster tail, shrimp, and clams. We both enjoyed our entrées a lot. We will be going again sometime in the future.

Had the Special 2 and split among 4 people. Plenty of food and it was delicious! Crab was perfectly cooked, shrimp and sausage rounded it out well. Decent beer selection. *Bonus* because we ordered the special, we got a tea thermos :-)

If you are hungry for cheap run of the mill stuff. I will post pics of my experience. The waitress brought our food and apps out at the same time. We ordered mussels that were so over done there was not hardly any in the shell.. The manager grabbed my first refill but that was it. I ordered scallops that were so over done the meat was crunchy, but it wasn't chewy.. lol Would be slightly higher than Red Lobster (but I love the cheddar biscuits there).

We stopped in for lunch had the gumbo and etouffee. It was so good we decided to come back for supper and had the #3 boil, it was another awesome meal. Our waitress Veronica was amazing. Highly recommend stopping by.
