Had a wedding at Hotel Roanoke. I have never had a more unpleasant experience in my life. Michelle F. from the conference center has got to be one of the rudest, most vile human beings I have ever encountered, and I had to endure her for almost a year through this process. She was incredibly rude to me, and my wedding coordinator. She spoke inappropriately to my husband on multiple occasions through the planning process- to the point that we asked her not to contact us, and send all communication through our wedding planner. She kept contacting us. She refused to open block rooms in a timely and efficient manner. We had WEEKS of guests trying to book rooms, being shown none were available, because she was refusing to open more rooms on our block link. People ended up booking directly on the Hilton App though and actually paying less than the “block rate.” When we brought to her attention that the “block rate” was higher than the Hilton App, she told us that was third party pricing. I’m not sure how she thinks that’s true since it’s the literal Hilton app… The event order was wrong over and over again. It was like she didn’t even listen in meetings or read emails. The night of our wedding, she made snarky remarks to my father-in-law, who is disabled, telling him that he couldn’t go through the hotel lobby to get to club AKA. She told him he needed to walk outside and use the stairs to get there. We also saw her berating one of the employees and grabbing them, and caught her yelling at my DJ in the cocktail vestibule, WITH GUESTS AROUND! It’s absolutely disgusting that this woman is allowed to behave and treat people the way she does. I expected more from this venue.

Staying here has been a "bucket list" item of mine for about 20 years now, and now that I've experienced it, I have to say I was disappointed. The hotel is beautiful and the location is unbeatable, walking distance to everything downtown has to offer. For the most part, the staff was delightful as well. Check-in starts at 4pm, however we weren't sure of how parking would work so we showed up about a half hour early to figure that out. We parked in their "self-parking" lot, and walked up to the reception area to ask for details about parking. We were informed that there would be a $15 dollar charge added to the room for self-parking, and that our room card would get us in and out of the lot. We acknowledged that we were early but asked if our room was ready and were informed that check-in does not start until 4, so we headed to Montano's (highly recommend!). We returned around 4:45, unloaded all of our luggage and walked up to reception to check-in. Once more were informed that the room was not ready. This was very disappointing, and when my wife inquired if we had the check-in time incorrect, the receptionist curtly stated "there's nothing I can do about it." We gave them our cell-phone number so they could let us know when it was ready, repacked all of our luggage into the car, and left once more. Upon receiving the text that the room was ready, we once more headed back to the hotel, unpacked our luggage, checked in, and headed up to our room. I'm not sure what all that time was spent doing, but it was not cleaning the room. There was trash in the desk drawer, the toilet was steadily running, there were long black hairs on things throughout the room, a freestanding make-up mirror in the bathroom still had its light on, and outside of the bed being made, didn't seem to have been cleaned. We had a great night on the town, most of the staff was very pleasant, and outside of our room the hotel looked beautiful. The state of the room itself, particularly after not being able to check-in until an hour after the scheduled time, was quite disappointing. I am glad to have finally stayed here, but feel foolish for feeling like I had been missing out all these years, and definitely won't be back.

We stayed here over 5 years ago & enjoyed our stay. We heard about the Dickens of a Christmas Tree Lighting & decided to visit again. We stayed in a beautiful suite w/a wonderful view overlooking the city market. The hotel was decorated so beautifully for Christmas. The staff was very friendly & the valet did a great job getting our vehicle when ever we needed it...and they were very busy. Thanks to the entire staff for making our stay very enjoyable!

The location of this hotel is GREAT! It is very close to downtown with an enclosed bridge to get you safely over the railroad tracks. (Don't worry, I didn't hear a single train whistle for the entirety of my visit.) The hotel itself is gorgeous, and the main reception area is lovely, especially at Christmas time with all their decorations. Where they fell short was with the check in experience, and the overall cleanliness/maintenance of the room. We tried to get into the room a little early at 3:30, but were told that the room was not available yet. (Check in is officially 4:00) The receptionist offered to reach out to the cleaning staff to have the room tended to, and my husband and I went away until 4:45. Upon our return, a different receptionist told me that the room wasn't ready. I told her about the other receptionist reaching out to the cleaning staff, and I expressed surprise that the room wasn't yet ready, to which she replied 'I can't do anything about it.' No apology offered, no plan to communicate when the room was ready was offered, no alternatives offered. When I asked how long it would be, she told me she didn't know. I then asked if she would reach out to me when it was cleaned, and she said she would. This was an unfortunate series of events because at this point we had parked and brought our luggage up twice already. At 5:00 I was notified that the room was ready, and we brought our luggage up a third time. We worried that the housekeeping staff rushed through our room, and it was evident that they had. In particular, the mirrors, and coffee table had smears/drips on them and we found hairs in odd places. (Including a hair on the ceiling) One of the drawer front facades in the bathroom was falling off, revealing the bottom half of the sink. The room (a King suite) was probably magnificent at one time, but for my visit, it fell short of expectations. Definitely call in advance to make sure your room is ready before you arrive to avoid frustration.

