It was our first time there and after seeing some questionable reviews I was skeptical. I took my 9 year old there last Monday and we loved it!! Very friendly staff, loved the animals and the scenery was beautiful!

The place is nice and clean. Its a small zoo but you can see a lot of animals. Good for family bonding especially with your kids. It has also have a little playground inside the zoo. You can also ride a train if your tired of walking. They are open 9am to 5pm but last admission is at 4pm.

This was fun the kids loved it. This zoo is on the very top of a mountain. Never seen anything like it they have a little train that you can ride around the park over seeing the mountain view of down town it was really cool and it wasn't much money either. We will definitely go back again next time we are in the Roanoke Virginia are.

Just went here, it was amazing, they had Crane, Snow Leopard, Red Fox, Lynx, Birds, Otters, Raccoons, and more, the snow leopard was so beautiful, it was $12 per adult ticket, which I think is pretty good, some animals was asleep, but that's to be expected throughout the day.

A nice, quiet, shaded diversion in Roanoke! The zoo has some unique exhibits, and has quite a bit to offer all things considered. Even so, if you are accustomed to Asheboro zoo or something similar, this isn't apples to apples. It's fun in its own right, though, and if you take time to read the exhibits you can be through in about an hour. No complaints here, but I didn't give it the full 5 starts because it is a touch expensive considering the size.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Mill Mt Zoo! It was fun going with a local resident, recounting the wonder and excitement of his childhood visits. We picnicked near the Star too. Great day!

A cute little zoo. We got to see feeding of the black bear and lynx. The snow leopard was also a highlight. Wish the zoo chop was operating. Nice grounds with nearly Mountain Views.

I've lived here for several years and my first time to the zoo was enjoyable. I wish I had gotten to two zookeeper names that was so helpful and informative on the animals as we admired the eagle Elsie. You both made the visit that much more exciting. The little zoo in comparison to the one from my home area the Bronx was all the better due to the great staff. Keep up the great job caring for the animals and guest that visit.

I haven't been here since I was a kid. I came back from Virginia Beach to see my family and came for a visit with my husband so he can see the part of my childhood. I hate that I missed Ruby. She peaked my interest in animals as a kid and I follwed her my whole life and have all the newspaper clippings about her. We enjoyed our visits. It was great seeing the animals being thoroughly taken care of!!

Kids are going to think it's awesome. Adults are going to think it's a sad sight. Very run down, small, rather boring unless you're a child. It is very cheap though so that's a plus and does have beautiful views. It so desperately needs real donations. The gift shop is SO expensive though 🤯.

Love this zoo. It's a bit on the small side but packs a lot to see. All the large cats are fantastic and the red panda was cute as heck. The large tortoise by the entrance was a highlight for me.

Admission is $10 for Adults. We booked it online & saved a couple of $. We spent an hour here. It's a small Zoo, better for the kids not adults. We waited for the train ride but it was closed for the season. Some of the cages were really small such as for the Burmese python, Snow Leopard.

Nice quiet zoo with exotic animals that we ordinarily wouldn't see elsewhere. Zoo is tucked into the side of a mountain so have your walking shoes ready. Trees also provide ample shade. Exhibits are stroller and wheel chair accessible still. Staff was friendly and gave great talks on the animals.

This was a nice small zoo. It would be good as a date night. Dont expect it to take a long time to go through the entire zoo. It takes about 1 hour to complete. The signs were very good, and I felt like I had learned a lot. The place was nice and clean. There were some stairs that would make it hard for a wheelchair or a stroller, but the park is small enough that you can walk around to still see the animals.

Relatively small zoo but they have a red panda, Pallas cats, bald eagles, a snow leopard, a red wolf, and many more animals to enjoy! The staff are so kind and knowledgeable and take the time to answer any questions. Since it’s up on Mill Mountain you also get a great view of Roanoke.

