My son was admitted here for upper respiratory infection. We arrived here in a small corner with no were to sit/sleep. They started him on oxygen. 6 days later they discharged my son while I was gone to take a shower at home and his grandma was taking care of him. We had to return due to him not fully recovering and developing rsv/pneumonia. I give birth in 2 and a half weeks and they gave no care for my comfort. I originally was in a room with enough space to move around and while I was sleeping they woke me up and said I had to move all my belongings into a different room. I am now in a small corner and sleeping in a chair. Im am truly reconsidering giving birth here as they have treated me like complete garbage. It seemed like they were more in a rush to get my son out of here the first time then letting him recover. I hate that we are back here due to the doctors negligence. Anyone considering coming here please reconsider and go somewhere else. Update: the doctor had told me that my son has pneumonia so they administered antibiotics yesterday. Next day(today) I asked when the 2nd dose would be given and the nurse told me they cancelled the doses.. Without telling me or letting me know what is going on.

This hospital is terrible overall. My sons nephrologist is based out of renown so I had to admit him here for a bunch of tests. The nurses I had the first day were awesome and very attentive. The other nurses would take their time to do simple tasks. Then they told me I might be doubled up with another patient and their parent when I was not able to even have my husband come visit us at the same time. I was told if they doubled us up we would need to wear a mask the whole time except for sleeping! Which is absolutely insane and unsafe. They said I may at some point be doubled up and theres nothing I can do about it. My husband is currently immunocompromised from chemo and my son has chronic kidney disease as well as other issues. I can't wait to be out of here because I can guarantee that I will NEVER be back. I am appalled at how safety is of no concern and can guarantee that if they double me up I will be going elsewhere. My mother in law used to work here for over 10 years and warned me about how bad they are. No wonder they've had so many covid infections!

Brought my son in at 7pm. At 10pm I went to find out why my son hadnt been seen by a physician. The lady at the childrens desk said I cant tell you its based off need. So asked another desk clerk turns out they never called my name but dicharged my kid. Thompson was the name that they called more than once. I was told I can go thru triage again.... nope I may have thrown a fit to have my son seen. Waiting 45 mins to an hour later after the first 3 just for my kid to throw up right before discharge and then keep him longer. It is now 12am. I suggest if you want snail and lacking service bring your child down to this ER they wont fix you up in a hurry but they might make you wait for it.. Also previously for a broken arm my kid was sent home when he was actually supposed to have surgery, all because they didnt have time to get a proper x ray.. Isee nothing but wasting time here

The 2 stars is solely only because of the way Dr. Cantwell treated us. I want to start by giving kudos to Dr. Gould. She was compassionate, kind and knowledgeable. We luckily got her on the second attempt to treat our sons from respiratory side effects from COVID. The first attempt, after we monitored our toddler for 24 hours and the oxygen saturation was between 88-91 (went as low as 84) with the temperatures between 101-105F, and constantly wheezing with croup coughs, we decided to take him in, and we were seen by Dr. Cantwell. She immediately dismissed all of our concerns and brushed off the oxygen sat and said that our at home oximeter was inaccurate. But guess what, the hospital monitor showed the exact same low range of SpO2. His heart rate was so high trying to keep up breathing it was ridiculous. She didn’t give our son steroids and no O2 or any RT treatment. She basically sent us home saying because the chest x-ray was fine and in the future if our kid isn’t turning blue it doesn’t warrant an ER visit. I had to deal with my son at home with very low SpO2 and high fever all night, wondering if it was slowly killing my son’s organs. Complications are so easy to avoid if you proactively address issues quickly so what Cantwell said didn’t even make any sense to me. I followed up with my pediatrician the next day, who urged me to ‘immediately take our son into the ER’. Imagine that. Thank god we got Dr. Gould the second night. Both our 3-month old and our toddler immediately were given steroids. The triage nurse even made a comment that we should have gotten steroids on our first visit the night before. Our infant got O2+RT treatment. They were both carefully monitored for hours. We were only discharged when their oxygen sat was stable at 95-98, no fever, and totally normal heart rates. Even at discharge Dr. Gould made sure we knew that if anything concerning happens at all, don’t wait till the kids turn blue to take them in, come in immediately as the ER was open 24/7 and we so appreciate Dr. Gould for being such a wonderful doctor that she was.

