Good restaurant in a very elegant venue in Reading. We got the 7 dishes taste menu for approx 90-100 £ with the drinks. The waiter presented every dish and offered us a nice dinner experience. Price-quality was ok, for a tasting menu which can be much more expensive in other places. The food was not perfect, for example the monkfish could have been better, but in general we enjoyed the dinner and had a great time there.

I would go as far as to say this was the best meal I've had in Reading. Really really good. Had a meal there with my pregnant wife and parents. Food was really great, every dish and every course. Plated beautifully, portioned perfectly. I'm a chef, I would know. Staff were excellent, attentive without being overbearing, all clearly knew the menu inside out, explained each dish beautifully and ensured every aspect of my pregnant wife's meal was suitable and safe. Even went out of their way to make special mocktails for her. Really went the extra mile and I was hugely impressed. Really comprehensive and quality drinks menu. Look forward to my next visit. 5****** 🙏

Nice setting for breakfast with a small outdoor seating nestled in trees. It's buffet style but if you want pancakes which I have is also available.

Been here a number of times, on my first occasion there was nothing vegan on the menu, I asked if anything could be adapted and was flatly told no. It took my whole table to convince them that risotto is very easy to make vegan before they agreed. The most recent occasion, we went for their vegan afternoon tea which sounded really nice. Unfortunately we found that it was severely overpriced and we recognised some of the desert as a red velvet cupcake cut in half and rearranged to presumably rip us off even more? Not impressed with the food here, and value for money is even worse. I'd recommend going elsewhere.

A lovely afternoon tea had at the Reading Room this afternoon. A variety of fresh sandwiches, two varieties of scone (plain and cranberry) and a great selection of bite sized cakes too. Requesting an extra serving of clotted cream wasn’t a problem - and it was provided without any additional charge. Service here was very good from the entire team - from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We were talked through all of the food options in front of us and our enjoyment of the tea was ensured as well. As afternoon tea goes, the price here is a little higher than usual, but for the quality of the food, the excellent service and the wonderful setting, it was worth every penny. And the nicest touch was the ‘happy birthday’ plate with a truffle for each of us.

My husband chose this place to celebrate our anniversary this year, he saw they serve oysters (and I love oysters). They don’t serve oyster any day but Fridays and Saturdays, unfortunately. We tried to order some with not success so worth noting here. After few seconds of disappointment we decided to choose our dishes and we both made great choices. Sophisticated dishes e great taste. They did offer a complimentary starter with bread and herb butter which was great and another started which I don’t remember the name but not for our taste. For desert, his choice was the dark chocolate option and he loved it. To conclude we had a nice “Happy Anniversary” message. Service was good. It was great choice for our anniversary celebration, thanks.

Simple ingredients, well executed. Presented by a very friendly team. Maybe the dairy free dessert could do with an alternative for people who are not so much into pears but again, very well prepared.

What an experience. We went there for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. A welcoming and friendly atmosphere with food to compliment how luxurious this place is. The lamb was my favourite so would defo recommend getting that.

The Reading Room really is a bit of a mixed bag. The room and decor are nice, although sometimes if you’re in the “back section” near the outdoor area you can feel unseen by waiters. Food is very good, but the menu hardly changes at all, they really could do with a seasonal or frequently changing menu. Afternoon tea is nice outdoors in the summer. Overall service is patchy, some staff are very good, some less attentive. There are a lack of quality dining options in Reading, this is probably one of the only ones in the town centre.

Overall really nice, very stylish place. Bar very relaxing and classy. Great cocktails. Dining area and service excellent as well as very comfortable. Food was classic dishes well executed but portions were just so small. Two tiny pieces of fish or beef on a plate and a few vegetables. Why should fine dining leave you unsatisfied and slightly hungry still? At £60/head (including drinks) we got a lot of style but not enough substance.

Really gorgeous ambiance and staff were helpful and fairly attentive. The menu was fairly limited and I wasn't hugely excited by any of the starters, settled on the scallops which were nice. Had the lamb for my main which was also nice enough and my partner got the beef which was bland and underseasoned. The cocktails were nice and they were sweet brought out a happy birthday plate with chocolate truffles. The whole meal came to £170 for two of us and it just wasn't worth the money. Glad we went and nice to find somewhere a bit fancier in Reading but we've had better meals for less elsewhere.

Everything about the afternoon tea was perfect. The sandwiches and cakes were tasty, the selection of teas was astonishing, the service professional, helpful but not intrusive, and the ambiance was formal but relaxed. High marks to The Reading Room all around.

Overpriced and very average food (i'm pretty sure the bread was warmed in a microwave and added bonus of crab shell in the smoke salmon and crab starter), service was not great (although the staff were really nice). Great location and decor though. Think it's trying to position itself as haute cuisine and although it's a small amount of food on a big plate that's about where the comparison ends.

The Reading Room is one of our favourite places in Reading. On this visit we had the tasting menu, one "normal" and one vegan. The food was extraordinary. Wonderful presentation and great tastes. An excellent way to sample the menu. Cocktails were also excellent. The service was perfect, could not fault it. Dominyke was our server and did a fantastic job taking care of us and presenting the food. Highly recommended!

Went here for Valentine’s Day and I had the best experience! The food & cocktails were delicious. Customer service was 5 star! And loved the singer that performed for the evening. I’ll highly recommend.

Brought my team at work here for a celebration. We had the 7-course tasting menu (inc. a full vegan option). Everyone enjoyed. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, beautifully presented on stunning plates. We opted for the wine flight which meant we had a perfectly paired wine with each course. Fabulous. Gabriel looked after us fantastically. We will be back.

Lovely atmosphere food excellent if a little too precious. Didn't like the the amuse-bouche as had truffle oil on it which I detest and would never have ordered if on a menu. Apart from this unfortunate start the meal was excellent and a visual delight.

Absolutely wonderful experience. We went there for a birthday and from the greeting at the reception to the final meal, everything was excellent. Waiters are very attentive and stay close by. We choose to opt-out of the wine flight on our 7 course. I loved a solid 6 of the 7 items with the exception being the pear course because I personally don’t like pears. The lovely touch of the birthday “plate” was appreciated. Highly recommended.

Supers afternoon tea. Highly recommended for a treat and adult R and R.

Not the best experience overall though the food was very pretty and I'm sure the main course would have been hot if we could have eaten it hot and not have to wait for one person's meal. Makes a mockery of ordering in advance when they can't get it right.

Probably the best restaurant currently in Reading that has no Michelin star but is at least one-star Michelin star level. Great value for money. Deserves the highest number of rosettes too

Had the vegan taster menu. Lovely dishes with some excellent accompanying wines. The beetroot starter was a particular highlight

We went for Valentine’s Day, the place looked really nice. Food was outstanding, specially the linguine with black truffle sauce and the Panna cotta.

Lovely restaurant. Excellent tasting and beautifully presented food. Staff were smart and very professional. Service was superb and staff were discretely attentive. Not cheap but good quality for the quality of the food and wine. I was there for a weekday birthday lunch and it was not crowded. Reasonably well sound attenuated which is important for me because I have a hearing impairment. I could have a conversation because the background music was subdued and not intrusive. Highly recommended.
