“Racist
Incident
Cardiology-Angiology
Practice
/
Links
der
Weser
Clinic”
Doctor
Ertan
Dogu
I
am
writing
to
you
today
on
my
father's
behalf,
as
he
still
cannot
fully
understand
what
he
has
experienced.
After
some
health
problems,
my
father
visited
the
cardiology
and
angiology
practice
in
Schwachhausen
in
February
and
left
the
clinic
with
a
reassuring
diagnosis.
He
was
also
allowed
to
travel
to
Turkey.
He
should
not
expect
any
physical
discomfort.
However,
his
condition
deteriorated
rapidly
there,
which
is
why
we
went
to
a
hospital.
After
some
investigations
there,
it
turned
out
that
the
diagnosis
made
in
Germany
was
inadequate.
Heart
valve
insufficiency
was
diagnosed.
After
his
return
journey,
he
was
seen
at
the
hospital
on
the
left
bank
of
the
Weser.
In
the
preliminary
discussion,
where
it
was
said
that
it
would
be
helpful
if
a
Turkish-speaking
doctor
were
consulted,
Mr.
ERtan
Doğu
was
assigned
to
us.
I
attended
the
appointment
with
my
father.
Even
before
we
had
the
opportunity
to
explain
what
was
going
on,
he
angrily
asked
why
my
father
needed
me
to
accompany
him.
The
answer
that
his
German
was
poor
was
obviously
so
unsatisfactory
for
him
that
he
raised
his
voice,
gesticulated
wildly
and
felt
he
had
to
express
his
incomprehension,
which
was
why
people
thought
it
was
okay
to
speak
to
him
in
Turkish.
He
wouldn't
understand
that,
especially
since
we
were
referred
to
Mr.
Ertan
Doğu
by
the
cardiology-angliology
practice
in
Schwachhausen
precisely
because
of
his
supposed
language
skills.
My
father
was
deeply
confused
by
the
fact
of
being
yelled
at
and
insulted
by
a
doctor
who
made
me
want
to
leave.
At
the
reception
there
was
a
friendly
lady
who
treated
us
with
understanding,
after
which
the
doctor
ran
after
us
and
shouted
that
we
would
not
be
treated
by
anyone
who
spoke
Turkish,
but
that
we
should
kindly
have
ourselves
examined
again.
The
desire
for
an
alternative
appointment
with
Dr.
with
Ali
Aydin
was
formally
forbidden;
Apparently,
according
to
the
so-called
doctor,
Dr.
med
Ali
Aydın
doesn't
speak
a
word
of
Turkish.
He
literally
said,
“They
don’t
get
an
appointment.
This
is
an
instruction!”
Having
been
so
patronized
and
racially
insulted
still
makes
us
think
back
on
this
encounter
in
disbelief.
Do
you
have
to
accept
discrimination
due
to
a
lack
of
language
skills
or
is
it
suddenly
forbidden
to
speak
foreign
languages
in
the
clinics?
No
facet
of
racism
has
any
place
in
public
spaces.
In
particular,
the
context
between
doctor
and
patient
should
be
one
of
trust,
in
which
one
should
certainly
not
be
approached
in
this
way.
We
will
now
contact
the
Bremen
Anti-Discrimination
Agency
and
report
on
the
abusive
doctor.
Unfortunately,
the
doctor
in
question
can
now
expect
a
report.
Not
because
we
think
that
there
could
be
no
other
solution,
but
because
the
person
named
did
not
allow
himself
to
be
spoken
to
and
we
want
to
work
on
behalf
of
other,
possibly
less
able-bodied
people,
against
such
structurally
protected
forms
of
psychological
abuse
and
degradation
.
