Arthur maybe "awful", but his food is not and neither is his restaurant. Great service, food, and atmosphere. Oysters, mango mint drink, shrimp combo plate.... all very delish. Good ambiance and no wait downtown on a Saturday night. We bailed on Three Notched to come here instead. Very pleased with that decision. (No offense to Three Notched, that place looked cool too). Highly recommended!

My fiancé and I were traveling through and stopped in Roanoke for the night. Our front desk clerk suggested this place for dinner and we were very excited for some seafood in a casual setting (as we were not trying to spend two hours on a formal dinner). I know this place is called awful Arthur’s but we did not expect such an experience. We got seated and submitted our order at 9:16. Bar was a bit busy so drinks took about 20 minutes, which is not crazy. About 45 minutes in, we received our appetizer of 6 shrimp. About an hour and a half later we received our entrees. Our waitress who was running around and doing the best she could explained they only had one cook as the other walked out. She was great and very apologetic and advised she would check if they could offer any discount. We did not inquire about one but were appreciative. She came back to let us know that Dan, the off duty manager that was drinking at the bar, refused to offer anything. I am a manager in hospitality and completely understand when things happen out of your control. Instead of sending the message along, it would’ve been professional to offer an apology instead of hanging your employee out to dry. In addition, maybe assisting your cook instead of downing beers and watching your team members flail. Never coming back here again and suggesting our hotel to maybe not recommend them. To the sweet waitress who tried her best, thank you and I hope they know your worth!

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch today. The food was great, especially the coconut shrimp and the home made key lime pie! Service was perfect. Brooke was absolutely the best! Thank you for such an enjoyable time :)

Had a friend came to town for a visit, neither one of us had ate at Awful Arther’s before…so glad we checked it out- the food was excellent, waitress was very attentive and friendly! Had such a wonderful experience we went back the next day to try other food. Will definitely visit again!

If you order delivery from this place, don't use Door Dash. Door Dash picked up my food and never delivered it to the hotel where I am staying. The restaurant refused to do anything to help claiming it was up to Door Dash to fix. Didn’t even offer an apology. I could hear the hostess tell the manager (Dan?) that she "explained things to the guy but he just doesn't get it". I got it. No interest in good customer service. At least they gave me the phone number. I spent 20 minutes both on the phone and a chat session while waiting for Door Dash to fix things. I wanted a redelivery as I had been driving for several hours today. Hopefully Door Dash will pick up and deliver my order this time. I won't order anything from this place or use Door Dash again the next time I am in Roanoke. Redelivery worked. Food was OK. Nothing special. Should have read the negative reviews. Hope I don't get sick like others as I have to get up at 6 am to take our dog to the Virginia Tech Cancer Center and go visit my wife in Carillon Memorial Hospital.

Very spacious and loving seafood bar. Food and atmosphere are excellent. Nice prices on everything. There prep and finishing test are in the tops in the region. Lunch is amazing. Get the fish sandwich. 2 for 1 Crabs usually on Tuesday. Nice bands and DJ'S pre Corona.

I had never been here before but met some friends for a drink on a Saturday and dang it was busy! Also St. Patrick’s month I guess? Drinks are over priced ($6 domestic draft) as you would expect from a bar downtown and food is on the more expensive side as well. Nothing crazy unique about this place but apparently if you are looking for a weekend crowd it’s the place to be. Service was good despite the crowd. There are for sure better local places to check out in Roanoke before you end up here.

This was my second time coming here and both times the food was good. Had a shrimp po boy and the shrimp were decent size surprisingly. The service was ok but the food was amazing. Definitely will come back and I definitely recommend them for good seafood.

When I looked up Awful Arthur's on Google maps it seemed fairly easy to get to. When we arrived, I'll say the same. However, once inside, the music was so loud and I could find their was no band just prerecorded music. Apparently the volume was just set there because of the ambiance of the place, but it was largely empty. The server was attentive and friendly and the overall food and service was great. Again however, when you can't hear what the person sitting next to you said, it's too loud. I'm also visually impaired so imagine going into a rock concert, of a group you don't know in a language you don't speak for an hour to have a birthday meal. Partly because my misunderstanding of what the atmosphere was and I guess partly on AA's part of not knowing how to turn down the volume a little, but we won't be coming back.