Absolutely beautiful when we pulled up! Decorated for the winter holidays. We were greeted by Cody in valet. So kind and helpful what a positive energy to begin our short yet memorable stay. Every single staff member we encountered was kind and spoke to us it didn't seem like it's because they were supposed to. I worked in hospitality and vacation rentals it can be overwhelming at times...exhausting.The whole property was immaculate and had character and charm just...just like the staff. Food was great we ate late at the bar due to our flight time. Rooms were so nice and comfortable and clean. Our only "personal" feeling was the beds were too hard for us. This is just a personal preference. We only stayed 1 night. If you have serious back problems just may need to know. Is it worth it absolutely! I'd stay 2 nights and take a melatonin or hang out at the beautiful bar a little longer or relax by the fire place!

A delight that exceeded expectations: As we traveled from NYC to Charleston SC, we planned to stop for a dinner with family in Roanoke. Much to our delight, we stayed at The Hotel Roanoke. The overnight stay became an experience rich with historical and architectural appreciation, comfort and hospitality. From the welcome at the main entrance by the Valet Service to the Receptionist who worked to respond to our slightly early arrival (noting that we are Hilton Honor clients) - locating the room we reserved, the stay that we would talk about began. The room was well appointed with everything we would need or want. The view was as we requested. My spouse went for a swim as I relaxed after a long drive. We would eventually find our way back to the wonderfully inviting lobby - a great place to sit, relax before dinner and take in the ambiance. Dinner in The Pine Room was satisfying, giving us time to visit with family over an enjoyable and fulfilling meal. We ended the evening with drinks as we sat around tables off the lobby that encouraged conversations. It was a delightful stay that exceeded expectations.

The accommodations, staff (with some exceptions), service and food are top notch. If you are planning on having an event though, I hope you have a open checkbook. If you inquire about the cost of things and negotiate around a budget, you will be treated as lower class, nitpicked about things, and watched throughout your event like you’re hosting the gathering of the Juggalos at the Vatican. Our event went great, the staff, service and food was excellent. The hotel is beautiful. There is some serious issues on the event planning side though. If you truly want a memorable event that you can focus on the whole time instead of wondering why you are being watched and making sure you guests aren’t being accosted, then I suggest you spend your money elsewhere. It may take more effort to plan, but your event will go the way that you like it, not the way that an event manager thinks you deserve. Also, if you think that your review on the survey or Diamond Member feedback will get a response, it won’t. Not my style to blast a business publicly to this extent, but I don’t think it’s a concern of theirs to remedy.

It is one of the best hotels I ever stayed. Due to its historic background, decoration, site, and spatial link/bridge to the city center, the Hotel Roanoke has many unique features. The hotel has one main bar and two restaurants. I do like the variety of drinks and food. The hotel has also an executive lounge with a limited service. The conference center is quite spacious. The rooms are decorated in a historic+romantic way. If you go there by a car either you can park your car or ask for a vale parking. The staff of the hotel is very professionel and helpful. If you stay at the Hotel Roanoke please do not forget to watch the documentary movie of the hotel on TV, at the 1st Chanel.

This hotel was so nice! We stayed in the Governors Suite on the 7th floor, what a beautiful room! Everything was perfect as well! The balcony on the roof is breathtaking! If you ever have a chance to stay in this room, it's 100% worth it. Several well known famous people have also stayed in this Suite and I can see why. Customer service was also great at this hotel along with the bar in the lobby! If you have never stayed here, you can park in the self service parking, usually free when you rent a room, just slide your room key at the gate to leave. They also have valet parking which is also exceptional. If you park at self serve, walk towards the hotel on the left side up the hill, that will get you to the entrance near the center of the complex. Enjoy your stay!

