As far as places to eat go, it wasn't too bad. They had a good variety on the menu and even my mum, who is a vegetarian, managed to find something that she liked. With our food, was bottomless chips - which we took full advantage of! And refillable drinks. The children's menu was very good too, good sized meals and desert (pictured).

We had a family meal, 2 adults and 3 kids. The children's portions are absolutely tiny. If you have a child over 5, you'll need an adult portion. The adults had Surf and Turf. It was around £22, and again the portion was tiny. The steak was perfectly cooked and the calamari was amazing but it was advertised as coming with chips, a tomato and mushroom and it only came out with a few chips. I'd have happily paid between £15 but definitely not enough food on the plate for £22. We all also had a pudding. It was slightly disappointing because we all came home still hungry.

Wouldn't go back or recommend . It was busy, so I assumed it couldn't be that bad or maybe the food or service made up for the lack of cleanliness, but no , it's probably busy as not many other pubs around. Pub was so filthy..tables incredibly sticky, menus also sticky 🤢 also chewing gum dotted about everywhere it was just rank. Toilets I walked in and walked straight out . Adults' food was edible ,nothing worth raving about, the kids burger I wouldn't have even given to a dog . Was also food flies everywhere. The lady I'm guessing was the manager also seemed awful as she was constantly shouting at her staff. It you want to feel like you're in the slums this is the pub for you !

An excellent eatery and bar with great service by very helpful and knowledgeable staffs. The ambience was great and place was clean and well decorated for Christmas celebrations. The male toilets were clean but did smell awful! Definitely in need of some disinfectant. The floor carpet leading to the male toilets was filthy looking.

45mins waiting for a hamburger and fillet steak medium rare. The steak was dry and very well done The hamburger was a bit burnt/black . Have had very good meals here before. Shame, but perhaps this was just a bad day for the cook. They gave us 25% off the bill.

We visited this restaurant last week and had a great experience. The food was great and it was refreshing to be able to get healthy options. In an age where customer service is no longer a priority it was great to have such warm and friendly staff, in particular Emma who served us. She was hardworking and attentive and was a credit to the place.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere and really good value for money. The food was nice, well cooked tender steak and delicious chips. Cheerful staff :)

Just love it, Julija was very welcoming, she helped with our choices for what to have as a meal. It was a good evening with a really nice dessert as an amazing finishing touch. She did an amazing job looking after us, always smiling with a good mood. Really enjoyed we will be back sooner then I expected. :)

The atmosphere was excellent. We had a lovely friendly waitress named Sophie. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and always checked on us to see if we needed anything else. The food was very delicious

We enjoyed a lovely meal the other evening. It was quite busy but didn’t wait long, the food was good and the service was brilliant. We were very well looked after by Sophie our waitress who was very friendly and attentive. She looked after us throughout the whole evening and made sure we had everything we needed. We absolutely love it here. Food is always great but the service is terrific. The lady at the front of house, always seats us where we like when available and it’s much appreciated. We can never fault Sophie who was our waitress today. Sophie serves us regularly when we visit here and even remembers our preferences, very grateful! We will continue to visit often. Thanks!

I really enjoyed the evening, so much so because they were doing a psychic fayre on the top floor. I thought that to be so random but so much fun at the same time. Great service and the food I ordered was really good.

Amazing friendly staff, service is polite but with a genuine smile. Hygiene is excellent. Wet products and food can't be faulted. Staff happy to beyond the extra mile. Disabled toilet not the best, two disabled parking bays.

I have been here many times as part of a local event organising committee - we have our meetings in the bar and then eat after. Food has always been delicious and as orders whilst the staff are reliably friendly and always check you have everything you want.

Wonderful Restaurant and Bar, staff are friendly and helpful with a huge smile and great sense of humour. Food selection is vast and high quality. Two disabled parking bays. Ramp entry at the front for wheelchair access. Certainly a place for a quiet meal or a nice laugh with friends.

One of the best pubs in Reading. I love the interior deco of the place. The staff were very nice and courteous. Overall a nice place to be in at Reading.

This review is purely based on the flies… the food could be amazing but the place is swarming with flies… whether you’re in the bar area, restaurant or toilets there are flies everywhere. CLEAN IT UP IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD!!

Place looks nice, warm and welcoming. Decent menu and prices. Food is good, but nothing outstanding. Little bit better than most big pub chains so that’s definitely a bonus. Stakes are good, ribs are ok… generally speaking 4 out of 5 stars is spot on. One thing to note as exceptional is the Hot Chocolate 🤤

We went here for Valentine’s Day 2023. The Food and Service was incredible! 😍 the only thing is we were really close to other couples. Our elbows were almost touching! 😂 and you could clearly hear everyone’s conversation but still a really nice evening.

Good food, cheerful and attentive staff. Good value for money. The thing that let it down, and let it down in a big way, we're the atrocious state of the toilets. Taps unable to turn off, toilet paper all over the wet and slippery floor and generally absolutely filthy. Not good good enough to put me off returning.

Very good food, nice ambience and service ok. Just perfect for watching a World Cup semifinal on a Tuesday night.

Enjoyed my ribeye as did my wife with her salmon. I would lose the cold grilled mushroom and warm grilled tomato and replace with more salad instead of the token rocket. Will be returning as the food is good as is the staff,well done Maria

We had a great experience at the Southcote Beefeater this week. All the staff were welcoming and friendly, especially our server Linda, who was brilliant. Food came in good time and was really tasty. We actually live closer to the Reading Gate Beefeater but the service there was far too slow, you can barely get 1 course in an hour! We will be making the slightly longer journey to The Southcote now everytime!

This place is a breath of fresh air. Great service, friendly and attentive staff, especially Chloe! What a contrast from certain venues in town. However, I really don't think £12.49 for a very small chicken burger and chips is good value for money, plus £7.62 VAT on top of that. I would have left a tip for the great staff experience but sadly due to the VAT I didn't. We won't be back to eat, but happy to return for a few drinks due to the friendly nature of the staff.

Visited on Sunday, they were extremely busy but managed to get us a table which we only had to wait 20mins for. Fantastic value for money. The service we received from all members of staff was amazing, however we were particularly impressed by the lady working behind the bar. Couldn’t fault her service at all!! we will definitely be returning very soon!!

An absolutely fabulous meal. The Prawns were lovely, and my wife said the Lamb chops were fantastic. Service was 1st class, the young lady was like a honey bee, buzzing around helping at every table. Nothing was too much trouble for her. You're very lucky to have her.

Pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Service was very good and friendly. All our food was amazing. The calamari starter was cooked to perfection. Our steaks were lovely. We will definitely be returning.
