I recently had a knee operation at the hospital. I was looked after and properly cared by the excellent staffs, nurses, and auxiliary staffs. The operation was done under the supervision of Mr Andrade. He was extremely helpful and showed total professionalism in taking me through the stages of the procedure, before, during and after the operation, After care was excellent and I felt relaxed in a very comfortable environment before leaving the hospital after three days. The physiotherapy facilities in the Mansion house are more than adequate and I’m following the chartered programme of exercises and attending the ‘knee’ classes to improve my mobility. The staffs were courteous and very helpful. The consultant was excellent and first class. For aftercare the gym facilities at the Mansion House are excellent with close supervision by a physiotherapist - certainly would recommend ‘knee classes’. Great facility for the X-ray in the Mansion House that is fast and efficient service.

I had 2 visits to the pre-op assesment team. I was very happy with all the staff I met except for a young receptionist. I am moderately deaf and conversations are made more difficult for me when masks are worn. I had to ask her to keep repeating what she said. She started to treat me as if I was stupid rather than deaf. She needs to go back to any Charm School she went to or ask for her money back

UPDATING: Finally had the surgery. The staff I saw were wonderful and much more reassuring after what I went through on the first visit. I've put it to 5 despite what happened with that nurse and the rigmaroll as the one who helped me during before and after was so reassuring and lovely, that it helped a lot of the fear I had had. -------------------- I've lost faith in this place. I was told everything was go for my surgery, had the COVID test, blood tests, everything. Was reassured the whole way that nothing would stop the surgery I'd been fighting for for years. I had a very unpleasant experience for the final tests that I won't go into because I know they're over worked and doing their best so I know it's not their fault, but long story short, despite doing my best to lose weight, even after catching COVID in January and containing my diet since, and my weight not going down as it should (which I raised) I was told it can't be done. I now need to go back to my GP, who has been dragging me around for three years, fight to get another referral. Have to go through the entire humiliating process again. Fight for the right to the surgery that's hard enough to get at my age because "what about children" Because I'm fat and I have asthma. I know that's my fault but I've been trying. And to get so far, reassured countries times that nothing will get in the way NOT EVEN THE ASTHMA OR WEIGHT,to finally be able to get ready for the surgery to fix a major issue, only to be turned down, has utterly destroyed me.

I had my ovarian cyst removal surgery at the hospital last month as a private patient. The surgery itself went well however when I came back around from general anesthesia, I had extreme unbearable pain in my left eye. Upon asking, no one seemed to know how it happened and was initially ignored. However as the pain was unbearable, I complained constantly as I couldnt even eat breakfast provided or open my eyes, due to the pain. I was taken to see an optometrist who informed me that i had an corneal abrasion and put an eye patch temporarily. I was then seen by an opthalmologist who provided me with a 5 day course of antibiotics and advised me to put gel drops for 2 months every night. It was quite disappointing that I had to go through all this pain despite not having any treatment related to my eye. I then had to chase the hospital to get answers to how this happened and in the end they just apologised without having any clear answers. For 3 days of completly unnecessary eye pain along with my surgery pain, having to do an antibiotics course, forget compensation, i wasnt even paid to buy th3 expensive eye gel i had to use for 3 months. Having said that, the nurses were very nice but if something goes wrong, you are on your own!

I just wanted to say that I received outstanding service at the Royal Berkshire Independent. I was treated like absolute royalty. From the nurses, to the anaesthesiologist to the receptionist. Every single person That looked after me on that day was incredible. I would also like to add I ended having some palpitations or a quick heart rate and they made sure to incite me back straight away. They made sure that I was well before and still looked after me after my operation. One of the best treatments I have ever had. Thank you so so much! Op date- 21/06/2021

I attended the Berkshire hospital yesterday for a procedure which I was dreading. The hospital were amazing! I had been referred here by the NHS and from the moment I walked in to the time I left I was treated with suck kindness. The doctor was so lovely and friendly, explaining everything he was about to do and all the way along. The nurses had super big smiles on their faces and made me laugh and relax. They treated me with such kindness as they could see I was nervous. In recovery, the nurse looked after me so well again with such kindness and nothing seemed to be a problem. A lovely cup of tea made and custard creams given before I could go home. They were a credit to the hospital. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone who needs anything doing.