We visited the Roanoke to see the Christmas tree exhibit. I have no experience with the rooms and staying at the hotel. It is wonderful that this event is hosted and the community is invited to visit. Each tree is sponsored and decorated by a business or civic organization and then the trees are voted on. The hotel also has beautiful outside decorations and photo opportunities. I would guess that a hotel that does such a great thing for the community would have wonderful customer service! All of the staff that we saw greeted us with a smile. Outside in the courtyard they had Christmas music playing and the lights on the large tree in the center kept time to the music. We really enjoyed the experience!

Great old hotel with charm, many amenities and spiffy. However, the circle at the entrance is pure chaos. Cars & large SUVs parked on both the outer and inner curbs of the circle makes it very difficult/dangerous to get through. The attendants are inattentive and rarely offer to help with bags whether arriving or leaving, as many as five standing around. Check in is almost always difficult and too long. Our suite was very nice, clean with a great view of the star and the city. The bathrooms are nice with everything you might need. We enjoy staying here, despite the mess at the front door, once you get past that, everything is good, especially the Regency Room for dinner.

The 4.6 reviews drew us in. Please lower your expectations. While the service was great, the room lacked considerably. The smell of sewage and musky carpet took my breath away upon entering the room. They were accommodating with providing a mini fridge for us. Literally wheeled to us on a dolly. I guess Hilton can’t afford to put one in every room, so it’s at least available upon request. It’s pretty banged up from its frequent travels too. Get an AirB&B! For what we paid for, we’re disappointed. Location is great if you want to see the city.

The rating is purely customer service. We get to the hotel at 3PM and are informed that we can’t check in until 4PM. In their defense, it is the stated check in time. No problem. Went out, grab something to eat. Come back at 420 and told that no rooms are available and that it would be at least another hour. Their excuse is because the number of 4PM late checkouts. What regular hotel has a late checkout policy that is the same time as their check in? The on shift manger tells us, “we have been telling others just go to the game and check in later…” Really!!!??? Telling your customers, whom many have been on the road for hours and want to freshen up, that their best option is to come back 6 to 7 hours later and their room will be ready. As we walk away we hear another couple have the same issue. But this time the same manager offers them alternative rooms instead of what they asked for. They did not offer us the same thing. But my wife quickly turned and said we will take the queen (king room was our original request). Absolute circus. Manager needs to learn some better customer service skills and the hotel needs to get their check out/ check in procedures fixed.

Beautiful location. Friendly staff. They offer a shuttle golf cart to and from the parking lot until 7pm. There is pedestrian crossing bridge that takes you downtown, to the Center in the Square area. Beds are decent, could be better, but ok for a couple of nights. Showers could be a little wider (double faucets or a center faucet would be amazing). Room service was quick and food was good.

Chris checked us in this weekend at Hotel Roanoke which is a beautiful historic property. Chris gave us invaluable information about the hotel and the things to do in the surrounding area. The room I originally booked was not available but Chris took care to check for an appropriate substitution. Hotel Roanoke was a comfortable walk to downtown Roanoke where we were able to have a great evening and amazing food choices as we checked in pretty late. Brunch was phenomenal, the Hostess, Crystal remembered our names from 3 hours earlier when we made our reservation, talk about impressive. ❤️ Dinner at The Pine room exceeded my expectations. We were served by My Penny Ray was was a pure delight, very attentive and kind to all of us who dined on the outside patio. Drinks were phenomenal and my steak, potatoes and asparagus were masterfully prepared to the PERFECT temperature by Chefs Chris and Chris. Have you ever eaten and your eyes roll to the back of your head? There was not one misstep in any of the food that my party consumed. We made no substitutions to the menu presented and have no regrets As I’m eating I’m planning on my head my next visit, I really feel comfortable and welcomed. Do not pass up the opportunity to visit Hotel Roanoke! All the staff displayed incredible pride in the hotel and you can just feel the positive energy exuded from all.