Well this is a must to visit if you're in Roanoke. Nothing much to see, I mean there is plenty of trails and a small zoo which costs around 10.and 12 bucks adults and kids. The most is the Star and the over look. Good place to have a picnic with family.

Surprisingly large variety of animals and exhibits for what seemed to be a smaller local zoo! Favorites were the bald eagle, Burmese python, blue dart frogs, lynx, red panda… I can’t choose a single top favorite! That said, the reptiles & amphibians house was one major highlight for me seeing as I’m a big fan of frogs & snakes. We came in the winter so some animals weren’t out where they would be visible to guests, and some parts of the zoo were temporarily closed, but there was still a lot to see even so. On the plus side, it was not at all crowded on a cold weekday morning. Had fun briefly checking out the gift shop too, they had a lot of cute plushies. There was an on site food stand, but it was closed during our visit. Likewise for the train tours. I would definitely come here again, especially in the warmer months when there will be even more to see.

This place was $10 a person if you buy online it’s $9.95 I believe. It’s little and you do a lot of walking! Wear comfy shoes! There are parts of the zoo that are not stroller friendly.

Though a smaller zoo it was a nice first time for our kids. Staff friendly and kind. Zoo was kept nice and clean. Animals were well taken care of. I do recommend it for a short weekend outing, it was fun.

Very well kept and nice staff. The enclosures have plenty of room. Its very small. Ive been to road side attractions that have more animals. If you are planning a visit. You can linger and see all the animals there in less than an hour.

Good place for young kids. It has nice flow and a good amount of small animals. Couple of larger animals but bear and bald eagle cant be seen right now due to construction. Concession was pretty bad but not main reason you go to zoo.

Great zoo. We went on a Monday. The staff is polite and friendly. The cafe is only open on weekends and we were really looking forward to eating there. It's clean and there's plenty of seating if you need to rest.Could use newer signage about the animals. Maps throughout the zoo would be great too. The animals were all outside, a suitable playroom for all animals. it's huge.Expect at least 3 hours or more. Pack your lunch, enjoy your day, bring your bug spray. You may need it in certain areas. The weather we were in in December wasn't cold, it wasn't hot.It was perfect. It wasn't too crowded either. We had a very nice day!

Lots going on at this little zoo, its is small in area but the animals on view are a lot of fun, and several are quite rare and endangered, go early in summer before the animals start napping to see them up and about. The keepers are helpful and are happy to tell you about the animals. Concessions are simple, popcorn, pizza, hotdogs, so bring your own food if you have special dietary concerns. The zoo is wheelchair acsessable, but be aware the pathway is long to get there from the parking area. If one of your party is mobility challenged, I highly reccomend opting for a wheelchair ( vs a walker) and a helper to aid in seeing all there is to see.

I don’t want to put anything negative towards a zoo. But I think if they read the review, maybe it’ll help. On November 13, I paid for my whole family to have a wonderful visit at a small zoo. After all, most of the reviews are positive. But what we experienced was rude or disengaged employees and only a handful of animals that we could look at. I get it that it was cold out but it would’ve been really nice to have a warning that there were no animals to look at. The employees either hate their jobs or just don’t like humans. We were all treated as a complete inconvenience from virtually every employee we encountered. Even got eye-rolling. Then, kinda comical but to end it all on a bad note…my daughter has collected pressed coins since she was a little girl and she was so excited to share this experience with her little boy. The machine was kind enough to take her 2 quarters and the shiny penny….but nothing came out. The machine was broken. Not a huge deal. Didn’t ruin our lives…..but it really seems like the entire place isn’t given much thought, including the visitors. Too bad.

Small little zoo but still worth a quick visit. Could use a few more animals but they seem to do a really good job using the land they've got. Price is really good too!

Had a great time for a mother daughter day. It was a beautiful day and the zoo was clean and the staff was very friendly. I can't wait to go back and check out the animals again. The only thing I wish was that the animals had a bigger space to roam around. But hopefully the zoo will get more funding to do that.
