*Update*
of
the
review
after
the
move:
Everyone
should
have
"their"
bookstore,
where
they
feel
comfortable,
enjoy
browsing
and
are
welcomed.
Mine
is
the
ALPHA
bookshop,
which
after
several
relocations
within
the
city
center
of
Gießen
is
now
located
in
the
Gießen
West
commercial
area.
I
have
to
admit
that
I'm
anything
but
happy
with
the
choice
of
location,
because
the
bookshop
is
no
longer
easily
accessible
for
cyclists
from
the
city
center.
But
one
thing
is
also
clear:
a
shop
has
to
earn
its
rent,
and
that
was
probably
no
longer
the
case
here...
Sure,
there
are
books
in
a
bookstore,
but
that
doesn't
make
them
special.
Nor
that
you
can
order
books
from
one
day
to
the
next
(it's
like
A.mazon,
only
local!).
It
also
has
its
own
online
shop,
which
is
now
standard
in
many
other
shops.
What's
even
more
unusual
is
that
the
ordering
service
also
applies
to
CDs,
and
they
often
arrive
overnight,
which
is
really
useful
if
you're
late
with
the
gifts.
But
the
ALPHA
bookstore
is
not
just
any
bookstore,
it
is
a
Christian
one.
This
is
really
unusual
in
today's
world,
because
secularization
is
progressing
more
and
more,
a
confrontation
with
faith
is
no
longer
as
natural
as
it
used
to
be,
even
if
there
are
large
and
many
small
churches
in
Giessen.
So
if
you
look
in
the
shop
window
or
enter
the
lovingly
decorated
shop,
you
will
see
cribs
and
crucifixes,
prayer
books
and
bibles.
But
the
range
is
by
no
means
backwards,
because
Christians
also
deal
with
developments
in
society:
there
is
of
course
also
literature
on
currents
such
as
"Church
from
below"
or
"Maria
2.0".
People
of
all
denominations
will
find
books
for
all
ages
here,
children,
young
people
and
seniors
are
also
addressed
here
and
you
can
always
be
sure
to
find
greeting
cards,
souvenirs
or
gifts
for
non-believers.
What
counts
most
for
me,
however,
are
the
people:
no
paper
saleswomen
work
here,
but
professionals
who
know
exactly
what
they
are
doing
and
who
they
are
dealing
with.
If
you
order
books,
you
have
to
say
your
name
-
sure.
However,
I
find
it
anything
but
natural
that
the
next
time
you
have
not
ordered
anything,
you
will
be
addressed
by
your
name.
I
haven't
mentioned
one
offer
yet:
the
fact
that
there
is
also
a
café
in
the
background
of
the
bookshop
should
not
go
unmentioned.
Here
you
can
enjoy
coffee,
cappucino
and
pastries
at
fair
prices
while
browsing
through
the
books.
And
the
whole
package
is
rounded
off
by
a
coupon
program
(there's
a
stamp
for
every
€10)
and
a
customer
toilet
(anything
but
a
matter
of
course!).
Clearly:
the
ALPHA
bookstore
is
my
choice
when
it
comes
to
literature
of
any
kind
and
I
hope
that
this
institution
and
the
people
in
it
will
stay
with
us
for
a
long
time
to
come.

*Update*
der
Rezension
nach
dem
Umzug:
Jeder
Mensch
sollte
"seine"
Buchhandlung
haben,
wo
man
sich
wohl
fühlt,
gerne
stöbert
und
willkommen
geheißen
wird.
Meine
ist
die
ALPHA-Buchhandlung,
die
nach
mehreren
Umzügen
innerhalb
der
Gießener
Innenstadt
nun
im
Gewerbegebiet
Gießen
West
verortet
ist.
Ich
muss
zugeben,
dass
ich
mit
der
Wahl
des
Standorts
alles
andere
als
glücklich
bin,
denn
für
Radler
aus
der
Innenstadt
ist
die
Buchhandlung
nicht
mehr
bequem
erreichbar.