Suzanne made our stay a five star 🌟 experience!!! (Again) We visit frequently and do so because she and the staff here are amazing. The history of the hotel, the well appointed facilities and the location make it our Roanoke " go to" place to stay. Thanks to Susan at the bar for her hospitality and Bandy for a great drink recommendation.

We had a very quick and overall enjoyable stay at The Hotel Roanoke. While there were many positives there is some room for improvement. Pros: The staff who we interacted with were very nice. We had wonderful service and a great breakfast in the Regency Room. The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. Cons: We had requested a crib be placed in the room for our baby. When we arrived there was no crib - thankfully we had brought a pack and play. We had placed the "do not disturb" sign on our door while our baby was napping and housekeeping knocked on the door anyway. I was disappointed in the level of cleanliness of our bathroom. When we left the hotel there were a number of staff members by the front door - no one offered to help with our luggage.

The Main areas of the hotel and the hotel grounds were stunning. Staff was friendly. The wow factor definitely stopped at the room however. I expected much more from Curio collection hotel. My room had cobwebs everywhere and dust on everything. The bathroom wasn’t very clean at all either. I have stayed at the Hampton downtown and it was much better and cheaper. I don’t know if maybe they put us in a room that hadn’t been touched in a long time or what, but definitely not worth what I paid, and I won’t be staying again.

The hotel is very historic which adds to its charm. Service and hospitality is good. Seems like they struggle with crowds. The executive lounge is nonexistent. There is water and soda in the fridge and the coffee machine is broken. No food at all including no continental breakfast. It’s basically a nice refrigerator with some chairs. You can definitely find a better 4-star hotel for a better price.

(We selected a smaller room for its convenient location, but there is a large selection of rooms). This hotel is one of my favorites in the US because of its dedication to service to the clients. The staff will go out of its way to assure lodgers have everything they need. There is always food available at any time of day should your schedule have you arriving at odd times. The hotel is always clean, comforting these days considering our Covid situation. Hotel Roanoke is always my first choice in hotel selection in Roanoke.

Such a beautiful hotel. We honestly didn’t even leave while we were there. My daughter loved all the beautiful features and kept saying that she was a princess. She’s 5. The staff was super helpful and friendly. I felt well taken care of. It was a beautiful experience for our short trip. I will definitely stay there again if we’re in the area.

Recently had the pleasure of staying here for a visit for a couple nights. The customer service here is absolutely excellent and will be the main reason I’d return to the hotel. From the doorman to the front desk to the waitstaff, at each encounter we were greeted with a friendly smile and excellent service. The food was excellent (you can even get the recipe for their famous peanut soup on their webpage) and the room was clean. You can tell that the owners take care of the property and it was fun finding some of the history of the hotel scattered throughout. I can’t recommend this place enough and even though it’s a bit pricier than your average stay elsewhere, it’s worth the extra money. It’s also convenient to center in the square as it’s a short walking distance away and there are several local destinations within short driving distance. Thank you for our wonderful stay!

A very historic place. Built when the standards were very high, built on railroad money in the late 1800s. An appreciation of architecture, standards, and quality will come to mind for a place built over a century ago. Stand and look around at the details and think of hotels built today. Will they still exhibit the grandeur, quality, design, and detail 100 years from now? Ha, they can not even compare today. Not all will appreciate what I have stated, but those that do will stand and look, and they will pause and and they will see,..

I’ve stayed here a few times and it was lovely. The food is great too! Love the peanut soup! The lobby is absolutely gorgeous and the staff has always been great. Went to see the Christmas trees tonight and forgot how much I loved doing that!

12/31/2021 GOOD Super friendly staff. Excellent food especially the burgers. Good breakfast selection. BAD; wish hotels would figure out a way to soft close doors, because unfortunately guests are too stupid to figure out how to shut a door quietly. Floors in common areas are dirty Bathroom are very small in the Executive Rooms

What an amazing surprise. I was driving back home and was getting to tired to continue and discovered this gem in Roanoke, VA. This hotel delivered on so many levels, from service and food to gym/spa and how clean everything was. The building was beautiful inside and out, so much history was preserved there. During the check in and out process, I was helped by superstars. I'd definitely visit this place again, but this time I would stay longer.