I sat at the bar. Loved the fish and chips, lightly breaded and in my opinion the perfect crisp to tender. I don't like a lot of batter/too crispy. Monday special is an insane deal. Both bartenders were very attentive and quick to answer questions. Victoria was my main bartender and she was great.

Staff were amazing from our waitress to the bus boy. The steam chef went out of his way to insure we had a great time. They treated our granddaughter light royalty. Will be back for sure.

Everything was fine expect the food. Just felt like a bit of a rip off but mostly the oysters were poorly prepared and didn't taste clean. Just leaving this for genuine feedback. Please have someone who is properly trained prepare the oysters. It was clear not much effort was put into the prep, the muck on the outside of the oysters had gotten in and fouled the inside when the were shucked and served. Truly not trying to hate, but the experience would have been worth it if I had wanted to continue eating them. It was even more disappointing because they were slow and we were one of only a couple other tables in the restaurant.

Based on the foodie reviews we decided to check it out. Since my wife and I both have dietary restrictions, this seemed to fit the bill. The food was very good however it ended up being basically a bar that sells seafood. It was dark and I could not see much. The music was quite loud and I don't believe it was live but rather just turned up over the ambient noise. Maybe 20 years ago it would've been fun, but it felt like a red lobster with party music blaring and the lights off. Sorry Arthur but we probably won't be back.

Food was great. Service could have been better. Waitress was nice but seemed distracted, but maybe she was new. Bartender only seemed to be interested in the 2 young men at the bar. Took awhile to get the limes that should have came in our drinks. They were out of many things and we were not informed until after we ordered. We ordered the sampler which included clams, but told us they were out, as they brought the food to the table. But we will try again.

We went for lunch for the 1st time. I ordered crab ragoon and crab legs and my fiance got the shrimp and chips. Both were very good. A little on the pricey side but not outrageous. The atmosphere was nice not too busy as I said it was lunch time. And the server who may have been new was very kind And on top of checking That we had everything we needed.

They always have great food and drinks. Nuke, Victoria, Connor, and Jennifer are awesome! Scott (the manager) always speaks and makes us feel at home. One of the best places I patronize.

This place is historic- not just the location. It's a longtime favorite. It isn't just nostalgia, the food is steadily great. Thanks for having cute little cans of tomato juice to accompany my beer, which completes my favorite comfort "meal" with calamari. The flavor of the marinara is spot-on, as well. The servers were kind and the hostess accommodated my request to sit in a booth just so I could be comfortable after a long day. I was alone and the booths are very large. It was a ridiculous proportion but I was grateful!

My girlfriend and I stopped by for some seafood the other day. We got seated immediately and the bartender greeted us, took our drink orders and food order. I had the oysters Rockefeller and my girlfriend got the steamed crab legs. The drinks were perfect and the food was fast and hot. Over all it was a great experience.

Fun, fast, friendly service during restaurant week here at Awful Arthur’s. Had the fish and chips with a beer and was highly delighted. Lisa who was bartending really gave some good vibes and great service!!!

So my jeep group has done a few events in the area and our first time visiting your restaurant we had Jessica as our server. She was attentive to everyone in our group of 15+ giving recommendations on drinks and food. She made time to joke and trash talk with us which made us feel at home. We've been back a few times since just to come see her and that contagious energy. And the delicious food doesn't hurt. She's one of those people that drive repeat business with whatever she does. Y'all are lucky to have her. Thanks for all you do from your local jeep peeps😉

Food was not worth the money, we left almost a full steak because it was so bad and we were never asked if there was anything wrong. A good server would notice uneaten food and make sure their guests were happy, not ours, just wanted to know if we wanted a to go container. Even after saying no, still not asked if there was anything wrong with the steak. I paid by credit card and it was the most uncomfortable situation having the server hold the hand held while I paid and had to put her tip in as she is standing over me watching. I will never go back and would not recommend to anyone. Their name truly and honestly represents the restaurant.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Awful Arthur’s. We went on a Friday evening around 8pm; it was fairly quiet, but the atmosphere/ambience is upbeat and energetic. The food came out quick and Lisa provided exceptional and accurate service. I had the fried crab cake sandwich and my wife had the fish and chips. Both were delicious and the portions were generous! The Old Bay seasoned French fries were tasty as well. We will definitely be back!
