The Museum of Five Continents is a smaller ethnographic museum that has uneven collections of ethnographic art and artifacts that have been assembled from various sources around the world by collectors from Munich. While the collections of the museum may not be as impressive as those found at larger and richer siblings, the place oozes charm. I was easily won over by the lack of pretense and the subtle messages of some of the exhibits. I was particularly impressed by the Burmese and Japanese exhibits and some of the wondrous African finds. If you live in Munich or are spending enough time in the city, don't miss it.

I don't usually like museums cause I think they can be quite boring, but I really enjoyed this one. I liked learning about different cultures and even if you don't want to read the information they provide about each piece/region, there's still lots of cool figures and masks to look at. Especially for €5 I definitely recommend it. It was interesting and only took us ~1 hour.

This museum is a treasure. You get to see different cultures by walking through the rooms after another. What makes this experience more astonishing is the usage of local sounds in some areas via loud speakers. I got goosebumps just because of that. Marvelous and memorable experience.

You start by seeing pieces of art from Islamic countries and as you walk you see fabulous African headpieces and statues and cultural information about Asia and India and then Africa and South America. The only surprise was that SOME of the labels AND even display boards were only in German and they said they plan to translate all to English. There are benches here and there to sit on. They have a back door entrance for wheelchair. The staff were very friendly.

I really enjoyed the exhibit rooms about Myanmar, they were immersive and very interesting. The other exhibits were very traditional and a bit boring, with lots of pots, ceramics, etc. behind glass. The inclusion of modern pieces from contemporary artists from each continent was great, would have liked to see more of this! All in all, a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The Sunday price is reduced to €1, which was excellent value.

Happy to learn different cultures from the five continents! This museum has quite a collection of arts and crafts which are well arranged in different continental and countries' theme in the form of social-economic cultures, wars, and people! It's centrally located in the city, hence hard to miss it!

Beautifully done! I was here from people from an cultural place represented-they lived it and felt a little at home. There isn't as much information written down as in other places but the objects exhibited tell stories on their own!

located in the middle of maximilianstrasse and with magnificent exterior. the entry is 1euro on sunday and it is very organized. you have the first floor for exhibition and trips of German historian to Japan and Myanmar and everything related to far east and India. on the other side you have artifacts from Orient and pacific tribes. the second floor is for Africa, nord and sud America tribes and old civilizations. the tour took around 1.5 hours and will give you good information on people from different backgrounds. there's a brochure available at 3.5 euros for each continent to have all the missing information in your pocket.

Extensive collection of art from allover the world. Hard to find elsewhere artifacts from North American Indian cultures. Largest japanese buddhist temple sculptures outside of Japan. Small but visually pleasing exhibition of Islamic culture. Caveats: 1. no coffee shop inside 2. many descriptions are in German only.

It’s a very interesting museum and part of 1€ entrance on Sundays. I used audio guide in the app and it was easy and useful. It’s also children friendly. The only thing I would improve is translating some of the objects descriptions into English (some were in German only).

Very interesting exhibits. Friendly staff. It is very convenient that there is an elevator for those who have difficulty climbing the stairs. We will definitely come back again. Outerwear is left in the wardrobe, things are not cared for in any way.

A good variety of exhibitions with interesting things! Satisfying exposure of all the objects to the public! Ideal for a tour, which takes about an hour. The only negative for the non-german talking people is that the english translation is only limited to certain objects.

What a wonderful museum! Being able to view the artwork, culture, and music from five continents in one beautiful place was a great experience. It took most of the day, but it was worth the time. The small food area provided a chance to sit, eat and take a small lunch break, or enjoy a cappuccino. The gift shop offered many interesting, unusual items at reasonable prices.

Since I am not much into museums, I dont think I am the correct person o comment on this. But good ambience and if you are a history lover, you might like it. I liked the garden around the area and walking along the garden at the evening time was good.

(Translated by Google) In times when traveling has become difficult, the Museum of the Five Continents is a great way to satisfy the wanderlust for foreign cultures. On Sundays for only 1 € you can travel among other things in the Orient, to Africa, Asia, America and my personal highlight to Oceania. No museum in French Polynesia is as beautifully prepared as the special exhibition of the Marquesa Islands (separate € 6 admission).