The hotel itself was nice and clean . We stayed here for my birthday/anniversary and while attending our grandson high school graduation. I made a reservation for the night of my birthday/ anniversary . I spoke to Drew who made the reservation he was super friendly and made me feel at ease . I ask if the private room was available he said it was for the 25 th . I told him we were celebrating an anniversary two birthdays and two graduations it was my grandson girlfriend birthday two day before . Our experience in the regency room was outstanding would love to give credit to Brittany our waitress she made the night she was outstanding that girl needs a raise . It was a night we will cherished . My only con was we ask for housekeeping to come in the next day when we check in. Our request was not put in and they said they could not clean our room they could leave fresh towels that was it would of gave five stars if not for this .

We visited the hotel for the day for their spa services (did not stay). We got the full body massage, facial, and foot soak. John did my massage and he did a fabulous job, I couldn't be happier with how therapeutic it felt. Grace did my facial and she was so kind, personable, and gentle. Donna did my foot soak and scrub and did an excellent job and was wonderful to talk to as well. My mom and aunt got their services from John, Donna, Grace, and Starr, and all had wonderful experiences. Overall, we received wonderful services and were so happy we got masseuses and estheticians that were amazing at what they do. Thank you!

The Sunday brunch is amazing! It's very affordable and a great place to go to celebrate Valentine's, birthdays, dates, any any other nice occasion. Wow, wow, wow! You have to stay here! Roanoke is beautiful, and this hotel is the town’s jewel. With a walkway that takes you directly to a ton of restaurants, manicured gardens, a beautiful outdoor pool, and gorgeous rooms with views on the mountains, this is a guaranteed excellent stay. Will be recommending this place to everyone. We didn’t get a chance to check out the dining and bar at the hotel, but I can imagine it would be divine.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at hotel Roanoke! Hotel was beautiful! Room was clean and friendly staff. Walking distance to downtown was a plus! Hotel has pool and a beautiful bar inside. Lots of areas to lounge and chat! If you stay here, you have to try the Regency Room for dinner and for all you can eat brunch! Highly recommend both!!

Beautiful rustic building with a unique charm that coincides with the Roanoke - Appalachian mountain mystique. As a “premium” Hilton curio property, the rooms and some of the decor is a bit dated and the building is a bit challenging to navigate as it’s tied to the conference center but overall, the rooms were clean and comfortable, staff was friendly and helpful, and the amenities were adequate. I loved all of the Life Fitness equipment in the fitness center!

We spent our 50th anniversary night in this hotel. 50 years ago we spent our wedding night in the same place. The hotel is still first class just like it was years ago. The folks meeting us at our car and getting our luggage were very friendly, the front desk was very helpful and the room was so nice. The views from our room of Roanoke were spectacular ! We have nothing but praise for hotel roanoke.

Very cool and historic place. Staff was friendly. Pool and spa were clean and not busy at all. The gym had a good assortment of equipment and even had a rowing machine. The only complaint I have was the rooms were cold. I had it set at 80 degrees and it never got above 68. I would definitely stay here again though.

My family has had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Roanoke twice now. This delightful hotel boasts an impeccable level of cleanliness and an inviting ambiance that truly sets it apart. During our recent one-night stay, we couldn't help but admire the captivating decor and charming vibe. After departing, I was upset to realize that I had left my glasses behind at the hotel. However, my worries were quickly addressed when I reached out to the hotel and had the pleasure of speaking with Robert Geroe. He promptly located my glasses and arranged for them to be shipped to my home in New Jersey. To my delight, the package arrived within two days, accompanied by a thoughtful little note from Robert. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to him! Undoubtedly, we will be returning to Hotel Roanoke for future stays, and we wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful establishment to anyone seeking a remarkable and memorable experience.

Good location - you just need to cross the bridge to get to downtown. Rooms are very small and average, never mind hanging long dresses as the safe is in the middle of the closet and is in the way. The towels smell like mildew. Service is below average. Checked in via the app then they gave my room away/was told that my room was not quite ready even after 6:00 PM. James was not helpful at all, could not really answer any of my queries and even told us that we have to pay a rent fee on the fridge in the room if we insist on staying on the same floor of our original booking. The spa was great but they need to invest on renovating and upgrading the overall aesthetic of it. Elevator was under “renovation” / broken so we had to take the stairs a lot as the only elevator was slow. Breakfast options were delicious and the bar is one of their redeeming qualities.

