Just great. I was looking for a traditional English pub in Reading and The Alehouse seemed like the best option. And so it is! People were so nice, everyone, from the staff to the clients. I went by my own, and at the second that I entered in the pub I met some of the frequent clients! Just perfect guys, they invited me to a couple pints and we were chatting the whole afternoon until I had to go. And also, you can go there to drink at any time, there will always be people! Good ales and good prices, with a perfect ambient and decoration. I wish I could return. If I come back to Reading, The Alehouse will be one of the first places to go back to.

Absolutely banging place to go drinking in Reading. I didn't realise but knocking the door as hard as you can really makes the locals appreciate you and will give you your round for free. Can't wait to go back!

Pump clips line the walls and ceiling providing a look into the recent history of the ales that have been poured at the pub. The soundtrack here is always eclectic as are the clientele. A much needed pub that provides respite from the monotony of the high street. A must visit when in town especially if you're a fan of cask beer as the selection changes frequently

An ickle pub with big beer selection. Less of the more modern beers and more of the traditional British styles, but they do have a variety including a few weird and wonderfuls. Great place to sit in the sun and people watch out front or sit in one of the atmospheric little nooks.

Fun small old pub. Used to love sitting in the small booths at the back but the toilets stink now. Good for a quick pint without all the fuss of fancy bars. Please clean the smell though.

The pub is a hub for real ales in Reading, the split level interior has several drinking compartments, all wood panelled. The walls a ceilings are festooned with pump clips of beers served in the pub.

Proper old Alehouse serving up a multitude of beers. Quirky old world interior. What's not to like? Ok so the majority of the punters are middle aged men. But its all about the banter and enjoying a mobile phone free space!

Best pub in Reading and possibly the country! Landlord and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about real ales. Punters are very welcoming and you will always find someone to have a chat with over a decent pint. Drinks are very reasonably priced and change regularly so you can sample an exhaustive range over a few weeks. I would consider myself a local and a regular there and hope to be for years to come. :)

Silly loud heavy metal music ,no internet access,no phone signal Vodafone in 2022? Well getting that out of the way... barman friendly few ale's available nice quirky all wooden interior of little rooms and seating nooks. I saw only four ale's on , looks like they could probably put on a few more they had ciders boxed lilies and suchlike. Only stayed for 2 Half's £4.90

Quirky with a biker vibe, this place has some excellent ales and some of the best cubby holes to hide away in with a book and a pint. The beers change frequently and there is always something new. I've been in here a few times and love it. The only thing that lets the place down is the cleanliness of the toilets. For atmosphere and vibe, this is one of my favourite pubs in Reading.

Really enjoyed the unique interior decor, rock music. Definitely a local pub, but a friendly one. Worth a visit for the still cider.

What an absolute stunning place. Whatever you wanted it had. A huge selection of ales , beers, and a mead to knock your socks off. The atmosphere had a good, warm, welcoming vibe.

Excellent selection of beers ..and a pub with a unique character in the centre of town. My favourite.

What a great little pub. Found it by accident and would definitely like to visit it again in the future. It has a great selection of tap and bottled beers and the seating areas are very interesting, with some being accessed by a winding little passageway. Almost Harry Potter esque.

This is a brilliant real old British pub with a great selection of beers and ciders with friendly knowledgeable staff who care about the beer they serve, I always drop in when I am in Reading (no wonder they won pub of the year in Reading) Well done keep it up 👍

The most awe inspiring pub I've ever been to. Never a dull moment as there's always someone up for having a chirp. Beer selection of beer is always surprising snd entertaining, always some from local breweries on offer - also plenty of humourously named real ales. You can tell they've been doing it for years. So many pubs have a timid, tepid selection of beer but these guys love to play around with some fun ones you've never heard of before. Whitesnake is almost guaranteed to be playing over the speakers at some point during your visit.

Walked in on a quiet Wednesday evening, and the long haired, quite frankly stressed out bartender, said he wasn't serving big groups, and refused to look at us. There was 8 of us, not exactly the biggest group going. Guy obviously stressed out, needs a holiday.

This pub is small and cosy, nestled along the bustling high street and embellished with beer pump clips adorning its walls and ceilings. A few cozy chambers are tucked away down the corridor behind.

Great vibe in an olde world style. They do 3 varieties of picked egg (!!!) and perhaps too many ales. Mine didn't keep its head as is often the case when many ales are on offer. Take a look around you and order whatever is popular as it will be of a better standard due to the turn around. Plenty of boxed (probably dangerous) cider. If you're from the Midlands where the ale is top notch it may not come up to scratch but the bartending is great as is the ambient music choice - mostly 70s classics, it makes you want this place to have a pool table. Toilets beyond basic just like in the old days. Old ale badges to gawp at everywhere. Reading would be worse off without this place. On the small side but ideal for a stop off. 2 tables on street for outdoor imbibing.

I recently visited The Alehouse and had a fantastic experience! The beer selection was great, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The highlight for me was the lovely garden area, perfect for enjoying a drink in the sun. Overall, I highly recommend The Alehouse and can't wait to visit again!

Great range of beers, best place outside for people watching and seeing your friends walk past, stop them for a drink. Lovely

Love the alcoves. Is that the right word? Alcoves...

If you like your beer REAL, not fizzy, not frozen, and a huge choice from the darkest maltiest stouts, to the palest fruitiest IPA's and everything in between then this is the place for you. DON'T GO IF you are looking for: lager, cushioned seats, loud music, food. DO GO IF you want a huge selection of real ale to explore, great music, but in the background, amiable and courteous staff, weird locals, nooks a crannies to hide in.

Loved this place, small, real pub in the centre of Reading. So many real ales it was hard to choose. Friendly atmosphere and will certainly go back next time I'm in town.

Great ale House, lots of choice of ale & cider. Small amount of seating inside and out. Accessibility is limited as there are stairs and small amount of room on the ground floor. Well worth a visit off you like your real ale and cider.

Great pub - no frills, doesn't do food (other than crisps etc), doesn't do cocktails, eclectic music is choice of bar staff. It's definitely an ale- or cider-drinkers' place. The customers tend to be mainly male over-50's, but everyone is welcome. My only criticism (which applies to many real-ale pubs) is that a lot of the beers are one-off brews - so if you find something you really like, you may never be able to get it again.

An olde worlde experience. Knowledgeable bar staff and Patron. Many thanks to John, barstaff du jour. Beer quality generally excellent although as driving today I was on Fentermans ginger beer. The growler take-away of the Ellusive was great when I got home. Hopefully won't be too long before I am back in this "local" of mine.

There is nothing flash about the ale house, I.e no juke boxes, no loud music, it's somewhere you can sit down and enjoy a quiet drink. Certainly recommend.

What a pleasure to find a real ale pub in the middle of Reading! I just love the way this place is laid out with several small booths, very retro and cosy. A good old fashioned English boozer, staff are friendly, clientele are friendly, beer is good and not overpriced. Our new favourite Reading pub!

A lovely little quirky pub with lots of great beer on tap!

Used to visit long ago in the days of the London Tavern/Hobgoblin - it was always a tad cramped back then and they've managed to constrict the space even further with some puzzling cubby-hole type wooden booths. Probably fine for those used to it & expect it has a faithful regular clientele - and appears to have a large selection of ales to attract the discerning drinkers.
