I was at The Doorways from 6/28/22 until 7/20/22. In the 30 years that my daughter has been hospitalized this is the the best experience I've had, staying away from the hospital. The staff was INCREDIBLE... and the guest were wonderful as well. Beautiful, clean, friendly facility. Thank you so much

Thank you, Doorways, for your complimentary VCU Hospital's patient and guest accommodations... We really appreciate your hospitality for visiting loved ones who serve as support systems and caregivers for their sick loved ones. Located in the Heart of Downtown Richmond Historically driven hometown, the entire volunteer staff and VCU Hospital clinicals are a great team of clear care and concern that truly, are a blessing... 🙌 We rated your establishment a Diamond 💎 studded experience because you're a non-profit organization that serves the public as a way to help people, between healing and home... "Lightning the (load) and burdens of cost for lodging, food, and transportation. Although there is a small fee for lodging, we thank you for your empathy, compassion, and willingness, 'not to turn anyone away for the inability to pay. "Also, thanks for the Doorways administration team members' invitation for visiting guests to join in on the community's gathering celebration. With the governor and his lovely wife's thoughts and prayers for Doorways guests and healings of their loved ones hospitalized in hopes for a cure... 🙏 Thanks again, Doorways. It was a special visiting experience for us and our family... ❤️

Now, where do i start.. My grandmother was undergoing treatment at the VCU back in 2015. We spent almost 6 months here at The Doorways. First of all, an establishment like this one is such an amazing thing. The staff, the events that used to take place on each day of the week, the bingo nights, the dinners.. everything was really truly great. The people we met there are people that we will remember for the rest of our lives. During those difficult times, Richmond became our town and The Doorways became our home away from home. Thank you for being a place for people in need and the things you do.

If I can give more than 5 stars, I would! The Doorways has been a wonderful blessing to me and my family. When you first walk in, you are instantly greeted with warm smiles by the check in clerks. They are happy to help and answer any questions you have. The general areas as well as the rooms have a homey type of feeling. Just beautiful! I felt right at home and slept great. This was exactly the atmosphere I needed while going through a medical crisis. Thankyou!

Great place for your loved ones to stay when you're in the hospital! When I had surgery, my Mom was able to stay here. They include free shuttle rides to and from the hospital to visit your loved ones. They also Include 4 fully stocked kitchens, free laundry, chapel, common ares, gym etc. We stayed over Thanksgiving so the church provided the guests a huge dinner with all the comforts of being home. Amazing staff and volunteers!

This place is awesome and a lifesaver for patients of VCU hospitals to stay overnight if needed. I will make sure to send a donation very soon. I am so thankful to them!

What more can I say? Other than this is the absolute best organization yet! I delivered my beautiful baby girl at 30 weeks and had to stay in the hospital for a longer period than I thought. They have a special referral program for those parents or patients who live 30 miles or longer from hospital here in Richmond. They are always accepting donations to help the patients during their stay. Conveniently located to hospitals and transportation. I thank you doorways for providing this support until our beautiful girl comes home.

Doorways is amazing! We have stayed here a few times while navigating our sons cancer diagnosis and treatment. The staff is nothing short of phenomenal. They go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need and do it with a smile. Even at 1 in the morning.

A wonderful place! Everything you need in one place to rest and prepare/recover from procedures. A blessing for family caregivers who otherwise might have no other place to sleep through the night besides there families busy hospital room. A place they can eat a full healthy meal, and refuel the mind/heart. The only negative I could say is concerning the drop off parking area. There usually were no empty spaces and so an angry driver honked and yelled as I slowly tried to exit my vehicle at the door after surgery.

No easy parking. We were from out of town, not familiar with the area. Fearing we'd get towed or something would happen to our vehicle, We just decided to take the long drive back home and drive back the next day.

The attendant was professional and nice. The rooms need updating but clean. This place was a God sent. We saved so much money. I pray you continue to serve and bless families. There is no parking on the premises. we parked a few blocks away, then caught the shuttle back

I’ll try and be brief. I was released from VCUMCV Massey clinic today. Thanksgiving day, 2023, to be sent to the doorways for 1 to 2 week. Observation to ensure I do not get an infection or any other illness after my bone marrow transplant. My wife went to get us set up in the room and found the sheets had blood in urine stain on them. She then went to the refrigerators and found rotten food inside. And they were expire ration dates of August on some of the food in there which meant it had been sitting there an extra three months. even though VCU does not run or operate the doorways, they are an affiliate, and have been designated continued care apartments for their patients. My wife had to clean the refrigerator herself and was so disgusted by the treatment from the front staff it was too much to bear. She complained. to them, but apparently it upsets some of the workers there they put trash underneath her personal blanket as a punch back from her complaining. Enough people have been informed via phone calls and messages and also with the VCU staff that something will be done. But it was so bad. The doctors allowed us to take me home. and heal up there. Good luck.

The nicest people! The rooms were cozy & quiet. The hotel was located only 4 blocks from the hospital so I was able to walk back & forth to spend as much time as possible with my honey while he was recovering from surgery. Spent 2wks there & not once did I have an issue! They even cooked dinner most evenings & always invited me to grab a plate. I couldn't be more thankful for such a blessing. Bless everyone who's a part of The Doorways, you guys are angels in disguise! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts ~Love, Bam & Luap~

The Doorways is a marvelous facility dedicated to the healing and wellness of individuals who are undergoing or recovering from various medical problems and procedures. This is a nonprofit organization that caters to everyone regardless of station in life. The staff and volunteers insure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Their dedication and cheerfulness are indeed part of the healing process. Just about every need any individual need is provided, ie. clean linen, sundries, food and frequently, meals cooked by volunteer organizations or individuals. All in all The Doorways is a Godsend to the community.

I didn't know anything like this existed, the staff is super friendly, the guests are super friendly, the rooms were nicer thab some modern hotels I've stayed in. It was such a relief to know I had somewhere to go every night my son was in the hospital. They have a huge community kitchen, vending machines, a library, computer, printer TV room among other things. My stay here was more comfortable and enjoyable than the one night I could afford to stay at a hotel.

My friend and I came to The Doorways on July 8th 2022 because he needed immediate eye surgery. The staff was very welcoming and the Doctor's were great. This place is so clean and very comfortable. However, the receptionist named Carolyn on the afternoon shift was unpleasant to work with. She threw us out because we had checked out to go home and was just waiting for our ride. She stated that we had to wait outside and not in the building. I felt that she was rude and uncaring in this situation. Other than that, the stay was very, very pleasant. Thanks Doorways. :)

I can't recommend these folks enough. Good lodging within walking distance of the hospital with a shuttle service? That alone is 4 stars for me. It's the wonderful staff that pushes it to 5 for me. They were so kind and helpful despite me being all over the place.

A Godsend for those in need. Parking is not permitted. You can drop off and load only. There is a method for parking especially if you are going to VCU. Food is provided but if you have certain likes and dislikes load your own snacks and drinks. There is a laundry room and lots of kitchen space with things you need to cook. Single beds. Support teams. Lots of pluses. It is truly great for those with long medical recovery.

My experience here last week was more than welcoming. The environment was great. The purpose and mission of The Doorways are both beyond heart warming. Thank you for your continued hard work and dedication providing shelter and food to those in need!

I stayed here for a week while my dad was recovering from major surgery at VCU, and I'm convinced every hospital should have a facility like the Doorways. The staff were always so helpful and kind, and the amenities were plentiful - with access to full kitchens and even prepared meals. Just a quick 10 minute walk from the hospital, with frequent shuttles provided too. This place was a bright spot during my family's tough time, as I know it is for hundreds of people each year. Thank you, Doorways!