Just had my appointment (scan) tomorrow cancelled because the machine is broken. I received a phone call with no apology, they just told me it was broken and I'd get a phone call to rearrange. No acknowledgement as to arrangements that might have been affected or inconvenience caused. Just a bit of empathy and customer service goes a long way

I had a carpal tunnel release as an NHS patient, having been offered this hospital as an option, based on good reviews. Mr Shafighian was the surgeon. Everything was brilliant! My initial appointment, pre-op appointment and admission as a day case for surgery under local anaesthetic went to plan and I was very well treated. The nursing and reception staff were friendly and welcoming, the explanations were clear and the surgeon was charming, gave all the information I needed and performed an excellent operation with a great result. The cleanliness and efficiency were impressive and it’s clear that this is a happy and positive workplace.

I cannot praise this hospital enough. I have been suffering with Plantar Fasciitis for nearly three years. Saw Mr McAndrew in November and he arranged for a MRI scan and then steroid injections whilst having ultrasound. For the first time in years I can walk without pain. The staff here are all amazing and cannot do enough to make you feel at ease, this is from the receptionists to the consultants. Would thoroughly recommend to anybody. Bravo

If possible no stars from me. My husband's appointment was cancelled but we didn't receive any notification about it (phone, email and address are on his file) we are not local.

Wasn't there long enough to really comment. Building looked old and unkept from the outside but was sufficiently hospitalish inside. The doctor/nurse who went through my pre-op analysis was a legend though. Said she was from Canada, can't remember her name but very good with people obviously.

First interaction waiting to be seen for preop assessment. Over an hours wait without being told anything. NHS referrals appear not to be treated with care. An opinion on my part.

This place is an utter embarrassment to the medical profession. I was referred to them by the NHS went through an initial consultation and blood test. This was followed up by an ultrasound, in which, the operator rocked up late didn’t even spend 5 minutes looking before saying, “I can’t find anything” and leaving me to mop up with just the nurse present. I was not even surprised they didn’t find anything as the NHS had done a more fully comprehensive scan of all major parts and found nothing months earlier too. Waste of my time! About 2 months later I went in for a camera down the throat which was done well but I took a further 2 months of chasing them to get an answer of the results. Now with the results all negative and me having to chase them to see what happens next, I’ve been told, “I don’t know what it is. All the results and blood tests show nothing. You’ll just have to live with it.” Jokers! I’ve been, and still am, suffering with my condition for over 16 months now and no one can tell me what it is or what is causing it. To top it off these charlatans will probably hand the NHS a colossal bill for the poor service they have provided me. I just want someone to tell me what I have. Not give up because it’s too difficult for them to find out. If you can, avoid using this hospital. I’m not impressed with my service. It's back to my GP and back to the back of the queue for me. Thanks for nothing!

Awful phone system, multiple menus none of which are what I need. 7 minutes choosing useless options to get an answer phone.

Went for MRI today and I had a very positive experience. I was very very scared and just before starting, I said I can’t do it. But the radiologist(sorry if the designation is not right) Caroline (again sorry if I don’t spell it right) made me so very comfortable and took Time to convince me and make me do it, I honestly wouldn’t have done if it was not for her., thank you so much Caroline., Team-please pass on my special thanks and a big hug to her.,

I was recently here with my husband for him to have an op. The staff are all very nice. This is the opposite of the hospital itself. It was an extremely warm week and there is no air conditioning in the patient rooms and in most of the hospital. This is a health hazard in itself. It promotes bacterial growth, miserable patients that have come to be made better! I know we left feeling worse! I was not allowed to wait in my husband’s when he went for his op…told to maybe go home and come back! We live an hour away, so that was not an option. Made to sit in the shabby looking reception in the most uncomfortable chairs. As I had been here for hours the only type of cafe was a dirty coffee/tea machine. No cafe or cafeteria for visitors waiting for their loved ones. None of these things were addressed prior to coming. For the amount this place charges the insurance company this is just awful. I just hope we don’t have to ever come back to this place.

My husband who had never been in hospital in all of his seventy years was a bundle of nerves but of course would not admit it. On arrival at the Berkshire Independent Hospital we were greeted by a very polite receptionist who checked us in after a brief hiccup, we waited no time before we were taken to the ward . He was then greeted by two amazing nurses who treated him like an old friend and the laughter started, made him relax completely. Once all checks were done he was taken to theatre for his HoLep procedure by Mr Adam Jones ,a couple of hours later I got a call from my husband “ OMG I feel great, no pain I can’t believe that I’ve just had an operation” thanks to Mr Jones and his team he had the most amazing outcome. Post op care was second to none, from the nurses, catering staff, (great meals) cleaners. After leaving hospital he was called the next day to check that he was doing okay which was very re-assuring. Thanks to you all his quality of life has change so much it’s nice to see him getting back to his old self after only four days, so onwards and upwards from here.