(Translated by Google) Well, I don't find it particularly spectacular. Fortunately, it is centrally located and not too big so that you can walk through it quickly. The gentleman at the entrance seems to at least consider himself to be state authority or health police. Why friendly when you can take out all your deadlines and bad moods on the guests. With a mask definitely nothing where I would take someone visiting Munich with me (Original) Naja, besonders spektakulär finde ich es nicht. Zum Glück ist es zentral gelegen und nicht zu groß sodass man zügig durchgehen kann. Der Herr am Eingang scheint sich zumindest für sie Staatsgewalt oder Gesundheitspolizei zu halten. Remarkable museum, which opens its African gallery and its American Indian documentation with a discussion of ethnological practice, pointing out the hypocrisy of orientalism and how it damages our understanding of other cultures. My german was unfortunately not good enough to fully take advantage of the museum. Some of the galleries have well-developed translations, others not so much. Still well worth a visit, I learned a lot. I hope to return in a few years and see if there is more information on display.

(Translated by Google) A very pleasant museum. Objects of the past centuries, customs, traditions. There really is something to see. The museum has an additional room with a temporary exhibition, but you have to pay for it separately. The site of the museum is located in one of the small palaces. Some rooms have decoration with paintings, which is not related to the meaning of the museum, it belongs to the building itself. You can slowly walk around one floor in an hour. The museum has lockers where you can put your things, you need to have a 1 euro coin with you, which you can then pick up.

Sometimes you really feel like you're on vacation. The upper floor is a bit boring, but there is still enough exciting to see and the exhibition on Africa is also very well done. We were about 2-2.5 hours in the museum, a visit is definitely worth it for the Sunday price, but certainly worth seeing at the normal price! (Translated by Google) You are in good hands in the museum on a rainy Sunday. After standing in line, things went relatively quickly. The Orient and Oceania exhibition is pretty boring, the showcases are dusty and partly blind. The supervisors made me look bored. One of these gentlemen apparently still had enough time to read his newspaper in peace, despite the large number of visitors, and was therefore not very interested in the visitors. On the other hand, the women from the supervisory staff were very friendly and helpful. The air in the entire museum, including in the special exhibitions, was catastrophic. All in all, except for the negatives, a nice afternoon and maybe this review will help make some changes.

(Translated by Google) Due to Corona everything that was intended for children was really blocked (Indian tent, crawling tunnel or fairy tale room). Children are not allowed to touch anything. Unfortunately currently not recommended with children. The individual exhibition rooms are generally very interesting. Unfortunately, there is a lack of sufficient basic information. There is also hardly any digital offer on site. I think a breath of fresh air with modernization ideas would be appropriate here. Comparatively small museum. The exhibits are neatly presented but much of it is only in German, so as a tourist you may find yourself missing out on a lot. There is a kid friendly focus, you can even hold kid’s birthday parties here! The ever changing special exhibitions are worth keeping an eye on. Did not seem too crowded on a Sunday, even with the one euro entry fee.

By far one of the most exciting museums I've been to. Ethnologic collection of artefacts of everyday life, ritual objects and works of art from all parts of the world you can find there is so vast and rich. A definite must visit if you are interested to learn about new cultures, lifestyles and places you never been to. It was a hidden treasure I stumbled upon just walking around a city that gifted me with so much new knowledge and life perspectives. I was also lucky enough to visit during Koji Shibazaki special paper installations exhibit, which just added a perfect "icing" on a complete surprise "cake" I fully enjoyed that day😆👌

Lovely 2 level museum, very nice to visit on a Sunday, especially since the entrance is only 1 euro.

This was a nice surprise, I wasn't expecting much from this museum but it was very good. There are a lot of different exhibitions with different vibes.

I think that not all 5 continents are covered in current exhibition or I have skipped some rooms. It was very interesting experience and especially so for very old trips in Asia by museum directors and employees. But what shocked me was video message in South American room where young native from Amazonas commented on current issues there but also on the genocide done by European colonizers bringing them so called civilization and religion and almost exterminating them mostly by diseased but also more advanced weapons. Speech is very powerful and indeed nothing changed as we are now destroying Earth as well. You can only fell ashamed after hearing her.

This museum definitely has an amazing collection of art and ornaments, but unfortunately for people who are not german speakers for many of them there is no explanation in English, so they could be understood correctly. Also the AC was not working and it was quite hot during our visit.

One of the best exibitions in Munich would be 5 stars BUT almost nothing is in english so the museum isn't tourist friendly. Would recommend to see many interesting pieces of culture but prepare that you won't be able to broaden your knowledge without google translator

The best exhibition is the Native American, which is impressive. The others, I feel are not worth seeing.
