Lovely place with down home cooking. Their food, ambiance and service all top notch. We tried the pot roast with mashed potatoes and black eyed peas and hubi had chicken fried chicken with seasoned fries and their glazed carrots. The peach cobbler was a hit as well. It was all super tasty. Loved sitting by their large window and taking in the views and the music they played on the speakers was top notch. You won't be disappointed.

Went on a Saturday around 2pm. Pros: Service was good, we were seved by Monica and she is a good waitress. The okra was fried fresh and the peach cobbler was awesome. Cons: Chicken fried steak and the masked potatoes were bland and lukewarm. Tables were also sticky. Atmosphere is ok, but dated. All in all the String Bean is adequate, but won't be visiting a second time.

I recently tried the String Bean, and I'm conflicted about my experience. On the one hand, their food is downright amazing. But, and it's a big but, my enthusiasm took a hit when I noticed the mandatory gratuity on to-go orders. We all know tipping culture is a touchy subject, and the String Bean's approach is a prime example of why. I'm all for showing appreciation for great service, but being forced into a set tip on takeout feels like a bit much. I get it, the restaurant business has had its share of challenges, especially lately. But slapping on a mandatory tip for takeout seemed like a questionable move. Tipping should be a personal choice, reflecting the service you've experienced. Making it obligatory just takes away from the whole point of showing gratitude. Part of the allure of takeout is the convenience, right? Enjoying restaurant-quality food at home is a treat. However, the mandatory gratuity felt like an extra charge, making me wonder if it was more about squeezing every last dime from customers than ensuring a positive experience. In the end, as much as I'd love to rave about the String Bean's food with a solid five stars, the mandatory gratuity on to-go orders leaves a bitter aftertaste. It's a shame when an excellent dining experience gets overshadowed by a questionable policy.

Shame, because this is one of my Aunt Sharon's favorite go-to local restaurants. It's a cute place, and our waitress was nice, but lunch was mediocre. I chose the 'normal' meatloaf, which was really the same portion size as her smaller-size entree, and both sides were lukewarm. Our rolls and cornbread were both cold on arrival, but at least the butter was soft. We did finish with a slice of coconut cream pie, which was delightful and easily big enough for 2 to split.

You get 1 less star because the place smelled like raw sewage. But my Salmon dinner was top notch! The waiter was friendly. My husband was not as impressed. He ordered a Coke and Chicken Fried Chicken dinner with Brown gravy. He got a Dr. pepper with Chicken Fried Steak with white cream gravy. But he ate and drank anyway. But over all we liked the place.

Tempting cornbread, flavorful mashed potatoes, and rustic ambiance--that's all I need!!! Our waiter, Sterling, was genteel. As college football droned on, I made a note to make this my new comfort food go-to. The table was slightly sticky, however that can be easily improved. Don't miss Fish 'n chip Fridays!

I recently dined at a charming restaurant that left a lasting impression. The warm ambiance created a delightful setting, complemented by the attentive and friendly staff. From the moment I entered, I felt welcomed, and the culinary experience exceeded expectations. Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the chef's skill and dedication to quality. The overall atmosphere, coupled with the kindness of the staff, made it a memorable dining experience that I highly recommend.

A nice family restaurant for Southern food. My Chicken Fried Chicken didn’t fall off the plate. The okra wasn’t heated. Got zapped. I guessed there may have been a Happy Hour going for early birds. 🤷‍♀️
