Pretty to walk around, especially in the summer. Although I feel this place does have some much more potential. E.g. better cafe would be great.

The Rietberg Museum) is a museum in Zurich, Switzerland, that displays Asian, African, American and Oceanian art. It is the only non-European art museum in Switzerland, it is the third largest in Zurich, and the largest museum run by the city itself. In 2007 it welcomed nearly 157,000 visitors. The museum was established in 1952.

Great Pathways of Art tour of the permanent collection, including careful critiques of acquisition and provenance. Also: excellent cafe!

A charming museum with interesting global exhibitions. The lady at the gift store and ticket office is the best thing about the museum. She is inviting and so cheerful and knowledgable. The gift shop is EXTRAORDINARY. Currently there are amazing, amazing items from Japan. It is the best curated museum gift store in Zurich for sure! I did not find the Kimono exhibition as exceptional as it could have been but that could be due to the fact that I lived in Japan and have seen them in real life.

My favorite museum in Zürich! It’s very interesting and has a lot of exhibits to see. I was amazed by exhibitions from Asian countries and Buddhas statues, very relaxing place. Has a cafe and park on its territory. Will definitely come back.

Reviewing the place for the awesome small cafe that they have. We visited the cafe in summer wanting to try their picnic offer, but did not realise that you'll need to book at least 3 days before. The lady at the counter probably saw how disappointed we were and offered a picnic basket and mat for us, with the pastries and sandwiches on display, so we can have a pseudo 'picnic'. Really appreciate her going beyond her duty to make our experience better. The sandwiches and dessert were also absolutely delicious, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely with our first summer picnic experience in Switzerland. Highly recommend it but remember to book three days in advance!

I've been happy to come back to this ethnographic/non-European art museum in Zurich and enjoyed my second visit so it's a good sign :) The historical building is nice and so is the garden surrounding the building. The exhibition spaces are underground, but the space is nice and pleasant to walk around. Good display of the collection ; and it's the second time I see a temporary exhibition here, and they were both beautiful and interesting (on Japanese art and this time on Jainism). It's been quite calm for both my visit even if it was the weekend.

when I went to the Sammlung collection I met a museum employee (not a doorman) who asked for my ticket, I said that my ticket was with my son who was still downstairs heading here but at the same time there was a pair of people who entered past this employee who were not asked for a ticket even though they don't have tickets attached to their shirts...I feel this employee's behavior is unprofessional and a little racist because I'm Asian, while the couple who passed by he didn't ask were Europeans

A really nice coffee place inside a beautiful renovated building. The staff is friendly and the chocolate cake is one of the best I ever tasted. If you want a break from the busy city the Rieterpark is perfect for you.

Anthropology and art together. Great permanent exhibition. The guest exhibitions are often excellent too, sometimes a bit too academic (tons of text and all hyper politically correct)

A lot of reliquaries, artifacts and antiques from all over the world. Doesn't get full five stars because one of the assistants when approaching for clarifications just says she can't speak English. Unfortunately, working in a museum and contacting with people all over the world seems to me quite of a pre-requisite that one needs English understanding. The management should be more careful with this. Other than that it's a recommended visit.

Beautiful park in the city of Zurich, district 2, Zurich-Enge, everything looks great in the best Swiss maner, even the small restaurant with garden looks like a stage for a theater or film scene. Excellent prepared healthy food for lunch available. Congratulations.

An exceptional small museum with a rich collection of artifacts and images primarily from Asia and Africa. The organization of the work was very well conceived and executed, and the building along with the grounds are worthy of experiencing just on their own merits. What a building! I viewed a special exhibit on Jainism and it touched me deeply. I will say I was also struck by the frequent mention of colonialism and exploitation in the acquisition of many of the marvelous works we were viewing. It is not a healing but it is an acknowledgment and that is sn important first step.

Always interesting exhibitions. Somehow I found this time that it was very dark inside and had a hard time to see the Japanese exhibition. Manga exhibition was with light and easy to read and see. Maybe they have to protect the images, but it was hard to see and my eyes are fine. Nice terrace for a drink lovely park to walk, sit or have a picnic. Worth a visit, maybe relax, if not invaded by kids

This museum is definitely my favorite! The only place in Zurich where different types of art can be found: traditional art, modern art, ancient treasures, handmade, movies. Furthermore, the surrounding area is astonishing and if the weather is nice I highly recommend to go on a picnic. If you have a dog there are several hills where you can walk with your lively pet.

The museum itself is wonderful, as well as the garden surrounding it! I especially recommend a visit if you are looking for a break from the usual crowded tourist spots of Zürich.

A grand estate converted to house a plethora of archeological finds (with more masks than you can shake a head at) from around the world. The collections are extensive, especially the Chinese porcelains. Museum Rietberg is like a big old tree. Grand on the surface that has deep roots. The roots analogous to the many exhibition rooms located on the lower floors. There are so many examples in each of the rooms, it can feel overwhelming. Still, there is a great place to relax if you feel the need. The cafe opposite the ticket office has a fine collection too, of cakes and hot drinks.

Been donating to this museum for a few years now. Its a pretty great place and has some fantastic curated collections. The most recent Jade exhibit was a bit of a let down but normally I do enjoy what they have to offer. Surprisingly the gift shop is really good.

Visited as it was open during the Swiss National Day. Well organised and catalogued collection with paid entry even though the red house was a distance away. We got lost after getting on the wrong track to the right of the ticket office. Nevertheless, enjoyable collection even though the narrative of the collection could be better. I wished we allotted more time for the permanent and special collection. Will be back if I’m in Zurich.

Great museum if you are interested in arts and cultures that are from Africa, Asia or the Americas. High quality in special exhibitions as well (international touring exhibitions with high profile partner institutions). They are now trying to discuss the questions of provenance more actively. Still, it’s origin is of course rooted in a colonial ideology. I look forward to see how this will be revised and questioned critically.

Although the lockdown hasn't been fully lifted, Museum Rietberg is open even on Sunday. There is a temporary exhibition shown in the Park-Villa Rieter, no need to buy tickets. And the park during mid spring will lift spirits of the visitors. (The museum is closed on Monday.)

After going to the national museum I think this one is better. So many pieces to view and they even let you into the storage area. The special exhibit mirrors was interesting and easy to follow even in English with the provided guidebook. The entrance fee of 25 CHF is standard for Switzerland. Come visit and enjoy this contemporary museum.