Great first and last impression. Hotel has class and history with impeccable customer service. They will find a way to accommodate and please your needs. We arrived to breakfast 4 mins till close and they welcomed us with open arms and great customer experience. Thank you Craig in the Regency Room. The experience in the Pine Room was top notch as well. Appetizer, main course, drinks, and desserts were outstanding. Front desk very welcoming and patient. Gave us a overview of the hotel and even the history. They gave us recommendations of where to eat and where to explore in downtown Roanoke. This hotel is definitely the flagship of the town. The town would never be as great without The Hotel Roanoke. Thank you for all that you do. Great job to the entire hotel staff. Keep up the great work!! We will be back year after year!

Can’t say much for the rooms since I wasn’t staying there, but boy I wish had. This hotel is full of great history and is just lovely and beautiful. Stylish. There is an outdoor pool, conference rooms, offices, and more. Next time we’re in Roanoke I’ll definitely stay here!

Have gone to the Hotel Roanoke for numerous meals and conferences over the years, and have stayed over (post-renovation). While the convention operation is good and lunch/brunch buffets in the dining room are always great, sit-down dinners and the lodging experience have been quite disappointing. I had guests from out of town and we needed a light meal. I was first dismayed to realize the Pine Room was no longer the clubby, intimate environment I remembered. The weather was nice so we were seated on the veranda for cocktails and an assortment of light fare. The food was good (wood-fired oven helped), service was great, and the breezy curtained perch over the fountain view was delightful. Right out of a movie set ;-) I will be back, weather permitting.

This hotel has become one of my favorites! I travel for work and always enjoy my time at this hotel. The staff is so kind and great for giving suggestions of where to eat and where to explore. Matt A was who checked me in this trip and was so nice. The bartenders are always great and fun to engage in conversation with. Susan was one of the bartenders on this trip that was fun to talk to. I highly recommend this hotel for its atmosphere, the restaurants within the hotel, and the staff make it a special experience!

This is an amazing hotel. Not only is the building itself gorgeous, both inside and outside, but as a train enthusiast, I loved the fact that it is situated right next to a Norfolk Southern mainline. I stayed in room 456 which faces the tracks and has a very nice view in general. The room was clean and the property itself is in very good condition despite its age. While this is an expensive place to stay, I highly recommend at least seeing this facility if you’re in the Roanoke area.

I normally don’t comment on hotels, but I have to with this one. The hotel common areas are amazing. They make you feel like you are in another time period. The rooms are clean and spacious. I was a little disappointed that the regency room is closed on Sundays, but the pine room was excellent! My wife is in love with the pork chop. I would recommend the hotel to anyone staying in the area.

Was gifted a night stay. Room was clean and had all the basic amenities. Bed was comfortable enough and room cooled adequately, but I would recommend a fan or white noise machine if you have trouble sleeping. I utilized the room service for dinner, but after all the fees, it would have been better to just go down to the dining area (or if you are visiting Roanoke, just head downtown, there are plenty of options at all price levels). If you stay in the executive area, you will receive a voucher for a meal, but it only covers a portion. I recommend using the Hilton honors program/app to get a digital room key and to check out remotely to save time.

Amazing hotel. Pricing is very reasonable and very much worth the cost. Food and beverages were fantastic and the service was top notch. The hotel is 140 years old and is amazing just to walk around. I highly recommend it! Great stay for a romantic weekend!

Our room was not cleaned upon arrival and when we went to dinner it was made up, but with the same dirty sheets from the last guest. Evening manager said it had been handled, but he wouldn't send someone up to change the bed until I told him to give me the sheets and I would do it myself. The floor was dirty and the coffee station a mess. Shower had black mold. On the other hand, the Preceptor Omicron Gala with "The Kings" band was great. The buffet was good, and the show was entertaining. Thanks for those who made it happen. We enjoyed it with our family very much.

Wow, I have lived in Roanoke most of my life and had no idea what I was missing. The historical vibe you get here is Amazing and EVERYONE from the moment we walked in treated us with kindness and courtesy. Me and my wife spent over an hour just walking around and admiring the architecture and historical pictures. Dinner at the regency room was also 5 star. Me and my wife had one of the best nights of our lives together here and hope to go back again some day.