I wish there were other hospitals to go to other than renown in Reno. My 8 month old was admitted for pneumonia and I’ve never seen nurses administer meds like the ones in renown. I mean is it normal for a nurse to pump Tylenol or Motrin into an infants mouth while blowing into their face? Or pump an overwhelming amount of solution into the infants nose while suctioning where they’re are choking?? Do everyone a favor and quit your job if you think this is an appropriate way to care for children!. It’s bad enough they’re already stressed and sick that you have to come in and rush meds down their throat because you’re in a hurry. I’ve worked in the Healthcare field and I could NEVER treat a patient, especially a baby, the way I’ve witnessed these nurses treat my son. I don’t even allow them to give my son meds anymore, I do it myself. I hate that this is the only children’s hospital in the area.

The worst experience with this MD Lauren M. Cantwell. She was very rude to me and my son. As a mother you would think that they will listen to your concerns about your children's health! The doctor was very inpatient and was replying to me with attitude she was mad, because my 1 year old wouldn't stop crying well he was sick and needed her help, but I guess all she care was he will stop crying and was in such a hurry to get of the room because of the baby crying. She was for sure very racist to us I could tell she did not like us because we are Latinos. I will for sure take this to the CEO of the hospital I can't believe she treated us like trash.

THEY OVER DOSED MY CHILD. My 3 month old was admitted for a simple surgery, we stayed over night for observation. They administered pain medication hydro-Tylenol mix. The nurse gave him 8ml of this and over dosed my 3mo. They had to give him Narcan because his heart rate wouldn’t go above 100bpm, and he wasn’t waking up by himself. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL.!

The doctor and nurses on staff are seriously some of the best people we have ever encountered. Thank you so much for taking care of our daughter so well. We are blessed to have people like you in our community. Thank you so much.

I’m so grateful that Renown has an ER specifically for children! The staff is knowledgeable and the facility is created with children in mind. They had us checked in and in front of a doctor within 10 minutes of being there. Coming from the Bay Area where ER wait times can be HUGE I am so pleased with how quickly we saw the doctor on a holiday weekend. I was emotional due to the nature of my son’s condition and the doctor truly put my mind at ease while they kept my son for treatment and observation. They had him fixed up and the discharge paperwork processed as soon as he was cleared for release. Really incredible facility and staff at Renown. Also, I delivered my son at Renown and had taken him to their Urgent Care in the past so all of his information was already in MyChart- I didn’t even have to take out his insurance card bc it was all still in their system! So convenient when we were there for an emergency situation. (Their Women’s group and labor and delivery were also phenomenal!) Thank you for truly providing quality care for all stages of life, Renown.

We brought our newborn son in with complications shortly after a home birth and the staff were amazing. They went way above and beyond to help my son and us with everything we needed. Im very grateful for their kindness and expertise. For being such a traumatic experience it was very positive as the level of care were received was so amazing. Thank you guys so much!

Brought our four week old son in due to stomach issues, and they provided prompt, exceptional care, staff was so gentle and accommodating, we were in a room quickly, ultrasounded, and cleared to go home in less than three hours. We drove from Winnemucca due to how horrible their hospital is. Worth the drive and we will be back.

It is by no means an easy job to care for the sick, especially when dealing with babies. Often the patients are tired and worried. We were no different as parents of a 7 month old baby. I think Renown medical professionals showed us the most respect and comfort they could while helping our baby cope with RSV complications. A HUGE THANK YOU from our family for helping our little girl get better as quick as we could. The week’s stay was made as enjoyable by friendly faces, thoughtful listeners, and, of course, the in-building Starbucks 🫡

Visiting out of state when my 1 year old was suddenly sick. They were super friendly and helpful. They got him in right away and gave him some medicine, he went from screaming all night to finally peaceful and could rest. The nurses were all helpful and kind as well as the doctor. So glad I came here.

This hospital is amazing for pediatric. After numerous doctor visits, emergency rooms at different departments and urgent care visits we were advised to bring my daughter to a Renown Children’s Hospital, where the staff right when we walked in we’re amazing got my daughter in right away and did all the test that we never had done on our last two visits at different medical centers. They ended up admitting us. To make sure my child got the right care and to make sure she was hydrated and back to herself before we felt comfortable leaving. The doctors never made us feel worried always answer their questions and helped our baby get back to herself. I will forever be grateful for this hospital and Their doctors. My husband and I really liked that the students were in there when they came and did their rounds made us feel like they were teaching them correctly how to care for patients and make sure everybody was on board. Thank you renown children’s hospital!