Aber
klar
ist
auch:
ein
Laden
muss
seine
Miete
erwirtschaften,
und
das
war
hier
wohl
nicht
mehr
der
Fall...
Klar,
in
einem
Buchladen
gibt
es
Bücher,
das
macht
sie
aber
nicht
besonders.
Auch
nicht,
dass
man
vom
einen
auf
den
anderen
Tag
Bücher
bestellen
kann
(das
ist
wie
A.mazon,
nur
lokal!).
Auch
einen
eigenen
Online-Shop
gibt
es,
das
ist
inzwischen
bei
vielen
anderen
Läden
Standard.
Außergewöhnlicher
ist
schon,
dass
sich
der
Bestellservice
auch
auf
CDs
bezieht,
auch
die
kommen
oft
schon
über
Nacht,
was
echt
praktisch
ist,
wenn
man
mal
wieder
spät
dran
ist
mit
den
Geschenken.
Doch
die
ALPHA-Buchhandlung
ist
nicht
nur
irgendeine
Buchhandlung,
sondern
eine
christliche.
Das
ist
in
der
heutigen
Zeit
wirklich
außergewöhnlich,
denn
die
Säkularisierung
schreitet
immer
weiter
voran,
eine
Konfrontation
mit
dem
Glauben
ist
lange
nicht
mehr
so
selbstverständlich
wie
"früher",
auch
wenn
große
und
viele
kleine
Kirchen
in
Gießen
liegen.
Schaut
man
also
in
das
Schaufenster
oder
betritt
den
liebevoll
dekorierten
Laden,
dann
nimmt
man
Krippen
und
Kruzifixe
wahr,
Gebetbücher
und
Bibeln.
Doch
das
Sortiment
ist
keineswegs
rückwärts
gewandt,
denn
auch
Christinnen
und
Christen
setzen
sich
mit
den
Entwicklungen
der
Gesellschaft
auseinander:
so
gibt's
natürlich
auch
Literatur
zu
Strömungen
wie
"Kirche
von
unten"
oder
"Maria
2.0".
Menschen
aller
Konfessionen
finden
hier
Bücher
für
alle
Alterstufen,
auch
KInder,
Jugendliche
und
Senioren
werden
hier
angesprochen
und
man
kann
immer
ganz
sicher
sein,
Grußkarten,
Mitbringsel
oder
Geschenke
auch
für
Nicht-Gläubige
zu
finden.
Was
für
mich
jedoch
am
meisten
zählt,
das
sind
die
Menschen:
hier
arbeiten
keine
Papierverkäuferinnen,
sondern
Fachleute,
die
ganz
genau
wissen,
was
sie
tun
und
wen
sich
vor
sich
haben.
Wenn
man
Bücher
bestellt,
muss
man
seinen
Namen
sagen
-
klar.
Dass
man
aber
beim
nächsten
Mal,
wenn
man
nichts
bestellt
hat,
mit
seinem
Namen
angesprochen
wird,
finde
ich
alles
andere
als
selbstverständlich.
Ein
Angebot
habe
ich
bisher
noch
nicht
erwähnt:
dass
sich
im
Hintergrund
der
Buchhandlung
auch
noch
ein
Café
befindet,
darf
nicht
unerwähnt
bleiben.
Hier
kann
man
Kaffee,
Cappucino
und
Gebäck
zu
fairen
Preisen
genießen,
während
man
in
den
Büchern
schmökert.
Und
das
ganze
Paket
wird
noch
durch
ein
Coupon-Programm
(pro
10€
gibt's
ein
Märkchen)
und
eine
Kundentoilette
(alles
andere
als
selbstverständlich!)
abgerundet.
Ganz
klar:
die
ALPHA-Buchhandlung
ist
meine
Wahl,
wenn
es
um
Literatur
jeglicher
Art
geht
und
ich
hoffe,
dass
uns
diese
Institution
und
die
Menschen
darin
noch
ganz
lange
erhalten
bleiben.
